there's a section that talks about limestone
idk anything else
What about case studies for hydrology
i only know the ones in the book
Paper 12 wasn't so bad
Can you guys tell me how your paper went todayš
i didnt enjoy paper 12
i wanted to do question 5 but i didnt like the 8 mark question
i did q6 instead
<@&597283564295290880> could u say that a country experiencing an ageing population will increase death rates?
Yes @lost helm
Overtime the death rates would drastically increase
I have checked marked schemes for this and it is a mark +1
@buoyant compass can u get four marks for explaining it tho
It was one of my points for an 8 marker about death rates in the exam
Yes you can explain the reasoning behind it to get more marks
what is relief
what is triangulation stations
Assess the extent to which floods are caused by human activity.
any ideas
<@&597283564295290880>
what u explained
ohh
its a question
Human actions that can exacerbate flood risk (changing land use the river catchment, .A combination of economic and population growth during the 20th century has caused many erosion; river embankments: designed to protect from floods of a given magnitude.
@deft citrus
How come there arenāt any A2 geography notes
@royal beacon we don't have a contributor for it at the moment, would you like to contribute?
Does anyone have the geography octnov 2020 papers ??
what exam board
<@&597283564295290880> how do i answer this question:
"Do some research and explain why some countries are LICs, some are MICs and some are HICs and explain the cause of these differences briefly." literally dont know what the fuck that means like how much research? what differences? am i just dense wut
not a geo helper (and sorry if this is late)
but maybe define what the optimum population is (also what it does)
link it to some food shortage case studies as well
provide counter arguments as well for that
such as the optimistic food law theory of boserup
if you're looking for caie go to gceguide or papacambridge :)
maybe use case studies that you've learnt about for LICS,MICS and HICS (or look at countries that are HICs, LICs and MICs)?
talk about the birth rate, death rate, fertility and also for differences (these are a few pointers that you might need to add more detail to, i'm not sure if they are too right)
- LICs/MICs have poorer healthcare in comparison to the HICS (this could be due to the fact they don't have enough wealth to fund for it, this means they also can't find medicine for preventable diseases like cholera, which could also be linked to their high death rates as well)
- LICs have a fluctuating death rate (due to war or conflict) whereas HICs have a more stable death rate
- MICs/HICs have lower birth rates that LICs-this is because they are more used to have smaller families, contraception is more available and also women are more educated (because they are more educated, they are able to plan out their future, are more aware of family planning schemes and are more aware of contraception methods)
- (carrying on from education) they are more aware of childhood diseases and how to prevent them as well
there are alot more points you could make other than these but i hope this gives you a good starting point :)
znask set "Geography Helper"
hi idk if this is the right place to ask this, im actually doing evm but there isnt a channel for that lol, whatre the challenges posed by a youthful population? i cant find much info in my textbook or online anywhere
@hexed trellis hope this helps!
There's an AS EVM tb..?
anyone writing geo tomz?
pretty late reply but i did write that :)
how did it go and what variation did u write?
hydrology question was pretty weird tbh
8 marker was kind of confusing
not sure if i did the ādelta shapeā question right as well
did w21/13
oh i did 12 the hydrology question we got for the 15 mark was a pretty weird too i wasnt expecting them to ask a question on drainage basins
i mean i studied it a bit but not in depth enough to have enough info for a 15 mark
but ye the paper was pretty weird fosho hope paper 2 can get my marks right
honestly hoping the same as well
what was your question
dont remember exactly but it was something like "climate is the greatest factor in affecting stores flows and inputs in a drainage basin. To what extent do u agree
something like that i dont remember exactly doe
thatās pretty weird tbh
How is privatised healthcare and education a solution to a youthful population?
Could someone explain plzš
privatised healthcare helps with increasing more access to medicines that help with preventing common childhood diseases such as measles
the decrease in dr of children (or imr)
also eventually leads to less children being needed to be born for labour (in lics children are typically needed to help w/ agriculture and as a result of high dr rates people often give birth to children as a form of insurance especially for people who are aging-when they get older they also need children to look after them)
education allows for people to be more aware of these childhood diseases and the medicines (or remedies) needed to prevent them and people also are more educated on family planning and contraceptive methods as well
also education can also be linked to societal values-people (especially women) are more likely to focus on their education or careers instead of raising a family and giving birth to large families
as a result, raising children can also be seen as an economic burden (and time consuming burden) as well especially for women who have to spend time outside work also having to care for children as well
also as a result of education people become more aware of the consequences of large families and children are also seen as an economic burden (children cost a lot of money to be raised etc)
this is all i can think of for now but iāll add more reasons later if i remember any
Thank you so much! makes a lot more sense now for sure
np glad to help :))
Also when ur studying for geo, do u memorise 1 case study or do u have a general understanding of a bunch of different case studies so u can adapt in the exam?
number of case studies
some questions require one case study (eg: questions on antinatal/pronatal, one time they asked a question on one cs of migration->character flow pattern as one q, push and pull as another q, and impacts as the large 15 mk)
but the majority of questions i've seen so far usually require a number of different case studies
sometimes (if you plan to go for migration) they'll ask for a specific factor (eg: age/distance) as a constraint/push/pull factor and how much to an extent you agree for it
you can probably use international and rural-urban cs to talk about your points
also you definitely need multiple cs if they're talking about dtm
or anything about changes in pop structure etc
yea cuz i was probably gonna do population so ill look at different case studies for LIC MIC and HIC for sure
I was looking at knowing a case study for anti natalist as well as a pro natalist CS too
but now that u mentioned the DTM if a question on that were to come on DTM for loads of marks it could be rough for me for sure
cuz my teacher didnt rlly teach us how to properly integrate a case study into our answers so i have to look at old candidate responses to learn lol
ohhh makes sense
because i'm pretty sure they already tested criticisms of dtm
so you don't need to worry about that section
for the 15 marker
yea i have looked at them but not in too much detail but i saw one on the dependancy ratio which was something different from what i've seen
but surely they wont ask a question on that in the nov paper if it was already asked in the m/j paper
yea but odds are is that it might come up as an 8 marker
hopefully not but you never know
yea true say... ill go over it tonight for sure jus so im not completely lost if it comes in the paper
gotta do relatively good in this paper to make up for paper 1 because paper 1 was pretty tricky
but grading thresholds for geo haven't been too harsh as of the past 3 years so hopefully it comes in handy lol
hoping the same as well
yup
actually just looked at that paper
i assumed that the dependency ratio thing was a 15 marker and thought it would come up as an 8 marker
probably won't come up as an 8 marker i think but might be snuck into a 15 marker ig??
yea im watching videos on it as we speak haha
knowing cambridge they might jus throw it in knowing that we wont b expecting it
but yea it was jus an 8 marker but to answer the question would b a lil tricky cuz the answers that the mark scheme r providing r a bit different to how i was thinking
not much but still
so i jus wanna have a general idea of what to expect if the question were to come tho
especially bc paper 1 was trippy haha
yea i'll probably do a plan on that question or smth later
just so i can get an idea as well
yea man cambridge have been moving pretty fcking weirdly lately wit the papers theyve made... especially wit math paper 1 smh
oh no that was even worse
or still the same amt of worse as p1 geo
even y13s in my school retaking AS said it was hard :')
thats how u kno it was bad haha
but luckily for us it seems like the paper was difficult universally lol
counting on those grade thresholds to come in clutch fr fr cuz math was rlly tricky for me
on past papers i was getting like 45+ points but in the actual exam id be lucky if i scraped a 30/75 lowkey haha
yea man i left the paper feeling like all my hard work was a waste of time
worst feeling
yea ikr
yup they better scale everyone well lmao
was lowkey relieved when the smart ppl in my grade lowkey felt the same abt the exam too
bruh and in geo only me and this other dude take it haha we're only 2 ppl in the class smh
same situation but except with me in chem class lmfao
thereās only one other person who takes geo with me in that one
yea it was even worse for some accelerated y11s
apparently one of them broke down after the exam
damnnš nah but i understand bruh that paper 1 was proper difficult bruh... the questions that were on our oct/nov paper werent on any other paper so it was completely different to the questions they generally ask on past papers
yea and we only have 2020 papers to practice off (also m/j/2021 which was easier lmao)
ye exactly cambridge did us dirty fr fr lol
@verbal copper how did you find paper 2 today? :)
Wait have u written already?š³
I write in 3 hours and 30 min but how did it go for u?
How long ago did u write? Cuz Iām doing the 22 variation of the paper
How did it go for u how was the last question?
Did u get the dependancy ratio?
last question was on anti natal policy and natural increase
same question (iām pretty sure) as w20/23
only 4c is identical
no way thats such a good question
that means im not getting it tho smh
nah i write in 3 hours
its 6 in the morning right now
ohhh haha
but i write at around 9:30
dependency ratio is likely to not be tested for you guys
since it was tested at may/june series
hopefully bruh i dont think i have the facilities to answer that
update me when youāre done then
yeah same tbh
but i really hope you guys get an easy question bc it seems like p1 was hard
ye for sure
yea same man praying fr
needa do relatively well on this paper fr
bruh so u guys got anti natal that means we cant get that right
well sometimes what they do is repeat questions or give questions in the same topic
or you might get one on the other remaining topics
donāt bet on the repeating question scenario tho
bc itās a very slim chance lol
yea exactly
you already know the other ones that might be tested right
nah i dont tbh but im relatively comfortable with all topics i think lol
ppreciate it! ill tell u how it goes
wait tho
whats an unlikely question they could ask for the 15 mark
cuz the majority i saw were to what extent questions
but nah it should be alright
idk if there's any unlikely questions i can think of
i mean it's too late for me to say anything bc by the time you see this ping you'll probably be done lol
nah ye jus finished writing
got a question along the lines of "managing underpopulation is easier than managing overpopulation" to what extent do u agree
so i jus talked about the anti natal china policy and the difficulties wit managing that
also talked about swedens pro natal
think it went alright
time pressure was a bit mad tho i cant lie
struggled a bit too wit what to write exactly ngl
ohhh that one seems pretty decent as well
pretty sure that might be a repeat past paper question as well but idk
yeah same here
felt like i could have written more tbh
how was geography y'all? those who wrote oct/nov?
Hi! MJ22 IG student here, wanted to ask how Geography is at AS and A Level!
How do you find the subject? What's the jump from IG to AL Geo like?
me :)) did w13
physical was a mess but human was better
IG to AS for me is kind of a big jump
itās more essay based than IG geo
also a bit more material to know than AS
the questions can be a bit weird at times and theyāre usually āto an extentā questions where youāll have to argue about different topics based off different case studies
the change in format (or in the content especially with the 15 markers) might come as a bit of a shock as first but once you do a bit of practice doing essay plans and essays youāll get a hang of it :))
Thank you!
Do case studies feature very prominently in the qps?
well they kind of do
let me show you a practice question
in this one for example, you'd be expected to use an example (eg: green revolution) and discuss it for the 8 marker
for the 15 marker you'd have to talk about several different case studies (or examples) of different countries
to talk about it
one for the argument the question asks for: "increasing wealth puts excess pressure"
another to counteract it (you could use the green revolution again?? maybe)
or you could just use one example and discuss it as an argument
probably didn't word it well enough but hopefully you get an idea??
in others you'd have to use multiple case studies to back up your arguments (for example, discussing overpopulation, underpopulation, dtm stages etc)
you should definitely try to use as much examples as possible for 15 markers (in both papers) because that will probably help a lot with your answer
also another thing that i forgot to add, definitely take a look at exemplar responses from earlier years to get an idea of how to write a response
bc the mark schemes for those questions can be really brief and weird to look at
they only provide a bunch of points they want you to address or would expect people to address
Thank you for all these details! I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier; I didn't see these messages š
I guess I'm sort of
wondering how much of a bother it'd be to learn all these case studies
I don't like them very much at IGCSE, even, so to know that they're pretty central to answers at A Level is š„“, if expected
Do you think independently studying the subject is realistic? My school technically offers the subject, but I had a chat with my Geography teacher and she told me that she's never actually had an A Level Geography class because not enough people opt for it š
and also that the school doesn't have much in the way of resources either
Does this mean I'd have to mostly rely on textbooks/other sources for exam preparation? For IGCSE Geography I use mark schemes quite generously to learn content so
Don't worry, I did understand! So a balanced essay response with support from multiple case studies on either side and I'm guessing a final evaluative conclusion as well?
yea
i'm thinking of putting in some mindmaps that i used in here so look out for them
that would be really nice :D thank you haha
won't include all topics but i'll try get as much as i can
bc ik how much of a pain AS is
also let me dm a revision guide and textbook to you
not here bc of pirating lol
@novel blade
includes some atmosphere and weather (will upload more later)
sorry late reply but it is realistic i think??
but it'll definitely be a bit of a struggle to learn on your own
it helps to have a teacher (like yours) to guide you
even if you decide to learn it on your own, maybe ask her if she's willing to do a bit of tutoring (you can refer to it like that if you want) bc AS can be hard to learn on your own
ohhhhh that makes sense
yes probably
but for some you can get away with one like the antinatal policies
might send some essay plans for some topic to you later as well
in this channel maybe??
@novel blade most atmosphere and weather questions (with essay plans)
didn't include all bc some of them aren't that detailed
Would you be interested in putting these up as model answers on ZNotes?
yea sure why not :)
also could you pin these mindmaps??
i really hope these can help others here bc there are so few resources for geography
also this site
You can put the mindmaps up on the website on the resource bank too!
ok :))
Hmm, okay, I see
That makes sense
So if I choose to continue w/ it I'll probably have no choice but to find some form of external support
Thank you!! These are really detailed
would recommend you to do that
np :))
Hey, does anyone have the course book in pdf?
Greetings @everyone ^^Hope yall are doing fine. Does anyone have A2 notes on Tropical environments or climate? If so could you kindly send them to me

im kind of struggling and i need some indication or example of a structer to follow
how did everyone find the first paper?
rivers essay was nasty but overall okay
everyone was in the same boat i think so don't worry too much
if only i had mass movement case studies š©
Good luck guys š
Wasn't too bad
Both papers were good
