As someone with adhd, I agree

It all boils down to the "education" system

#

We spend much of our time in school so its logical for it to be presumed to be our second home. Therefore it must be improved and renewed and altered to a better education system

#

It's sad that most people aren't aware of such problems in our reality

#

But I'd assume it would be an act of malice rather than love if education isn't based off of equity

#

Throughout the majority of my life I grew up not understanding why I was so different than my peers and it only hit once I decided on doing my own research

I agree with them, it's really terrible how neurodivergence is portrayed on social media. It really stigmatizes it and reinforces a lot of stereotypes. It's so important to have an equitable educational system that supports everyone instead of a system that only caters to a select few. Like that's insane tbh

We are the next generation and the future. So how will we improve the system? How will we govern our world and reshape it to support everyone so that we are all comfortable

The world is a strange place, we are alienated to a planet that is supposedly our home

#

We need to strive for change

maiden phoenix

#

It's a spectrum and therefore it has to come in different states, shapes and sizes for everyone. It truly differs from person to person

hollow lake
#

My only motivation, since I only rely on it at this point

#

How did you figure out it was adhd?

I was desperate to find out why I struggled so much with school, sorta bumped into a video that talked about adhd from a youtuber called "how to adhd" and realized that the shit she says resembled me completely, I researched and continued reading about it until I was sure that I had it

Majority of girls with ADHD(or ADD) tend to be quite timid and don't adopt the hyperactive stigma people have placed upon adhd

#

Girls in genreal are much better at masking their symptoms then men which makes it reallllyyyy hard to spot it

#

It's unfortunate that most people go throughout their life thinking that they are simply worse because of a different way of thinking

sterile heath
#

I'd reccomend taking the behavioral therapy your psychotherapist/psychiatrist has told you to do more seriously

#

It helps alot

hollow lake
#

I only thought it would waste my time, but the sheer essence of it's making makes me understand that it was made for a reason and that I should give it a shot and that that reason in particular had worked for many people before and continue to work for people, otherwise why would it be made in the first place and continue to coexist today

#

Yeah I should

#

I should talk it through with my doctor after m/j

hollow lake
#

I only grew and became better at it

#

But it was always something I did, but never acknowledged doing.

sterile heath
#

Plus, you and I both know that there is a high chance you may forget🥲

#

The adhd brain works much better when you have a structured day

sterile heath
#

Exercise and sleep is probably the best thing before medication

#

Then it is just a matter of how many habits you can accumulate over the day

#

Since they build up really quick

#

Getting the necessary vitamins and omega-3 acid is very important aswell

#

I used to have a major issue with brain fog in the past since I didn't get the proper nutrition

#

Additionally, since we are still in puberty we have the huge advantage of supplementing our body with nutrients that we need in order to grow with more quality

#

Adults on the other hand, would have a much harder time at changing as their body is already done growing

#

So I'd highly advice you take care of your body as much as you can and nurture it so you can reap the benifets

#

Also, adhd can "dissipate" when entering adult hood

#

Behavioral therapy helps with that

#

As your brain is able to prioritize growth in what it needs, and organizes your neurological structure to adapt

hollow lake
sterile heath
hollow lake
#

Does that mean that medication wouldn't be needed by then?

sterile heath
#

But besides the structure, you can be entirely ridden from ADHD

sterile heath
#

I can go off medication for around 4 days without any problem if I maintain a proper routine

#

Infact, my ability to focus degrades exponentially regardless if I took my medication or not

#

If I don't maintain a healthy lifestyle

hollow lake
#

Ohh, so it's only dependant on your life style and habits

sterile heath
#

(I say this as I'm procrastinating mathematics)

sterile heath
hollow lake
#

I assumed that because our dopamine level is screwed, we'd have to depend on medications for the rest of our life

sterile heath
#

Nothing can entirely depend on something besides your heart beating

sterile heath
hollow lake
sterile heath
#

Our brain would actually be ideal if we were living in the stone age

#

We just have a different way of thinking

#

Not a entirely bad thing

#

The world is structured for people who arnt neurodivergent

#

Therefore it's harder for neurodivergent people to adapt

sterile heath
#

Not entirely a bad thing, you should use it to your advantage

hollow lake
#

Advantage?

sterile heath
#

I have been called "smart" countless times just because I use my different way of thinking to my advantage

#

Just breakdown what adhd does to you and compare it to a more orthodox way of thinking

#

You'll find that you usually view stuff from different view points

#

More thoughts

#

Desire to find a solution at the end

#

Asking more questions

#

More impulsive

#

Etc

#

You also may take stuff more literally

#

Which I found out while speaking to my doc

#

There are many aspects the neurodivergent people have that other dont

#

And vice versa

#

We all lack something

hollow lake
sterile heath
#

And it's our job to fill them

sterile heath
#

One thing they had in common is that they were always outside the box

hollow lake
sterile heath
#

And has an insatiable curiosity towards something greater

hollow lake
#

They were so focused, which to me, is never a trait I had before meds

sterile heath
#

Albert einstiens impulsivity and hyper focus led historians to believe so

sterile heath
#

You just have the tendency to get distracted

#

Not the lack of focus

#

People with adhd can focus much more than the average person

#

That's a fact

hollow lake
#

That is IF they had a reason to

sterile heath
#

They just struggle to do so as it tends to only apply to stuff they enjoy

hollow lake
#

Deadlines don't work on me anymore

sterile heath
#

The people I mentioned above, all loved what they did

#

They were motivated by something great

#

They found that reason

sterile heath
hollow lake
#

Probably a spectrum

sterile heath
#

It's been proven that the brain struggles to comprehend deadlines

sterile heath
#

Prior to my mocks in igcse, I hated chemistry

#

It never appealed to me

#

I think I mentioned it once, but I got a 4/40 in my mcq

#

I ended up watching a small short on how 1 second can be universally determined by how fast a ceasium atom could spin

#

I decided to look for that reason in my book and started realizing how cool everything was once you actually read and reason

#

I ended up with a 34-36/40 on my real exams

#

Same thing with a level mathematics, I got a low A on my mocks since I didn't grasp the concepts hence they were boring, but now that I found ways to apply them in real life, I'm getting around 70/75 per past paper

#

Never complain about your deficiencies, find a way to turn them around

#

Ammend your flaws

#

That's what it means to live

hollow lake
# sterile heath Not when you constantly ask questions

Weirdly enough, I can't seriously picture einstein ever struggling with the symptoms of adhd. I mean although he might've been impulsive, and had other symptoms along the way. But his approach to learning doesn't accumulate my personal experience not even an ounce of it. I'm not sure if its because of the spectrum itself or that I don't know enough about his personal life.

sterile heath
#

It was mild high functioning

#

Though as long as you are not genuinely interested in what you're learning

sterile heath
#

I believe there is no reason to try, regardless of your mental status

#

There is a reason you can scroll on social media for hours

#

And barely complete a past paper

#

It's because of your lack of interest

#

If you can atleast trick your brain to enjoy what you're doing

#

Then you'll succeed

#

It's how the human brain is wired afterall

hollow lake
hollow lake
#

If it were never a struggle in the first place why would there be research about it? I mean for all there is to be I can just work with my symptoms instead of against, but what if I tried? What if everyone else did but also failed? Why shouldn't it be an excuse?

sterile heath
# hollow lake How can I trick it?

Gamify your studies, add relevance to real-life, add rewards, study with friends, visualize your success, add breaks, specific times of day tailored to studying so you constantly feel the urge to study( just like how you'd wait the whole day to go out with your friends and not do anything else), create an enviroment solely for studying to make it seem special, and use different study methods to make it more engaging,

sterile heath
#

But it will never 100% eliminate adhd

#

For example, I took my medication 1 hour and 23 minutes ago and now it has taken effect while messaging you so I'm hyper focused on this conversation

#

There will always be flaws

#

You should try to use those flaws to your advantage

#

For example, I should've been studying 1 hour after taking my medication so I could hyper focus on my studies instead

hollow lake
#

I heard it many times from people "your mental status shouldn't be the one to blame regardless" but I think it's a quite perplexing approach. I still don't get why people say this despite all the struggle that come along the line with neurodivergence

sterile heath
#

Drowning in the despair of your neurological difference will only do you injustice

#

Find ways to turn it around and strive for your goals

#

If anything, consolidating this predetermined notion that you can't do anything because of the difference you have relative to other peoples brain structure

#

Will only harm your way of thinking

#

The first thought that comes to mind when you struggle will be that difference

#

Making you think less and less

#

Leading you to spiral into complacency

hollow lake
#

It is true that I'll never behave in a particular manner or think in a particular way because of it

sterile heath
hollow lake
#

Different maybe, inferior, not so much I guess

#

Academically speaking

#

Yes

#

Quite

#

Inferior ig

#

But socially, I'm like everybody else but also am not

#

Its complex

#

I have to go, nice talking to you though

I would highly suggest you watch this video in your free time as it is quite informative https://youtu.be/hFL6qRIJZ_Y?si=DpRxMKuOTzuqlNcx .

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to discuss this topic.

In this episode, I discuss ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder): what it is, the common myths, and the biology and psychology of ADHD.

I discuss both behavioral and pharmacologic treatments for ADHD, and brain-machine interface tools. I also discuss behavioral training protocols that can improve focus in people with ADHD and those wi...
