A lot of players were able to play 5v5 in the first run, and their MMR was pushed up high. But not everyone was able to play then so there are a lot of unranked players who need sorting.

With 3v3, a larger portion of the pop will be able to play. But that also means there are some mismatches in this run.

Expectations are way too high. Fair matchmaking can only happen after players are sorted, and that'll take more than just 2-3 runs. All of the whales in bronze need to win enough times to move way out, make space for g5s to take up beneath them, and the g4s below that.

There are countless companies out there that get such things right- right out of the box/right away. Thing is just, that Scopely ain't one of them- and never will be. The sorting process requires matches to be played. Two teams that are next to each other get a faster match if both are playing than if they waited in queue for a different opponent. The result is the goal: move one team further away from the bronzes.

there are whales in g4 and g5 as well, most of the time due to ascension blocking. if you meet one you get a bad time and a f2p low g5 will loose against a g4 whale

Arenas Take 2 are here.... Team size has shrunk but with it has gone the integrity of matchmaking. With more relaxed parameters, matchmaking is seeing WIDER brackets, not smaller.... why? PLUS arena rank actually weighs in.

They are recalled automatically and you lose all cargo

So make sure your miners are docked first.

Actually, you may get the cargo. I think I heard both ways last week.

I can see a few things I don’t like. One. The matching is horrible. Though you know this. 2. If a player leaves the game completely. They still are in the Arena. They can be signed off for 20 minutes yet they are still the leader of the match or a player. 3. Either change date to of this event on a mining day because it’s horrible when token space and start an arena match and your ships are recalled from mining.

@heady moon I think the hostile loot limit is impacting the arena. I went a whole match unable to gain any loot no matter how many hostiles I hit. Couldn't start a single armada. I reset the game and even cleared localization and it didn't change anything. I know I'd hit a lot of hostiles today and it would have been right around that number.

I get why you have a loot limit, but the arena loot really really needs to be exempted from that.

This game isn't a real pvp game anymore. Adding a ranked structure and arena system was a massive waste of resources. They game isn't balanced for pvp. It's intentionally balanced against fairness.

For matchmaking purposes the ops of the starters don’t matter outside of the band of the team being formed.

The opponents are selected based on matching the average ops of the team formed.

This, so much this. I actually don't understand any of the complaining around the 2nd run of AT. The lag wasn't really an issue, the task options (and rewards) were better for f2p and the rewards in the store were fantastic. Was it perfect, absolutely not, but it was improved a lot compared to the first run, and could be improved for a 3rd and subsequent runs.

Like many people, I spent my store currency on prime particles in the expectation of finishing them off next time, but if we're not getting AT again any time soon, that's effectively wasted currency, because half a prime doesn't help anyone, any more than half an FT, artifact or officer. Not to mention the whole Emerald Chain feature, which is also great.

Let me third this <@&509690795536941056> - our alliance had some fun with ATs. Yeah, the usual complainers complained as they do about everything in AC (I mean, they complain about new arc starting on Tuesday and patch maintenance disturbing the Mining Monday event...), but there were tasks they could do and did to help progress the alliance score.
We all enjoyed the rewards and my alliance mates are kinda counting and expecting on the AT to run after the arc ends, to be able to work on the primes or FTs or whatever reward they chose to start. We were looking forward more Emerald Chain and boosting our smaller guys in power.

Please note that people who actually liked ATs will not come to this Discord to write that the event was ok or even great, people tend to avoid this discord as it is usually very negative and full of complaints. Please make polls in game if you want to know if people actually like or hate some feature.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that AT is in my opinion the best new feature we've had in this game all year, and that STFC would be worse off by not having it on a regular basis, even if it was only every 3 months

Just as a comparative measure, we had 56/83 members of my alliance alone compete in AT - that's over 65% participation. Most of the other major alliances on the server were in the 30-50% range. According to STFC.pro, after 2 runs of Arena, there are only 100 people on the entire server who've participated and gotten a rating higher than 0. That's less than 5% of the server population. I think that says everything about how valued Arena is vs AT, yet Arena is running every week, while AT has been shelved?

The Arena went much smoother this time around. Changes were good and I find it an interesting consept.

I still had one ship freeze but quick reboot solved it. I did about 10 of them, so one bug isn't too bad.

The second time around was much better and actually got lower OPS hyped about contributing.
Could it still use some polish? Sure. But the changes made it tap more into the potential it has to enhance the alliance gameplay experience.

3v3 was more balanced and less hectic than 5v5 from the matches I had. More skill involved than some rando whale clobbering the other team constantly. We had a 59 control a 61, and me as a 55 control a 56 in one. On the flip side, when they had better officers, primes, or FTs, I got clobbered, but the win/loss ratio was more even.

We found the exact opposite, one big on the other team can stop the entire other team from participating more easily.

Well, we did have instances of 2 back to back matches with the same teams so one side got clobbered twice in a row.

All but one were one big clobbering the other side, even in lower lever matchups where I as a 49 was the big 😆

We had several that were quite close up until the end. Something like 850 to 1000. Depends on the match. Those close ones were pure strategy switching. I saw people running speed NESAs or Voyagers to avoid being hit and getting into armadas.

As for the AT event, it should run again. It's the best event that has appeared recently. I'd still adjust the 10k tasks to have even less P2W ones, but overall, better than the first go-around.

The warp entrances is the whole left or right side. They'd have to be quite speedy and resourceful to always get you unless you fly in always on the middle or something of the sorts

On reflection. When we were able to get 5 people online the first run of arena was much more fun. Melee was larger and you could actually specialize in attack defense, pve pvp. Have 3 bigs wreck shop and then have 2 smalls with speed crews doing pve and armadas taking points. With 3 my group had a much easier time finding 3 to play but once we were in pvp discrepancies are glaringly obvious as there is no place to hide in the melee. Most fights became more about wrecking shop first out and forcing your opponent into a situation with all ships wrecked or repairing then doing pve and armadas in the downtime while your opponent was stuck in downtime. Idk what the answer is but the second run was much less fun.
