I am going to rephrase the mid-ops event update here:
These players are not spending enough because they are getting everything they need from events.

So we are going take away or cut event rewards for key resources so much that they cant progress without buying even at the low and mid ops range.

Ohoh and to make sure they wont get spicy we will throw them a teeny tiny bone about reducing the research timers (which btw would go down to resonable levels by using the plethora of efficiency researches)

And lets give them Vi'ger style hostiles to frustrate them and put weird backside restrictions on how to kill them so they have to build more ships at lower ops range if they want to participate in these new hostile stuff
