Gun to my head, yeah, a woman.

ancient wyvern
#

@static crest it’s a classic case of lucinatism. The condition where a woman can easily be given the pronoun “he” and be recognizable as somewhat feminine man. (Named after the character, Lucina, fire emblem) this has also been labeled as samus-aranitus

violet furnace
#

Samus outside of armour is pretty clear.

ancient wyvern
#

Referring to her original appearance, where all the manual had to say was “he” and everyone was dead-set on Samus bein’ a dude. Until the ending where her identity was revealed

waxen star
#

@static crest that was my thought. mostly it was the breastplate/shape that gave it away to me

Individuals?

#

If you don't mind unpainted, Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures are fantastic quality and not too hard on the wallet if you know what you're looking for

#

Beholderthebargains, reaperminis and trollandtoad are online purveyors of individual miniatures as well

#

If you have a local game shop, they might buy and sell individual minis as well

@ancient wyvern The tall one goes by "Rose", but the campaign is called "Rose Gold"

Name: Kristhana (kris)
Age: 120
Height: 6ft
Weight: 90 pounds
Race: Elf
Class/Occupation: bard and ranger
Backstory: She is a wild child starting fights and acting crazy, the elders didn't know how to deal with her so they gave her a lute to play with and she loved it. Even though she played music, she still joined a military and become an archer there. However, a dragon came when there was peace and killed her people she fought and won. But there was no one left to take care of the land, so she left and joined in with the humans and became a bard singing songs of victory and nostalgia.
Personality: fiesty, sassy, charismatic but nice
Appearance: dark brown hair tied as a ponytail, fair skin and green eyes

#

thoughts on the backstory

glad nest
#

Part 1 of the new continent, already been working on it for 3 hours. What could possibly have caused the Shattered Lands?

solemn bay
steel yoke
#

If I had to guess, I'd say raised water levels from melting glaciers/ice caps (from the north) due to a global warming effect

#

Like, originally it was one landmass relatively close to sea level - but massive warming (maybe even a magical cataclysm) caused a huge amount of heat that melted the ice and raised the water level @glad nest

violet furnace
#

@solemn bay god, how do you just turn these around so quick? You are amazing 😩

#

And I’m not tying to kiss your ass, but seriously

steel yoke
#

OR the icy area to the north was originally an Ice Titan that was slain and fell into the ocean, displacing a huge amount of water and raising the water level that way

It’s like you art like I breathe

solemn bay
#

@violet furnace hours of training. Years of practice. There’s no secret. It’s just hard work hahaha

#

But thank you very much

glad nest
#

@steel yoke It was magical in nature but not from massive heating. More nefarious idea.

violet furnace
#

I’m glad you’re not shy about sharing.

steel yoke
#

I'm sure you have a cool reason! I just like to compare magical nonsense with real-world reasons for how island chains form

solemn bay
#

@violet furnace I was told it is caring ... 😋

violet furnace
#

Haha

glad nest
#

Well the land masses there are still hundreds of miles long so much larger than an island, but I do like to keep some sense of realism in how it all happens. But having wild magical reasons too is fun.

violet furnace
#

But just in general, I’ve always loved watching professionals work

#

They make it look so easy, but there’s a lot of fascination for me in seeing things get done or take shape

#

Like I could watch glass blowers or mechanics work all day

wicked yoke
#

Unfinished, still need to color and add labels, but what do you guys think of this segment of my campaign map?

violet furnace
#

Looks good

#

!

#

@topaz pond That looks almost like it came from some eastern orthodox church

#

Very similar style

wicked yoke
#

I just wish you could resize and move things after placing them. I'm afraid the map is too big.

#

It's going to be pretty much impossible to show any detail.

#

Actually, I just figured out how to create a map based off the current one.

#

So all is not lost 😛

glad nest
#

I end up having to do country maps or small region maps. But could add some extra flare if you wanted that.

wicked yoke
#

I'm gonna do country maps, but I feel better about making them since I can just create a new map based on the big one that zooms.

glad nest
#

Thats handy. I end up having to do mine all by freehand and eyeballing it with inkarnate, cause you cant do the based off thing.

wicked yoke
#

Yeah, Inkarnate was neat, but I switched to Wonderdraft. It's a bit more user friendly to people who aren't artists.

glad nest
#

Ahhh I see. Im not minding Inkarnate speciall Pro and being able to do HD maps.

wicked yoke
#

Yeah, I tried it too. But Wonderdraft has this really nice tool to raise/lower the landmass gradually and randomly to make more realistic landmasses, so you don't have to painstakingly imperfect the perfect circles you draw earlier.

#

It also comes with a neat river and lake tool.

glad nest
#

Hahahaha but thats part of the fun, painstaking everything you want to do. HAHAHA That sounds cool actually, nice little easy thing. Hay to each their own.

wicked yoke
#

Oh, there's plenty of stuff to take a lot of detail on.

#

I just find it's more user friendly is all.

Anyone know a good place to get condition marker/rings for miniatures??

You might be able to get a response from Matt Mercer on Twitter if you ask him, maybe. I like the ones he uses. Don’t know where he gets them.

Doesn't he just use the rings from drink packaging?

wicked yoke

I know, the table is a mess!

junior kernel
#

There are a couple of great learn to paint kits out there

halcyon goblet
#

like at art shops or like actual dnd shops?

junior kernel
#

Actual.local game stores.

#

I picked up the reaper learn to paint kit and it came with a brush, some instructions, 3 miniatures, and paint in a case

halcyon goblet
#

awesome, i want to get into dice making aswell if anyone has tips

#

oh wow thats cool

junior kernel
#

And both of the Nolzurs marvelous pigments kits come with a mini to paint.

#

That I'm not sure on, I know you need good quality casting materials or else your dice resin will be tacky

halcyon goblet
#

yeah thats a worry for me buying the minis and the paint*

#

but as a package it makes better

junior kernel
#

Yeah reaper has 3 kits, basics, layers, and blending. They're all 30 bucks and all come with paints, minis, brushes, and instructions

halcyon goblet
#

woah.

junior kernel
#

Dont get analysis paralysis watching so many how to videos that you forget to actually do! I love painting and I constantly get better. The blue and yellow on that beholder was me learning how to use an airbrush.

#

Experiment and play with it. I'll drop another model or two I've worked on recently.

halcyon goblet
#

that's a great tip! ty!

halcyon goblet
#

woahhhh

junior kernel
#

It can be really easy to spend a shit ton of money on the hobby but if you want to learn to paint I can not recommend the learning kits any more. The teach a lot of fundamental basics

waxen star
#

I assume you mean that in the sense that you "can't recommend them enough" 😛

#

otherwise it sounds like you used to recommend them but can't do so anymore

#

lol

junior kernel
#

Yeah

#

Well contextually I mean I can not recommend them any more than I already have Haha

waxen star
#

haha, yeah, I figured that out

junior kernel
#

But yes. They're cheap enough and impart fundamentals, plus the paints come in dropper bottles which are tons better than the citadel pots.

#

You can control how much you're using for precise color mixes.

halcyon goblet
#

yeahhh aahahhai was a lil confused but that makes more sense

junior kernel
#

I'm learning to airbrush so I can paint the final boss of a campaign I'm running.

#

That's a regular scale mini in front of that tiamat expy

halcyon goblet
#

thats huge, lucky party

junior kernel
#

In one of the campaigns I'm running, we're doing hoard of the dragon queen and rise of tiamat. I'm teaching a bunch of local theater kids how to play.

halcyon goblet
#

those are modules right, I've never played a module only homebrew games but im keen to know how they play

junior kernel
#

I rely pretty heavily on modules right now, but that's mainly because it cuts down on prep. I'm running 2 weekly games, a third 2 weeks on, two weeks off, a fourth once per month, and a fifth whenever my partner, her husband, his girlfriend, and I can all get together which ranges from once a week to once a month

#

I'm also playing a half orc grave cleric in another game. I customize all of the modules, but it saves me writing time.

waxen star
#

wow, that's a lot

halcyon goblet
#

thats a smarter way to manage a world, i play a teifling warlock in a homebrew game i play once every 1-2 months due to school stuff and a homebrew zombie, fully customized rules game that i play about 1-3 weeks apart but i loveeee it

glad nest
#

We are looking at 3d printing the minis from heroforge, much cheaper than ordering em and faster as well.

violet furnace
#

Oh yeah?

glad nest
#

Yeah its only 10 bucks for the template and you can get a 3d printer for as cheap as 150 bucks (though id go higher). Which works for me cause my wife and I both want one and she is gonna use it for her Breyer stuff.

violet furnace

Ah, I don't plan to get a printer tho

violet furnace

#

Oooh! Thanks for the recommendation @solemn bay

worthy copper
#

@glad nest what do you use to make those maps?

glad nest
#

Inkarnate Pro

worthy copper
#

is it worth the money?

glad nest
#

Ohh yeah definitely. I mean even the standard version is pretty well worth it. But for HD maps you can zoom deep in on its worth the money for a year sub. My only grievance with it is that I have to use paint to combine the pictures cause theres no way to do that in Inkarnate. Nor can you copy just a portion of the map. But otherwise its well worth it.

d4, d6, d 8, d10, d12, d20

frigid swan

The d10 looks kinda wonky, but other than that, no issues.

turbid fiber

I agree, d10 was the hardest

frigid swan

Maybe try horizontal?

I was gonna say just pointier

My biggest recommendation is to follow some realistic drawing tutorials, it helps with learning the anatomy. Stylization comes later

rose sundial

I know the techniques, just can’t translate from brain to hand to paper. Then again I don’t practice much lol!
Is why I’m little bit jealous of others skill sometimes.

karmic ermine

karmic ermine

violet furnace

#

ANYWAY, one of the points is, for anyone still paying attention... doesn't matter what inspires you to art, as long as you're inspired

#

As long as you're enjoying it

#

Thus ends my preaching.

karmic ermine
#

Yeah, only reason I said what I did is that when people say "you are so talented, I will never be like that", I correct them because I put in a lot of work and I don't like new artists getting discoruaged.

#

because I've been that young artist before, and as much as it sucks to hear it, there is no magic trick to getting good at it, you just practice practice practice

violet furnace
#

Yeh, for sure

I've been dscouraged like that in the past

Hello! I've read posts of people asking suggestions regarding tokens and paper minis, or cheap minis alternatives.

I've built a free Paper Tokens Generator to easily create and print Monster Tokens, minimal Monster Tents and self-standing Monster Pawns for RPGs and Tabletop games. It's an easy and cheap way to create reusable, lightweight and manageable creatures for your games!

So. I came upon a documentary about math, and the subject of nonuclidian gemitry was touched upon.
Imagine walking through this as a dungeon, but the floor never tilts.
Not sure what to do with it beyond being a location for something lovecraftian, feels like a puzzle is waiting to happen, but how to work that out I’m not sure.

flint ridge
#

Find a puzzle box, solve the puzzle, wind up inside.

#

Alternately, you took the wrong gem and wake up inside.

cedar bobcat

A puzzle box idea could be pretty intriguing... maybe have a puzzle box that will control the layout of the dungeon to a extent
I just had the TV on in the back and it happened to come on, and I’ll have to look up that temple for some inspiration now

#

Don’t worry about it ^_^
Mostly it will come down to descriptives I feel, the mechanics would have to be there to help support that.
Should we move over to #dm-discussion as to not Cloag the chat?

#

Hmmmm... On DDB I created a homebrew Map of All Places that, after attunement and enough practice with and enough luck, can show not just the local area, but any place and time. Admittedly, the idea may be a bit OP, but consider those finger paper puzzle things that grade-school girls mess with and apply that ability to "show something different" to a magical folding map like item. Just by opening and/or folding the correct way it turns into a portal into the maze & possibly a means to alter the maze as well.... a control mechanism of sorts.

The idea I worked with is heat vents that were somewhat sulfuric. Making the water a bit yellowish and having the area smell a ton.
For my campaign i'm planning on having a style of goblin creatures down here that have adapted to the environment and survived off the other creatures down here.

cedar bobcat

something that just crept into my mind, and this might be due to my love for the steampunk aestetic, but a idea to concider: would rock gnomes or other with a inventors inclination seek to use these vents in any way?

ooo That is a nice idea! I like it. There's a race of somewhat steampunk creatures down there that would probably try to get the goblins to leave. They aren't a violent type of creature so they'd either try to strike a deal or scare them off.

Once all the rooms are aligned correctly they will be able to access the next floor, I’m not sure if I’m looking forwards to making that one or not

@agile galleon Ooh, gotcha. Still looks like a great design/character!
@frank pasture Sure is! Food art is art. 😄

frank pasture

@agile rock Yay, not everyone agrees on that, surprisingly.

are digital drawings allowed here?

frank pasture
#

yeah. we haven't watched it either. to be fair. We try very hard not to watch other food shows so that we cannot honestly say we didn't know about something if we're ever accused of being unoriginal.

It's easier than trying to watch all the food content.

Okey, I read the rules for this one, witch archetype do you guys wanna see: Archfey, or Undying?

@celest reef I believe each of us paid $50 AUD and there are 8 of us.

celest reef
#

@lapis lodge Cool, thanks for the info 😃

copper ravine
#

@wicked yoke There were four. One was off screen in a runaway mine cart still.

#

They ended the session dragging the unconscious druid out of the mines as they tried to escape before a starving otyugh escaped the collapsed mine shaft the goblins had trapped it in. Fortunately for the party, the otyugh ran off after the sole remaining goblin from the first half of the dungeon instead of the party. It was a 50/50 chance since there were blood trails in both directions.

#

And even with disadvantage on all rolls and half speed, the otyugh (three levels of exhaustion from starvation) was a major threat. I'm gonna figure out later if the rest of the goblins can manage to slay it before it is sated and finds a quiet spot to rest and recover.

acoustic garnet
#

@dry radish the best way to get the effect you want is (1) print it out at like 10% darkness (so the lines are very faint) and then trace over the lines with a brush pen, then scan it back in if you need it digitally, or (2) same thing but in photoshop/GIMP, create a new layer, trace over the lines with a variable width brush, then delete the old layer.

topaz pond
#

colour the map @dry radish it will look a lot nicer

acoustic garnet
#

or you could overlay a faint parchment texture, but you'd probably need to make the map lines darker

dry radish

Rosie: the first method is way too much work. I like the second method 😃

neon peak
#

That was just a quick pass in photoshop

#

@dry radish Is it something like this you're looking for?

lucid nacelle
#

does any body has experience with creating there own fillable character sheet as pdf?

neon peak
#

what software do you have access to? Word, Photoshop, Adobe DC etc?

lucid nacelle
#

yea thats all, but no premium version from DC

neon peak
#

So you can make form fillable PDFs in word

#

Make your sheet in photoshop or whatever, then import it as an image to word

#

There are tutorials out there for that stage, it's a fairly simple but monotonous process

lucid nacelle
#

well i never tried, and in my head i have kinda the feeling that i have to aling the Word text lines to my PH picture

neon peak
#

You draw boxes, which can be easily alligned to the fields on your sheet

lucid nacelle
#

oh, that doesnt sound like a big deal

neon peak
#

Nope

#

You just have to create each and every field

#

It can get more involved if you want things like radio buttons for skills

lucid nacelle
#

i would love buttons like that

neon peak
#

That's possible, just more work

lucid nacelle
#

hmmm, i kinda have some problems with all this. mostly everyone is telling me that i need adobe acrobat pro. And it kinda makes sense.

i do have the developer mode in word, where i can do some checkboxes and stuff but as soon as i export it as pdf, you cant interacte with them

#

maybe u can tell me, wich tools do you use for this? i kinda feel a bit lost xD

neon peak
#

I haven't tried it since my pro license for acrobat expired

#

Sorry

#

You might have to source a different piece of free software 😦

lucid nacelle
#

alright, yea no worries. i just gonna trie more with word. and if i fail i probably gonna get a free trial of acrobat

neon peak
#

If you can prep everything in word first

#

you should be able to get the most out of the trial

violet furnace
#

That seems like it would be more appropriate to a different channel

neon peak
#

They were talking in a different channel

#

one that doesn't allow images

#

but you can't share background info with public character sheet links

#

Hence screenshots

violet furnace
#

ah

midnight girder
#

Yeah wasn't sure where to post it

#

this seemed the most appropriate out of the options

#

idk

quasi crown
#

iirc, I think you can share background info if you use the address bar for a link instead of the provided shared link

agile rock
#

You can upload a screenshot using an image hosting service, such as Imgur, and share the link to the appropriate channel. This channel is for sharing of arts and crafts. Thank you very much! 😄

Thanks! It's SO easy to make these letters, all you need to do is a couple of steps:

-Write the letter and print it out
-Soak it in Tea for about 5-10 minutes (gets yellower depending on how strong the tea is)
-Blow dry it
-Throw some regular candle wax on it for stains if you want
-Then sealing wax with a seal, voila! You have an old school parchment letter

modest gyro
#

Wow lol thanks for the tip tired of fresh looking letters

harsh basalt
#

Yeah if you have all the supplies handy (mainly the sealing wax) it's a 20 minutes process lol

modest gyro

no sealing wax but letters looking like that is enough

So I'm looking into buying a 3D printer to print out minis, does anyone have any experience with that and is this a good 3D printer to buy?

heady fractal
#

@strange birch - this dndbeyond discord either needs to allow posting pictures in general chat or needs a dedicated channel that allows for posting pictures
that is the only reason why i've had to use this channel, although i intended to delete it afterwards but seems i forgot.

oblique cargo
#

@harsh basalt it's a jungle with 3d printers. You can get cheaper without loosing quality, and i would generally recommend that you do and then maybe upgrade if it's your thing. I recommend you check out Fat Dragon Games channel Tomb of 3D printed horrors, on YouTube, for some hands on.

#

One thing, you probably don't need an enclosed printer for printing PLA. That will save you pretty much.
