rather, scopely's chosen model is to get whales invested via sunk cost fallacy and to disregard things like player retention, meaning that their business model is medium-term pump and dump. long-term sustainability on the other hand actually requires caring about player retention, which means more accessible pricing, minimising p2w, etc. i'm not saying their model doesn't work for their purposes, i'm just saying that it is not the best model for a game that aims for long term sustainability, which would be more profitable in the long-term. they just aren't aiming for the long term.

As a “whale” this is how I plan to handle this arc.

But they have never offered a lower price version. You can spend less but get less. You can't spend less and be in a bracket with similar folks.
I can't compete with those that spend, so I choose not to spend at all. I would be open to competing with others spending $20 ish per month. Maybe that would be fun enough to push me to $50. That price point is not offered.
Of course I don't expect the same rewards as those spending a lot more, but I want skill and knowledge to at least count for some of my leaderboard place. Not purely $$$

I've found a good way to grind several days worth of fatu-krey loot relatively quickly but it is yet another arc without noteworthy grind reductions and yet even more pulls without anything to speed pulling up which is a bit of a bummer. Some of the new mirror research could be useful but with a seemingly long ship unlock time it's hard to get excited about that.

also, given the age of some of the content, the requirements for that content should be drastically scaled back as well as having access to the efficiencies and enough currency for them to not constantly have to be choosing only one or two efficiencies

So has been adding another way to get another dock with ALL of the specialty ships added. I could go on and on, but so much has yet to be addressed, so it gives the perception Scopley only makes changes that make money, rather than enhance the player experience. Heck, my server has reported whales for terms of service violations and nothing happens. While that’s a seperate issue, it just goes to show that nothing happens unless it fills pocket books, and the player experience and requests don’t matter as much as we are told.

I feel that. A lot of people have voiced the fact that the amount of grinding is insane and they're frustrated that they're putting in so much work and will likely not get it finished. Couple that with those 1.27 million servers already being done and they're understandably disgruntled.

My day job is strategy -- monitoring trends, designing, testing viability, etc.

It is very very common for strategies developed in a "silo" (or vacuum) to appear good up until you back test them properly... and then the cracks start to show from all the other things that weren't considered.

To get beyond that, you need an entire ecosystem designed across the lifecycle... with clearly defined handoffs, viability assessments, back tests, and KPIs.

In which case I severely doubt they've ever played STFC on a normal account which is hardly surprising as they also "tested" the xindi loop with optimised accounts. I would LOVE to give event/arc designers control over an average G4 account and have them do a livestream where they demonstrate the loops and explain why they feel players should view it as engaging content. I really can't think what feedback is driving them to think "Oh you know what players want? Even more grinds with yet more layers of refining".

Okay I should have added "and actually include it in a meaningful and noticeable fashion". I'm hardly expecting to zoom to ops 70 but the design choices this year have been dubious to put it mildly. Just give us freebooters/bajor 2.0 and I'd be a lot happier with said arc instead of waves/MU/.... which require far too much RL time

not to mention some content is a joke with say a G5 rare but is a nightmare with a G5 UC due to very poor scaling

I think that this community is just very divided in what it likes/wants, as well. Then mix in the fact you have some people (like me) who have been here 6 years with frustrations from years ago that still persist. New players (or recent players) won't have that the same level of angst towards "new" that i will.

question for vets: Why doesn't this game feature the ferengi more? Seems to be a great lore reason to have them be in and have a markeplace for all wares, especially out of date, never to be used again, currencies.

I imagine there's near unanimity that there needs to be some grind reductions though and I doubt many would object to refines/collecting being made faster as the amount of stuff we need to collect/refine/.... bloats every arc. I would love refine/collect resets just like we have officer presets

Indeed though there have been some good examples in the past like the freebooters which reduced the daily grinds or the bajor loop which is very fast and offers a lot of resources, efficiencies,...... The xindi armadas could have been another good option if the payouts weren't so utterly abysmal. Some other stuff like the xindi credit conversions could also be good if it didn't require ships to be maxed to be worthwhile and that it hampers your progression in said loop.
