True strike, booming blade, green-flame blade, magic weapon, holy weapon, steel wind strike, divine smite...
just to name a few
There are lots of smite spells however
Magic Weapon, Elemental Weapon, Flame Arrows, Holy Weapon... idk after that
I love being a rouge carrying a glaive
(Secret fun fact: you can get Wrathful Smite without being a paladin: with the shadow touched feat)
A smite you say
its not really secret tbh
Hello dungeoners and dragoners
shhh don't tell anyone đ€«
Its a first level enchantment just like other first level enchantments
no its necromancy
Obvious fun fact: you can get wrathful Smite without being a paladin by being a hexblade warlock
Damn thats good.
ah, well, still, its probably the worst of the smites to get lmao
Frighten and Necrotic Damage? ehhh...
for a class made to combat undead and fiends
Booming Blade is excellent for focusing on a single opponent, especially a highly mobile one. Green Flame Blade is excellent for clearing out hordes of weaker opponents.
Know when to use them.
went from Evocation to Necromancy
Not all undead are immune to Necrotic and Frighten of course,
I just think making it necrotic was a choice
Sometimes paladins needs to smite other things too!
Ma DM just told us that we goin to have another session today. Yipieee
Nice!
Yes, obviously, I just think its a strange choice to make it necrotic regardless,
I would've gone with Psychic or something of the sort personally
Doesn't gift of the protectors seem kind of underwhelming?
like compared to lifedrinker - an invocation of the same level
Gift of the protectors gives you a once per long rest relentless endurance (drop 1 hitpoint instead of 0 if not killed outright) while lifedrinker grants you extra damage (psychic, raidant or necrotic) on the first attack and an optional hit-dice heal every round. Doesnt seem that they are on par seeing as both are level 9 invocations.
My favorite paladin spell personally is Destructive Wave đ§
I still think both are completely valid choices.
huh apparently lots of fiends aren't immune to being frightened!
Forget about paladin spells what is ur favorite warlock spell?
Both are good, keeping someone from going down one per long rest can be insanely useful
Hunger of Hadar
Probably armor of Agathys or Danse Macabre
Can u a cantrip and a spell in the same turn or no?
Hellish rebuke
But they dont seem to be really on the same level of utility when someone can just heal someone when they get downed (usually)
Yes, if ones an action and the other is a bonus action
you always can in 2024
Isn't there something that says only one spell per turn?
People can also be killed pretty quickly when they're downed, some dms are nice enough not to attack downed players but all it takes is a 3 hits or a Crit and a hit
Which, since you're prone when you're downed, Melee creatures have advantage on attack roll against you
there is a trend i discovered in D&D, or atleast in the servers i run
making marine characters (aka characters that live under the sea) is much harder than making terrestrial or flying characters
In 2014 it's only the bonus action can be a levelled spell and in 2024 its only one spell slot per turn (which cantrips don't consume)
There are also the rare Instakill effects against downed players as well
(Intellect Devourer for one)
Is it specifically only the level spelled could be a BA. I though one centrip and one leveled spell as long as one was a BA and one was an A
why do you think this is the case?
Its a free deathward, so I can get why its once per long rest
with the revive it only takes one more. Like if you are getting hounded already, it won't help much since you are 1 hp. It seems to be very niche in it's use compared to lifedrinker which even at it's most passive grants extra changable damage every round.
deathward prevents instant death - gift of the protectors doesnt
You're not always going to have someone that can revive you in your parties
yes then taking life drinker and not going down in the first place seems better no?
It can keep you dying for just a bit longer, like Relentless Endurance
I think i like 2014 more than 2024
it's like, cooler
You can take both now in 2024 anyway if you want to go Tome and Blade, thats what I did lmao
So I don't get the complaint
OR take like lessons of the first ones and just take a heal
which is available at a lower level
Thats true, but sometimes people just want to play their characters how they want
because it's a wasted cool invocation
I don't think its wasted, but everyone is entilted to their own opinions
Mind you, you could just write all your party members names down and just wait for something bad to happen, sure its only one person, but it protects the ENTIRE party once per long rest
Like i would like to take it - But it literally will see no play with my character - or if it will ever activate it would be in a situation where the extra health from lifedrinker would've been better
True i guess
I need a dm and players
mmm... life.... delicious.....
If you have a Cleric or Paladin, gift of protectors them so if they could possibly get downed, they don't or they have a bit more time to be helped before they get killed
I am a player
Okay

that's why i have spare the dying from the tome
Wait, pbp session or vc session?
I, personally, would rather choose any other cantrip over spare the dying anyway
Its also a case of
"IF you can heal someone, why do you take it?"
Which was kinda your argument against Gift of the Protectors
it's basically the same thinking of so the healer or a teammate with a health potion can make it in time
Gift of the Protectors is REACTIONARY, you have to wait for your turn for Spare the dying
difference is i have cantrips enough
to spare one on spare the dying as opposed invocations to use on gift of the protectors
not dying is good in my opinion
is it vegan to eat a dryad?
Any one want to play
Sure, I guess, but I'd rather have something that
- doesn't bite into my action economy
- doesn't have to wait for my turn to be used
- has potential to stop someone from dying right away
You can't always plan to spare the dying someone, especially when there could be MULTIPLE enemies between them and your turn
No, dryads are fey not plants
It's vegan to eat a treant :3
aren't they spirits of trees though? or am I thinking of something else
I may be mixing them up with treants yeah
Thank you
I think eating another sentient living creature would go against veganism
No they are the spirits of trees, they're just not plants đ€·ââïž
Some elves would disagree with you
Eating a creature with thoughts and like feelings is exactly what vegans DO NOT want to do?
No
It feels pain
Hmm i guess, it's very team centric innit
As a more so self-use invocation it isn't good enough
Elves aren't explicitly Herbivorous or Vegan though
They're Omnivorous
Can you play as a kobold?
Yes, they're in Monsters of the Multiverse
Stereotypically theyâre vegetarian/vegan
I wonder what its like being a plant
In some media they refuse to eat animals but do eat people (just don't tell them humans are animals)
Thats why its a sterotype, because its incorrect, especially in D&D.
You can
Reminds me of that scene in the Hobbit with the Dwarves going to the Elves place I forgot the name
Elves AREN'T explicitly Herbivores in D&D.
They WILL/Can eat meat.
Remember, every elf is different
That only applies to wood elves. High elves don't care. Dark elves can't be vegan because there's no plants in the underdark.
They could eat mushrooms if they wanted to!
You can't live only eating mushrooms
but its magical fantasy mushrooms
Also anyone can go vegan if they have druids who can cast goodberry
That's also incorrect:
"While wood elves felt it better to have a minimal impact on their surroundings, the race had no particular aversion to meat-eating and were passionate hunters."
Elves in my world dont eat animal meat, and only consume monster meat
Thank you for correcting me
I'm telling you folks, no Elf is specifically Herbivorous.
Besides, end of the day its a culture thing
So yeah in conclusion elves can and will eat meat if they want to
Like how elves are considered adults at 100 is purely a culture thing
It is indeed a cultural thing, but thinking an entire species follows one culture is a bit odd lol
I mean sometimes you die and get revived by some eldrich demon lord giving you cool powers and shi
Yeah! They physically look like human adults at the same age, 18, right?
yeah but you can't guarantee that
They age normally?
Dying can be good sometimes if you are lucky and YEARN for a buff
That should be reversed
The Wood Elves should eat meat eaters since eating meat is natural
The High Elves shouldnât because they have higher moral standards (Sometimes)
Wood Elves ARE Omnivores.
I just pointed that out lol
"While wood elves felt it better to have a minimal impact on their surroundings, the race had no particular aversion to meat-eating and were passionate hunters."
Wait why would elves be herbivores if they are at least most of them rangers
shoutout to my reborn brothas and sistas
High elves don't have higher moral standards. They think they do. But in reality they're just racist. Not as racist as the dark elves though.
I think the only time I can see an entire race being carnivorous or vegetarian is if their biology literally makes them one way or the other
Elves age physically the exact same as humans, but in dnd elven cultures are not considered adults until 100
Theyâre usually Wizards, Druids, or Rangers, yeah
Truth.
But, yes, Majority of Elves are omnivorous in Nature in the forgotten realms, as a good majority of humanoid species are as well
Even Lotr elves weren't herbivores
Did they change the way Elves age somewhere? In AD&D 1e they aged far slower than humans. Being infants at 50 years old.
Pray to ya fav demon lord, then fight to Death against some Paladins and Thou might reborn brotha
So when my drow character watched her parents die, she wasn't 5 in elven years. She was ACTUALLY 5. Like literally 5 years old. Woa...
Being a baby for 50 years seems torture
Yea
confirmed by ma cow
Ye
I see there are... a lot of misconceptions about Elves in the realms
But thats okay because they are a bit confusing, aren't they?
I was meaning to ask you this last time but how is your character a cow?
Ive never heard of this being a thing for the last solid 2 decades
In 5e, I think they age at the same rate as humans until age 20
Only one nanny per use (get it cus they die of old age assuming the nanny is human)
Hey
Yeah in AD&D 1e DMG it gives the specific age time lines for all PC species: Elves, Humans, Dwarves etc.
Sooooooo. My boy, He's the son of a cow-headed Minotaur and a centaur. And since cow genetics are strong, he turned out to be a whole Highland cow. (He also has a sister that's a whole human)
I was thinking. Is multiclassing a rouge with warlock good?
in one campaign I was there was a tavern run by "vegan" mind flayers
not as in they eat plants but that they eat the emotions of the people who go to their tavern instead of brains
"looking for a part time nanny, work lasting to at least 90 years
And don't even get me started on the weird ones that live outside of the material plane
Thats probably bc it directly just is tolkien elves
Great employment opportunities.
I will say, Elvish culture in D&D is actually more subversive of expectations than you'd really think
But at least since 4e, elves physically mature the same as humans
Sigh... why is it always the highland cows? Just because they're "fluffy" and "cute" doesn't mean that other cows deserve any less attention.
But since my boy got slayed and then eaten by Paladins of Tyr and a High Priest, Only the bones remained. AND then they were found by cultists of Baphomet (one of his patrons). Then they performed a ritual of Baphomet (they killed a deva and a lot of stuff) revived him, but there were only bones. So my boy was revived as a Fiend
Well 5.5 doesn't specify it either way, so I guess it's open to DM interpretation.
5.5 is an extension of 5e, all rules and lore still apply
Becuse ma boy was the silly one in the party, Comic relief. Someone has to carry the burden of being silly and cute.
Not necessarily
Unless directly countered by 5.5e
" I joined a while back as young as I was full of hope and opportunities"- puts out the cigarette in a wooden chair " now I am 76 and still a part timer!."
Because I was thinking to multiclass my rouge with a monk or a warlock
Elves for example have a pretty respectful relationship with Dwarves even if they are pretty culturally distinct
They've never really had a reason within lore to hate eachother
Which... is pretty based imo
How high is your Wis versus your Cha?
Hellloo
Hi
Helloooooo
I think that dnds move toward less species based issues is pretty cool
Can you be a fairy in dnd?
The drow/tiefling speciesm was never really fun
Yes
My Wis is 9. But my Cha is 15. So Warlock?
Yeah
I wanna be tinks lol
Definitely Warlock then
You can be whatever your DM allows
Alright then
Idk if you cannot be anything in dnd
Imma be a toaster haha
You canât be a Mind Flayer without homebrew
I was against Tieflings being player classes, and then they became one of the most popular classes somehow
A giant ground sloth?
If one of ya party is an artificer that might be possible
Being a tieflings awesome tbf
Why would anyone be against playing a part-devil?
Part-devils are SICK
I think it's written "Theetfling"
Honestly, Dwarves in the realms are pretty cool
They like Halflings, respect human architecture because its similar to their own, view Goliaths as kindred spirits and the Relationship between them and Elves is more akin to squabbling siblings than any violent virtiol hatred
I mean tiefling prejudice at least does sort of make sense in-world. The hells are objectively real and you can go there
Dwarves are ALWAYS cool
By the way. I always wondered. The patrons of warlocks. When you do a pact with them. You have to do give something in exchange. Like your soul. But what if they don't ask for your soul. What else would they want? Depending on the patron?
In any world
Dwarves are just the lowkey chill fellas
With how common they can be, i disagree
Orcs are cooler than Dwarves
Stronger, better at surviving, faster
a patron might want a task to be done. or a continuous amount of something over time as payment.
Are Goliaths like half giants or their own species or both
I was sleeping/thinking about on stealth and my interpretation is you MUST beat DC15 to hide, it doesn't matter WHO you are hiding from, DC15 is the minimum....
If a player is about to be attacked, but they happen to roll unusually high even with disadvantage and beat the initiaitve of the attackers. They will be notified that they hear a "bow being drawn" or "whipserings of a spell being cast"... but they dont know where it is coming from.
THEN they take their turn not knowing wtf is attacking them
Nuh uh
Technically you donât have to give anything
But basically whatever the contract says
Ok. I see
Half gigants
Tieflings probably typically have more prejudice against them when born amongst humans
otherwise, I don't think many species are that judgemental
*Theetflings
Like humans should be the ones people are scared of
They just appeared outta no where
I like dwarves, I just wish they would dig deeper still⊠donât listen to all that talk of hubris!
Apparently, most species are unsure of them, but remain coordial
So you can play Giants and Goliaths so similar to Orcs and half orcs or elves and half elves?
I don't think completely sidestepping bigotry or culture clashes is really the way to go either is my thing. I mean to each their own obviously. But stories need conflict
Nothing bad could possibly come from delving deeper still
I think?
Eldritch horrors?
hi guys!!
I deal enough with that type of conflict irl, let me punch god instead of tim from walmart
Hiiiii
I feel like species monocultures is lazy writing.
Humans are clearly just really tall halflings smh
I was thinking between genie (djinni) or fathomless
Fathomless is pretty cool ngl
Minus the hairy feet
Nahhh donât be silly
Thereâs treasure down there! Keep digging! Dig deeper! Donât stop!!
Thats tolkein again
Planet of the hats tropes
Depends
In my game, an NPCâs employee contract for the restaurant he works at includes a Warlock pact
The owner is an Archfey
how would i find campaigns?
Guys I hear cats crying like humans in my widow
Agreed, and I'm glad D&D has tried to branch out from it a bit
In a world where many many species of people exist, there would obviously be some cultures that include multiple species.
It is rather hard tho ngl
I'm not 100% sure what this means.
General trope of âyou found this civilization, and they ALL do THIS thingâ
Is his name "ma boy"?
It's a writing tropes most commonly seen in star wars where everyone in a planet is the same
And even in the real world where we only acknowledge one species of people we can see that one species can have multiples cultures.
I think it's cool how Pathfinder has the Khorevar (i think that's what they're called iirc?) Who are like a culture of half-elves, like sort of like Métis or Mestize ppl irl
Don't be silly, His name Is Thistlemane Trickhorn (Aka Ma boy cuz he's ma char)
Same culture same language same everything
No, thatâs Eberron
okay ty!!
You mean the Khoravar from Eberron?
Also he's technically a bull, not a cow
Ye but ma party keeps calling him cow so
I guess it got stuck in my head.
Yeagh
Well,I know that Djinni is useful for mobility and high damage dealer (because I was thinking for an speed build for my character) or Fathomless because my character is an ex pirate and has the background as sailor (fits the sea vibes)
And yes, the Khoravar are cool, they are their own people not half anything. But I also would like to see not only multiple cultures in a species, but multispecies cultures as well.
Also he was "The Cow" most of the game cuz. bulls can't talk (Until we went to Thulantar and bad things happened. And I was able to speak)
Like Odi from Backyard Farm or whatever the title
You know?
I don't think I have a favorite species
Also also: how did you even play him. Like did you use the stablock of a regular bull?
Nah, Minotaur statblock
Firbolgs would probably be up there, I'm playing my first soon
Backyard farm đđđ
Otis from Back at the Barnyard? lol
But he's a bull. No hands and stuff. I can only do the things a bull can do.
But he's just a regular bull isn't he?
What class is the Bull sorcerer?
Iirc there are half-elves who don't identify with the term in world, like it's a specific culture of "half elves" not a general term
A trans icon
A Magic Warlock bull (Untill he died and got revived into somethin more)
A monk, clearly /silly
FR, you're not even lyin'
Like half elves can even be 1/16 elf right? Not just 1/2
I have a society where Kuo-Toa, Drow, Duergar, Svirfhoweveryouspellit, and a Human subrace with Darkvision and Sunlight Sensitivity live together in harmony
Did they turn you into a patty
Yes, but still the Khoravar are their own people.
Technically in dnd, no
Itâs half elf or full human or full elf
cmon i just said it to you đ
Svirfneblin (Deep Gnomes) are dope, I love them
With human being a dominant trait apparently
This is why I'm glad half elf is no longer a specific species mechanically, going forward.
So if a half elf has a baby with a human that baby is a human?
I don't actually know? Iirc at least in the Forgotten realms a half elf and an elf just make an elf, a half elf and a human just make a human
Well there are no half anything anymore in 5.5e
What
Patty steak or meatloaf?
Wait so no more half Orcs?
Check ur dms
There⊠is?
Goliaths count?
they did completely do away with the full Lings, though.
Again you can still use 5e content in 5.5e
You guys got me confused now
I mean this is absolutely going to be rolled back tbh
I hope not.
They worship Eilistraee, Callarduran, and a homebrew Kuo-Toa god named GrLek-CkraL-GraAK
I agree with Mix-Species being a flavored thing over a mechanical thing now
I always thought that was a tad bit weird...
There is not
đŻ
Thx I guess
But you can still use 5e content
anyway that's kinda it
Getting rid of racial traits just sounds like making the game less fantastical. Getting rid of the term race I understand tho
depends on the DM. when you start intermixing 5e and 5.5e content you sometimes end up with weird or less than functional results
So which one sounds better? Djinni or Fathomless? Both are good for me. But don't know which one to choose. Someone to help with my speed build
backwards compatible, as long as you use the rules for Origin speicies and background
That was something (everytime I think I learnt something... it changes )
Thars like saying the there isnt any Aarokokra just bc it hasnt been updated yet
Are Planetars or those big winged guys a thing
Jarnathan NOO
Are you talking about the stat bonuses? Because pure number bonuses is like the most boring way to try and add flavor.
Hmm should i play a rogue swashbuckler. I like being a frontliner but perhaps i want smth new
Djini is stronger for land campaigns, Fathomless is stronger for sea campaigns
I hope when Aarakocra are updated they're finally considered Elementals character species wise as PCs
Yeah. I recommend. Because my rogue is a swashbuckler
I mean there are other racial traits iirc but yeah. I mean, it mattering like class is kind of a staple of the genre
Iâm glad theyâre becoming less shy about non-humanoid adventurers
For those wondering WHY Aarakocra are elementals, its because they originate from the Elemental Plane of Air
If we are still talking about this in my world one of the cities is a massive trade hub where many different species can be found living together, which is unusual especially to that degree.
I played a Swashbuckler in a West Marches campaign
His name was Viâhyathracn âViâ Blightfang and he was really cool
Not every elemental needs to be MADE of their element, which is fun
They just need an innate connection
It's not that important of one, considering how the game still plays just fine, and it has always made me uncomfortable personally, so I think it's better off gone and I'm glad.
Also the fact that most healing spells work on undead and constructs now probably means weâre going to get to play those creature types :D
Well alr they seem pretty good. Ill give em a shot
Ophid!
Are you ready for us to all kick Oroboros' ass today?
I never wondered. I never heard of the Aarakora other than seeing it as the first monster in the MM
Just make sure to have a high Cha
Half the fun of being a Swashbuckler is persuasion and deception
Gotcha
Question, GoF
How long have you been playing DnD?
part of me wishes they did something cool with the Species and their relationship with Ability Score adjustments. I still want it to affect you somehow statwise, just not all of ur stat increases. I prolly would've preferred if both Species and Background gave Ability Score adjustments
I mean it's also sort of performative on account of Wizards tbh. And I say that as monarch of woke. "Getting rid of racial traits but were still greedy as the hells"
In that case. I will go with Djinni because 85% of the time I am on the land. And 15% on the water with my skiff (but this session my skiff broke and sank)
Looking forward to it, but also I woke up after only 3 hours of sleep.
I hope they don't eliminate races entirely and just make both class and races the same thing
Thatâs too much stats
That seems unlikely
Performative or not, it was good and makes me and a lot of other players I've talked to feel more comfortable.
NOOO, Get better sleep, damn you!
I'm supposed to be sleeping now, it's 1:30am for me.
If we're getting rid of racial traits can humans have dark vision. As a treat
Well the word "races" is no longer a thing, it's replaced with Species. I would gander that Crawford wanted to get rid monsters as PC's altogether, but his team warned him of a rebellion from players if he did.
No, humans don't deserve to see in the dark
I have never played human ngl, it's just boring
Also, nice pfp
You can't imagine some way they might balance it?
Humans are interesting in the Realms, but I can agree it'd be boring to play humans when I could play mythical creatures
Its already a +2, +1 system. Just make both origin components take one of those
Playing monsters is freaking awesome
I want to play MORE monsters
I want to play Kuo-Toa
Iâm playing a homebrewed Kuo-Toa race in my library campaign
Yeah like Cow
Tyyy
5e has playable Kuo-Toa.
Would you play human when you can be a mystical creature like a cow?
Since when?!
I never wanted to play anything other than a human. Aasimar was my next thought because they originally could only be human bred, but 5.5 changed this to any species
Elemental Evil: Locatha Rising has playable Kuo-Toa.
I mean if the goal is not having innately evil "races" or encoding racial biases, wouldn't getting rid of "monsters" as pcs literally do the opposite lol
Oh, our Waterdeep party has adopted some Kuo-Toa
We spared them and my Cleric revived one that the party killed out of self-defense and now they see us as gods lmao..
They live at our Tavern with us
Locathah Rising has playable Locathah. These are not Kuo-Toa though.
Fish sons
doh, its been a while
I like it
I wouldn't say adopted, but we felt pity for them because they calimed Xanathar was an abusive boss, so we allowed them to work in our tavern with us
All species count as monsters, including humans. NPCs that are antagonists are monsters.
I personally don't have a problem with people wanting to play monsters. It's just not my taste, because I feel fantasy is all about heroes. And those heroes in TV shows and movies in the 80's were mostly Humans, elves and dwarves, but mostly humans
They're named after fish from the Philipeans since our Dm is FIlipino
My Kuo-Toa did the opposite
He adopted three Kobolds (Dobold, Jobold, and Hobold) who worship him as a god
Alr now that's a peak choice of names
I would honestly love unique "Dwarf" monster statblocks and unique "Aasimar" monster statblocks. I like the Firbolg, Goliath, and Drow statblocks we have, I'd love them for all species.
We've got three Kuo-Toa now, but the only name I can think of right away is Tilapia
Any playable species is already assumed to include members of any morality, so that's already done?
its funny, so much of this is in Tales of the Valiant
dude I'm not playing that lmfao
Whatâs that?
Ah, I found the names of our Kuo-Toa friends:
Bangus, Tilapia, Galungong
you can just grab monster stat blocks and pull them in
That would be homebrew, and not the rules
If I can be a Gnoll, I will be a Gnoll. Don't need to ask me twice.
Tales of the Valiant is an offshoot of 5e, by Kobold Press. it has different updates than 5.5e. neither is better. they are all just different flavours of the same thing.
Mmm, bangus is delicious.
I, within my heart, cannot believe Kuo-Toa are truly evil,
They're too damn cute
Most of my characters are various types of monsters. Even my "elf" is a flavored Kitsune (she's a druid so I can pull it off mechanically).
That's the human pack bonding instinct.
Protect small friends and show them that theres light beyond the darkness
I am happy dnd decided to make PC versions of monsters like kobolds, orcs, goblins, and even more recently, gnolls.
I donât think Kuo-Tao are evil either! Does their stat block say they are cus that wouldnât make sense
Bangus, Tilapia and Galungong (our dear Kuo-Toa) see us as gods because of how we preformed in combat against their group, but we're trying to lead them away from that perspective because we want them to treat us as equals and friends and not as gods
In my world centaurs have some interesting lore. In ancient times (2000 years or so before the current setting) centaurs lived like wild horses, in nomadic herds each led by a single stallion. They did not build permanent houses and did not have a writing system. After 1000 years or so, they slowly started adapting to the human lifestyle since they often worked with them. Now all centaurs live in cities. Some consider this an improvement since their lives are now easier, others feel like the human lifestyle has been forced on them and that they were forced to abandon their culture.
(Granted, Gnoll PCs are "third party" but accepted by DnDBeyond)
Poor gnolls, theyâre just so hungry :(
But also because its dangerous for Kuo-Toa to actually BELIEVE someone is a god
i am now inspired to swap Gnoll and Giff just to have hungry hungry hippos.
There are plenty of Deities that have came into existence purely due to Kuo-Toa belief
Maybe you could have like, Centaur Dalish, who still live in herds on the plains or whatever. Maybe they could be inspired by real life Mongolians or another horse-centered culture
Very cool
Helloooo
Lowkey I think the centaurs of this world may be more developed than the humans
Hi
Hey rq which races have a high movement.
why did i think that gnolls looked like halflings but smaller
Tabaxi, Centaur, old Aarakocra
you were thinking of gnomes?
Thanks homie
yessss
Gnomes are like halflings but their ears are pointy like elves
but why is human just in diffrent sizes gnomes, halfings , dwarves, human,
Dwarves are Medium like humans
dwarves ok i understand
Gnomes are a HUGE step away from Human
a dwarf of mine refused to believe that gnomes were their own thing and were instead just the halfling version of elves.
gnomes and halfings?
How I see the difference between them is this:
Halflings: "Hobbits", small humans
Gnomes: Mystical small people
Dwarves: Bulky, strong, short people, usually with a beard
Gnomes are honestly closer to fey in my opinion
that sounds racist ngl
it was racist.
I mean aren't they canonically from the Feywild in most settings. So they are just halfling elves essentially
Hm... No I don't think it fits the setting. Why? Because the world I created is based on medieval Europe and only that. No it's not because I think that other cultures are not as interesting. It's because that's the only thing I was taught, my area of expertise, and I honestly don't know enough about the history of other regions to do them justice. There are other regions in this world that are 1 to 1 parallels of other places, but thus setting focuses on the one that is a 1 to 1 parallel of Europe.
More or less, they are technically humanoid but far more similar to elves and fey then humans and halflings
gnomes look like they are closer to fey than elves
I think it would confuse people more if they made gnomes count as a humanoid and an elf.
But it wouldn't be a terrible idea having them be a Fey.
Gnomes specifically AREN'T elves though
are trolls a thing too
Aint they like, half elves?
what about ogres
Just because something is SIMILAR to something doesn't mean they are the same, no
no? half elves are half elves
again like that dwarf said
Halflings are hobbits. Complete with hairyfeet
none of us are dwarves
i am but a cow
Copyright-free hobbits
i might be one well too bad i removed my beard
proof you are no dwarf
dwarfs NEVER shave their beards
Like wizards, the longer the beard, the cooler you are
i never removed it completely i looked 10 years older
Including if you are a woman. Actually bonus points if you are a woman.
Yeah
Wait what
Yeah haters got jealous of D&D's popularity and threatened lawsuits, including Chaosium for listing Cthulhu etc. in their Deities and Demigods edition.
I need to see someone play a female dwarf with a huge beard.
that's not hating. That's protecting copyrights that were used strictly without permission. Balor's were just a rip off Balrog before
Dwarven ladys have beards?
Yes they do
isnt
copyright free
I know, itâs pretty clear how dnd wanted to utilise hobbits as a classic fantasy creature, but had to change the name to make it legally different
In most media, yeah. I'm pretty sure dnd dwarves do too but I don't have an example for that.
since tolkien. Gimmli explains this fact. And D&D just ripped of LotR to start
remember that time when Legolas saw that pic of Gimli and his mother
both had beards
And most other games/shows/movies/otherwise also have that fact.
YES yo remember i was trying to type in this laptop
cough cough rings of power
rings of power is unfortunately legally just lotr media
Fantasy movies didn't take off under Tolkien, they took off due to the popularity of D&D
irrelevant. D&D was made after the hobbit books. They quite literally were taking content from Tolkien
I might one day in the future
Does't matter who was first, just who is best
That's not how copyright works
It's how popularity works
which has no relevance on the legal use of their content
But is relevant to popularty of the game and in movies...
if there was no egg there would be no chicken
It's evolved
you're going off on a meaningless tangent is all
you cant say that in court though
Do Halfling ladys also have beards or smth?
Perhaps I've been imagining my friends' characters wrong.
no just hariy feet
You sure about that? lmfao
Tolkeins like, the originator of most dnd and general fantady ideas
They probably didn't get the memo that D&D has officially called it 5.5.
This was from a long time ago lol. I just found out today that they decided to call it 5.5e
i see it on the dnd beyond website
can you use 2 hand crossbows to attack twice without having the crossbow expert feat ?
As people my age ish say,
Tolkein did to fantasy what hunger games/divergent did to YA books
I'm only here to gloat a bit on someone who was being pedantic a while ago
i think reloading would be the problem
Never saw a Hunger Games movie
maze runner
Neither did i, i read the books
do i need to reload them both seperately
considering Tolkien was literally the medeival fantasy progenitor. that's a fairly ignorant thing they are saying
i never did watch anything
Yes, because hand crossbows have the light trait. Just donât think too hard about you reload them
Clearly you did not read YA books in the 2010s
did you forget Tolkien predates World War 2?
Ok⊠and how is that relevant to my point?
I never claimed seniority, only similarity
are you trying to call hunger games the progenitor of YA novels? that's also pretyty ignorant
except reloading both separately its fairly easy to shoot them both at the same time
they arent the same category at all
that is why crossbows are a thing
I don't know anything about the history of fantasy and how tolkien contributed to it I just read LoTR and think "oh its like that in D&D! Cool!"
Im claiming they both defined a genre of copycats
And did a large impact in the way people viewed specific genres
i was more of a teen wolf guy đ
As much as I love D&D
I'm actually not much of a fantasy guy lol
from all the recent YA novels we can clearly see the influence of Hunger Games
My point exactly
I don't like high fantasy I like low fantasy
Both are major influences upon their genres
I'm too lazy to check, but there is a Feat that appears to do something close to what you are asking.
Defining specific tropes that youll see across them
Harry Potter and kids fantasy books, or urban fantasy hidden worls trope
AGOT and political low gritty fantasy
these arent the first to do it but you can clearly see their influence
Mhm, i would simply say that hunger games and tolkein specifically had a surge of low effort copycats
Harry potter might come into that category tho
of course
it was funny as you could see the Trio in the books of the same genre
My school gave quizzes to get prizes based off of how many books you read
Got to a point where i could guess the answers
Bc they all were doing the exact same thing in the genre lmao
I liked the mazerunner series..
To an extent lol
It had cool concepts for sure
It fell off, admittedly
I got real bored eventually tho
The first book was REALLY good
Divergent was something I liked when I was younger too, but then I kinda realized it's Hunger Game-esque slop
owls , owls everywhere also high fantasy bird owl purists
As i grew older the more i learned to dislike it lmao
it gets dark adn it got a Zack Snyder movie slow montion and all
very sypnosis type movie
also The Expanse very good tv show (also ttrpg never played) fairly new scifi series
Im trying to do a sci fi high fantasy setting for my next campaign
back to dnd huh idk what to say did you guys watch the movie
But man. Tough to bring together i feel
Havent had the chance đ
i will recomend you the Foundation tv show in apple tv
My current plan is to have all the sci fi stuff be hoarded by the main capital
With an evil king literally rewriting history to send the rest of the world back to medieval fantasy
one more reason to watch that tv show
Using a beholder-nightmare fueled machine called the âNightmare Engineâ
Plot twist in the campaign being that this isnt an ancient civilization the players are finding out about
It was here 200 years ago
very nice
Ill look into it
I wanna kill whoever made daylight savings to confuse the ever living shit out of me when i run games
so bit of a random question
are there any spells that effectively turn someone into a living meteor?
Turn a player? Ashardalon's Stride if you can fly
True polymorphing someone into a murder comet is probably as close as you'll get
Combine ashardalon's stride and wind walk :3
yeah i was confused too
it started today
Perfect
It already happened
I got confused because it was very light out for 11:00 AM, which is when I run WD:DH
My players are calling me crazy for not understanding the eldritch copndition that is dealing with Daylight savings, im losing my WIS saves
I swear its just Ouroboros messing with time, him and Chronos dont want me to have fun, thats what i get for sending them to Carceri
Is there any way to get a custom background to where I can get a feat like Magic Initiate (Cleric) but also be able to get a +2 Int and +1 Dex?
Ask your DM
Custom Backgrounds are something you talk to your DM about, per 2024 DMG
Ah didnât know if there way a way in base DnD
there is, its just not player facing anymore
Wel, Folks
We're fighting a God in 20 minutes in one of the games I'm in
Wish me luck
Don't die!
Or do if it means you'll be ressurected as a demon cow
If my Wizard survives
He's retiring and raising his daughter
nah, even worse if he dies
What god
Oroboros, a homebrew Deity
oh a giant murderous infinity snake
sounds like a wholesome ending -w-
The BBEG? Good luck! Roll some 20s!
Giant murderous infinity dragon, actually
Not the BBEG, We have more fights ahead of us
But I'm gonna retire my Wizard if he survives
funny how Ouroboros isnt the BBEG
hi gang
He's got much more to lose currently than most of the party it seems, so he has a more valid reason to retire
today i dealt a bit of necrotic and acid damage to echo
next week?
the same
Hi
i belive in him
surely nothing terrible will happen
Maybe the BBEG is Jörmungandr
No, the BBEG isn't that, we know for certain
what if its just a little snake :3
There's no man behind the slaughter, sadly
Boros
Bors
Boris the Oroboros
Boris Oro
hiss :>
Yamata no Orochi
I have a Yuan-Ti NPC named Vassinal Essnâkn thatâs one of my favorites, heâs a snake headed Malison who took the Pointy Hat homebrew Circle of The City Druid subclass
Would I be executed if I use a modified version of faerun if I canât exactly think of a custom map and or canât draw it out
why would you
No thatâs fine
Idk if players had a standard to where they donât play faerun because Iâm trying to start up a campaign as a forever player
As a dm who previously was a forever player
i play several homebrew campaigns, and two in FR. (last one is in Dragonlance)
Would it fall under home brew if it was a modified version of faerun
I took the most damage and I have the second least HP
FR + Homebrew
Iâm running my first horror based campaign and I was wondering thereâs really tips for that style of game play
Check out Ravenloft
Player buy-in is key. For a more extensive breakdown, check Pointy Hat's video out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7JObWTDGXc
What you do is you say Faerun is our starting point, but this story is our own and some details of the world may vary.
Make understand the players that fighting is most likely dangerous and they need to be smart to overcome the monsters
and take decisions fast and smartly
can even give some of them guns and make them attack the monsters showing that not even bullets work towards them
DnD is mostly a power-fantasy, and horror translates best when the characters feel relatable. The threat should be, in general, so inherently strong and brutal that they instantly know they will die in a fight - or make it a rule. Fight the monster, die.
Horror as a setting is smth different, and mostly relies on over-describing and the general monstrous-ness of opponents imho
Thanks guys
Iâm trying to do it because Iâm really big horror fan and I want to run something like silent hill
Remember when they resisted literally every type of magic? Of course they had to fix that cause that was broken.
Oh my god I could've used a Yuan Ti for my Snake Patron Warlock
Are those evil snake people?
Yes
I once made a glam metal themed yuan ti bard and never used him only because I don't think I can do him justice in roleplay.
You don't have to be evil. Most yuan ti's are evil, but not all. No race can force you to be good or evil.
Your character can be whatever you want personality wise
Okay, then maybe 5e isn't the solution here :,D There are much more fitting games, but there are some things I used for a Silent Hill game a bit prior - lean into the regret, guilt and fears of characters. Core and center of the game.
Oh okay Iâll look into other games
Pro tip, dont show the monster to the party or if you do it, do it to 1 alone
The need to connect a monster with the psychological self is really efficient is done by the player itself. Let them describe what kind of horror they are meeting and how its connected with their regret, fear or guilt.
set paranoia in that person and the rest of the party, let their minds do the work of imagine the monster
today was the first session of the reset of my campaign, the gang's hiding indoors from a locust swarm outside
How does one reset a campaign
turn it off and on again
I would guess just start with new characters in the same world as the old campaign
time skips, reincarnate the whole party, do like one piece and send each to a location for their own arcs and improvments, etc. etc.
TPK them and reset with them doing a Reverse divine comedy and getting out of hell
I can officially confirm, the most annoying feeling is having something stuck on a tooth
Sambody Archipelago Campaign
I think you can be just like retire everyone and start another group who might or not come across the old characters
Like cameos
I think CR did that
I have heard that something absolutely bonkers awful has happened that has been the last straw for many. What is it?
indeed, a new group, the offspring of the old group, etc. etc.
Idk you tell us
Fortunately options are many and creativity is big too
something about not actually owning your own DnD stuff and subscriptions
thats far too vague
thats.... thats been a thing in DDB for a while, thats nothing new
Yea offsprings idea caught up to me but also if you want to restrict to the same race as your previously characters
Honestly, is it just me that hates when someone says that if you own the physical book you can import it into DnD beyond? It'd be nice if you could do that but the homebrew system in DnD beyond is very unintuitive and overly complicated, you're much better off using a PDF instead
a looooong offspring tree can be possible too
like, the principal party is generation 1, the next party could be generation 6 and then you canbe more open to let them be other races or more
and reincarnate exist too so, there is many options
The books could have a QR code or some special code that would let you get them in DnD beyond, idk if they did that or smt
Oh true but at that point just make another character is more fun than just having a character with a drop of their blood
Not the case for most
It looks like they're not printing paper books anymore
That's why paper and PDFs are better to use, imo
But what would be fun imo now that I think about it , so imagine the entire party is descendants of the last party , some 5-6 generations ago except this one guy who is actually the kid of the past character đ
can make it easier for scenarios like "you are the offspring of a past hero, the world need a hero back and you are the closest we could get", the call of adventure being an inherited destiny.
something like happened to one of the protagonist of Castlevania Nocturna, the belmonts
BELMONTS
yeah, the habit
. Thanks tho
wait what I was just excited đ
if there is one of those races that age slowly like elfs it could be used like a character for the story//npc
different party except for one member
the previous players were... something...
Yea
But they should at least be putting out books! Physical media is important!
Beans
Two members
tarkus got promoted from co-dm to fulltime player tbf
If they could make it accessible, sure, here it's so hard to come by that it's being resold at like 5x the price
...they could just print more books
Would that make profit is the thing
Nope not much profit company to fast popping out digital pdfs
After three months!
So it goes.
what?
I would like to do in concept a party that thier past ancestors were from a group that hunt evil creatures and the world need them back.
or at least that is a future direction they're going in. Something about AI too.
God damn it
i need some proof about never printing books, because thats literally their main source of income
isn't it the prescriptions?
... what?
subscriptions
... did you read what the subscriptions give you
the idea is apparently that buying is no longer having
Someone gave me an idea and now I wanna do it
Welcome to the 21st century! Terms and conditions may apply.
YES
VERY soid build
Like, going any amount of levels in both honestly works to the benifit of both
Nobody builds STR rouges, kinda like how nobody really builds DEX barbs/paladins
If stealth fail, try Stealtimidation
Flex your muscles so hard that the guards understand, if they say something no one will arrive home alive or be any body for the grave.
I've built a Dexadin before lol
Doesn't mean I have to like it or that it's an objective good.
Did you defeat the big snake
We're literally still in session atm
Nintendo?
Na. Im not saying nobody plays them, just the people who play them are Nobodys
So kinda like the bloodlines of the them
oh
go back to killing god 3:<
Don't get me wrong, I want to play DnD, but I think getting 5e used might be the better option
Thats indeed a take lol
Once again, I must be Odysseus then
even if the new dragon designs look awesome
Dude, you might want to actually research what youre saying
Thats only if you get it off DnDBeyond. Theyre very much still printing books
-# in fact, they announced a new Ravenloft book soon
yeap
My last dungeon master said they dont like dnd
New Ravenloft book, and a Big Book of Magic were just announced
potential Dark Sun down the line
Dark sun?!
yeah they did an Apocalypse subclass UA that had stuff like "Sorcerer-King Warlock" and "Gladiator Fighter"
Broke my tooth đ
Wait your DM said he didn't like DnD ... What does that mean?
lots of games outside of dnd
he'd likely prefer to play some other game
I mean I know
sorta like saying "I don't like Call of Duty" there's a million games one might love that aren't Call of Duty
like super mario 64, its like cod but if its pve, more about movement, without gacha and 10% more italian plumbers
WoD is the next ttrpg I want play and learn after DnD
dnd are the only ttrpp books that actualy stale valuable and in demand, could be a wait
Absolutely not, as a collector I can tell you that is wrong :,D
I want to buy the 2024 player's handbook starter set but idk if I should buy it before even playing once
Play then buy if youa re able to tbh
from the looks of it, I haven't been able to corroborate one Dungeons and Discourse's claim.
oh, shes got no truth
All I found was a picture of Ganon battling Quan Chi and his twin
The game is free, the Basic Rules are free, you don't have to fork over cash yet
yeah thats just a clickbaiter masquerading as news. She's a sensationalist
IIRC you only get one subclass in the basic rules
Yeah, you donât get many character options but it is possible to play for free!
She's selling you an angry worldview and pessimism
I just hope you like the subclass you get
the "discourse" shoulda cued me in
All I see from her thumbnails is just It's Over, it's all Over , Over and over idk đ
FRIENDS..
My Spirit Dragon daughter showed up to help us fight Oroboros...
But she's grown now?
I guess spending time with Diancastra made her grow up fast
I dunno if it's temporary or permanent yet though
Hopefully this is a good thing?
Your what?
Sneak attack with a rapier
Daughter.
My Wizards daughter is a Dragon (not biological, deck of many things stuff)
Sneak attack with a great axe
Sneak attack has to be with either a ranged weapon or a weapon with the finesse prop I think
Sounds like maybe time travel shenanigans with future 'daughter' coming back to help (Oroboros being an organisation in my fav MMO City of Heroes which is all timey wimey)
Ooooooooooohhhhh
do followers of gods in dnd typically try to recruit others to follow?
Yeah probably
I did
Recruiting people to follow Baphomet in Waterdeep
whatâd happen if you met someone who didnât want to be a devotee or were already devoted to someone else?
what the heck
is there a lore guide for followers of specific gods in dnd anywhere?
That's what a Priest does right?, or are the Priests of Baphomet different?
is what what a priest does?
You just check the wiki of the god and you see what they would usually do
I feel like itâd depend on the god
ye, mostly
wait do the wikis tell what the followers do too?
Sometimes
what?
What do you think a priest does?
I believe those are cultists.
same thing
not really
Recruit people, kill people, pray to their god. Those things, right?
a priest is like, a higher level of devotion, anyone can be a cultist, but not everyone can be a priest
Priest is a specific title
Hey uhhh what the heck is this age verification nonsense that I am seeing on DnD Beyond? Are y'all doing the same nonsense Discord is doing? The website isn't forcing me to do this but they're making it sound like it is mandatory?
Ye I'm still pretty new at dis alr?
Priests dont recruit people, they preach, yes, but they aren't actively seeking new members, and cultists are more forceful in their recruitment methods
K-ID thing?
Yeah.
thats been there for a while, but its somewhat needed
If I remember, the American term is missionaries? They are typically the ones recruiting
and what's the british term?
Am I gonna have to upload a picture of my face or something? I'm gonna be pretty damn upset if that's the case.
I do not know
LT made a post about it a while back.. you can see it in the link to the FAQ #dnd-announcements message
And for cults it's usually more personal for their recruitment, often being very manipulative.
Good to know I can at least play DnD with a semi relaxed conscious.
Oh thatâs siiiiick
And what if it wasn't a stranger but a cow?
ask your DM
No but i mean. Would you listen to a cow?
I would listen to a cow. They have very wise things to say
Like âmooâ and âmoooâ
Otis
Holy cow thatâs a bovine pun
join the Cattle Cult
Udderly rediculous
moothing that mudders
I dunno, sounds like something to ruminate on.
Yooooouuuuth
this gives me an idea
... that was a bad one
I like this idea a mutTON
approved
Oh wait it might work
We have this sheep dudes, Caoraa
Idk where to get the other half of the sheep tho
are you guys just playing Backyard Farm campaign?
idk enough english to think of udder puns
oh nah, I'm just saying what happens to my character. a LOT has happened with the others.
And i mean A LOT
Animal Farm DnD edition
Oh wait i can't send all the stuff that happend here
how many sessions have you played with this amazing character
Would be flood and stuff
I think that makes 8 with this last one?
I'm pretty happy ngl, Best char ever
but now i have to learn how to preach the word of our glorious horned king Baphomet
Gonna be playin a swashbuckler rogue next campaign. Cant wait
Ever think about how intimidating monks are
Just how much aura they got
The amount of pure presence
Of a guy with no armor, no weapons
Just hands
... The monk I played the most was loaded with weapons.
Well your guy isnt as cool as my guy :(
I had poison darts everywhere, a sword, a staff, a whip, a bow...
im guessing not even a kensei
Character idea a Tortle monk with two katana
for all the rizz people have about flight⊠if you get shot out of the sky, isnât it immediate death when you fall and take fall damage?
Alr check ur dms
you go unconscious, start rolling death saves then take damage when u hit the floor
does the damage for instant death get reset for each instance
?
You have to take enough damage to go unconscious for that
Which is rare, especially at a decent level
You can usually land if your hp is going low
you dont instantly go unsoncious when you fall...
when u get to 0hp ⊠while in flight, you fall while unconscious
Flying pickle is afraid of flying
Iâm a warlock human with every Eldritch invocation as an origin feat and chose tough on everything, my only meaning is tanking
ok, thats a different scenario from your intitial one, but its only instant death if you take more than you max hp. Otherwise, 1 failed death save
that WAS my initial scenario
Yes, if you go to 0 hp while flying you will fail a death save due to fall damage
You wonât immediately die though
It doesn't seem the same
we have different words for âshot out of the skyâ i guess
But flying is still good because hitting 0 hp is rare and healing options are common
Shot in the sky
Not
Shot out of the sky
Or shot while in the sky
but does the damage needed to instant kill reset with each instance?
yes
if your life is 100, then you take 50 damage twice
You will only instantly die if the fall damage you take is more than your HP max
has to be 100 or more
sounds a bit difficult to do at high level
Hey do any adventures let you get golem manuals or the amulets for shield guardians?
Shot out of the sky usually refers to something getting blown up and out of the sky
thats what power word kill is for
Idk English isn't my first language i read shot out of the sky I was like so it means
Someone was in the sky and then shot from this particular sky to not sky the ground maybe?
Why are you flying high enough to take that much fall damage??
If you have 100HP max and youâre falling, you need to take more than 100 fall damage to die instantly. If you take less than 100, you fail a death save instead for taking damage while unconscious.
ppl tend to fly high above all the time đ€Ł
You got 100 health, and get knocked to 0 while way up in the air, you might die on impact but its not guranteed. The damage done from falling at terminal velocity is only 20d6. This sounds like a lot, but you're basically just gonna roll 60 hp of damage cuz of math.
Confused tbh
You need to take [Current HP + HP Maximum] damage to die outright from getting hurt, so falling isn't likely to kill higher level PCs
Feels like an Icarus moment in that case
Just fly lower! You usually donât need to be more than 20 feet high
Early levels make falling scary though. I had a PC die from falling 30 feet intentionally
You'd be surprised
We truly went from cow talk to Icarus đ
One of the many reasons flight isnât as broken as people pretend it is
yaa, a wizard taking fly also preparing featherfall is crazy
If you fly too high and go unconscious, youâre gonna get hurt
Fly, when it ends, sends you down gently iirc
Does anyone know hor reliable dungeons and discourse is? I've seen two videos from them and it seems like they're just causing a stir and I feel like they're untrustworthy
it doesnât
does anyone know what would be a good drop from a giant crab?
Nope
Per 2024 Fly at least:
When the spell ends, the target falls if it is still aloft unless it can stop the fall.
I have never watched them but the general feels are click baity and negative af also people seems to be making videos about them (in a bad way) so I wouldn't count on them much)
oh huh, must be thinking of levitate or something
Pieces of shell to make armour
Maybe Feather Fall, which is explicitly designed to prevent fall damage
that sounds cool ty
Flying is still pretty nice
Just be careful and youâll be fine
maybe one of their shell plates can be used like a shield
But what if you fall in the water?
Yeah, itâs great, itâs just not broken like a lot of people say it is
tru
Damn it's SO HARD to find a pbp game to join
That counts as being careful
Iâd say it still deals damage. Falling into water hurts if youâre not an expert diver
What kinda of Crab is it and can you just make up an item?
You'd probably still take damage since hitting water from way high up is like hitting concrete
its for a level 1 party
As we all know from Minecraft any amount of water is enough to entirely protect from a fall
This will definitely work
Totally
Full or just half although if it is high enough it's the same as solid ground (I would say roll a d20 to see how good your diving stance is regardless of survival)
Full
Fall damage doesnât take into account the consistency of what youâre falling onto/into
Just a shell part nothing complicated
Tasha has rules oin diving into water iirc
kk ty
BRENNAN LEE MULLIGAN IS ON TED SEASON 2?????
How much did Family Guy make Seth đ
XGTE has expanded rules for falling, but nothing to do with falling into water
i remember something abouit falling into water explicitly, im confident it was tasha
I would rule it as falling into water up to a certain amount of feet deals no damage, but afterwards deals the same damage as regular falling
Archimedes himself
so apparently in baldurs gate 3 after patch 8 the top 3 characters changed where
- wyll -> hexblade warlock
- astarian-> hexblade warlock
- shadowheart -> equally life domain and death domain
You can seriously hurt yourself jumping 30 feet off a diving board, so I'd say the damage counting starts there. Where regular falling would deel 5d6 damage at 50 feet, water would deal 2d6 instead. Or maybe water deals 5d6 at 50 feet too, but none at 30? Something like that
Youâre right. Itâs one of the natural hazards. You can roll a DC15 Athletics or Acrobatics check to take half damage when falling into water. That said, if youâre unconscious, you canât roll a check so youâre taking full damage either way
yaaay
I love being a bladesinger wizard, having bladesong down, and nowhere near enough to the threat to where activating bladesong would be useful without losing action economy and still being able to do damage (finally got in cantrip range, at least, ig) đ«
you can still strike at his body
Life's hard for a little fella like me
I've also been bloodied the entire combat đ
I seem to understand now, when my math teacher said i would need to study well
Beans
Don't flame me but part of why I love dnd is because of math
I loved math at school, so now that I don't have it as a subject in uni I use dnd for my math juices
Puny wizard...
Whenever we meet with the wizard in my party I say his HP instead of his name
I donât think anybodyâs gonna flame you for liking math in a math-based game
hello everyone i was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to a good dm im currently in campaigns with friends but am debating on dm a campaign in the future
I- I used to but then I went to ride bikes during the 9th grade (I didn't had one so I had to sit behind someone) after that from ace student to idk barely passed 4 years later in last year of high school đ
i will flame you if youre getting big numbers or too low numbers
He's not puny
He's probably the strongest person in the party combat-wise lol
What a bike does to a person
You can be strong and puny
During the battle are you like hey 10 Hp sorry 6 Hp wait 4 Hp
should death saving throws be secretly made by the DM?
Only if thatâs what the table agrees to
I was young and reckless đ
He's average height
Actually probably taller than majority of Harengon :p
He's also typically the first person to charge into melee đ
That depends. However you want, really. I make my players roll so I only us two can see. Imo, players should roll dice instead of dm whenever they can, it's fun that way
And you can blame their luck instead of yours!
Nothing puny about a fella who isn't scared to die >:p
I think hiding rolls is a kinda a bad tactic maybe not at the start but later
The game assumes players are rolling their own death saves, so if the DM wants to try something different, thatâs a session 0 topic for everybody at the table to agree to.
Yep
I'd say if you can, make it so only you and the player rolling know the death saving throw result
Otherwise just let 'em roll
We beat Oroboros!!!!
YEAAAHHH
Either way, anything thatâs different from what the written rules state should be discussed and agreed upon as a group
We killed a God today đ
Good job :DDDD
I knew you could do it
that's gotta build up bad karma
My current group for example has the player roll their own death saves and âwhisperâ it to the DM. That way the player and the DM know and everybody else is left in suspense to strategize re: what to do with things like healing. But thatâs something we agreed upon as a group
Same, oddly. Our 4e party got tired of Vlaakith
Depends on which God you killed
My Wizard almost died 4 times
But now it doesn't matter he can retire...
He also got a new dragon egg
New daughter??
Two dragon children :D
Hey why'd you steal my name
Itâs going to be real awkward when you have to explain to them that theyâre adopted
For every nick I would had a nickel
my full government name is actually Nicklaus so technically i didn't steal it dw fellow nick đ€
Hohoho
Oh well then it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance nickfella
Santa
dap me up fellow nick
I'm sure after about the 5th elemental breath they'll figure it out, dragons are smart
It's cool and all till you find out your name means just the number in another language (the original language of your name to be precise)
It's Oroboros Reincarnated..
However, when he's Reborn, he loses all of his memories
Perhaps my Wizard can raise him with love and maybe bring in a new Deity of light
That would be nice
We just need to get out of Caceri now
Apparently Vlaakith isn't even a god, just close.
Nope, she pretends to be one to the Githyanki people, though
Her people hate her too much to worship her as a god
So when are they adding more eldritch invocations to 2024 edition?
The 30 we have rn arent enough?
Never.
anyone else notice that in the "editions" section of the webpage they completely omit the holmes, moldvay/cook/marsh and mentzer basic sets? honestly kind of a big miss there.
Even better, 50+ i was low balling here apparently
More invocations would just be a bunch of blubber too at a certain point
Xanathar's ones work fine despite being 2014 edition.
Hey, I'm thinking of getting the dndb hero tier and am wondering if it's worth it
not compared to the ones we had
Theyâre fine yeah but I would still like them to be updated
Why do you want it?
Mainly for the unlimited characters
god no
also where? Im guessing extra books?
Yes
I mean if you like making PCs sure.
Tasha and xanathar should still be fine in a 2024 game
Tasha works pretty seamlessly. Xanathars has some stuff that have some issues
Mainly Shepard Druid.
I don't think they quite bridged the gulf that made using cantrips other than eldritch blast worth it, although its a nice thought that you can buff other cantrips now.
It was mainly due to fan demand I think
Not with the intention of other cantrips being on par with EB
what's the deal with Sheaprd druid? I haven't really look at that one.
It relies on how old summon spells worked for most of its features
