Yah I have a golden knight holy knight from heaven
No glory ughh
Yes that one
I meant glory
true, you can use it on a Thief Rogue now
My favorite
Enspelled weapon divine smite
@tulip musk HEY DID YOUR NAME USED TO BE bufflo wizzerd
So wait has sneak attack changed
no
no
thx
Oh good I can still sneak attack twice a round
yep, reaction sneak attack still works
And with these rules soradin can still hold person crit smite too
It would be really funny to multiclass every class that has a celestial/divine suclass
that's most of them
Cleric/Paladin/Divine Patron Warlock?
Paladin, cleric, zealot barb, celestial warlock
I was about to add Zealot Barbarian
Ultimate divine powaaaaahhhh
Has anyone here played as a Bardbarian?
I know of them
No but the concept is hilarious
They have some abilities bardic inspiration works while raging
Most likely sword bard
I wonder which barbarian subclass would be best for that
Totem warrior bear perhaps?
So like GG Allen?
Why is a morning star a bludgeoning weapon, and not a piercing weapon?
you can ask that question for most weapons
Can you? I can’t think of any other examples
Because they got rid of multiple damage types for weapons in later editions
Halberd would easily be piercing and slashing
longswords doing piercing for example
Wait is halberd bludgeoning? I didn’t know that
No it's got an ax blade and a spear tip so piercing and slashing
Warpicks used to be able to come with a hammerhead so that would give you piercing and bludgeoning
and warhammers typically have the spike on one end
But to be completely honest, it's all cosmetic because there's like maybe five monsters that are affected by weapon damage types now
Honestly I would allow players to use different damage types with their weapons if they asked (and had reasonable justification)
Its usually not a big deal
I can see nerfing the damage in some instances though, like attacking with the opposite end of a glaive for bludgeoning damage is not going to be as damaging as the head
Polearm master go brr
Yah that's a good one
If you cast a spell as a bonus action you can only cast a cantrip as an action that rule is the same in 5.5 right
Generally you just use the damage types in role-playing situations
You're going to have an easier time cutting through a rope with an ax than a hammer, you're going to have a far easier time breaking down a door with a maul than a greatsword
Because it's really more of a hefty club that happens to be spikey. It's not much different from a Mace, and not Peircey enough to warrant Peircing.
No. That's been absorbed into Metamagic: Quicken Spell.
It's now, 'One Spell with a Spell Slot per turn'
Weapon damage types have always been kind of...pointless in 5E. I think only a handful in all of 2014 cared at all. Some Skeletons vulnerable to Bludgeoning, and a couple of things that resisted slashing?
Don't quote me but I remember one channel saying that they were five. Skeleton treant and I think some oozes
Some oozes split when they take slashing damage, that's something!
Monster specifically affected by one damage type or never that common, but they were interesting when you ran across them. Like hitting a clay golem and discovering all non-bludgeoning weapons and spells are useless
yeah but I'd figure that would suck for the party members who can't reliably do those types of damage
That was the point
Then you had to improvise. We beat one of those things to death with table legs
Such monsters were there to teach you the Joestar Method (IE, running away when you're outmatched.)
Flee or improvise those were your options
Effective against all but the most Perfect of Beings
I don't see the problem with casting two spells in one turn or smites
Obligatory Jojo posing
Now if you were a monk and you ran across that golem, you became the apotheosis of cool
They've changed it now so that it's limited to expending 1 spell slot per turn; though quickended spell specifcially also has additional constraints on it
so if you use a spell scroll or a magic item to cast a spell (as that doesn't eat a slot), you can then use your remaining action or bonus action to cast a second leveled spell seeing as you've not actually used a slot yet
Polymorph them into something near imobile and harmless and earn yourself a 1 hour head start XD
we did that with a kraken recently :x
That's why I use Tavern Brawler. Pummel Strike with my Longsword~
Unfortunately you can't do that on golems
They also had another golem that couldn't be hurt by magic or magic weapons. For a high level party that came as a shock
Honestly, I don't see the point unless you're fighting skeletons
You can make any Melee attack nonlethal regardless of damage
(Even Melee spell attacks)
You just gotta.. declare nonlethal lol
It's really funny, last session I was in, our monk tried to non-lethal a Death Dog; but they're immune to the Unconcious condition
Ran through KOTB and for a lark did nonlethal on the entire goblin cave. Marched them all back to the keep and made them apologize
so it just sat there staring blankly at us like "wtf?" while it started a short rest
yeah -w-
I don't really think its a super bad thing that there's not much difference between the physical damage types anyways
but just for fun! and because it makes sense
It's just for roleplaying now really
The few feats that address the types are... okay
Crushers the best out of the 3
But then you have to sacrifice various weapon properties that bludgeoning weapons just do not have
It's a trade off
Piercer is nice, good for a reroll
So does coffee lock still work
fun fact those feats can apply to spells attacks too
So you can do some fun stuff with scribe wizard, there are a surprising amount of spells that do bludgenoing damage :>
Also I like how they are introducing feats related to magical damage types too
I think that's pretty cool
how do you purpose
yep, espeically on elf where you have 4 hours to chain SRs assuming you're allowed to do so
Well it could of fixed shadow monk but by rules you can only use if you have the spellcasting ability that exact wording in your class and you don't get alot of the invocations through the feat due to how limited the wording of the feat is
I see
I could see it be improved by at least making it so you can take invocations with a level prerequisite maybe (assuming you meet it), especially in 2024 when most of the invocations have one
you don't need the spellcasting feature to use Shadow arts to cast Darkness, no
should have been an origin feat q_q
at least you can still take it as a general feat
No shadow monk can't see through magical darkness
2024 shadow monks can see through their own magical darkness, tbf
incorrect in 5.5e atleast
You can see within the spell's area when you cast it with this feature.
it explicitly has a carveout for them for the spell specifically
Fair.
But you can pick up a Pact now with Eldritch Adept
Also, magical darkness is no longer a thing
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/rules-glossary#Darkvision
The darkness spell specifically blocks darkvision now, rather than it being an inherent property of magical darkness
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/2619080-darkness
Darkvision can’t see through it, and nonmagical light can’t illuminate it.
woah 2014 darkness monk couldn't see through their own darkness! I did not realize that
That's silly
ye, a wee bit silly
So my warlock player can bypass the soul pact he made with a Lich that states that his soul will be devoured if he ever acts against the Lich by becoming a vampire, which in my setting are soulless.
"Nuh uh I did it myself"
I feel like this is like burning all your money when you're getting robbed
at least it means nobody can tell the money was stolen
He should not have made the pact
that or pull the thing where they make a bunch of pacts offering their soul and have them all fight it out
Lich is literally invading the world
new character concept: a guy who's sold his soul to several powerful entities with the intent of making them all fight over him
Too bad his great old one patron cannot just undo the soul pact lol
He knew these terms and agreed lol
Goolock is
2024 goolock my beloved
I rather like Fathomless, but GOOlock would be my second and Archfae my Third favorite
Magic darkness is still a thing, devilsight and devil statblocks still reference it
yes, but mechanically it doesn't do anything
Agreeing to have your soul devoured if you ever act against the guy who is invading the world is... Quite a choice
RIP
True I suppose
It doesnt help that the darkness spell is pretty much the only spell that actually creates darkness that can't be seen through by darkvision
that's there if you're running a 5.5e char in at 5e table
also we can see through Hunger of Hadar now which is nice c:
The only answer is now to use blinding light
I cast astigmatism
It's not some hidden knowledge that my lich is invading the world. He just blamed everything his country did wrong on rebels and my warlock believed it. Or was power hungry. One of the two. Both? Both.
i summon glaucoma
Maybe he's just regular hungry
vro just needs to eat a snickers
He drank piss once
new character idea: goes through the entire campaign cause they're promised a klondike bar
Lol, lmao. They brought back the warlock meme but for monk
Important note:they don't know what a Klondike bar is, they've just heard testimony that many would do anything for one
ye, you have a Devil's Sight warlock, Shadow Monk who cast the spell, and a Blindfighting Fighter and then go ham
Or just ride the lightning on that one, lightning bolt until visibility improves
fireball works a bit better for coverage as you could easily miss with LB
Fireball is neat, and probably mechanically superior for this application, but lightning bolt is more intimidating because of the collateral damage
Fireball doesn't require LoS to the point; just that there be a clear path for it
Turn tree into toothpicks, profit
Luckily I only get Lightning bolt of the two XD, so I guess I'm all set, lol
Lightning bolt is underrated
don't use it super often, but it does get used
to make the most of lightning bolt, acquire a scroll of Mass Suggestion. the suggestion? "start a chorus kicking line!"
Wall of force works well to encourage bolt-able positions, doubly so with a second caster
doors and hallways are lighning bolt's friends :3
or you cast Maelstrom to keep pulling them into the center and slamming Fireballs and Lightning Bolts into the now grouped up enemies c:
yall i have a question
if a muticlassing druid barbarian(giant) were to wild shape and then rage would the beast also become large
yes; though you won't be able to use your moon druid spells while raging
or any spells in general
and if you were concentrating on something, you drop concentration
it's been tried and tested before, and it's pretty fun!
theres also rune knight
I find it so perfect that Base DND rules are also called RAW
5.5e WIld Shape only replaces Species Features now so your Class/Feat/Blessing features still work (if they aren't spellcasting at least) c:
How are ya
me? im good
And how are ya
im an idiot
i really wanna make a multiclass battlemaster and moon druid, to have beast form sthat have maneuvers
I play a Druid / Fathomless Warlock multiclass and it gives all my wildshape forms permenant non-magical water breating and a swim speed c:
Thas good
what's up?
nothing
i still want a druid subclass that can become plants
plants are super unused in dnd 5e as well as 5.5e
Same
that'd be a sick way to flavor a stars druid, taking on different plant forms
lemme become an awakened shrub!
Why hello there everyone
Preservation (UA) can make plants at least (Until the feature duration runs out, which is incredibly dumb and they should 100% stay because that's the whole flavor of the subclass XD)
I kinda want a captain/tactician martial class
dude some of the spell jammer plants are so cool
Shambling Mound as a Moon Druid WIld Shape option would be kinda nice
that's also a good flavor idea, brambling branches come up and take the form of your beast
Is spelljammers good?
They didn't do the 5e adaption justice :c
The species are fun though c:
I love thy bugs
I'm partial to plasmoid
telepathy monster bugs? score!!
I love how they speak
The Hadozee are also super fun
I asked this a while ago, but I think this is a new group so: what is everyone's favorite official adventure module?
and the Autognomes c:
the only thing i would change is there telepathy needing consent
I love me some Autgnomes
Has anyone tried the pug class yet? Wondering how it is and any draw backs from just being a fisty boi
I know they're gonna sanitize it heavily, but I'd love to see Athis make a return
That's my favorite playable species!! I love plasmoids!
The Forest Oracle/J
i know its awful but decent into Avernus or chain of asmodeus
41 baboons
'DDAL05-05 A Dish Best Served Cold' was rather fun
CoS, because I'm basic
I'm planning to run that very soon, seems cool.
do you have enough players cause ive been looking to join that sort of game
you can use the cartographer artificer at level 20 to comet a war crime.
CoS doesn't really try to play up the sympathy card for strahd, he's just actually terrible. I like that for my entertainment
Same
Sorry, it's in person with my friends. I wish you the best of luck in finding a group though!
ah dang
Same
ooh, but 'DDEX1-8 Tall Trees Tell' was also rather good
i wish i was an awakened tree
I have always found Icewind Dale Rime of the frost maiden interesting
I have a question about these adventures; what are they? What do the numbers and letters at the beginning mean?
They're official Adventurers League modules
DDEX and DDAL mean offical seasonal content
1-8 means the eigth adventure of the first season
and 05-05 was the fifth adventure of the fifth season; which tied in with Storm King's Thunder
Second time I've heard that one, I'll have to check it out!
Icewind Dale is pretty good
Rime for the netherese connection is also great
Tomb of Annihilation is a good adventure if you have creative players.
Are your players pokemon fans?
Instill fear and anxiety into them with this one simple trick!
Play the Cynthia piano
Don't overdose
Whats a monster yall think would be a good race
Having all 3 of my games being Monday through Wednesday leaves too much time off.
Taking whimsy and wonderment straight to the face
Might mess around and do a little hope for tomorrow
this is a really weird question when you don't take dnd mechanics into account 😭
Flumphs
I need to get my 3rd game up and going
i remember having like 3 or 4 games up at a time. interesting times
Just searched them up their cute little eldritch abominations
Most I've had at one time was 5
these days i hardly can manage to keep 1 going
I have 6ish rn
Cue Oxventure's (YouTube channel that does D&D and other TTRPG liveplays) "D&D: But everyone is a Kobold" one shot
1 12 hour a week
6 a week like it's a full time job for u or something loll
Oxventure later did one where everyone played a Flumph
Yeah, that's definitely paid DM territory
My health has been downright horrendous but I feel good when I'm running sessions so one more I think would be fine.
Won't be dnd tho
I play in 6, not DM XD
I'm not gonna get greedy and hope for 3 good ongoing dnd campaigns as a dm
I used to run a single 12 hour session once a week, spent the morning of the game prepping food for the players
i'll take on a 2nd dming gig at a time if i know one of them will be short, like a 3 session one shot or so
Man I wish I had an irl game
i can't do 2 long term things at once
If I could have an irl game I'd probably run a 3rd dnd game if I had to
The trick is to just never shut up about D&D at your LGS. You will find people
It's my second favourite playable species behind Plasmoid
There's nothing like that around here
I have two paid games and one small West Marches that I run and manage as admin. DnD is about 15-20 hrs a week
There's one hobby shop that happens to sell DnD, MTG and Warhammer stuff, but it's only open during the day on weekdays.
Then I recommend picking up some college classes so you can recruit players for irl
Then you must find time to go there and gently inform people
Boardgame Caffes, Libraries, Community Centers, etc.
In the oneshot they ran them with the monster statblocks and a name + adjective to describe their personality. Their goal was to prevent the adventurers from waking the slumbering dragon on her hoard deep in the mountain. Shennanigans ensues...
My community is trying to shut down the libraries so
Libraries are great for new players
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun
The extra foot traffic helps them stay open
sounds like a perfect opportunity to support them then c:
They managed to close one historical one, but thankfully the history society or whatever will protect it.
Take books out to read for your campaign research
I haven't been in there in awhile
be the community you want to see in the world!
Talk to their ILL specialist to see if you can get D&D books in
I hadn't for like 20 years but went in and found Drizzt and War of the Spider Queen novels
Was very surprised.
Also a few other Forgotten Realms books (Cleric Quintet notably)
Inter-library loan specialist, they manage the books
You might get a few players out of the staff as well
I got like 3/4ths of all the official 5e books
I'm just missing Ravnica and several modules
I'll work up the courage to put a post on the FB dnd group for my region as well.
Find the nearest game store and start plugging your game
It's like 30 or 40 miles away iirc, and I share a vehicle.
You can do it
Chat I need some help with some cringey dad jokes that's based on fantasy concepts and D&D in-universe things.
Surely the internet is already full of those...
That's only 30ish minutes at 60 mph
Drag the other person with you
I wish.
Roll a d100
9
You lost your ability to cast wish again
i wish
I don't wish
Damn
hi dolly
Now for the dark question that plagues many DMs.
How many have you read front to back? /jk
I just realized something.
Inspiration lets you roll any dice. Does that mean you can use that to try and prevent yourself losing the Wish spell?
Just reroll the d100?
I've read the corebooks front to back, you can't make me do the others
I'm pretty sure I've read several more just can't remember
I don't think its necessary to read any of the others front to back tbh
I need to get another game started before I make mistakes.
best use with stars druid for weal and woe probably
Doesn't apply to d100s
I’d say Tasha’s and Xanathar’s would be decent for reading front to back
4 days without a tabletop session is too long.
tasha's is the only book i own physically
Me when I go a full week without playing:
Does not work with the Wish roll
That is only for d20 rolls in 2014 and 2024 versions
hi
Man isn't meant to go without tabletop for any longer than 3 days.
ah makes sense
It's like hydration.
I'm not a man, I'm a skeleton
I've read the front and back
they have a map in the back
I'm on 2 weeks now
I couldn't handle it.
What you need is 168 three hour sessions every week.
the healthy amount
I see that your name is YuGiOh based
love me my cardboards
I actually saw this youtube video on my feed that games like tcg or tabletop games fixes brainrot due to the social nature of it
so next time you tell someone to touch grass, tell them to touch cardboard
Or touch d20s
bruh
So
Yes
It looks interesting though
Let them be glad I'm good at math🥀
And draw
So like for a one shot session, what's a good way to start
the starter kit?
just make sure to read the entire thing before you actuall play
I have the essentials kit but I used the oneshot from the starter set dragons of stormwreck isle
it's nice, introduction combat, a little bit of dungeon, a little bit of mystery, a little bit of exploration, and then a final boss, additional contents too if you want to extend
DnD two starter kits for both 5e and 5.5e
I'd pick the newer one, it has tokens you can cut out
Lost Mines of Phandelvar, Storm wreck Isle, Welcome to the Hellfire Club, and Heroes of the Borderlands I think is the release order?
oh hellfire club is a starter? that's so interesting since I watched ST
Manshoon Simulacrum death count: 3
If only
When I'm bored like this, the dark urge gets to me.
Only simulacrums? No clones? Shame.
not yet, collecting data
We leveled up in Waterdeep 😎
You'll be hitting 6 in my game soon.
Gonna need a new feat.
Hey Tokii! You now have 40 pounds of carrying capacity! /jk
Do yall think the average dm would let me play a chronourgy wizard 😭 I swear I’m not a metamancer I just think time magic is cool
Having to absorb 5 bloody souls every session to keep ma powers and don't lose control is gettin anoyin, i had to eat ma baby crow
i just wanted to be a silly magic cow
and now ma arse is payin the price 😔
It is third party content so probably not
what could possibly warrant this 😭
Let me explain rq
Chronourgy wizard?
Ye
sure why not
I thought it was in wildemount tho
I dont think theres an acutal broken subclass, better ones sure, game breaking? eh
Which is third party
Rip
Can someone explain to me how to play? I'm trying to deploy the game on my friend's server, can anyone recommend bots?
So, im playin as a silly magic cow right?. Well, was. I'm not going to explain absolutely everything because it's a very long story, soooo. I was brutally murdered and then roasted and eaten by 10 Paladins of Tyr, then revived by the cult of Baphomet (they killed a Deva and a bunch of other creatures to bring me back). So i got transformed into a Fiend (Demon) and now i have to consume 5 souls every session to keep ma powers regulated and don't go super hyper silly mode and eat ma party
teeeechnically its also first party
and kinda that's it
its published by WoTC, its also listed as partnered content
By ten paladins
Give me a sec
what is that?
That’s what I’m confused about, does third party stuff include stuff made by WoC?
Time wizard
its just the special case for Netherdeep and Wildemount specifically
So wildemount is third party?
Well yes but actually no
Is Storm Wreck Isle good for beginners
We finally completed Waterdeep Dragon Heist!
Now we're heading into Dungeon of the Mad Mage next time (With the same characters)
Nice.
I’m curious, do any of your groups actually succeed at being stealthy
Frequently
He was forced to attack the hall of justice as a price for getting teleported from one place to another by "The Traveler"
Hiiiii
Hello!
Cause I love my dnd party but I think we’ve just given up on stealthy approaches and have defaulted into kicking doors and just fighting everyone
Officially, its Partnered Content.
Yeah,
The Waterdeep party I'm in has like 4 people proficent with stealth out of 5
Monk, Rogue, Cleric (Me) and Barbarian all have stealth proficency and I don't (and can't) wear armor
Chrono wizard dream lives then 😭
I miss ma baby crow mate
What’s your take on the chrono wizard, glav?
My vampire BBEG that's pretending to be a holy cleric has a big problem. Can't enter consecrated ground. AKA the church. There must be a way around this.
Partnered is also the label for 3rd party last I checked?
Its strong and fun, but not for every table.
Wildemount is fine here. Its considered official for #dnd-rules
Same with Netherdeep
Random question, but what is the extent of things I can do with athletics checks? If I’m fighting a giant monster, could I try pulling off its limbs?
Hmm. My BBEG acts as a travelling Cleric? Not tied to a specific Church?
That would work
They need to give ma cow a break, The Ogrillion got that cool legendary warlord hammer. The Drow has her Cursed bow/boyfriend, The cleric has now that supreme conection whit Selune, and the Autognome.. well, hes fine like he is, he's pretty happy already. But i'm gettin literally eaten alive cmon😭
😭 I’d hate to run into the BBEG as part of a random encounter
No
A preacher
that would be cool
a wandering preacher
Oh the party will run into him. Getting beat up by his own thugs as part of a fake rescue.
He wants to infiltrate the party to see if they would make for good allies
You DM decides whats possible with skill checks, and wether you roll for something at all. That sounds like an Unarmed strike for me
This works well actually. Since the BBEG is pretending to be a worshipper of a niche god.
like a wandering preacher whit the hat and the robes, whit a little black book in hand and all dat stuff. That would be pretty cool ngl
What are you gonna do if someone casts divine sense or detect evil and good on em tho?
Goddess of light and anti undeath. He is a Vampire lmao. The audacity
Sob story about how he was turned into a vampire as a joke for believing in the righteous gods
So Undead
Damn that’s good
I remember my dm foiling my attempts at interrogating an eldritch god’s vessel with zone of truth
Also the party has no one who can do such things (:
What if they just jump him😭
I feel like that happens at least half the time with my group
They will run into the ex of the vampire BBEG (played by another guy who I have play his own NPCS) And his ex knows but won't explicitly tell the party that it is the BBEG.
Plane Shift
Wheres gate seal when you need it
And if they stop them from casting it?
Also they are low level and the vampire BBEG is far stronger than them
The enemy laughs in legendary resistances
Like wwith Silence, Counterspell, or just killing them before they can, or taking away their spellcasting focus.
Is there a way to imbue weapons with the effect of spells? I’m wondering if I could use a sword that automatically silenced casters and prevents them from casting spells
The focus that BBEG is displaying openly?
Effects no. Spells yes (in 2024)
Someone played bg3 lol
Enspelled weapons exist, otherwise if you're making the item as the DM go for your life
I cannot lie, the sussur greatsword is one of my all time favorite weapons in videogames
beans
Its a good weapon
The only thing is, according to the description for enspelled weapons I found, they can't have the silence spell due to the school of magic limitations
BBEG can just savage the party if they really want a fight ( he doesn't, he wants to recruit them at first)
Good for him
You see BBEG is this rebel against the undead kingdom that is invading the world he is a part of, and the party is getting told by the lich king to kill the vampire BBEG. BBEG is still evil, because he steals souls and experiments on them for his rebellion, and he stole the party's souls at the start.
I wonder if there’s any way for them to feasibly kill him at low levels
Well he's a vampire
He has a ring of sunlight protection that I homebrewed
They could steal that while he's sleeping
Which of the Ancient Chromatic Dragons would best fit a Mafia Crime Lord?
Of course he would just wake up and cast plane shift
in terms of personality
It’s actually very amusing how easy Clerics ruin vampires after the 2024 update
Divine smite is so badass that I can’t imagine playing any other class other than paladin or maybe wizard
The extra damage against fiends and undead is also pretty great, considering that most campaigns have at least one of the two in spades
Daylight + Grapple and now the vampire has disadvantage, can’t Shapechange to escape, automatic damage, and it has its sub 200hp still.
Daylight now being sunlight is good now
Somehow knowing that they were going into an undead themed campaign my party brought no cleric or paladin
We are all new so that's probably why
Makes me want to troll them with a ring of daylight (using 2014 rules)
can someone plz answer my question?
I’m ngl man, I only know bahamut and tiamat
"Your Strength (Athletics) check covers difficult situations you encounter while climbing, jumping, or swimming... Other things include forcing a stuck door, breaking free of bonds, pushing through small tunnels, hanging onto a wagon while being dragged behind it, etc"
I guess it makes sense I wouldn’t be able to get much use out of it in combat
While you can roll athletics towards situations where you need to apply brute force, tearing off one's limbs is not one of them
The ability to breaks things is cool tho
I’ve more so been just trying to figure out how to play more strategic with 22 strength
Cause the campaign I’m in is pretty rough when we just try to go in brute force
Ahh, you're playing with 2014 rules, then?
Vaunt, but this is me assuming based on what I'm familiar with
Let's see, in 2014 you could get really good grappling rolls with Athletics Skill Expertise. But then Grappling wasn't quite as strong an effect.
Is it possible to grapple someone, fly super into the air while holding them, then drop them?
Ask ur dm
I've done crazier stuff ngl
You could make any of them work, just depends on what kind of Mafia Crime Boss you're going for. Reds will be toughs, they might clean up nice but it would be a thin veneer on sheer hubris and rage. Greens would be the conniving ones, manipulative puppet masters. Whites would be just straight up brutes, maybe the least civilized of them all. Black dragons would be the horrifyingly cruel ones. Blue Dragons would probably be the most business minded of them.
RAW, yes. You'd be flying at half speed basically.
ok, probably blue then since business minded is the tone I am going for
You can also grapple an ally and fly them over places if you somehow have fly casted on you too
(Also applies to summons that can fly in general, have summons send your team up to funny places)
I’m thinking about playing an Aasimar paladin with haste lowkey, because I feel like strength and flight pair surprisingly well together
Here are the 2014 rules on falling damage: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/adventuring#Falling
Its nice, minus the Haste part
Aasimar can also only fly for a minute per long rest so make it count kind of thing
I figured hast would be good for teaching max height fast though, because it doubles movement speed
Though after looking at the rules, fall damage seems really underwhelming
Even a max drop of 200 feet probably wouldn’t kill most enemies at the level we’re at
It's more worth it if you don't have to spend a whole turn's worth of actions and movement to set it up.
Not particularly worth it cuz of the potential self stun
Giant Barb, for example, can use a Bonus Action to toss an enemy straight up, giving them a 30ft drop worth of fall damage and landing them prone at your feet so now you have Adv to attack them with your Extra Attack.
They spend only a BA for extra damage and Prone, which is a lot less to spend than having to Grapple and fly and drop.
The other half of Aasimar's flight and Haste is the increased damage output anyways for which you won't be using if you're spending time dragging someone up and dropping
I lowkey feel like playing a barbarian would be super fun, but at the same time no armor seems rough
You can wear armor
Barbarians can wear armor.
You should wear armor actually, unarmored defense has relatively poor returns
Need like 14 dex 20 con to break even with a half plate
And if you're stacking that much con you're hitting like a wet noodle
Would you recommend playing scourge or protector Aasimar from your experience? Scourge seems to have the better dps to me, but I’m not sure if flight is something that a lot of classes get access to, especially paladins, and I wouldn’t want to pick protector if it’s just something I can do with items later
Are you following Volo's or the new Monsters of the Multiverse
You can choose which Aasimar effect you want everytime .. oh wait, you're playing a 2014 Aasimar?
Scourge in Volo's probably the weakest of the three cuz of the self recoil damage, Monsters of the Multiverse buffed Aasimar to not take recoil damage so they're all equal again
Only Protector can fly for the record
I’m debating playing a one for my next campaign, but I’m not sure if the majority of campaigns are 2014 or the newest version
How uncommon of an ability is flight, and does it have an applications for non ranged classes aside from grappling gimmicks?
Well for a) Aasimar, b) Grappling, and c) Strength builds, I feel like 2024 feels a lot better.
Pretty uncommon and it has plenty of applications, especially if you're also considering out of combat.
The people I play with have all switched over and don't really look back, there's so many improvements.
The only thing I’ve worried about is that I heard paladins got super nerfed in the new edition
But we do play with a lot of backwards compatibility, so we use non updated subclasses all the time.
THE ADVENTURES OF LEEF EPISODE SIX IS UNDERWAY
They did not! I played a paladin and it was great!
Please try not to use all caps, it messes with people's assistive tech.
Who’s leef?
I apologize
All monk players be chill af
Flight as a racial ability is rare, flight in general not so because the level 3 spell Fly allows spellcasters to give anyone flight
There’s nothing more satisfying than jumping opponents with my monk buddy
I try to be
What they did was take away the option to spam Divine Smite on every attack, which honestly was a goood thing for Paladin build diversity and viability, in my opinion. You don't get the same kind of nova damage builds you used to, but I'm not the kind to only look at Damage as a measure of how powerful a bulid is.
There's also stuff like Wild Shaping into something with flight, Polymorph (but you may as well just cast Fly on someone)
Right now im disguised as a human in a kingdom because the place we are in are at war with a Legion of Orcs
Damn 😭 guess I’m playing a wizard eladrin if I play on the new versions
I love stupid nova damage too much to let it go
Why's that?
See their above sentence
I can’t explain why, but the feel of burning three spell slots to smite three times in a row after using my bonus action to cast vow enmity or eldritch claw tatoo is the most satisfying thing ever for me
Also I’ve heard that eladrin has a lot of cool misty step effects and gimmicks so I’m interested in messing around with those
So you were a fan of the Sorcadin, perhaps?
Three times? Where were you getting a third attack?
Haste
Ahh, ok.
It’s a stupid spell, but I love it so much
Ever Quicken Hold Person and then Auto crit with max spell slot Divine Smites?
Nah, I just enjoy playing resource management with smite slots and going crazy on single target damage against super dangerous enemies
I’ve tried honestly, but somehow my hold person never works on enemies
Also, my party mainly fights giants and whatnot
Aww, no auto crits.
Anyway Paladin '24 is still very good damage, I would recommend trying it out.
I def will at some point, if my next dm won’t let me play a chrono wizard, paladins def my second choice
My Glory Paladin on his flying steed throwing divine bolts from the sky was really fun.
steeds are so goated
Eladrin seem really cool, but what I’m not getting is this, aren’t they just better elves?
i just found this from a 3rd party centaur why isnt this a real thing
Mountable. As a bonus action on your turn, you may
allow a single willing ally within 5 feet of you to hitch a
brief ride on your back. They are carried on your back
until the end of your turn, at which point they must disembark within 5 feet of you. While being carried, your
rider is not considered to be mounted and they are not
vulnerable to attacks of opportunity. Your rider must be
a bipedal creature of your size or smaller
They are Feywild Elves, why do you think they are better?
the teleport
Auto misty step with the ability to charm enemies
its not just charm they can do 4 things depending on what season they pick
On a very limited basis. It's not OP or anything.
if you pair it with something like new archfey warlock it can be very annoying
you can get up to 6 teleports per long rest with pointbuy
Shadar Kai is op tho right?
I mean they're neat, but that wouldn't just make me want to play them over other species every time.
I feel like that’s just universally agreed upon
Nah? I mean, again, neat. But not OP.
shader arent really op
Hi tasha
For like 6 rounds at most
Yeah, it's really nice, but isn't going to break anything.
Out of the 8 encounters a day that’s not much
I’d love to play one, but I feel like I’d end up just making a reskinned Drizzt do’urden but from the shadowfell
Ah, I think I get where my misconceptions coming from now
archfey warlock can tp up to 5 times
My dm runs like 2-3 encounters for each day
Yep, that'll get you situations in which the Long Rest builds dominate.
Elves (including Half Elves) are all roughly the same level in strength
Besides the Dragonmarked Elves which are its own thing
What are dragonmarks?
Dragonmarks...
I keep hearing people mention them but I don’t know what they are
Eberron specific background/feat thing
Eberron Exclusive
Magical birthmarks, pretty much
Give em a read. They're cool but also more powerful than others
Yeah Eberron stuff, their gimmick is that if you're a spellcaster, they add a bunch of spells to your spell list
Basically some people game birthmarks from dragons that give certain abilities
Nope, anyone can have a dragonmark
Its more of a racial trait
Which is why most tables ban em
its not a racial thing in 2024 rules
It's a whole thing about which lineage you come from and how their Dragonmark is themed.
It's less powerful in 24 by virtue of it taking the background slot
Last session was amusing in one of my games. 2 Zombie Ogres, 4 Wraiths, 12 Zombies, 8 Skeletons in 1 encounter.
1 use of spirit guardians and you win
I’m def leaning towards playing an elven wizard then for my next campaign, but I don’t know what type of elf 😭 anyone got any suggestions based on their own experiences of what was fun?
Next are the Zombie Beholders
Like basically any kind works lol
Of course they are their own encounter while the other one was a big encounter
Tokii getting a lot of work with that Mace of Disruption
From my experience? I've played a High Elf and a Wood Elf and both were fun. My suggestion would be to play something different and try a Sea Elf, though.
Elves are overrated /half-joking
Your patron grants you the ability to move between the boundaries of the planes. You can cast Misty Step without expending a spell slot a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
If it makes you feel any better, my other choice was a plasmoid monk 😭
I’m just trying to pick a race with abilities I can actually use, cause for my campaign rn I’m a changeling paladin
Which sounded good on paper, but in practice isn’t really that useful
Species abilities don't usually make or break a build, they're not meant to.
whats the best part about being a dm
The opportunity to collaborate with your group to build and run a whole world, it's a massive exercise in creativity. Personally speaking, of course.
im planning to run my first session with my family, im going to preparing rn
Wood is nice, or do one of the Elf subraces that have some kind of built in teleport like Eladrin
Can't go wrong with more mobility
The sheer panic and uncertainty you can get with saying “Are you sure?”
i find it funny how the undead in D&D doesn't just arise for "no reason" if you find zombies in crypts, caves, ruins, or wherever... they are actually relics of the past. Some wizard cast "animate dead" on the corpses. They are either, actively under control of a wizard... OR, the wizard died/abandoned them. Those zombies could just "stick around" for centuries or more until some adventurers come by to dispose of them
The best part about being a DM is watching your players Immerse themselves in your story.
or "shrodinger's plot" they think of what the story could be, and the DM decides thats what the plot was all along
Is it within the rules to ask where I can buy good quality dice? I have a drakewarden ranger I'd like to get some dice for, and everything I'm finding on google is either crazy expensive or not exactly what I want.
I use Amazon
It’s like 10-18 bucks so
I always buy metal ones
They actually can arise for no reason fun fact. The Shadowfell sometimes just leaks into the material plane sometimes per the DMG
you can argue that THAT is the reason... but yeah, i get your point where it sometimes doesnt need some intelligent being behind it. alot of it usually is.
I'm not a fan of metal dice tbh. I'm always worried about damaging things because of how heavy they are.
Far funnier is one of Elminster's duties as a Chosen of Mystra is to put magic items in Dungeons for Adventurers to find.
This work took up much of his time in the service of Mystra, these days, at her bidding, Elminster travelled Faerûn visiting ruins and the tombs of dead mages, planting 'old' scrolls, spellbooks, minor enchanted items, and even the occasional staff for later folk to find… and all such leavings were in truth items she'd just finished Grafting, and made to look old.
i hear "tombs of old mages" and i think zombies/undead and bunch of traps that summon elementals, feys, shadows, etc
Someone had to grease the hinges on the scythe trap, and rebalance the spring in the pressure plate
i mean, you can have spells like "glyph of warding" placed into a room that triggers when someone enters the room, which summons an elemental that gets ordered to attack the person
It is interesting that Elminster is no longer a chosen of mystra
Wonder what he does now,
you can get unchosen?
or a teleport trap with "Glyph of Warding" + "Scatter"
It's hard work for old El. When he isn't visiting Ed of the Greenwood, drinking all of his wine, Dr. Pepper and being Father Christmas.
According to Adventures of Faerun yes.
The new book called him a "Former Chosen of Mystra"
Yep. It just calls him Former Chosen of Mystra. And other than his spell he is not featured in the book at all.
I mean I suppose makes some sense that you can get unchosen
Even his tower run down and boarded up.
The two things the book does, he is unemployed and has a spell, maybe homeless.
I do wonder what he did to get unchosen
Well his Mystra did die and didn’t comeback. Or he quit.
It's probably the last vestige of Ed Greenwood's last Plot he wrote for WotC. Death Masks, and Spellstorm were his last novels and were supposed to kick off the Chosen Heirs series about passing on mantles of responsibility to the next generation of heroes.
But the series was cancelled and Ed and WotC don't talk.
is it js me or do online dnd games feel less fun than in person games?
It's a personal preference thing.
For me it's the opposite, but I'm chronically online lmao
Seems very personal preference-y
Personal preference. I like both!
its probably different if ur playing with new people id assume, im js running a game for my irl buddies
where does it say Elminster's no longer a Chosen of Mystra? I'm only seeing his name 5 times across the 2 books and 2 of those instances are "A Town claims to have a relative of his"
I personally only do online though I guess it's personal preference
one of them is even his name in a list of Chosens of Mystra
Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerûn
Chapter 2: The Dalelands
Shadowdale
Shadowdale Town
Sage of Shadowdale
A great archmage and former Chosen of Mystra, Elminster lived in a former windmill on the southern edge of the Old Skull. The humble, three-story structure, covered in vines and magically restored after being nearly destroyed by assassins serving Shar, has been locked up and abandoned for a decade now. Elminster hasn’t been seen in all that time.
That’s the line yep.
In the chapter about the Dalelands.
In Shadowdale I believe
Oh hey same time as that edit
preesh8 it boss
ddb search was being ddb search
It's okay. Both books while good are pretty inconsistent with themselves and could have used either a more skilled editor or more editing time.
Sections of Damara repeat word for word Sword Coast of Adventurers Guide from 2015.
Is it an annoyance to a dm if I play druid in public one shots?
No? Why?
I thought it’d be too many things to keep track of and much more delay in my turns
Druid doesn't automatically mean many things to keep track of. Are you talking about the Conjure Animal spell in specific?
Because if you play with the most up to date rules, that spell no longer puts a whole lot of NPCs on the field.
How did conjure animal get changed?
I wasn’t talking about conjure animal specifically but I would suppose thats the most annoying one
You now conjure an area of spectral animals that has an effect.
Most likely for the very reason you're talking about.
I’m new to this, so essentially I can control another spirit for utility, no?
I summon 16 animals for a measly cost of one level 5 spell slot!
Yes, that is the flavor, but the mechanics are that is is a damaging area that you can move around.
Absolute comedy (not) for the dm
💀 oh well I am playing one shots and its level 3 so it should be fine
You won't even have access to Conjure Animals at that level.
Summon Beast you will have access to, and it's a neat spell. You summon one creature that scales up with your casting stat and the spell slot you use to summon it.
No, wild companion let's you summon a Familiar, which is also great, but it cannot attack.
This has been an incredibly emotional session
I see
I want to try druid cus I enjoy intelligence/wisdom checks and it just sounds fun to cast so many spells and use many things with a great amount of possibilities
It is! Druids are great fun!
Especially since you can swap your entire spell list every day.
True
But spell lists don’t really change for one shots right? Like usually you just pick your spell list for the session at the start
We lost our wyrmling guys😭
It was devastating losing him, we were trailing an assassin during a combat encounter, he used monster handling and took our wyrmling
Yep
A long rest in a one shot would definitely be an outlier ime
Right…
Depends on whether you get Long Rests or not. One shot just means one session, it doesn't mean only one day in game time.
Right
Well, tbf you cant exactly tame a wild beast with a roll of "animal handling" anyways
its usally just used to calm them down, stop them from attacking you or, even temporarily becoming your ally. But thats different from "taming" them
to truly tame a wild beast, you'd probably need to spend MONTHS to YEARS bonding with it
Usually I only let creatures get tamed if they were raised by the party with some occasional exceptions
yeah, party usually doesnt have the time to go to the same forest repeatedly every day for YEARS to meet and befriend/care for the creature that is nesting there
the campaign would have ended by that point, or the plot would have moved on
What is a moon druid’s powerspikes?
He wasnt wild, he was sentient, so an actual character we had with us for a few days before he was kidnapped
I don't remember all the beast statblocks, but Moon Druid gets access to a new CR of beast every 3 levels. 3, 6, 9 etc. Access to 3rd level spells at 5th level is a spike for every full caster.
I see. Thanks. Cus I heard druids have level spikes and get better for like level 2 then 5 then 18 and stuff
Ohhh .. that would be 2014 Druid then? Because in 2014 they get their subclass at 2, but in 2024 everyone gets their subclass at 3.
Ahhh I see ok
Well druids still get wild shape at level 2
At that point it's not really a combat enhancer.
More of a Utility thing.
I see
Also you asked about Moon Druid and they wouldn't be a Moon Druid.
Right. They’d just be druid according to 2024 yes?
Yes
What do most public/private parties use now? 2014 or 2024
I don't know, but I do know more and more people are using 2024.
I see. I purchased a 2024 and plan to pick it up this week
It was improvements in 90%+ of cases.
Is the monster manual important? If I want to keep playing druid? Or can I just use beyond dnd version
If you're playing online chances are someone in your group might be sharing.
If you've got the PHB, then most relevant monster statblocks are included in the PHB
Offline
Animals for example are in the PHB
Oh really? So most wild shape forms are included?
I think one of the things I found meh in 2024 is the wildshape changes actually, sure I understand it was strong but I personally liked wildshape being an actual option in combat
yeah nost basic animals are there
Ah okay got it
Are you talking for Moon Druids or others? Because for Moon Druids it's absolutely combat worthy and for other druids, Wild Shape wasn't really combat worthy in 2014 either.
Just to clarify does wild thorns apply cc unless enemies move off of the thorns?
you'll want the Monster Manual for like... Dinosaurs and fantastical animals and shit like that, but ur PHB should serve u for a good while
The others cause moon druid wildshape is still viable
Ah okay. I’m still beginner for now I can keep my hands off of the MM
Wild Shape is not really combat worthy for non Moon Druids in 2014 either.
But you know what it does for non-Moon Druids? Acts as an easy source of THP that you can keep when shifting out.
As well as great Utility, as usual.
That's true you can get temp HP out of it
And Wild Shape not being combat capable for non-Moon Druids is the same as 2014.
Oh oh! There's one thing you can do as a 2024 Druid that you couldn't in 2014. Bonus Action shift to a deer for Opportunity Attack immunity.
Because everyone can bonus action Wild Shape now, not just Moon Druids.
I mean personally I think the extra hp pool was somewhat nice at least for early levels
But I suppose it makes more sense the way it is now
But now you can benefit from extra hp and cast. Just Wild Shape at the beginning of the day and you have THP.
It's not a lot of THP, but still.
One of my favorite changes
only a few more days till my players dive into Undermountain 🙂
My Monday game is Bastion time, Wednesday is gonna fight a cube while dodging dust devils.
Part of me still wishes that a Dex based polearm existed
Just be a monk/j
but I get your point
realllll
Valdas has one, it's called a scythe
yall how would you beat sul ketish?
plane shift away
plane shifting people often forget to use plane shift you need to go to that plane first
drag it out of the antimagic field have a good str player and have them get her out of it
she could just fly out of grapple range or become too big to grapple
you just need a properly tuned tuning fork wym
Artifcer creations like dynamite/bombs
shes immune to non magical damage?
no?
Damage Immunities Poison; Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks
attacks is the operative word
pretty sure a bomb would be a sort of attack
No, that would be a save
thats.. still non magical damage
Not from an attack though
so how many DM's have i played with that have used Sul Ketish wrong?
actually i literally just looked it up youre wrong
im looking at the stat block rn
explosives work on it
what other version would i be talking about 3e 😭
SHUSH IM DUMB
also couldnt she just become a Scion of Stronmaus and just crush whoever shes fighting
I dont like that thought I dont want my character crushed he dies enough to himself
honestly i feel like any scion could give a level 20 party a run for there money
they are the truest form of giant
guys are barbarian pissed off a phoenix and we have no clue how to get rid of it
Is call lightning a good spell?
I'd say so.
Using it on a hoard of goblins is probably really satisfying
It's pretty solid due to its recasting and lightning ain't as commonly resisted as Cold and Fire I think.
Yup! Also it's a 60 ft radius compared to the usual 20
Hello! I am new to DnD. I wanted to play back when I was in the navy but the group had a DM who would kill people off immediately just because. I’m hoping to play my first full game
Welcome!
That always sucks. Hope you find a good one.
That’s why I came here 😊
It's one of the few spells that gets better in a specific circumstance (outdoors in a storm), so it gets bonus points for me purely for that
Hopefully I can find a group to play online with.
You can check the #find-a-game to have a look around here, but this discord isn't the only place to find games.
Yeah mechanics like that are really cool imo too. Also taking control of a whole storm sounds badass
sometimes you look at a statblock and just wonder "How is a player suppose to kill that"
Hold monster->portent->4 divine smites
High level pcs have tons of powerful features
LR
For example rangers can now never lose concentration on hunters mark
new ranger is so meh
Beast master is great
New Ranger is just Tashas Ranger but better
Yep, pretty great
Just not flashy.
it being hyper focused on hunters mark is its main bane
And favored foe in Tashas was just HM but not a spell.
Nobody's bothered that paladin is focused on smites
thats cause theres plenty of smites
You get plenty of HM too
theres only 1 hunters mark
Should've let it lose concentration at like level 8-9 and then let it lose the ba transfer cost at 12-13. Also let it scale, increasing damage at like 8 and 15 and get a different capstone
You get PB bonus free castings per long rest
So you can drop it in favor of other conc spells if the situation calls for it.
WOTC was :_: They massacred my Divine Smite!
Good
idk genie paladin is still pretty goated
Most of the times hm isn't the most optimal play. And it not scaling is a bummer (ignore the level 20 capstone)
I hated the smite changes before the books released but after I enjoy Paladins a lot more
They just balanced it i think
my player made a wizard ranger multiclass I got some weird players
Yeah it was simply a matter of being too good of an option
Sounds interesting for sure
Yes, and it was probably wise, but I want my Turbo Chainsaw Smite Murder Paladins baaaaack
it was just big burst damge dps
The spell smite changes were a good change as well
paladin was relaly strong
Removing conc on almost all of them and making them better
Now other smites are also an option at least
I mean, nothing stopped you from using Divine smite and Another smite in 2014?
Like Branding being turned from basically useless 9/10 to Shining which is always useful 10/10
The smite spells sucking did
3 of my 7 players are multiclassing
It wasn't a spell in 2014
not to mention smite can be used on thrown wepaons
Yes, but other smites were not really worth it for the most part
Nah I'm talking stuff like Searing Smite
Thats why you multiclass into Warlock, the pact gives you more power but every time you are tempted to do any Smite spells at all, you lose a limb
Only Banishing, Staggering and Blinding were really worth a damn
banaishing
I mean the only part of Smite Spell sucking was that they took Concentration, that was it.
Their effects were otherwise, very fine.
Nah searing was especially bad
Now searing competes in dpr with divine, especially when upcast
Cause you could just put out the fire
it took a creatures whole action no?
wdym not always
So outside of hyper specific scenarios it was good?
It was passable. At level 1.
After that not worth using
i mean this is just my take but it says the fire cant be put out by water so
How often is water just sitting around for someone to handly douse themselves?
Fire damage, con save
The save to get rid of searing smites fire was pretty easy, and the damage didn't scale
In 2014 it could be doused by water explicitly
" or if some other effect douses the flames (such as the target being submerged in water), the spell ends."
Now the damage scales and iirc it's guaranteed to activate at least twice
i love how new paladin just gets a horse now
And some had concentration for literally no reason
Thunderous Smite, you need concentration to stare at them being prone as they get up
does a centar paladin get a human instead?
You talking about FInd Steed? It always had that?
yeah but now its built into the class
They just gave it for free cause why not.
Mounted combat is really good and underutilized imo
Provided you're using a decent mount
i mean how often are you fighting with enough room to use a mount
if your'e using a bad one then "Woops something farted in your general direction and it died."
The mobility and extra reach from the mount makes being a melee feel better.
Also now paladins divine favour doesn't require concentration, so it's a much better hunters mark with a slightly smaller damage dice
Mounts provide Reach?
Cavalier Fighters in shambles when their gimmick by lore is situational
Effectively.
Your melee reach matches the mounts
my friend was Cavalier fighter and i was a moon druid
you can prob guess how well we got along
Moon druids are cool
hello
Hi
Wall of meat literally
Nice thing about mounted combat is its pretty easy to keep replacing horses depending on the campaign
i took sentinal and he took mounted combat as well
Does getting enemies wet affect ice/lightning spells?
Not unless specifically stated
A bear on a horse
so he could force a creature to attack him and could get a free attack as a reaction
I have someone who has a mounted fighter.
So far I've killed one of his horses
Mounted combat also gets one of the best weapons in the game
lance
A 1 handed d12 reach weapon
Generally no, 5E's not that crunchy/indepth.
Using a Lance while riding a horse is fun.
or a flail
My Monday fighter is gonna finally get a new mount.
Bte create water can create drinkable water right?
Gonna tell him to drip that horse out in Plate armor
if your wearing adamantine and have a higher ac then the attack roll does it still hit?
Hell yeah
Horsey needs 18 ac too sometimes
Yes. it doesn't state that it's magically undrinkable water that punches its way out of your throat, so, yes.
angry water
I just mean fresh water instead of sea water
Reminds me a level 1 in my Wednesday game got magic plate armor in session 1 at level 1
why would create water make sea water?
It doesn't specifiy salt water, so it's whatever you feel like
Great!
ALl it specifies is that it's Clean Water
Cause of extraordinarily good rolls and some leverage
I love the find steed spell. Lowkey my fav spell oat
He's now 1900gp in debt tho
Sounds like he's going to get his knees broken
Yep, by the Unclothed Collectors
Naked kneecappers?
I also like how find steed dosent have to be a horse it can be like any mount
They at least wear underwear. And a helmet.
Absolutely bizarre
Like the merchant that gave them the plate
It's a reoccurring gag from Elder Scrolls I stole for my new campaign lol
Theoretically, could selling water in dnd be proffitable?
well yeah its called find steed not find horse
In a few of the games there's a Nord that for some reason lost his clothes except a helmet and underwear
Unless you're in a desert, and there's nobody already providing services, no :V
Dang
Selling water in my Wednesday game would be a good side hustle for a pc
But they might get nabbed in the night.
There's no reasonable, sane, "Get Rich Quick Schemes" In D&D
And those that exist require tech, exploits or just being at a really high level (by then money matters a lot less)
i was about to say until you said sane
It is funny how my Wednesday game is my first game to have CWs and the first session was just sheer absurdity and goofiness after they left the city
So now there's multiple in character jokes and understandings
The fastest way to make money is to play the game. Go Loot Dungeons, beat up monsters for their shinies.
Because they keep running into weirdos in the desert they realize the Barbarians odd behavior is normal
man i wanna play a thri kreen but the dm is on the fence about it
Holy shit it can be a mastiff
I CAN HAVE A DOG
You could always have a dog :V
i mean yeah but it would be large enough to mount
Reminds me.
I might be running Spelljammer at some point.
Yeah but if it dies i can bring it back
Even tho I hate how lackluster it is
Revival Spells :V
I dont have any:(
hmm yes spend 300 gold pieces to bring back an animal
It'd be funny if the plate dude died
Hope you're ready to invent everything on your own, for it's a Setting that's not a setting!
Cause then the merchant could raise his corpse to work off the debt.
i hate the revivfy spell
I can mount it?
It's just a glorified Monster Splatbook with a five minute adevnture stappled in it.
by mounting rules the creature has to be 1 size larger then you to mount it
mastiffs are small or medium
Oh so like a small race can
bingo
Thought so, still cool tho
Good spell all around tbh
The steed resembles a Large, rideable animal of your choice, such as a horse, a camel, a dire wolf, or an elk.
Lol a camel. Give em armor and you got a war camel
i do like how much they upgraded the find steed spell as well
like how you can make it frighten someone (fiend)
heal someone (celestial)
or teleport (fey)
Wow thats cool
Dnd session was so intense i got an irl nosebleed
Fey warhorse could work for flavor for an oath of ancients paladin. Yk green knights and all
would be awesome its slam attack would also do psy damage
Maybe it'll be the work I'm looking for.
Cause I need to do something so I don't give into the darkest urge a dm can give into. /j
Thats awesome. Who wouldve thought even mounts can have flavor
Oh damn you alr buddy?
Yes, it was just super intense, we fought a wendigo for an irl 45 minutes
Damn, welcome to dnd.
And my partner has wendigo fatuge or whatever yoy call it
I like how my dnd party recommended me to play smth other then paladin and i just chose fighter lol
We are currently on a side mission to save a kidnapped party member
So I’m not exactly sure where I should ask this, but I play an artificier in a game where I am allowed to make items given time and money additionally, if we’re particularly lucky, we can buy magic items. So the question is are there any items that protect against madness? There is an opponent whom I would like to keep alive that has had modified memory cast upon them many times and I have a slight suspicion that several months of overlapping, modify memory along with some other things might cause madness is there an item that can prevent madness?
A periapt of health equivalent
Well if the madness was going to happen in the future I would have suggested a ring of mind shielding maybe but if it's already in progress I'm unsure if a magic item can help
Madness, as per the 2014 dmg, can be cured by lesser restoration. Remove curse or dispel evil and good might also work. If the character suffers from an indefinite madness, greater restoration is required. So look for items that can do that.
Cloak of protection, anything that can boost saving throws?
It's not an area well covered and it really depends on how the DM is running mental instability.
I want to be proactive I would ideally like to put the item on them before a cast greater restoration
stone of good luck
Basically, I am under the impression that this character has been under so many mind altering effects that something bad might happen so I want an extra layer of insurance
kill them and cast true resurrection
I don't think anything straight up prevents it, but calm emotions might stop the effects of it for the duration.
Yeah, I’m thinking calm emotions into greater restoration. That means I have to find a tattoo of greater restoration.
also has your dm hinted as to using variant ruleslike that or sth?
bc if they WANT them to go mad, they WILL go mad
My DM uses homebrew, but he is open to my creative overthinking
Just got done playing a game where my Dm didn’t let me use sneak attack when I had an ally flanking while invisible, is this common, when I looked it up it didn’t seem so. Kinda ruins my whole thing cus the only other melee only come melee when he is invisible.
I understand why he would say the sneak attack while the person next to them is invisible doesn’t work on the other hand. Do we really need to punish martials?
flanking should still be possible, so it seems a bit "unfair", yes
No, that's a bad call. Visibility is not a requirement for that clause.
It's a bit of a funky interaction, but yeah, since advantage and disadvantage cancel out, you should still have been able to sneak attack (given flanking)
I assume your DM is using the optional flanking gives advantage rule
Actually, if you have disadvantage at all, I believe that means sneak attack isn’t available
Who specifically was invisible in this scenario? You (the rogue), your target, or your flanking ally?
