My advice to new players is to start planning BEFORE you hit ops 15. Pick 1 faction and focus on it until you get to 10 million rep which locks you at that level. Repeat the process for the other 2 factions. Once you have all 3 factions locked at the 10 million point level, repeat the process to the 1 billion point level. I went Klingon first initially for Hull Breach, but I'm focusing on Federation for my first 1 billion point lock because Hull Breach works best on Interceptors and the Federation ops 42 ship (Kelvin) is an Interceptor.

You don’t have to use any of those ships if you have done the Translink disruptor research. I’d take my biggest ships if I were you. For crews, I go full loot crews. Enty E on one. 5-Borg queen Khan and the Jordi crews. 6 of 11 is worthless against Borg solos.

And no I don't mean a lame IMS event I mean something like the sleeper dragon from EverQuest....when it was awakened if it wasn't destroyed in a period of time it rampaged entire servers killing everything.....something like that....

I think it was only ever defeated once, years after release on a server that agreed not to wake it until ready. I think it dropped like 5cp. :p (it wasn't intended to be defeated, and the devs did give all those involved some loot... They also had to despawn it during their first attempt due to a bug).

that seems to happen if you send a ship to deep space, restart, and hit locate before it arrives in the system. for some reason restarting seems to make the game think the ship has arrived in the system and is just traveling

One of the suggestions I had, before wave defenses were introduced, was based on my best memories of EQ. I asked myself, what is the number one thing keeping most players playing STFC? Their bond with their alliance.
So create an Alliance Raid mechanic. Pay alliance currency to open an exclusive system for a time. In there, have mechanics that require your alliance to work together...
Have a big bad that is "protected" by madas (formation madas) that your bigs will have to take out to weaken it. Have fleets of weaker baddies that try to take out those doing the madas (which lower level can coordinate to defeat and prevent damage for the bigger players).
Heck, throw in your alliance starbase. Have players "mine' near it to charge it to full power, then use it to hit the big baddie with a beam.
Just an example of something that would be fun.

Except so many players, even in the 50+ range, use the 46s to finish events with better RSS efficiency for repeat repairs (and not using up all their tokens)

at low ops i used the meridian for its refit refinery and mostly overnight horizon mined, but once you get it past the t3 hurdle it's quite good.
if your territory is even remotely safe that's also a good way to just fill the cargo at low tiers which is multiple days of refining initially
