#SKYLAB or ASTP projects (assuming we get Soyuz of course)

just an idea 😄

Skylab would be awesome, and it would probably be easier to get three people rather then 6

Yeah. Petri just added Skylab to the roadmap, I guess he forgot to previously or something idk

lilac otter

where can I see the roadmap?

apparently bot didn't like that

Skylab is an awesome idea

It makes for a fantastic continuation of the series - and doing EVA’s to repair the stricken Space station would be amazing (as would seeing the interior)

Yes, we need to implement EVA coming from the CSM for Apollo 9 , 15, 16 and 17 also .. lol

maybe we can look at some solar flares (For All Mankind reference)

wow guys look FAMK reference!!1!!

have you watched season 2 of For All Mankind?

Yes

lilac otter

there is a scene in Season 2 where a person looks at a solar flare, your comment about the ATM made me think of it

umbral goblet

I know

I sent in a FOIA for the ATM manual vol 1, still waiting for a response back from JSC

The thought of doing the Skylab SAW repair in VR sends chills down my spine but I still wanna try it.

Skylab would be great. Include the launch to place it into orbit...with an option that the solar panels and heat shield stay intact. ASTP as a docking adapter to dock to an ISS, or other space stations?

Could we stretch reality a bit and make it an ISS-compatible docking adapter? Just for fun. I don't know that Apollo could stay parked at the ISS for 6 months, either. And then...add the Saturn I-B for these LEO missions. Stretching reality a bit more...could a Saturn V with a full three stages but no Apollo, and some sort of docking adapter under a Skylab-like nose fairing, place a nearly fully fueled S-IVB into rendezvous with a Skylab and boost the Skylab to Lunar orbit? Why? Just for the fun of it. I guess there could be dozens of possibilities for "Beyond Apollo" missions using the Apollo-Saturn vehicles. Again, just for the fun of it.

Anyway, my idea would be farther down the road than adding Skylab...if it got to the roadmap at all.

  1. Modern APAS on Apollo - I would be surprised if that wouldn't be theoretically doable. APAS-75 on Apollo used the DM and I don't think there's a substantial difference in diameter.
  2. Long term Apollo - Longest Apollo mission was 3 months IIRC, I'm not sure how much further it could be pushed
  3. Saturn IB - Quite doable, IIRC something on the roadmap
  4. Reboosting Skylab with an S-IVB - realistically I'm not sure you'd have the dV, and the docking-mechanism on Skylab had force-limitations that meant the lab was never reboosted with the SPS, let alone a J-2
  5. Skylab what-ifs - I don't think it'd be that hard to implement a variant with all solar-panels, though I'm not sure how much it'd affect the gameplay experience outside of visuals
  6. Apollo ISS - I think that's one of those weird alt-history holes where "what is known fits together in such a way that it could be implemented"
#

I don't think Petri has plans for alt-history stuff

#

but in terms of alt-history, I think Apollo with APAS-95 is close enough to what has flown that one can make reasonable assumptions. It's not like "Apollo to Venus" etc.

Would be cool to see shuttle-skylab program wayyy later on down the line in reentry
