I have reached the intermediate level, and like kinda stucked on it for 6 months, how to improve to the advanced level, and how to achieve learning by ear skill?
For more information, I have played piano for 3.5 years, I got a 61 keyboard, and the hardest piece so far is Moonlight sonata 3rd movement.
I would like to receive an advices from top piano players from this server!
#How to improve to the advanced level?

practice lol
if u can play moonlight 3 at a certain level then youre advanced already
but it depends how well u play it ofc
for learning with ear there might be exercises for that on youtube
but it comes from experience
to get better technically, maybe practice some exercises (czerny, hanon) and every now and then select some passages from your favourite works to practice
make sure the passages arent too easy though because that kinda defeats the purpose
what do you mean by advanced level
you have to be clear in its definition
if it's just "i can play this hard piece so now i'm advanced" then it's probably not true
first at least get a normal size keyboard
also, the "learning by ear skill" is not important as being able to quickly process sheet music
yeah fair
maybe like a level that could improvise decently
or not struggle with works around henle 7
Yea, that's what I mean, and can learn any piece instantly
and I still don't know how to read sheet musics yet
I can, but like transferred alot of parts to some different things, not perfectly, because of the size of the keyboard
and I am not able to get a normal sized keyboard
so if there is any hard pieces that can upgrade my level in not a normal sized piano, tell me.
this doesn't apply for everyone, but for a lot of people:
breaking the barrier to becoming a self-improving pianist requires a rework of technique and mechanics from the very foundation
especially for those self-taught
I am one of them, and ye you are right
I like jumped from henle 4 to 6 - 7
technically, you could jump to 9 right now
just depends on how well you're playing the piece
Spending 2 hours daily for 1 month to learn a henle 9 piece is alright?
like I don't get scared from numbers, but is it average to spend that much time?
depends on which one it is
then u need to learn
i doubt it's enough
if he cant read sheets i doubt he can do a henle 9
henle 9 pieces usually have some kind of barrier that takes a long time to cultivate properly
unless he pulls a jaren
yep
some take multiple years
for the average pianist
to perfect
some take lifetimes
he'll probably be stuck at 7 till his technique is better
lowk why isnt prok toccata henle 9
outrageous
la valse
and they did prok sonata 7 dirty
it's 8 too
have you played it?
how tf is beethoven les adieux not 9
EXACTLY
nah
its fun
but ive listened and read through it enough
made my fingers bleed once
i would play it but my thirds technique is cheeks💔
cool
wild
its not even conventional thirds technique 🥀
chromatic though
im thinking of learning it
it sounds really great
and looks pianistic
did u not play it
no dirty tricks
those hand crossings look fuckable
nah
literally
or figuratively 💀
oh wait
i know which part you're talking about
💀
the middle, after the short pause
so many holes
those high register chromatics bro
how the fuck am i supposed to play those
the fingering will be impossible
i have a special fingering for the first time when the hands are 6 octaves apart
the c major ish one
the second time it climaxes is more gnarly
such a beast of a piece
id rather play la valse
id probably find it easier ngl
less difficult parts
but ill probably bleed out on my keyboard from those glissandos
actually no on my teachers steinway
noooooooooo
that shit is NOT easier
depending on how much of it you play
how many notes you omit*
i mean
glissandi do not hurt gng 💔
bro you do NOT know how bad my chromatic thirds and fourths are
the ravel ones do😭
my fingers are small so theres barely any room
at most i could do tristesse but those are completely different fingerings😭
i kinda dumped it on the parallel sixths tho because i was NOT going to use my teachers fingering
alborada
25 8
nah i have a feeling henle will meatride ravel and give it a 9
maybe i havent played enough glissies
a very strong feeling
ravel toccata is very tricky
la valse is 8 though
yes ik
a really good debate question is which toccata is hardest?
prok
ravel
schumann
id probably do rigaudon
theyre all different techniques
henle is trolling 🥀
henle's score library is so incomplete 💔
yea
like dawg they have ravel g concerto but no left hand
i need the other prok sonatas
and im doing left hand
did they not
the g major is so fire tho i gotta do that
d major >>>>>
its kinda easy
meh
wait which composer
im not scriabin bro
ravel
g major is ezz
my teacher said she could teach me
cus well she performed it live
oh cool
i guess its not that bad
i have its book
henle
didnt learn though
left hand goes harder
frfr
instead of doing that shit they do chopin waltz discovered in 2024
☠️
did they?
bro wtf
the notes probably
already
its like toccata just toned down
in a way
i dont think they have the polonaise-fantasie
should be
but who tf plays that fr
they do
bro i just checked
8💔
oh shit
cmon none of the others reach the emotional peak of pf
musically is 9
yep
meh
pf is chopin going avante garde
bro
yknow the chopin etudes
and how debussy's kinda mirrors them
okay but like
i mean the debussy is probably much harder isnt it
certainly has more notes on average
but chopin is just nasty for your hands
or miroirs
nah
better than 95% of other alkan
ill do it sometime
ive listened to chemin
ew
bleh
too sweaty
the worst one 💀
literally higher quality than esope
yep
NO
are you high
chemin is just rambling nonstop notes
festin de esope is full of tension, variety, and tragedy
Ye, I liked that 3rd element
sonetto 104 would be a good piece then
but
it might not be for your level
i mean if u try to play it u might uh
massacre it
but the nice parts arent super hard
and 61 keys arent really enough for it
Ye, and I got a second problem
I still can't read sheet music
so I gotta get a vid of it
and it's not that poupler
so Ig I won't pick it
I still feel learning sheet music is a waste of time
trying to play pieces above your level while NOT being able to read sheets is a waste of time
you could never get to a higher level than you are now if u dont learn
thats kind of a bs mentality but ok
because a lot of hidden things sound so much better than all this tiktok bullshit imo
I don't watch shorts so I don't know what poupler btw :D
anyways, Ig I will learn sheet music then
and learn la campenlla ig?
I feel it's a good one tho
or maybe flight of the bumble bee
neither are near your level to be completely honest
if you want to play some nice pieces
maybe
you COULD try one of the movements from Beethovens pathetique
but these are very easy to mess up if your technique is not good
it all depends on how well you play your current pieces
or tempest
yeah that one depends
