@atomic monolith bro you're so lucky you don't realize
You don't have to worry about fees that literally tear you apart
Think about the int students, how life is actually miserable
I don't want to be in a 200k debt but that's whats gonna happen
@forest locust combined with first year being free for us domestic uni students.
Pretty good feeling lol
I guess it's a incentivize to stay in your country own uni.
@atomic monolith depends on what your own country is
@ashen brook yeah
in some european countries you can apply for a loan from the government
hey has anyone considered doing BBA for their under graduation
here
have you?
yep BBA
UK?
i wish to go there...
so you want to apply to uk @grim quail
i think i have...
oh wait, there is a jain school in my area...
idk abt that college...
the programme is a global BBA program
if i am studying in india i'll be staying in my city itself...
alright I was just suggesting you a program
It is your wish to consider it
or not
Lmao denku : )
is anyone considering applying for a university in Germany?
@thorny tangle was aiming for it bc i heard its hella cheap but then u have to stay a whole first year studying lang so no thx
@thorny tangle i want to but i cant find any decent ones
@thorny tangle be careful with German Unis coz some teach only in German 😬
thats a big oof
Is anyone here going to apply through UCAS? I need some help
@tranquil summit ^
@tawdry quarry bruv ;-;
lmaoooo
Lol somethins wrong with my Dm 😬
change settings
which unis are the best for BBA in Europe?
Hey all, I was fortunate enough to obtain a good result in my AS exams. I am currently applying under UCAS and would like some recommendations on some of the top finance or economics courses (just finance, finance+econ finance+accounting) in the uk. I know of top schools such as LSE but I would like to be able to consider other options.
The guardian 2020 uni standings are out, might be worth a try for a general list, ofc it's not the one and only list but it'll give you a good idea of the big names and stuff @pallid dove
check out the times list as well
which unis are the best for BBA in Europe?
That's the discount version of asking "what universities are good to study on the north hemisphere?"
Can I apply to NUS with only A-Levels and IG and School Report ? Do they need Sat ?
depends on the course
Does anyone know the average time universities at UK need to reply to applications, applied back in early December have received acknowledments from all but have corresponded with only one, about information requests and mailed them my predicted grades, still waiting for something from the other 4
Your predicteds weren't uploaded by you referee? @ocean ember
They were
But the unis need official signed and stamped documents
Whenever they ask
Ah oki
They didn't ask me for it tho
Usually 2-4 weeks
Medicine takes longer ofc but you're not med
any competitive course at the specific uni, will take more time and the more "popular" or the one with more applications received will also take more and Scottish universities always tend to take a lot @ocean ember I'm still waiting for 3/5 unis at the moment got conditional offers from Sheffield and York and I'm waiting for Glasgow, Aberdeen and Loughborough to respond. Both offers are AAB For Computer Science 😄
since many people over here are waiting for their choices to respond
don't feel bad if a certain uni has rejected you
a friend of mine has an offer from Cambridge to read maths, and she was rejected by St Andrews due to "there are extensive competition for places this year, and we deem your application not competitive enough"
lmao
@ @urban ruin did u hear back from any?
yep
@languid crag I got an offer from one which I like a lot, I'm still waiting to hear back from 2 Scottish universities, one being my safety and one in Canada
why do some UK colleges require you to send your predicted grades separately to them if its already uploaded on UCAS by your counsellor?
Med schools usually do idk why
weird
we have around 15 people this year applying for med
I didn't hear this from them
ooff the two of my classmates who applied said they had to even send their BMAT scores by email
thats 50% of my class
we have 8 LOL
15 people per class:
8 are chatting on their laptops
5 are playing online games
2 are actually paying attention
sounds fine to me
scale that up and you have uni
sorry sir for using the wrong channel
a bunch of kids messing with their very expensive laptops instead of listening
like i am now
just that my laptop isn't expensive
np at all
lol
hey, she pulled me into plants vs zombies first
spoken as if I haven't played online games before
I mean 4 girls and 5 boys
oh lol
dd anyone apply to the hong ong unversty of scence and technology
Don't know
@primal wagon i did last year
dd you get n
no
wut
Wot
I applied in late december(main round) didn't get an offer yet
When did you get a reply on your application
@ashen brook
I never got
Seriously
oof
sad
Ah it's in English
HKUST is pretty good I applied a bit too late
Regret it a lot
Need to make sure I do all my future applications the moment they open
lmao
I started filling out my app to Leiden-TUD
last October
and I haven't completed it by now
is Leiden good?
what is TUD?
TU delft
oh
It's just that I can get in to most of the top 50 universities with my alevels results ...... But I can't afford most of them so I didn't apply with predicted cause I won't get schols....so I applied to alberta which is also really good but ranked at about 100
try the ones in Europe
I really don't know if it's worth staying back 8 months and reapply with my actual results
Or going to alberta and trying to transfer
you mean NUS and NTU @buoyant crane
I'm applying for engineering ....either chemical/aerospace/energy
ohh
Don't apply to South America
same with the rest
I decided to apply there as a safety because their chemical engineering program is very good
especially on research
Are TUD applications still open
aerospace, nope
chemical, yes
however
you'll have to study a year of Dutch first
aerospace engineering is taught in english
gl
aye
Is transferring actually a thing one year down
lemme check
I only know that Dutch nationals can freely transfer
ah
can't find any info
just write an email to the admissions
Lie thx
Okie
Do you think I should go to Albert which is a top 100 as well or simply wait for an additional 6 months to try to get into a top 50
well
depends on your focus
if your focus is in research, wait
if your focus is in the learning process, you should go to Albert
Hmm alberta does have a rather strong research process as well
?
and unis in the UK as compared to the US have rather crap researches
it's just an example
Alberta was the only good uni with reasonable pricing
if you know German, try ETH
Do you think I'll be able to learn German in an year
if you try, yes
Do you know if UBC has a good research program
Tag someone
Thanks aurora
Fingers crossed HKUST accepts me .....
Although I'm not hppeful at this point
if you are applying to Singapore
they will now also assess you based on your aptitude for the program applied to.
@buoyant crane yeah there's a 5 month fast track program that I heard of and if you do well you can continue your degree. Bu do they accept DPs though ?
@buoyant crane wait so how does this aptitude based admission work ? Do they call you for like interviews and suff to determine your aptitude in your subject of choice ?
I am not sure about that
Yo anyone going to Alberta/Calgray?
Prolly going to Alberta this year
God willing
Guys can someone tell me how to convert the canadian cirriuclum to CIE A levels because some unis/colleges just don't have A level requirements and it's so freaking annoying not knowing what the requirements are
Most of them list out AL requirements under the section of British Patterned Curriculum
@humble holly yeah but I am talking about the ones that don't
Most of them do but some stupid colleges don't care about other curriculums and only mention their own like OSSD
and then when I go to the int admission requirements it says you need so and so percentage, like that does not help me at all
@humble holly I might go to edmonton/alberta university for a sem, mainly as a exchange.
Nice
Wait everyone is gcse?
@cedar hollow nah we are all different levels. I'm finished with cambridge, but some are A levels, some are AS levels etc
new zealand
And literally ur username is United States of America
Yes cause of memes
🅱️RUH
uh
I think nearly 2/3 of us here are taking/has took igcse
CIE don't really operate in the UK/British islands
count me in...
Where u from?
in some international school in east asia
lets be honest, you cant really study englis.
english*
your best bet would be to do some past papers @cedar hollow
@strange spindle actually i found some notes of how to achieve a better writing and speaking skill ... thats why i asked for it ...
anyone has applied to University of British Columbia, University of York or University of Aberdeen?
@urban ruin i applied to UBC in mid jan
Is anyone going to San Antonio for studies starting 2020 Fall
@cedar hollow ohh would you be willing to share them xD
Anyone applying to uWinnipeg
what if i don't get all A* do i still get to go to America?
depends
some unis have highr standards
some have lower
but all A*s is mental for uni requirements
I don't think American unis need A*s tbh
My counselor told me that when you convert from the British system to the american system, you go up a grade. So if you had a B in the British system, you have an A in the american system
Check the recognition database in pinned messages @delicate scarab
^^
I know a friend who got like 1490 and he got a major schol from the University of miami
So I guess it really depends on where you want to go
I think the uvy league unis will check into your grades a bit
But with American unis rn....it's mostly about your Co curriculars, essays, interview, SAT sfore, etc.....
Regardless try to keep a target of 3-5 A*s if you can ... Because that will gurantee large schols in countries like Canada and Hong Kong from what I know
Wdym exactly?
Like insider information on whether student satisfaction, course quality, employability is actually what it seems
i've been to warwick campus, but not for accounting
best universities for artificial intelligence?
MIT
Sleeping depends on how fast you can study, finish assignments, projects and less procrastination in your work
Can you get 7 hours at least?
ah...
honestly i have my reservations about medicine as a field
i honestly dont think the effort and pressure is worth the money you're paid
@ashen brook but most of those who work as doctors don't go to medicine with money on their mind but to save others while at times putting their own lives at risk
the pay-off from doing that as a satisfactory deed or the recognition they earn in society is good enough for them
most of them**
6 years tho
^^ also lots of sleep deprivation and gruesome cases later
some people just love the day to day hustling
so in some ways it can be seen as appealing
tru
Doesn't school make us act like one?
i asked my auntie to tell me her journey becoming a doctor
she said during her freshman years she walked to the library and read a book
i kind of blacked out after that
Dude i dont know if i should tell this but uhh... Watching someone playing vr really make me dizzy i dont really know why dat happen to me
Hi all. Im going to be applying for US universities as freshman soon. Where will a SAT score of 1470 get me?
the question is too vague
maybe try telling us the course you are looking for
@clever surge
Im interested in computer science. But i heard its very competitive
yeah
i think you should get a 1500+ in SAT for the course
but 1470 is still a good score
Now depends on the university you want to go to and have shortlisted
@clever surge
Ah ok. It was my first attempt and i may retake it but im not sure if i can get any higher
but which uni are you targeting?
Guys, I'm looking toward the Ivies and Stanford, but I've got a score of 1550 in SAT where my eng is 780 and my math is 770. If I'm not wrong, I believe my math score is insufficient for these locations considering my target course is related to aero engi and/or astro/phy maybe even CS
To cover up for this, assuming I need to, should I give the ACT sometime in July to try and get a 36? Do colleges even consider the math score individually? I don't think I'll get another opportunity for SAT (do tell if I'm wrong)
You can retake sat if Im not wrong
I think it is best to shift to giving ACT now
as you have given the SAT two times already
Okay thank you
hmmm
try the ACT
legends said that it's easier to get a 36 on it
at least, according to the people I know who has taken it
and it depends on your nationality, tbh
some of the ivies are strict on their SAT standards, while others aren't
I believe that Stanford isn't one of them
for US nationals applying to Stanford, the entry bar is around 1520
for international students, 1550-1570+
mit and caltech are notorious for being filled to the brim with applicants having 1600/36
what truly matters when applying to stanford is that you have an 'entrepreneur' spirit, I have no idea what that exactly means, but I hope you get the gist of that
not exactly affirmative action
a girl in our school
she has australian nationality
and she has absolutely crap sats and extracurriculars with no APs at all
she got ED'd to emory
while a friend of mine
with great sats, extracurricular research experience, stellar gpa
was barely ED'd to emory
@sullen raven not exactly affirmative action, its the process giving preference to their own nationals
partly cos quotas, party cos institutional racism
yeh i was just mentioning affirmative action
Right I'll try the ACT then if coronavirus permits it of course
Could someone advise me on which unis I have a good chance in based on my interests (aero engi, astro phy, CS), SAT score, IGCSE result, possible IB result and ECs (etc if I'm forgetting anything) and also what I could do to improve my chances?
I'll give the above details if yes
I'm just very concerned with this pandemic going around... It's cancelling all my competitions and projects (ECs) and probably going to cancel my subject test and negatively affect my PGs
@versed hazel although I cant offer much advice in terms of uni, I can surely say that there are many students around the world going through the same thing so I’m sure universities will alter their criteria accordingly...in the meantime perhaps you could look into online activities or volunteering your computer skills anywhere if possible
Okay thank you
Hey guys, was wondering
Is it still possible to apply for UCL?
The UCAS deadline was 14tg
But I want to swap out one choice for UCL
The one that u got rejected
I*
In that case everyone would be swapping out choices after getting rejected
Extra is after results come out
I'm not sure
Tbh ik clearing is if you get all rejected or you say no
I'm not entirely sure what extra is
Only if you get all rejected ?
Yup or you say no to all of them
There was the option for me to apply to bath via extra
But it was greyed out on UCL
@cedar hollow its possible UCL is full
UCL vs Imperial..Which is better ? Not only for academics but a good social life too
i think Imperial has a better academic standing
social life i mean both are in london so im not so sure
both are expensive
well
not as expensive as my college
but still pretty expensive for international students
disregard this if you aren't such a el cheapo person like me
and
Imperial has a pretty bad safety
how do I know, I'm kinda ashamed for saying this
one guy in our school who went to imperial 2 years ago, he was notorious for picking fights over there
he would kick into people's dorms and beat random dudes up
or going to the bar and drug girls
I don't fing know how he still isn't in jail yet
so, I suggest you go to UCL instead
wow
Okay thanks @tranquil summit @ripe elk 👌
I’ve finally got an offer from UCL 😆 gotta make it my firm choice then
goddamn @tawdry quarry congrats !!
congrats !!
lol, I withdrew from UCL because it's too slow
Universities are not obliged to hand out offers until the end of March
I am a bit impatient
What would you choose USA UK or Australia for university as an international student
Depends
personally I want to go to UK
But different people have different preferences
^^
australia is generally far from home so keep that in mind
US has more fin aid
personally I don't like the us so it's a big no
as for Australia it's very far away and time zones will be mad (I generally don't want a huge time difference between uni and my home country)
UK is good for me because the education is great and it's not that far
Ok thanks
If you guys like know any scholarship for USA for international undergraduate mes can you tell me?
mes?
It’s typo
what do you want to study?
Actually my sister got into parsons but like the fees is too much
So I was just asking for her
she can apply for financial aid no?
She wants to study architecture
most unis i think would have a page on their website for fin aid for students
some are scholarships and some are deductions from the fee
I have been finding grants and scholarships since like 3 weeks
check if there are any that she qualifies for from her home country?
I can’t find any
or from instituions there
So I thought you guys might know any scholarship
like british council gives out some for the UK i think
their website says there is need-based scholarships availible
(or maybe im on the wrong website)
Let me see
provides a comprehensive program of financial aid services including significant institutional scholarship support based on merit and need. All applicants who file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are considered for Parsons institutional scholarships.
Isn’t fafsa only for us citizens?
Anyone applying to Germany this year?
amity university or heriot watt university dubai
you're looking at unis now? @weary rune
wow oki look at their rankings?
amity is very low
for the specific subject
but its cheaper
Amity?! The Indian one?!
Ohhh
same goes for BITS
has an amazing reputation in pilani, goa and Hyderabad but the one in Dubai is said to be good
has an amazing reputation in pilani, goa and Hyderabad but the one in Dubai is said to be good
@clever nest yea BITS is rlly good in dubai
i think they got 4/5 or 5/5 from khda
but the general rep I heard was this
from those who were tutoring for the BITSAT exam
and those who passed out of BITS too
hey guys
i am looking into Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University recently
I heard that they have a sublime engineering course
can I get some advice on how do i get into such a competitive university?
I got a 42 IB predicted
and I feel insecure for my position there
I feel like I need more certificates/acknowledgements to showcase myself more to such a prestigious institute
My friends all say that I should be grateful for getting a 42 predicted grade
but i still feel like im not good enough
my teacher Ms Babangida says that I need to be realistic and set my aims lower to a more achievable target or else I will be in the danger zone for getting crippling depression and non-stop constipation
my fellow humans, i am really struggling to reach a realistic goal here
my second choice choice for my university destination will perhaps be the Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology
but i feel like I wont be good enough for them as rice farming is too good for me
also im not sure if they will have a course focused on agricultural sciences and technology
can someone please clarify this for me?
tl/dr pls ty
I legit cant tell if this is serious or not lmao
very insightful
Did anyone apply for hk universities and got in this year....if so what’s the status of your student visas
@Auri @ashen brook and this question is also open to everyone else...
King's College London vs University Of Leeds vs University of Warwick vs Loughborough...
Considering the fields of computer science and electronic engineering and well everything else that matters like accomodation, student life...
The first two I guess
Any specific one for any reason?
Leeds is a more happening place than Warwick
But think about if you want the hustle and bustle of London
Living alone finding accomodation will prob be difficult
Either sacrifice on distance or price
Loughborough idt is that great but not sure
if you want affordable accomodation in london, youll almost certainly have a 30-45 min train commute
Hmmm
I think university of Leeds has this really good extended essay course that's super helpful for IB
hmmm
Also tuition in KCL is v high
Warwick is like 25k I think
that I'm unsure
Leeds is 21k
ye
but I've heard that the dorms in warwick's are nice
idd
But they've got good sciences too afaik
hmm
idk
but KCL's rather worthless if you think of the quality vs price ratio
I was applying on UCAS last August/September
and I was thinking on putting KCL as my fifth choice
You already applied to oxford tho-
the tutor went: you are only putting KCL just because everybody else does, right?
that's a different story
AhEm
unless
you're doing music
then KCL's decent
or was it royal holloway?
can't remember
then KCL's decent
@ripe elk KCL also has a pretty good nursing course i think
But for CS no, KCL isnt worth paying the London premium
This is truly depressing news
I am happy
I am sad
So are probably most the students who worked hard to get whatever score they have rn on the SAT
I mean @versed hazel I do agree with you on that
But you have to keep in mind how terrible of an indicator the SAT and ACT are
In the U.S., your SAT score is hugely important. But what does it really measure?
Become a Video Lab member! http://bit.ly/video-lab
The SAT college extrance exam is a gatekeeper of opportunity. But this wasn't always the case.
Here are some sources I found useful when re...
This might help
Plus studying for the ACT and SAT teach you no more than how to get great scores-
If anything that's most useless thing ever 😂
Yeah I totally agree with you
Luckily I didn't have to work more than a couple weeks on it... But I feel really bad for the people who spent so long and also lots of money..
yeah but Cornell's acceptance rate might go down
anyone planning to go to germany?
anyone planning for canada?
me
@mellow otter
Me
me mebe
anyone planning for canada?
@mellow otter me
Me maybe
anyone planning to go to germany?
@blissful reef me! In 2021
im a Malaysian who lives in another country and went to an international school
am i a Malaysian student or on International?
Malaysian, duh?
malaysian international obviously
lol
@thorny cove you would still be eligible for Malaysian fee status i think, unless if you've been studying outside the country for an x amount of time?
i think you would still get Malaysian fee status which is good :P
ooo tenk u for confirming
anyone know of unis in the US that offer scholarships to international students
merit-based ofc
specifically if i'm looking to do premed
tbh, I wouldn't recommend premed as a course for potential medical students
but the choice is yours
tbh, I wouldn't recommend premed as a course for potential medical students
may i ask why? just curious tbh

Does anyone know what subjects I should take for IB if i want to study computer engineering
I think this is the wrong channel but go with maths HL computer science HL and Physics HL
then your Sl's can be english your 2nd language and another subject
just speak in the right channel next time please
They don't have the IB role so they can't
To be more specific, go with Math AA HL, and like waffles said, CS HL and Physics HL, assuming you have these choices available @neat flint Just try to go for something that you're absolutely certain you'll be able to do well in easily for the SLs otherwise they'll just weigh you down unnecessarily when you can focus on the HLs (like me with economics)
@ivory temple coolio, what course are you planning on taking. Are you learning German rn ?
@ripe elk when u applied to uni did u apply to multiple uni?
@ivory temple coolio, what course are you planning on taking. Are you learning German rn ?
@blissful reef Physics
I ve started to learn german on my own you know basics here and there a few weeks back
Have to enroll at a german course at Goethe, waiting till quarantine ends
nvm @sullen raven i guess ill be in uni from my house in another country
yoooo congratulationsss my dude
oops i forgot to blur out my brother's name

Any tips/suggestions for university research
-Pick the major u want
-look up unis with good reputation in that major
-Read through the uni's programme to make sure it's what you want
-email them if you have questions
-you can also go get consultations from those education agents too it's free(in Malaysia at least)
ask me
Talk to teachers about it since usually teachers can put in a good word and help you
ask me
dont
why?
dont
@arctic flame ?
Also there's some schools who have connections to a lot of unis (like my high school) so you can ask the higher ups if they allow it
same
- make a list of all your current stats (grades, SAT scores, TOEFL scores, ranking, stuff like that) & your ECs (extracurriculars) and also make a list of any awards you have
also, don't forget abt your EFC (basically your budget)
make an excel spreadsheet, and based on this info, look for safety, reach, and match schools
big brain time
Also there's plenty of professors and professionals online like ig/fb/Twitter so you can dm them about it too
When i was unsure about taking env.sci I found a Harvard env.sci professor on Instagram and dmed him
yes! and connect to students from the uni so u can ask more qs
He helped me quite a bit too
Everyone's your resource tbh u just gotta ask them nicely
Don't be afraid to reach out is all I'm saying
@arctic flame ?
u know man
so i dont want to go to calgary
i found some good unis from a uni expo we had here
@strange spindle those are great too!!
They're usually very helpful and would introduce you to the uni's they're pitching for
Always check around the news to see if there's any education fairs and all that
My city has like a handful in a year
But in my experience they don't give you too much info on the uni itself unless you're going to ask specific questions, or are just looking for uni names
yeah that is true
Or if you're going with friends and compete with collecting as many freebies as you can
Then it's fun
Oh yeah hahha
They bribe us with food too
go ham on them by asking questions
Also u can follow their uni meme pages too hehe
just chill with students
I followed a uni
and now there multiple students associations are following me
Basically if you don't know, ask
A lot of ppl are really willing to help you as long as. You're polite about it
Welcome to my College Decisions Reaction Video for 2020. As an international student from India, the timings for these decisions are all over the place, but the emotional rollercoaster is still the same.

just cried after watching this wah
Uhm, wanted to ask if there is any good uni anyone knows for ethical hacking?
What would be a good college for someone wanting to pursue Aeronautics, specifically flying?
Find a college/uni that has an airstrip/airport 😂

Hey I was recently looking for universities to apply to, and the requirements say for example “ AAB when taking 3 a levels or BBBB when taking 4 a levels “ and I was wondering what if I got AABC but I took 4 a levels, would I still qualify for the requirements ?
Like is it possible for me to show them only 3 of my A levels when I took 4?
Like is it possible for me to show them only 3 of my A levels when I took 4?
@lethal drift you'll have to scan your certificate so no
@sullen raven did you have to pay Bayaran Menunjukkan Kemasukan(BMK) when u registered?
it costs like 300RM and for whatt reasonnn
uhhh no man, just an application fee of 150rm
ouh ok scaam
@tranquil summit Then is it possible for them just to consider 3 of my A levels when i took 4? so i can meet the requirements of taking 3 A levels
Tbh I have no clue
You'd be better off emailing them
It seems like a loophole though
Doubt they'd allow it
Esp since when you scan your certificate it's there
most unis in UK ask for 3... but if u add 4 and their requirements is say AAB... and U got AABC I dont think they wyd reject. Unless they have subject specific requirement, like if they want an A in math and u got C in math... sorry mate not ur luck
So I'm doing A levels in november and getting my results in february ucas deadlines is around august unfortunately. Are there any other application windows after february that I can apply in order to go to uni in 2021?
you can apply directly to unis i think before march
oh really? So if I apply at the end of feb I could go to uni in 2021?
dont you get them mid jan?
Cuz I checked the some uni websites and I think they say that the deadline is august or something
Nope
august???
august 2020
no I'm dong A level
lol
I'm not in the uk I'm doing my exams privately in november and getting my results in 2021
ucas opens from sep of the previous year upto oct 15 for med/ vet/oxbridge and jan 15 of that year for all courses
im joining manchester this sep
Yeah
but for next year, you;ll just have to push it to the laast min to enter your nov grades and send
thats what my senior did
But it is possible to push the deadline?
you can apply before the jan 15 deadline
to push the deadline you'll have to contact the uni directly not thru ucas
wait wtf
In my country we get results mid jan
*feb
Yeah
I'm gonna apply to Manchester UCL and Bristol
Also Uni of melbourne
I'm not gonna get predicted grades from my school cuz like I'm doing the exams earlier
Thanks for the help
CIE
check with your exams officer again just to be sure
Yeah I'll check
cuz i remember my senior had to wait until she got her results, and she logged into ucas from school and sent the app
yeah the online password
If it's not too intrusive what did you grades get?
still waiting for my aug grades
ohh so you applied with your predicted grades
yepp
btw why not 5 unis in the UK?

yall I wanna know if there's some kinda discrimination when applying to unis as a private candidate
compared to applying as a regular candidate
might be a problem if u r applying in india tho...
immigration wise they might ask for a certificate from a school
which depending on where you live can be relatively easily obtained
might be a problem if u r applying in india tho...
@grim quail yeah :/
Hey guys... I need advice on applying to US colleges from A-Levels. I know I have to do the SATs but apart from that what are ways to increase my chances and what colleges are good for say 1350+ scores. Are SAT 2 required despite having A-Levels? What are ways to get financial aids? Etc anything wud help plz.
SAT 2 depends on the uni afaik
^
@unkempt star The US side often look for all-rounders, so sure, take dat SAT and (often optional) SAT2 in a subject you are good at. But make sure you work extra hard on your application essays to show them who you are as a person, with interest, thoughts, etc. And pray your recommendation letters are good.
A college/uni's financial aid may not be available for NON-US citizens, BUTTTT there are usually many scholarships by the uni/college or other organizations! You just have to google hard and crawl all over the uni websites.
thanks!
does anyone have some insight on how to apply to french unis?
Ecole Polytechnique to be specific
Same q
for the next 4 months
@ruby pebble u re doing A levels this oct? ME too! Wondering the same question
But I guess its about coveribg the content and practising, quality over quantity eh?
quick questions
what is credits
Credit is basically how much weight a particular course is given. The credit system varies from uni to uni but in my uni I have a total of 120 credit hours for 4 years which means I have to take 30 credits per year. My courses are divided into 3 credit hrs and 6 credit hrs courses. 3 credit hr courses last for 1 semester while 6 credit hr courses last for 2 semesters. @thorny cove
tysm for the brief explanation and example

but i think i still need to watch a 20 minute long of utube videos explaining credits 😐
So if a university asks for a "Certifying Statement of Results" from the exam board, will every grade I recieved and/or exam I sat for with that board be shown?
I ask because in a previous session I did 2 modular exams with Pearson Edexcel IAL: P1 Math and Unit 1 biology (out of 6 modules respectively)
Due to certain personal circumstances, I achieved a U in P1 Math and a C in Unit 1 Biology
Going forward I plan to do the other 5 modules for these subjects, as well as a full IAL in Chemistry and Arabic, and to resit the 2 exams I screwed up in October along with the other AS Modules
If I resit those 2 modules and get a better grade, will the better grade show up on the CSoR sent to the university or both the better and trash grade? I ask because I worry if they see a "U" on my record despite resitting and achieving a much much better grade it will be held against me
I was originally under the impression that only your best grade shows up but if every grade does even those you resit I might be in trouble
After doing a bit of googling, I managed to find a document that references my predicament, can anyone who recieved a CSoR after resitting a module confirm?
HEY
lol okay
@here, is it normal that I'm applying next june and I literally dont have interest in anything other than aviation and I can't afford flight school atm
lol
Can't work in my country airline, needs a strong middleman.
fuck that

what are things that a person should have to enter MIT
or, enough money to bribe the AOs
around 80k USD can get you into NYU
disclaimer: don't do it, I don't want lawsuits pointing at me because I somehow gave y'all the idea of it
do y'all know if manchester uni is good for someone planning to immigrate 😔✌️
do y'all know if manchester uni is good for someone planning to immigrate 😔✌️
@cedar hollow which uni you go to has nobearing on whether you can immigrate
the key to immigrating is getting a job in the UK after you're done with uni
namely, a job that sponsors your Tier 2 work visa
that visa gives you the path to settlement after i think a decade of living in the UK
my extracurricular activities suck but my weighted GPA is 4.3 out of 4. Which unis u guys think i should apply for ? (I'll major in CS and/or Maths most likely)
USA definitely
If you care about ranking/prestiges in case it links to job chances with tech companies, go search those US ranking websites for unis top in CS/Math (you'll see things like Purdue, U o Arizon, MIT, etc).... but be aware that these are huge Uni's where the prof's focus is on research, and you'll probably be in a big lecture hall.
If you don't care about ranking, but want close contact with profs and maybe better guided undergrad(?), search for smaller colleges (that focus more on teaching undergrads and not so much on research). The price tag numbers are usually more expensive, but they tend to also have more scholarships.
Note that some unis (especially top ones) care a lot about not just the GPA, but who you are as a whole person: personality, character, extracurricular, culture, etc.... you'll need to show these in your application essays, with as much importance as reporting your GPA.
@cedar hollow
do y'all know if manchester uni is good for someone planning to immigrate 😔✌️
@cedar hollow as a uni itself tho, it's a great place! And a great city
ok I'm just biased cuz I join next month
oh nice!! is it affordable though? tbe currenncy of my country is worth significantly less than sterling pounds, i want to make sure i can handle rent and tuition
£25k tuition per year
Rent is significant in most places in the UK tbh
The further from London the better the rent
Manchester is good cuz lots of students
anyone has any resources of euclid math contest of this university
@honest nest I did this competition back when i was at school!

Euclid math looks easy, but difficult in puzzle solving...!!

zjunjunia#6215 tips fam please tryna get into waterloo
@mellow venture

Yeah the questions are mostly IG Math or Add Math level but they have some tricky geometric questions. Just practice as much as u can with the past papers they have on their website.

I actually didnt end up applying to Waterloo..
zjunjunia#6215 o nah im aware but just wanted tips cuz youve attempted it before
@steel spire uwinnipeg would be preferable but its costlier, i have no idea if i will be going to uwinnipeg now. tuition fees added upto 50 lakhs per year didnt seem worth.
Anybody know a college with a great aviation program (flying)?
Preferably something other than Embry-Riddle since I haven't heard the best about them & it is mad expensive!
guys, what universities are good for Electronics and Information Engineering other than ICL? ( courses similar to it)
I've seen some such as Edin ( Electronic and CS), Bristol ( Electronic and CS), but I am unsure whether it is better to go for that course or opt to more generally known course i.e Electrical and Electronics engineering
which is a good computer science uni in where one of you have been to
nanyang technological university
it's a pretty highly ranked uni, i think #15-16 in the world
it's also not costly and you can cut down costs even further if you sign a government bond
yeah singapore in general i've heard is very selective and like cut throat
Germany and france have some good unis too
but like the language is different
my compulsory suggestion to anyone applying to europe
cough the netherlands cough
they don't have a clean-cut grade requirement, but the undergraduate workload itself acts as a student filter
it's basically a loose enter, strict exit
the dutch government used to have a student loan mechanism (before 2018) where the loan will automatically turn into a gift for dutch nationals if the student successfully completed their undergrad degree
but as I've said, the research universities in the NL are hard to graduate from for the average layperson (that's why only ~20% of the dutch high school population enter a research university)
many did eventually dropout, and had to pay off their loans
Ayy anybody out here applying early action in the USA with A2level predicted grades
@ripe elk Yeah even TUM does not have clear cut requirements for A levels. They just say you need to pass A levels
Is Loughborough University a good choice?
how is it the fifth
@arctic flame
Depends on the course

Interesting
z may i ask where are you from.
I chose to study the A level course to study at the europe/UK/USA parts. But after many changes in between, my parents(asian) doesnt want to send me off to those parts and said I should pick a school close to SEA. So i decided to pick my dream country which Ive always wanted to study at, Japan. Bonus info for those who mite find this useful: finnished the national Japanese test N3 during my IG year and currently(but really slowly)completing N2 so my japanese can be considered quite ok to study in japan.
The problem is I am halfway through my A level course and I dont want to drop it so I was wondering are there any top tier schools in Japan I can apply with A levels?
Also I forgot to add this but I plan to choose the economics or business management/entrepreneurship path
z may i ask where are you from.
@remote wasp Pakistan - but I was born n raised in Saudi Arabia
Ohh cool
@orchid chasm i recommend not stopping half way if u wanna do uni there thats cool but moving to places amidst something really important can be complicated
Just my 2 cents on the situation might be better ask more people
Oooh I had a A-Levels friend who got a scholarship to go Japan uni!
Which Universities in NZ would you recommend?
@orchid chasm I think for non-Japanese citizens, A-levels are accepted
check out the individual university webpages
^ as an example
@fast thicket may i have more info on this?
I don't know much info too, haven't talked with him for agesss
Just googled his name and found this on the Internet lmao (so this is all I know)
