The arena mechanic in Eve Echoes was really good - and it sounds VERY similar. That being said, they didnt have lag issues like STFC does. If the mechanic is based on the same one as waves, then the lag is gonna be unbearable

I’m sure for some players the Arena deal will be the 16th time they swear they are quitting.

In theory, this is a step in the right direction as far as getting people to try out PvP. It’s an opt in with none of the opportunity costs (save for time) doing PvP normally involves. I know players that have zero clue about who are PvP officers. I don’t expect it to make them fanatics, but maybe it’ll get them to engage with the strategy of that side.

Even then, there’s portions that also score for hostiles and the system specific armadas… at least enters into the idea of group strategy.

I don't really see why this one is getting so much hate, tbh. The PVP players will finally have a weekly, active PVP event, and the non-PVP players aren't required to join it. It's the kind of PVP I've felt this game needed for ages. Again, that's theoretically and dependant on execution, though.

It is also dependant on rewards. One reason why people dont engage in PvP related events is that the rewards are so poor that they dont justify the mats expense

It’s not like the general PvP mechanic is gonna disappear. It’s an opt in with no rss costs. No shield drop. No speed repair costs. People entering are with the intent to PvP for rewards. It’s a team aspect. Only thing that is gonna cause friction is trash talk. But otherwise… seems like people would understand what they are gonna get into if they opt in.

Simple pvp matchmaking should be able to track ops levels. If you queue in with an ops 70 player, you should expect one on the other team.

🤷‍♂️ slb brackets are what they are to limit how much stuff they hand out. Not an issue in an arena match. g6 hitting g4 players in the world is the reason why arenas make so much sense. G6 players queing in can fight other g6 players. g4 players queing in together can fight other g4 players.

Not hard at all to weigh higher ops more than lower in any averaging. If the actual arena works properly and the tasks are effective at encouraging fighting, they can figure out how to balance matchmaking.

i don't think there's been many servers where anyone's daft enough to want to do it that way. normally a server discord will have a violations channel, and it's usually either 'admirals/commodores/nominated-diplomat' only, or publicly viewable with restricted commentary permissions. it's better that way because when it's public, you don't have to deal with the drama that ensues when there is not a public record of who is and isn't a serial offender and everyone's disputing their offences and demanding people prove it, without access to the proof.

For me, the big reason is not the idea of this new feature, but that they keep piling stuff on when there are so many problems that need to be fixed, both server side and client side.

The actual mechanics and balancing of this new feature will probably need tweaking at launch, and maybe that takes a month or two to get right. The thing nobody has asked or figured out yet is... how are they monetizing this feature? If we get a few arena entries free to play each week or whatever, that seems fine. If its all pay to enter that obviously sucks. But I do have faith the thing will (eventually) be reasonably balanced and fun to actually do.

They definitely should do a 3-month rerun arc next, or the arc after next (though at the pace we're breaking, arc-after-next might be too late...^^; ), and spend those 3 months optimizing/rewriting the code.

As a programmer (not from Scopely), who has only been playing for about a year, my theory is they started with a Basebuilder-type game for phones, and it was more popular than they anticipated, so they kept adding feature after feature on top of that foundation that the engine/base code was never built to handle. I've been expecting it to reach the tipping point sooner than later for a while now, but it's accelerated way faster than I anticipated in the last couple months.

So if they haven't, I think Scopely really needs to look at their profit margins and decide if it's worth spending the money on the overhaul I mentioned ASAP, or consider EoS soon.

But this and that are different. Even if they did what I said and decided on an overhaul, say, on that day we flat-out couldn't play from the insane lag a few weeks ago, features were still being worked on. This and probably the next couple months' new features were probably actively being worked on even back then. So even if they're taking the issues seriously, new features are gonna keep coming for a bit longer.

i mean, not necessarily literally at the same time, but most of the point of giving the cc's the information is for it to benefit the people who won't read the news releases, or for them to trial crews and such so they can give advice when it releases, the gap could certainly be narrowed a bit, there's no harm in other players being allowed to have advance time to think things out, it's not like we're gonna be given, or would be asking for, advance access to the content like cc's can get, just an earlier heads up of what it's gonna be than " a couple hours to a day before launch depending on when the news item gets put up on the website that arc ". it'd be beneficial to you guys, too. a lot of the complaining is because of how short the gap is, people are still in initial-response mode rather than having had time to think or consider, when things go live. bit more notice is liable to mean clearer heads at go-live time. ( and probably being able to get the 'ugh not this series whining out the way earlier so you're not dealing with as much of that at the same time as the go-live issues. )

like, loads of games give their 'chosen' cc's early notification and access. but the industry norm is for the main-playerbase to get told about the content at least a week before its launch date, with the 'chosen' cc's having learned earlier than that. only telling the main playerbase either the day before, or on the day of launch is... abnormal and honestly a bit off.

like, this time round, the notification coming today, that gives us 4 days notice, it's longer than normal and i do consider that an improvement in this regard. maybe just add an extra few days to make it a week before, make it the full new-arc notification rather than just a 'single new feature' notification. if that was the new norm, that'd be grand.

There's a problem with StFC, you can't play StFC unless you update the game ( from app store)
I play other game's that you can still play " without Updating " I've even played Past " 3 " big Arc updates...

Some player's can't play after the update and find themselves out in the Cold,
Offer The chance to download the previous version so that they can get online..

The issue with that is changes can make the game unstable if they're not updated, how many times do we have people complaining about something broken or missing because they didn't update their game? It's better that it forces you to update
