#how can I focus during polyrhythms
120 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Hands separately
Once u lock in both hands, combine
It’s trial and error
Ur gonna make a lot of mistakes
And then the more you play the more comfortable it gets
When it’s fluent, u should be able to play both patterns independently
okay
Don’t depend one hand on the other that’s how most people when they first learn polyrhythms screw up
Like they think in terms of keeping both rhythmically proportional
wdym by that?
U have to split your brain
Into treating both hands independently
Instead of treating as right hand depends on left hand and the other way around
It takes a while to get used to
Okay thanks because I’ve been struggling so bad with it like I’ve been attempting fantasie impromptu and like everytime it feels like I hit a huge wall
i wanted to start over and try something easier but then the easier things get boring fast
I made this mistake whilst learning some pieces and it went as far as being unable to play without the RH 💔
that's a huge problem to run into, once your RH slips up, the LH forgets what to do n the piece just stops
yep, bach helps with that a lot
YES
that keeps happening
DAMMIT I CANT ESCAPE
nope, no escaping bach
I’ve been trying to shortcut and just get straight to playing songs out of my league hoping it’ll come to me
💀
That’s most beginners mistake
I thinkkk that's possible, because that's roughly what I'm doing too, but it really shows in your playing that you've taken that "shortcut"
sigh
learnt a mediocre chopin piece when I should really be practicing my czerny and bach
alright then I guess there’s no avoiding Bach
indeeddd
what's your level like?
Take a step back take your time to learn
You wont regret it
Instead of banging your head on one measure learn an easier piece and it gives you that much more xp
beginner
I only know one song
but I learned it decently fast but I fear that gave me overconfidence
with sheet music rightt
….
💔
😭
yea so learn to read, play some bach, play some easy pieces you like listening to, and THEN think about how to handle polyrhythms
I might’ve been only like playing by ear💔
Synthsia or what ever its called is ruining begginers i swear 😭
😭
LOL
I didn’t know it was this bad💔
Ur falling for the majority beginner trap
in my defense it’s easy to
Its not just start now frfr take a deep breath and learn properly start simple
yep there's genuinely people around who call themselves a pianist of 8 years but havent touched a single page of sheet music
Stephen Ridley
There was a period where I genuinely tried to learn how to read sheet music
but it felt too complicated I would say
Thats why it's awesome easy bs is easy for a reason
I'm serious, once you've been doing it for a few months, it'll start feeling very natural
Yh like
I genuinely find it harder to learn from synthesia
Than sheet music
🤣🤣
alright then where do I start I feel like a toad in a well
Dude same
Sheet locks it in
Dual encoding
But also
Ftfw
wtf is that
I find le preux easier than Beethoven’s tempest sonata
Using sheet and spatial awareness instead of just memory
so it’s not all muscle memory😭
maybe start at figuring out what the type of notes are, what notes correspond to what keys on the piano (+ treble / bass), then about key signatures and time signatures
the rest you'll learn by practice, I started with this though
You have to know what your doing and the fundamentals for muscle memory to work fully
rests, expression, crescendos, staccatos, legatos, ties, etc, you'll figure out when they come up on some sheet music
aww man this is gonna take longer than I thought
https://www.musictheory.net goated website btw
2 days of 2 hour studying at most (for the basics) 😭
Dude you just think you would grab a piano and be amazing if that were true there would be billions of BA pianists the hard makes the reward all the more glorious
Just stay consistent
Good luck
You will do fine
Alright
Thanks for this btw
Lowkey getting the hang of it✌️
take it slow
alright
you are literally learning a new language
RIGHT
not gonna be fluent in sheet music in a few weeks
sigh I know
It’s the summer though why not spend time studying
although I would much prefer to learn songs I like and go no further
I feel like there’s no reason to limit myself
well do that
(unfortunately there’s no avoiding Bach…)
DONT REMIND ME😭
it already hurts enough to take however many steps back I just took
I went from a being a toddler to a new born
in just a few words and advice
at least you’ve been playing piano for six months or less probably
well technically I’ve been on and off for 9 years
