Technically, STFC (the game) is not "to blame" in itself - the game is the product, not the one responsible. The responsibility lies with Scopely as a developer and operator company. But better breaking down:
What IS the direct responsibility of Scopely/STFC:
∙ Accumulated technical debt — years of growth without properly modernising the server infrastructure
∙ The poorly managed Python update, which was the initial trigger for recent problems
∙ Poor scaling mechanisms — their own scaling systems worsened the situation instead of improving it
∙ Lack of robust tests before each update, which explains the repeated failures in each patch
What is partially external:
∙ The fall of AWS (Amazon Web Services) was an external factor that they did not control, although it did expose how fragile their infrastructure was below
The underlying problem:
The game has been active for years and has grown a lot, but the technical architecture did not grow at the same pace. When you try to patch on top of an unstable base, each update is more likely to break something new. It is the classic problem of prioritising new content over technical health.
In summary: Unity 6 is just one piece of the puzzle. The real problem is that Scopely accumulated too much technical debt for too long, and now they are paying it (and the players too)

Scopely does not need to take the game offline for a short period of time to improve it.
All it needs:
- cancel new content and concentrate on bugfixing instead
- rollback server and client to a previous more stable revision
- then work on the stable version and improve from there
- bugtesting the improved branch internally before (!) putting it on the live servers
- replace the existing old version with a newer improved codebase
But for everything above they at first need to acknowledge that the actual branch is lost beyond any hope and they failed already and there is no way to make this one work again.

There are multiple red flags that this is actually already happening:

- they have hit multiple limits and already surpassed the point of no return
- they still want to continue pushing for content updates
- they have not the manpower or knowledge to really work on the real origins for the performance issues, at this point only "working" on the symptoms here (workarounds)
Total silence from that point on what we can expect: no ETA for any of the fixes.
And the last "roadmap" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmGNF778RR4 was a pure marketing campaing selling "new shiny stuff" - also without ETA (not even gameplay was shown in the whole video).
Everytime someone asked here on Discord about the important stuff there was one of the following reactions:
- total radio silence (ignored the requests)
- evasive replies (aka "asking...") then most of the time not getting back with answers
- tried to silence any critics (deleting, muting)
- damage control only (promises and answer vaguely)
And on top of this every action after the very bad performance was self-damaging to them:
- Discontinuing multiple things that were actually good and working (CotA event, password login)
- pushing really hard for negative changes for the playerbase (making the grind harder/more time consuming and lowering the rewards even to the point that events now are impossible to complete)
- cutting any remaining connections to the playerbase (for example ticket system now mostly useless, firing the whole PAC team and implying they were "not trustworthy")

i assume lag is bad on every server and the reason are not shortcomings of server hardware or infrastructure but bad coding and bloated network code.
this is the most probable cause for the bad performance for everyone
