np (:
@coral cedar hope you found the info you were looking for
Yes I did thanks!
guys uhm
after general medicine programme
it's residency right?
hOW DO U GET SPECIALISED BC IM GETTING DIFFERENT ANSWERS
what do you want to specialised in
for which country?
diagnostic, gentics etc
i think in general after med school you like rank your preferred specialties and then like according to your grades and some other stuff during med school (ie essays, recommendations) you get matched for residency
i want to get specialised in
cardiology
and where are you based?
- Bachelor's degree (four years) 2. Medical school (four years- two academic, two clinical training) 3. Residency in internal medicine (three years) 4. Cardiology fellowship (three to four years)
well I'm doing igcses in nigeria and likely leaning to doing foundation + med school in ukraine but i'd want to get specialised in the UK or US
ahh its normanly the same process
sites tell me different things and it's frustrating 😭
ahh
well concentrate on ir igsce for now
and just worry about the subjects you need for medicine at alevel- mainly chem/ bio and physic or maths
i have to take 2 english, math, chem, bio, physics, business, dt and geo
i do more subjects
ahh
but theyre not relevant to medicine
makes sense
i was referring to alevel
you defo need chem/bio and its prefered to have physic or maths
hmmmm idk which subjects i'd take 4 a level, like obvs chem bio math
idk which other subject i'd take
im gonna take chem/ bio and i wanna take politics but that doesnt have anything to do with med
me still trying to figure out why my dad keeps screaming pg when all the sites tell me you're gonna need residency :
ITS RESIDENCY RIGHT.
he confuses me
bc I'm p sure after med school you do internships, then apply 4 residency
and actually for gcse - they look at them so you need to do well in them as well
they look at english igcse
glory be to god i actually think imma pass gcses
thats good!!
heres one
for alevel
and i had another one
thank you
also like after medical school getting specialised = residency
this is for cardiologist
that was great help tyty
its alright i have more but its mainly for unis
Hey so after 5/6 years of mbbs then you can become a surgeon by residency only?
i made a word based on
my research
do you want it
what kind of surgeon general or?
tbh if you're considering going to medical school, it's good to have an end goal in mind (your desired residency), but just remember to go into med school with an open mind, as most students will develop interests in other subjects/systems.
you have to do residency then fellowship in usa
in the uk its a little more complicated
according to my research
Am not in either lmao
which country
But I think Uk is more universal?
i'll research and get back to you
Middle east
Thats as far as i could ever get
Thinking general or cardio
hmm any specific country
Bahrain and Syria
I'll research and get back to you
Thanks mate
Non-surgical specialities also require residency usually it’s 3-6 years. general surgery has the least amount of residency years, some places might be more than 3 though
thanks a bunch :)
anytime :)
can you take a subject like physics for as/a levels if you didnt do it for igcses?
So there is no need for another degree related to surgery? Just jump straight to residency?
yeah
Oh cool
Thanks
would not reccomend
you could do it over the summer tho
my dad is heavily insisting on physics
i'm shit at it though and hope my
school says no
what course are you interested in
medicine
I mean whether you take math or physics (or both) for A level, you’re gonna study them both in med school during the first year or two. If you’re interested in US or Canada then you’re gonna have to take them too in college since they’re premed requirements
I'm interested in Bulgaria it confuses me a tad bit because it doesn't mention physics in its requirements
some unis don’t require math or physics for applying just chem and bio but I’m pretty sure you will have to study biophysics and biostatistics at some point in your first year or two of med school
you will defo have biophysics
okay thanks
hi
SSD isn't necessary imo but would help. If you can spend money on SSD, I'd recommend you get a process that shoots you up to 3.5 GHz
Also what about your VRAM?
Hi guys! Quick question... do y’all know of any careers that combine any 2 of: psychology/ econ / business ?
@crimson willow Thanks for answering
Leave what I typed before
What are the recommended minimum specifications you recommended (to be safe in choosing)
I dont plan on installing movies and
games( maybe just few) as of now
Hopefully this would gave me a wider variety of choices and make it easier to find some of those laptops nearby
16 GB RAM
1 TB HDD
4 GB VRAM
3.5 GHz processor
VRAM?
Oh
So ram, storage, VRAM and gpu?
Is what this list is?
Yes
Is this for both 3d and 2d engineering?
Should be a good start yeah
Universities usually do have computer labs so hopefully I'm not gonna have to worry about picking the right right right one
Yeah
But having a good build/laptop can be so useful in ways you can't imagine
What ways?
For my case it'd be video editing/streaming. I didn't expect the pandemic, nobody did, so my rig is pretty solid with stuff like that
And gaming helps me ease out sometimes
But that's just my story
Video editing?
What subject or course
Yeah I needed it cuz we were doing these lectures and they needed some editing now and then
This was beyond it
See that's the thing about uni, there's so much more than just your set of courses
?
No I mean this is like student clubs or self driven stuff
Oh like testing your knowledge and having fun
Learning yeah
My requirements were just that I could study and occasionally play games on it
Yeah yeah you are older you have experience
Also what do you mean ^^^
I meant it's a good starting point yeah
But going forward I may have to get more storage or better graphics?
Storage idts, graphics yeah ig
If you have a good budget wait for the 30 series to be integrated to laptops
The latest set of GPUs from Nvidea
This if for CAD or software like that right?
I mean
I've seen CAD run on 2 gigs of ram
Just go the site and cross check the requirements
Sorry if I'm disturbing you, but what exactly is this for
CAD?
The graphics card
CAD's website?
30 series
Yeah I meant whats it for
Gaming, from what you typed i don't need it for CAD
Is what I understood
Yeapp but power is power yk
Upto ya
Sorry I was kinda afk
nw
This is it
Thanks a lot and sorry if you got annoyed
Thanks and peace
To anyone reading this ^^^^^
@crimson willow oops sorry forget to ask you one thing
Yes?
Whats vram for
Wait did I ask this already
No you didn't
Yeah that's it
Oh
You need that?
Wait are there any other softwares
Or is it just notes and notes and notes
Matlab?
No it was just an example
But you will rarely use them right?
Matlab?
No I think matlab is essential
Wait should I even be spending time asking about this, its not gonna affect my choice too much I guess
When are you going to uni?
In 1 year or more I think
Hmm
To anyone reading this ^^^^^
industrial counselor?
this is a good website for A-level courses and what kind of degrees you can take
desi's - only medicine ones for us hehe
And Engineering lol
what a levels shld i take bc i didnt do physics in igcses and my dad heavily insists but im sorta shit on it BUT FBD
What degree do you want to do?
medicine
LMAO
LOL
My parents are forcing me into engineering
Coz medicine is expensive lol
You can do bio chem Math A level
thats enough ig
LMAOO
Well first, don't worry about what other people are saying about your career choices
Just pursue the thing you're passionate about
Yea if you do something that you don't like, you may do it poorly and not live a happy life
It's not a question of money there
Like @elfin dust said, it's about passion
My subjects are Maths, Phy & IT & m planning to pursue Computer Science & earn a Bachelor's / Undergraduate degree in it. I want to Study in US can someone plz guide me & tell me the affordable Universities so I can continue my higher education ❓
What is your definition of affordable? And what do your grades look like?
US universities can cost $40K-$70K per year including living expenses, and its rare that they give scholarships to international students
Interesting @marsh dagger cuz i heard that us gives the moost scholarships to international students
The good unis rarely do
Esp for undergtad
The lower tier colleges do give a reasonable amount, but at that point it usually makes sense to join a uni in your home country
Honestly if you are going top 20 then no scholarships but I guess its fairly easier to get scholarships in the US
$30K & my grades are good
usually all the top universities aren't below 40k but scholarships and financial aid would help
anyone have anything to say on industrial engineering?
What's the obtainable jobs with a BSC in Mathematics with computer science
my sister did this and now she's at microsoft
yea lol

Whats exactly her role there? @slow widget
oh wait mb not BSc just mathematics like not faculty of science she graduated from the faulty of mathematics
i was mistaken
but she did computer science
oh okay then
my bad, ill have to clarify with her then
ill get back to you in a bit @knotty quartz
There is😂
BMAT*
Its a medical exam you have to give in Thailand if you want to enter a medical uni
so she said "Bachelor of Computer science from the faculty of mathematics"
yeah

there is? wtf
Yes
why is mine not BMathBPhys then
Aishu there's one in India

Thanks for the info
Np
Should I study chemical engineering when my math is bad?
I got a D in Chem mid-term! Still planning to do Chem Eng. So go for it maybe?
It won't have too much math dw
oh really? The Youtube video I watched talk about calculus and other stuff that give me brain fart xD
Yeah tbh that's just like basic math
It'll be calc in 3D
Don't fret about it
Can you send it in? Lol
Anytime
sure, let me find it haha
I wanna do 3D modeling and stuff
like design
and photoshop
and some coding aswell
what subjects do I take?
For A levels
And in uni
what courses do i take
for design and all stuff take IT
it has photoshop as well as video and audio editing
I currently take AS levels in English math physics Chemistry IT and economics and i'm planning on taking math physics chemistry and Economics as A level for sure but don't know whether I should keep IT or not. What do you guys suggest I should do?
If you like IT then keep it
If you feel it's gonna be an unnecessary burden then don't keep it
Oh okay but will 4 A levels be enough for university applications?
I dont know yet but im applying for engineering
more than enough actually, most require 3 some even less
Oh okay
although germany requires 4
Oh okay also would it be difficult to do engineering without further math I wanted to do it but my school doesn't offer it?
Oh okay
for ppl who finished AS how do yall study for that
my exams are just 1-2 months away
and i am desperate

In Mauritius it's 2A levels and 2As minimum
Or 3A levels and 1 As
Ohh okay I have 4 A levels and 1 AS in english language
We're forced to take AS english
Idk if this is the right place to ask, but will Cambridge reduce thresholds for the May/June 2021 series? I was looking at the thresholds for the October/November 2020 series and they were significantly lower than other series.
Yes
Most likely they will
Same for FM 2021
I think all 2021 series thresholds will be lower and then 2022 will be normal
but idts they will lower the thresholds by themselves as they did in oct/nov, cause feb march 2021 series could get high thresholds....
Why would FM 2021 have higher thresholds
If anything they would have lower
It makes no sense for them to be higher
Yeah I think it'll be either the same as Oct/nov or lower
also how does the carrying over of AS marks to A level work?
do they carry over the grade or the marks themselves?
Nope they aren't being carried over this time
If you didn't write the AS exams then they aren't being carried over
Then your grade gets carried over I think
So if you get a C in AS and an A* in A then your final will be a high B/low A
Wut? Grades get carried over?
That wouldn’t be fair
Yeah they do if you write AS exams and A level exams in separate series
Life isn’t fair ;-;
Feb March grades better b low AF for all exams pleaseeeeee
I pray
Only math can b a little high
AS subs were good, but it wouldn't be fair to just give thresholds low for oct/nov series
Yaa
When do I have to write my A level board exams if I want to apply to indian universities?
Preferably Feb-March
even my school does may june for AS and feb march for A levels
Ohh okay
could anyone tell me how psychology is in the higher grades.. i want to choose it but i would like to know how it is to be a psych student and the difficulty
you could get the psychology explorer role from #roles and head over to #as-psychology or #a2-psychology
oh ok thank you
something people believe for fun and stress relief
doesnt discount working hard at the exam, whatever happens next can't be changed (unless you get a recheck or a retake)
Find out about grade thresholds and grade threshold tables for Cambridge International AS & A Level.
But usually the average increase or decrease?
np
In one of the threshold tables I looked at for chemistry I think the November 2020 one of the combination of components mentioned 42, 52, and 85. What does the 85 indicate?
carry forward from AS series
Ohh okay
So if the AS thresholds are low it will affect the thresholds for A2 as well?
the total grade, not A2 itself
Yeah
I thought they just average out AS and A2 marks
But since AS grades are only until A, how are A* thresholds calculated for the final A level thresholds?
Probably the actual A2 grades themselves
Oh okay thanks for the info
no from options like 42, 52, 85
Oh okay
Ohh okay
so the ones which have 85 or something like that are carry over
So BT1 and BT2 are carry over
these 42, 52 standalone look like that "A2-only A level"
Oh okay
Oh okay
these are probably the people who got expected grade in their AS
Yeah im doing my AS exams in june
so their entire grade depended on A2 in oct 2020
otherwise it's mostly always the 8X/9X option codes which determine the final threshold for A* at A2
oh okay
I would think it's still a growing job so more opportunities might become available in the future
I have actually applied to biomedical engineering but I wanna persue medicine so I likely won't go down that path
I think there is definitely a scope for it, depending on the country u wanna work in
what grades in IGCSE will be considered good??
by good wdym
I mean good university’s want english, maths and sciences to be a level 7 and or above
Yeapp
Aight
To eliminate you yes, to select you probably not
damn thats cruel
damn Mushu
That was straight forward lol
Well I'm not sure if I want to do international relations or mbbs so help
Try interning in the field
Pick the one that suits you best
Shadow a doctor if you can
thanks <3
Instead of shadowing theres a day in life vids on yt and even recorded operations
Those day in the life's rarely show the "bad" parts of the doctors job so he/she might get the wrong impressions of things. They don't show all the parts, obviously, only the ones which at the end of the day brings in views so it might be baised
Imo it's kinda like watching dramatised tv shows based on like doctors, obviously not to that extent but you get the point
Just my opinion
i hate dramatized tv shows based on doctors
Yeah lol
Are there any trusted websites that show you universities that have a specific course with the ranking of the university?
A bunch of them tbh, like the times education and stuff like that
Thanks
Rankings are best an imitation tbh
I'll check it
They're written by journalists trying to understand a university
So I'd recommend you look at the department's work and the faculty's work
And the courses ofc
Well it will be useful for finding universities with the specific course
But are there any good (probably unbiased) websites that do have rankings@crimson willow
I don't think that's possible by definition tbh
Yeah don't trust them is all I'd say
Makes sense
However I have been told by a teacher who is trying to guide me to check the rankings
So I guess I'll check between websites?
I mean number 1 here number 10 there that's a big difference
If you get what I'm saying
@crimson willow Thanks for the help, I'll check them out
Peace
Anytime
Leave the rankings, any good websites that filter university based on courses?
what country are you looking at?
Canada
Not sure then
No problem
U can dm me if you want I have applied to Canada
edexcel just made an awesome choice that every student is gonna love
they switched the exams from may june to oct nov then a month later (today) they switched it back to may june
and now every student in jordan is shitting their pants
Lul
okay greetings all
have few doubts regarding 2 majors Bioengineering and biotchnology
so is it advisable to do bachelors in bioengineering and master in biotechnology and vice versa
hey everyone, what can i do with the subjects im taking? i live in south africa but im moving to scotland sometime next year once im done writing my igcses
im not entirely interested in physics, just too complicated and natural sciences seem over saturated imo
and with computer science, people have pestered me my whole life about things to do with computer no matter how menial it is so it just doesnt seem like something im interested in doing as a career anymore
sociology really interests me and im loving french though
Have you read Camus?
Hey guys I had a question. So I've gotten into a couple's of unis in Canada but I'm also looking into giving the NEET exam in india. Do y'all know if I can do my MBBS and MD in india and then go to Canada to work? Cause I know that if I do an MD in Canada I can come to India to work, not sure of the vice versa
bro, just go to Canada. you have got the opportunity. dont let it go
Yes seriously go to Canada
Guys , any studied in Belarus or applied for IT in any other countries ??? What type of documents did uni ask for?
Canada doesnt allow non Canadians to do med, does it?
I am a Canadian citizen
And I haven't heard of that hmm
Oh ok then
Ye idk if I'm even eligible to give the neet lol
I have 4 subjects on my 12th marksheet only and have no english
So idk
I think the English might be an issue
hey
i want to do computer science and i do igcse as level
i picked physics, chemistry, computer science and maths (only allowed 4 )
but in maths there was statistics and mechanical, i picked mechanics
is that a good choice ?
You'll do statistics next year anyway
Also do get roles from #798857637038915584 of the subjects you take to access the subject channels
@sweet oracle if you do mechanics in AS level youll be doing statistics in A2 math assuming you plan on doing A2 math
You can also do stats in AS and mechanics in A2
Both choices are equally good, if you have a good physics background, mechanics works out great
@shadow tree why is that, dont i have to continue mechanical in year 13 too ?
@fresh hornet oh okay, but if i pick mechanics in year 12, which is as level. Dont i have to continue that for year 13 too, which is a level
Cambridge used to have mechanics 1 and mechanics 2 (along with stats 1 and stats 2)
But now they've scrapped mechanics 2 from the syllabus
So for year 13 you don't have a choice
@shadow tree so in year 13 i have to to stats 2, wont that be harder as i have not done stats 1 ?
do you think that's a problem, or i should change to stats 1
oh so by the end of my year 13 i will do stats 1 and mechanics 1
do you think thats a good choice or should i do stats 1 and stats 2 ?
I know lots of people who did mech and stats and turned out fine, but I don't know as many people who did just stats so tbh idk
oh okay, that means i am good to go
@shadow tree thank you so much for your advice, without you i would have never known ! 🙂
No worries it's alright :)
Also turns out CS doesn't use much stats
And mech 1 is pretty easy so you'll be good
wow thats amazing to hear
thanks alot
and by the time im in year 13 ill take help from my friends who did stats 1 so that will be easier
Yep dw it'll be fine
i appreciate the help
What grades do US universities ask for? Do they only look at IGCSE, AS, and predicted A level results?
Yea mostly, check the unis site for more specific info
Yeah it's all there on the website
Oh okay so my transcript I can just include my IG and AS results and my predicteds? I've heard that they require 9th grade results thats why
Nope but im planning on applying in october
Hi. I'm going to be doing my O-Levels next year 2022 any advice on how to be prepared for them - subjects picked Bio Chem Physics Econ accounts and ICT.
And what I could become in the future? I like ICT physics and Chem as Top 3. Idm suggestions
you dont take math igcse?
Firstly, nice pfp lol.
Second, important thing for o levels is to remain calm and focused and to complete your work and make custom notes on lessons. The notes neednt be fancy, just good enough so that you save time in revision. Also personally id recommend making a new google account and having a new fresh youtube account and there you only watch subject related vids like fuseschool, amoeba sisters, etc these were the best revision i used and really pumped my marks up.
After knowing your syllabus and content then you start solving papers and then use that to see which subjects you still lack proper understanding of and then go back to revising and keep solving.
I feel like this should be a pinned msg but whatever lol
Thank you @potent violet and it really should be pinned 💯
Np
Honestly, it was a good choice imo. I find AS stats harder and a lot more stressful (prolly cuz im weak at some of AS stats topics, but yeah)
hi, I want to do video editing and am taking igcse o level. I finished my first sitting and am going to take the 2nd this may. picked phy, chem, add math and bm
idk if video editing gonna be successful
wdym video editing
Like a major?
After IGCSE ur going to uni? Which country are you in?
malaysia
Where you from?
India
Hmm
I was not aware you could go to uni right after IGCSE in Malaysia
I genuinely want someone to help me out
have to look at the qualification first
Who is from Pakistan
Someone will come online and help you
Tomorrow is my university entrance test
Someone from Pakistan
So need help with notes
@fleet carbon is from Pakistan maybe he can help you
Yes
Going into Undergrad he is still giving a levels
Not sure if he can help you tho
Worth a try
Ok
you can put it here ig
is it possible for me to finish CAIE AS Level and apply for a course??
Wdym?
Depends on the uni
But you'll still need A2
There r some unis who offer foundation years for AS students, im not pretty much aware but thats what a few of my classmates did
Yeapp that true
i am wondering whether it is worth it to go for a physics as major.. i planned to take further math, math, and physics during my a level..
I’d say some sort of engineering
@slow widget
Electric or mechanical engineering seems like a good choice
but i wanna go for a pure physics..
but my family not gonna support me financially for studying.. if im taking physics as major..
what shld i do..
they always want me to go for cs or engineering
Well what I would do is apply for both pure physics and engineering
is that possible?..
But you apply in year 13 anyways
Yeah you Can apply for more courses in different unis I think
like a part time course?
Wdym
Nah you can apply for different unis and different majors
I mean
You gotta decide urself
nah.. they won't just like any stubborn asian parents
ok.. i will try to commit in pure physics.. see if i could get a scholarship
If you can get a scholarship that'll be amazing
But ngl tbvh if you wanna pay off your loan you probably want to go into engg
Or do math and get a finance job
Physics doesn't exactly make quick bank
But then again I'm just a first year, so I don't know a whole lot about career since I don't have one yet
For anyone interested in forensic science and crime scene investigation, there is an interesting event coming up next week! :)
so i dont want exactly career advice but uni advice in general
is it a good idea to take a gap year? what are the pros and cons if you are aware of them?
has anybody here had a career in real estate? i want to find out what is involved and what subjects i should pick for my A levels
I haven't actually had a career in real estate but I assume you should probably take maths, economics, business studies and probably psychology
Actually for courses that aren't STEM related you can choose whatever A level you want to for example if I wanted to do business management (real estate would prolly come under that) I can take sociology biology and chemistry if I wanted, in the first year of University they'd teach u the basics anyways. But it all depends on the course ur applying to at uni not what u want as ur profession that's too far out. Make sure uk what u wanna study at uni cos there's obviously no course called real estate😂
anyone here did architecture?
can I withdraw a single subject for the AS level exams?
depends how many u have left
Y'all need to be a little more specific when you ask questions
Like I take 5 AS levels and I already registered but I want to drop one of them so is it possible to drop it for the final exam even after registering?
ask your school or CAIE representative such as british council for accurate information regarding this
Oh okay I will
Yes it is
I still feel like I don't know what i want to do in uni bruh i just feel like I can do any subject i want if I put my mind to it
I decided to take bio randomly and i am doing really well ( considering I had not taken it before lol). Anyways I have been wanting to do computer science but i noticed that a lot of peop are doing comp sci and I feel that i am risking my future employment by just entering it without too much passion
I am slowly dtarting to learn arduino by myself but idk i don't feel the " this is it ! That's what i want to die doing all my life " or any form of " this is what i want to study"
I know arduino does not encompass all of comp sci
I feel excited to learn about it but that's mainly because it is pretty simple now ( i just started ) and its somrthing new
Same
I get the same thoughts all the time and i only have a few months to finally settle
Hello
I'm planning to do computer science with mathematics for my undergraduate programme
SCE321A.pdf
I don't know what jobs I want yet but I love both maths and cs, that's why I'm choosing this programme
So can you tell me what jobs can be obtained with this programme
Coding jobs ig
Well if it includes statistics you could be a data scientist
See Mathematics And Computer Science major career paths, job openings, and advice on how to get a job.
this site is pretty good
There are many many many
My sis did maths + cs
Shes working at Microsoft now
Software developer
Cs there's ample job opportunity and they pay $$$
There's a program at University of Waterloo in Canada
It's comp sci in the faculty of mathematics
Maybe look into that
Any career advice for someone who doesn't or has no interest in any subject-
Do u like kids atleast?
Not even slightly .-.
What do you like doing during your free time?
Um okay
Being good or bad at subjects is not a problem with me, theyre all the same level
Ah okay
Yea ik ;-;
then maybe start searching for careers online you might find something which interests you
Hm Alright then, thank you :D
SHould I take a test or smthn?
Yeah maybe if you want to
Alright then thanks :D
any other hobbies?
what gets you out of bed everyday
I just know its smthn I should do
stupid iphone alarm
do you like computers?
Well? I don't like coding if we are being specific
As I said, I have no idea, thats why I am asking ;-;
Wel, but I will say, maybe chemistry is more tolerable than others
not coding
But I was never really into it
No I dont think so
aight you said chemistry, are you interested in how medical drugs work, are made, etc
I won't mind it
Okay fine lets eliminate some options then what are subjects which you absolutely hate?
pharmacy
Watch me acciedentally hit a cat
veterinarian
Well what side of the enviroment?
Huh actually maybe
work at like IUCN

fasinating channel
Why lol
cuz i have never seen one like it
Oh lol
yep
i have no idea what i want to do with my life
especially now that ive chosen mostly business related subjects, i cant go into the science field
so i was thinking of doing sports journalism but idk if English would be enough for it as i dont do history
or does it not need history idkkkk
im not very smart either so i hate accounting with a passion cuz its hard to remember things long term
helpeth
Yea same here... I tailored my A levels subjects with the intention of doing a law undergrad. Ive alrdy known that it's a very comeptitive field and very specific (to each country) and also that it's expensive to do it here in the uk..my parents are kinda hinting at economics and that sort of stuff but i dont think i'll enjoy it cuz in my mind, being a lawyer means sometimes getting the chance to be close to clients and actually have an impact on them..where as economics is more abstract ... idk im lost too mate
We'll be lost together
XD
I just wanna be rich smh
I just wanna make ends meet
T h i s
Yea having a lot of money gives u more options cant deny that
T h i s
I wanna sleep peacefully knowing I won't be stressing about something the next day
hi
if i choose bio, chem & physics
only 3 subjects for my as-A levels
is it fine or are there any disadvantages
what do you want do to in uni? @zenith cove
idk right now
im completing my AS-levels
gonna give exams this oct-nov
edexcel
Since you seem to be science inclined, I suggest you take Math
It opens up anloy if options
Though it's solely your decision
yes
ikr
my friend also suggested me to take maths
ye maths
maths you would need for almost everything
highly suggest you take maths as well
and then you should be set for any science field
but what if i dont take maths
are there any disadvantages] for that
most uni's in canada and the usa wont let you apply
they need math, its a pre-req
for almost all courses
oh
what about in other countries
not sure, you would have to research a bit
no no where
ye for radiologist you need maths
imo, regardless of which country
its medical imaging right
the whole thing is based around phy and maths
you would need to research a bit, don't take my word for it, but I am 99% sure
you need maths for everything nowadays
Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill
thx
getting an A* in maths is very doable imo, with practise
for 3 subjects is alot of burden already
honestly as you solve more and more questions you start to see a pattern
universities are perfectly fine with 3 subjects and you should try choosing subjects according to the university you want to get into
this is true but you needs maths imo
maths is a core subject
like you might not need english
they will fill the gap once you start studying at the university
you would have a head start if you take maths in a levels
im basically doing private as levels
concentrate on those three and do your best in them i'd say
the way i think of it, choosing more subjects just keeps your career options open
thanks bro
imo i hink if i take maths also im never gonna pass with the rest 3 subjects also
its doable mate, even though it depends on person to person, its very doable
CAUSE THATS gonna be a lot of burden
just hope you arent disadvantaged when you apply to uni
due to the lack in maths
cause most wont even let you apply maths is a definite pre-req
^
im scared bro
of maths?
greater chance of uni denying if you dont take maths
are you gonna go into AS this year?
A level maths is not as hard as u think
its doable
oh so you are gonna give AS exams in Oct/Nov?
yes
and you want advice on whether to take maths during this session?
but still its complicated
yes ,..
so you havent started studying for AS maths yet?
have you begun to study the rest of them?
the rest of the subjects I mean
the other 3
any suggestions for a person who loves physics and math but hates chemistry ?
aight
astrophysics maybe
i wanted to go into engineering
should i just do chemistry ?
upto you then now. We have said maths is a pre-req for most uni's. research a bit more and then choose. My advice is to take maths, despite the extra work. could potentially save you from future stress
you would have to research and see if chem is a pre-req for the program and uni you want to apply to
if its not then no need to take chem
oh okay , thanksss
i checked the gulf website for BSc.MIS it says physics or maths
aight well if you are sure that's where you wanna go then
its fine if you dont take maths
i would still just to be on the safe side
upto you tho
but i got bad grades in O levels
but if I score good in AS=LEvels
is it gonna cover it up
??????
i got really bad
When does one need to finish a personal statement?
I heard by the end of the summer between year 11/12
Which Engineering Branches have little chemistry?
Ye
Depends from uni to uni
You need to study chem regardless of which type of engineering you go into at least for the first 2 years of your uni
Oh okay but which engineering branch has the least chem?
Then there's tons of specialisations like mechatronics electrical aeronotical
Like ik its there in all engineering branches
Computer engineering
Oh okay
Civil engineering
Oh okay
Planning on doing either computer electrical or mechatronics so I just wanted to know if theres a lot of chem involved
There would be very little chem
Oh okay
So only mechanical and chemical have quite a bit of chem I suppose?
I mean yeah chemical engineering yes
Not sure about mechanical but yeah I would guess mechanical has a fair bit
I was gonna do bioengineering but I didn't
Oh
Also for UK universities is further math needed for engineering? My school doesnt offer it
Idk about UK
You could try the comp sci field
Nopw
Some places do a common first year for all engineering
Well not fully common but like 90% of the modules would be the same
And you'll have to do thermodynamics, which inevitably is kiiiiind of chemistry
Oh okay
@shadow tree are you doing undergrad in the UK?
Yep
nice
may I ask where?
Uni of Manchester
nice
i hope this question is relevant to this channel. but anyway, how much do colleges care about internal grades when you have official cambridge reports (IGCSEs and AS levels) to submit to them as well?
like, would they focus more on your grades from CIE or your school?
Grades from CIE
They only mainly use internal for giving conditional offers
what does this mean?
ah, i see. thank you! (also, i love your pfp)
Np :)
Like some unis give you conditional offers
If your actual cie exams are after like when the uni has to give you an offer
So they give you a conditional offer
Based on your predicted grades that you would submit from internal exams
And then you would have to match those predicted grades in your final cie exams
oh, i see. thank you!
can you help me and tell me if I can get into Harvard with AAB in AS and AAA in A2 with good writing skills without extra tests like SATs??
You need the SAT..
But according to website it's optional right and what if I have really good ECs will it change anything??
Pretty sure it's optional only for fall 2021
Not sure tho
I mean it depends on what the EC's are
And your grades in A2 would be less
You need all A stars definitely
It's harvard
So for my ECs j have volunteered for 5- SGAC project groups(one of biggest international space organizations), have won 4 national level competition, written 4 research paper for International astronomical Congress, wrote research paper for Planetary Defense Congress, found more than 50 preliminary asteroids and there are some more,
Will these be enough or should I develop more strong ECs? If No can you please suggest what kind of ECs k should do more to make then more strong..
Thesenare professional one there are some of charity as well
Oh damn umm
EC seems fine imo but then again I haven't applied to Harvard so
I would say just focus on improving your grades
Your EC's seem ok to me
Just your grades you would need to improve
And yeah maybe do more charity work idk
Yes I have to but I am getting really confused in solving past papers can you suggest me if possible how to solve this..
What do you mean
I was talking about why I am getting bad grades cause I am facing problems in solving past paper so how can I solve this past paper problem to improve my grade?
Know the content thoroughly
That's the only way you can solve past papers
Bruh ur ECs are insane if you manage to get A*s and As you have a good chance of getting in
May I know how you managed to write research papers?
For me I wrote papers on astronomy field.I started with a local based organization and then started networking from there and then joined national and then international organization and then research about ongoing conferences and then start a research group within a organization to write and present the research paper. I would suggest search for you real passion and join organizations accordingly and start your research. But it is a time consuming process.
Ah okay
With those EC's harvard is a real possibility
Work on your grades and you should be fine
But then comes the hard part: financial aid

Harvard is need blind right
Is it?
I want to apply to german universities for med but am a little less than average in german
Is there a way to still apply and maybe get a year of preparatory course?
Yes I know right but they give scholarships according to ECs I guess cause I had a friend like my ECs he also got accepted and got full scholarship and also part time job for living. So let's see what hpaoens
