@young olive aaaaw thanks !!! I hope Iโ€™ll have time to make more doodles likes this ^^

@dusk echo probably not suitable for this server, as talented as your drawing skills are

shadow nimbus

considering it's not really nsfw, and it's more just suggestive than anything, I think it should be fine for the server
I dunno though, I'm not a mod or a staff member

I reckon itโ€™s fine. It doesnโ€™t look anymore like underwear than any female armor from any video game Iโ€™ve seen hahaha

Just saying, they generally seem to keep things PG13 as this is an all ages server

But I'm no mod either, just giving a heads up in case

shadow nimbus

It's PG13 imo, like I said, It's suggestive, but not nsfw at all

I mean, I'd disagree based on their own description, but hey, subjective

Knowing and doing are different things for me. Arms are basically half ovals, of different sizes, linked together - in the first rough. There has to be tons of "how to draw anatomy" resources on the internet

wispy wren

#

@proven estuary I know of some helpful tutorials, I'll DM them to you once I get home

ancient wyvern
#

Tutorials have not been the most reliable source for me and many of my friends, though not all of them. Most of the time I find that youโ€™ll get the best results not necessarily drawing what looks real, but what comes to you first

sacred zealot
#

@proven estuary depending on where you live, attending a life drawing class with a tutor will help a lot. Also an anatomy reference book. it's something that comes with practice and a little bit of knowledge

mellow dawn
#

@proven estuary I happened to be in an art school. I didnโ€™t take life drawing courses but I had to take animation course before and drew things like bouncing ball. I have schoolmates and gf helping me with drawing concepts.

Did this painting this morning of What the Solar look like in my version of the Draconian Pantheon of gods for my campaign in DnD 5E.

The Devils are medieval Europe inspired

spaghetti o's?

neon peak
#

eugh

#

I mean, I'm jealous because I'd love to be able to try my hand at casting my own dice

#

But those just look like they'd stain my dice tray with tomato sauce ๐Ÿ˜›

shadow nimbus
#

don't you mean """""tomato sauce""""" ? :p

#

considering how low quality spaghetti o's are...

somber kestrel
#

I suspect they were frozen and then coated in epoxy while frozen

#

meaning that you can engrave numbers, have it be a solid shell but also the rings will slosh around inside which must look absolutely weird

neon peak
#

In the UK, it's pretty good quality tomato sauce

#

lots of sugar, but still real tomatos

#

@somber kestrel Yeah, I wouldn't even be surprised if those just aren't plastic rings in resin tinted orange

somber kestrel
#

they aren't

#

too porous and uneven for that

neon peak
#

They look pretty even to me, just distorted by the resin

#

And the fact that none of them are squished or cut off would suggested they're fairly solid

#

There's a lot that look like they pressed against the mold without bending

somber kestrel
#

where would you get plastic rings that are completely lopsided and of unique sizes each

neon peak
#

none of them look lopsided

#

and it looks like there's only three sizes really

#

Also, the fact there are three sizes makes me think they're plastic rings (or rubber maybe) because spaghetti rings are using one, large size

somber kestrel
#

there are clearly more than three sizes here

#

and quite a few of these are lopsided

somber kestrel
#

except o-rings aren't lopsided

neon peak
#

I don't see any lopsided ones

somber kestrel
#

look at the bottommost of 2

neon peak
#

I see plenty that appear distorted by the sides of the dice

#

Yeah, the two near the point of the d10 in the bottom right?

somber kestrel
#

yeah

neon peak
#

Look closely, that's refractive distortion due to the way the resin is molded

#

You get that in all dice that contain 'bits'

#

There's a person I follow on twitter that does loads of novelty dice, like with tiny plastic fish inside and whatnot

#

You always get refraction

somber kestrel
#

I seriously doubt that you can amount this to distortion but most of all even if it is there are clearly more than three sizes here

neon peak
#

Sure, there are more sizes than you'd get in a can of speghetti rings

#

But about as many as you'd get in a set of o-rings like I linked

somber kestrel
#

you'd have to find some novelty o-rings if a) you want them white and b) you want them as thick and small as the one above the lopsided on at the bottom of the d10

neon peak
#

I'm trying to find a sauce on these

#

I have o-rings in white like those

#

for my ear stretchers

#

They come in sizes from about 3mm internal diameter to bigger, but the thickness is always pretty consistent

#

Ah

#

we're both wrong

somber kestrel
neon peak
#

(but I'm less wrong ๐Ÿ˜› )

#

Polymer clay

somber kestrel
#

told you they were lopsided

neon peak
#

But you were right that they were uneven and lopsided

#

So we were both right in different ways

#

BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME!

somber kestrel
#

if I saw these on my toolbox I'd throw them out

neon peak
#

I honestly thought it was refraction

somber kestrel
#

man this makes me want to do it with real spaguetti-os just to prove that it is possible

#

I even have a can of epoxy next to me right now

neon peak
#

I think the freezing might work

#

although they might defrost and then cook/decompose as the resin cures

somber kestrel
#

freeze, chisel, coat, sand

neon peak
#

Maybe if you did a pre-coat of resin post freeze?

#

I really need to get some resin molding gear and try my hand at dice making

somber kestrel
#

the really tricky part would be to get these frozen enough that they don't unfreeze while the epoxy cures

#

because I'm pretty sure epoxy won't cure if it's near freezing temps

neon peak
#

Yeah, exactly

#

Does epoxy need heat to cure? Or does it just produce it?

somber kestrel
#

18c is the recommended lowest temp for it

#

which is actually pretty high

#

hm

#

also about 5 days to fully harden

keen dome
#

18c is pretty low

neon peak
#

That's 4 below 'room temp'

somber kestrel
#

could be easier to just try to figure out a way to solidify a spaghetti-o mix without having to freeze it

neon peak
#

So I'd consider that pretty cold by people standards

#

Maybe dry pasta?

#

Like, drain and wash the Os

#

they dry them out

keen dome
#

4 below room temp in the middle of winter, to boot

neon peak
#

in the oven

keen dome
#

Yeah drying could work

somber kestrel
#

room temp in this country is usually closer to 16c if you're lucky during winters

#

at my uni we frequently have classes in 12c temp rooms

shadow nimbus
#

I don't use Celsius, so I'm not sure the conversions for freezing and all that

somber kestrel
#

freezing is 0 for water

keen dome
#

< queenslander

#

0c is freezing, 100c is boiling

somber kestrel
#

50 gives you a heatstroke

#

-50 freezes you dead

neon peak
#

I mean, 'room temp' has a specified definition I think

#

Like, there's Room Temp and the temperature of the room you might be in

shadow nimbus
#

I understand, but it's not really useful for figuring each degree compared to Fahrenheit

neon peak
#

I think room temp is defined as 24C

keen dome
#

I think scientifically its somewhere in the 20Cs

shadow nimbus
#

Room temperature is 72F

keen dome
#

23 or 25 i think

somber kestrel
#

72f is 22

sacred zealot
#

Iirc from my H&S room temp should be 21 to 22C

neon peak
#

Interesting

#

sacred zealot
#

And no lower than 17C for a length of time

neon peak

Although in terms of science and industry it seems to be 20-25C

somber kestrel
#

meanwhile I keep my rooms around 26

sacred zealot
#

16c even

shadow nimbus
#

18c is comfortable for me

keen dome
#

18c is real cold

shadow nimbus
#

I prefer the cooler temperatures

neon peak
#

It's all very subjective

somber kestrel
#

18c is not real cold

neon peak
#

There's no such thing as 'real cold'

somber kestrel
#

18c is t-shirt weather

neon peak
#

it's just what you're used to

shadow nimbus
#

It's 65F, which isn't that bad

keen dome
#

As davyd says its subjective

#

Real cold as in really cold, not true cold

somber kestrel
#

temps are subjective but 18c is not "real cold" anywhere on earth

neon peak
#

No, temps are objective

somber kestrel
#

and I live in one of the hotter parts

neon peak
#

'cold' and 'hot' is subjective

#

Your cold might be my hot

#

but the temp will be the same

keen dome
#

18c is a temp most people in my state will shiver in

neon peak
#

But we're not really talking arts and crafts now ๐Ÿ˜›

lilac warren
#

Critical Role reference from Episode 50

ancient wyvern
#

Ooooooooooooohhhhhh

lilac warren
#

Spurt the Kobold

shadow nimbus
#

kobolds are dragon descendant
and I prefer when they look cuter as opposed to...
Well, whatever the art is for them in 5e

ancient wyvern
#

What about when you have to kill them though?

lilac warren
#

I mean, Kirito got it pretty spot on with a lot of features.

#

I mean, the feet are smol but that is really about it

shadow nimbus
#

I suppose, but I wouldn't think of kobolds as being as... ragged? They should be smoothly scaled, like dragons, and they shouldn't have rat faces

gentle turtle
#

I based the drawing on earlier editions of dnd but still trying to keep in mind newer concepts

#

Trying to stick more dog-like features instead of fully dragon

shadow nimbus
#

This is what I think kobolds should look like

gentle turtle
ancient wyvern
#

You kinda need something to differentiate between the reptilians of D&D aside from height & habits though

shadow nimbus
#

The snout shape is a defining feature

#

Kobolds have more square snouts, and are a bit more boney in general

ancient wyvern
#

Thatโ€™s so minor though, honestly

shadow nimbus
#

Their build is different from the other reptilian races though

copper ravine
#

Depends on the edition.

ancient wyvern
#

This could easily be confused for a thin lizardfolk or a sort of half-dragon just through your example artwork

shadow nimbus
#

well, for one, lizardfolk are much bigger

#

And they're, as the name suggests
lizards
which have different features from dragons and dragon descendants

#

They are also built differently. Lizardfolk and more... Hulking? Their shoulder placement is different.

ancient wyvern
#

Again, in individual pictures, size can be deceiving. And very often, lizardfolk look very similar to kobolds or half-Dragons (see Kestrelโ€™s art for what I mean)

copper ravine
#

Doesn't really matter. All that matters is that the player is happy with the art they have chosen to represent their character.

shadow nimbus
#

I guess the biggest detail is that lizardfolk's mouths are much bigger, and the snout slides in closer to the forehead. Far closer

wheat finch
#

yea in older editions kobolds were more doglike

#

i like them looking more like dragonlike than rat/dog that is scaled

copper ravine
#

Yup. Me too.

shadow nimbus
#

I like them looking more dragonlike, but cuter and less... I'm not sure how to put it. The other side of dragonlike, moving away from the art for them in 5e.

wheat finch
#

i kinda just noticed that the 5e kobolds still have a dog nose

gentle turtle
#

I like these opinions

opaque kraken
#

We talking kobold art?

humble turret
#

mechobald

wheat finch
#

this is just some 5e kobold stuff for reference to their dog noses and how they still do have a doglike face despite being more draconic

gentle turtle
#

Swampellow I love you

wheat finch
#

im just talking about the 5e stuff

gentle turtle
#

Still

ancient wyvern
#

Theyโ€™ve always been canonically very doglike, just less so in 5E

gentle turtle
#

I believe that there should be more obvious, defining features between reptilian races/monsters, since without clarifying which is which, it is difficult to tell the difference between a kobold, a half-dragon, a lizard folk, and a Dragonborn. So many dragons, so little time

lilac warren
#

bรถrk bรถrk goes the kobold

opaque kraken
#

It's actualy pretty easy to differentiate them with official art tbh

shadow nimbus
#

I honestly don't think that not having a giant difference between them is an issue

#

It would make sense for them to look similar.

#

that being said, I can tell the difference /shrug

wheat finch
#

Kobold is easy to tell apart from the others

#

as is Lizardfolk

#

the only one that would really be difficult is half dragon and dragonborn

#

as a dragonborn is almost just a human half dragon

opaque kraken
#

Dragonborn and half dragons look nothing alike...

#

Half Dragons always have the head of their dragon half so they are super distinct from dragonborn...

wheat finch
#

i guess i should clarify, by really difficult i mean with any amount of difficulty

#

as all the others are easy

#

as a dragonborn can have a yknow, dragon-like head

gentle turtle
keen dome
#

given it's kestral, kobold

opaque kraken
#

Thats a Lizardfolk because i've seen the art already xD

keen dome
#

no wait yeah

wheat finch
#

based on official 5e stuff, it cant be a dragonborn

#

cause officially dragonborn dont have tails

lilac warren
#

drawing dragonborn head is a pain in the rear to draw

wheat finch
#

even though everybody ive ever spoken to agrees that them being tailless is silly

#

although it does give them a distinction when looking at them compared to other reptilian races

shadow nimbus
#

I'd say kobolds can't have the head "fin" things

gentle turtle
#

This is the problem with reptilian/Draconic designs (It all looks good but there should be something defining the race)

wheat finch
#

theres also the whole thing with nonofficial art of artistic license on how people want them to look lol

gentle turtle
#

Thatโ€™s true

wheat finch
#

also to consider: half dragons arent a player race

#

but yea, most people who ive seen with dragonborn characters have them have a tail

opaque kraken
#

because it looks better

lilac warren
#

Ngl, I thought they had tails until I read up on it.

opaque kraken
#

go on...

ancient wyvern
#

I hope you guys are ok with us using context of this conversation on the channel

#

Weโ€™re small and non-professional, we really just do this for fun

wicked yoke
#

Honestly, there doesn't have to be that much physical difference between those three scaled races.

#

I know a lot of people would prefer if Dragonborn had tails.

ancient wyvern
#

But they donโ€™t though .3.

wicked yoke
#

Not officially, anyway.

ancient wyvern
#

They just donโ€™t have tails though, man. Itโ€™s in the handbook

wicked yoke
#

But they can if you want them to in the world. It's D&D. The only limit is your imagination and the consent of the table.

opaque kraken
#

Indeed

gentle turtle
#

We just wanted to see other peopleโ€™s opinions on the matter

#

Thank you

opaque kraken
#

I know its a podcast but if you use art used from this conversation, credit the artists

wicked yoke
#

But I'd say the easiest way to distinguish a lizardfolk from other races is that they often have more real-world reptilian aspects to them, such as frills, bright colors, or crocodilian jaws.

gentle turtle
#

Yes that is the

#

Goal

opaque kraken
#

Also there is one thing some people often forget about dragonborn funny enough.
The dreadlock scales

#

Beard ones for males
Hair like ones for females

copper ravine
#

That art is Argonian from Elder Scrolls.

ancient wyvern
#

Weโ€™re crediting the artists, donโ€™t you worry. Our 60 subs who are just here because they forgot that they subbed will know who made these drawings

#

Or at least, who posted them.

#

And where they were posted

#

Weโ€™re not pros

wicked yoke
#

None from me, at least.

opaque kraken
#

Same

copper ravine
#

Yes, from Kestrel. They look like Argonians from Elder scrolls with those head fins.

wicked yoke
#

Another point being that kobolds generally have very thin body structures, where dragonborn are depicted as being a lot more heavy-set.

wheat finch
#

Argonians are based on lizards rather than dragons

opaque kraken
#

Dragonborn be chunky

copper ravine
#

The art says Argonian to me more than anything else. shrugs

wheat finch
#

so that would make sense that lizardfolk and argonians look similar

wicked yoke
#

Aha, drawing a connection.

#

No hist here though ๐Ÿ˜›

opaque kraken
#

I get that reference. But if we further discuss the differences between the scaled humanoids of D&D we should take that to #dnd-discussion

wicked yoke
#

Well, given that it is a discussion on the appearance, I'd say art is an apt enough channel to discuss it in.

cold fjord
#

@shadow nimbus I made mine out of this cardboard that looks a lot like plasterboard but thinner, but any rigid kind of cardboard would do

#

You can make the hinges with duct tape, just be sure to leave a little space for it to bend and fold

#

And then I just used a piece of purple fabric (I wanted to use fake leather though) and lots of hot glue to cover it all and make it look nice

#

And a golden ribbon for the corners and hinges

Cardboard if you can't afford anything. Cardboard, tape and some printouts would work.

There was a monstrous race theme happening so I thought I'd share a character I am working on.

Itโ€™s a Yuan-ti Hell Knight (Conquest Paladin of Dendar) who wants to claim herself a place in Yuan-ti society. Her malison mother (whom she despised), fell in love with a human and was forced to leave before Querila was born. So now she has rejected her parents, and pledged her service to the Yuan-ti gods (the reason she is more beastly than a standard pureblood is because she despises her own 'humanity' so has been attempting various ancient rituals to try become more snake-like).

cold goblet

new character for a CoS campaign after my first one literally taunted strahd too many times and died for it !! art by @toonestoons on twitter !!

stone sundial
#

lol

#

Players always think they can f with Strahd

#

I love playing him against arrogant PCs lmao

cold goblet
#

oh i knew i was dying when he caught me alone and took me away on his horse but i wasn't going down without swinging

stone sundial
#

love the art!

#

One of my players named their raven familiar.. Strahd's mother's name

#

He.. wasn't amused.. to say the least

cold goblet
#

our characters found the tome and then freed ireena so he had made it clear he wasnt playing with us anymore, so when he got my chara alone i went "well its been fun" and 1v1'd him on the ride to the castle. didn't win, but DM admitted i came close

stone sundial
#

(killed the familiar, rushed to the player, watched as some barbarians rushed the PC and beat a heavy armor wearing noble woman to the ground then Strahd killed her and raised her as a zombie for the party to find )

cold goblet
#

go off strahd, show them how its done

stone sundial
#

then the party had to chain the zombie, bring it to van Richten and he hand't prepared the spell so they had to sleep in the same tent with a chained up zombie

#

and in the morning they had to kill the zombie

#

they then brought her back to life

#

That was some irl psychic damage :D
