#How to fix the storage error
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The salad “storage” error and the distribution not installing are definitely a problem, are those issues new or has it always been that way with salad?
Also, I’m assuming you have virtual machine platform enabled in optional features?
Restarting Salad fixed it for me
would recommend dming greenkalevalkerie (Ericka) she is the head of support or contacting #official-support
Did the distro install? Or did it give an error as well?
Um… not necessarily… so far from what I’ve seen if it has the “calculating storage” error it didn’t actually get installed.
To check if it is installed you will need to go to cmd and type: WSL -l -v
.
Also make sure hypervisor launch type is set to auto in bcdedit…
To check type: bcdedit in command prompt (may need elevated), and it should be the last or close to the last entry.
is on auto
That’s good.
Does WSL -l -v in command prompt show any distributions installed?
The distribution I’m looking for should be along the lines of “salad-enterprise-linux”.
@slim trout
i am installing right now
used C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --import salad-enterprise-linux "[INSERT FILEPATH]" "C:\Program Files\Salad\wsl\salad-enterprise-linux.tar.gz" --version 2
Ok, good that would have been the next thing I was going to have you try…
It should be this… just saw the “insert filepath” in the one you sent me.
C: \WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --import salad-enterprise-linux "C:\ProgramData\Salad\wsl"
"C:\Program Files\Salad\wsl\salad-enterprise-linux.tar.gz" --version 2
Was it successful?
Yes, there likely will be an issue if you just ran this command as is… with the “insert filepath” line.
Hopefully, if you did, it doesn’t cause issues importing once corrected.
it takes me to this directory
i resarted but still
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --import salad-enterprise-linux "C:\ProgramData\Salad\wsl" "C:\Program Files\Salad\wsl\salad-enterprise-linux.tar.gz" --version 2 this one works
i deleted the ext4.vhdx file and run the command again and it's installing
C:\ProgramData\Salad\wsl
chop power 3/4
Sounds good!
@shy gale
The steps that @slim trout took deleting the ext4.vhdx file may work for you if you haven’t had success fixing yours as both showed the same error when importing the salad distribution.
Yes, thank you for that knowledge.
no problem if it helps, i love to contribute stuff
did not think it would make a diffrence after reinstalling windows but it did
weird
least its fixed
thank you
was pretty close to reinstall a fresh one
Awesome, glad that worked for both of you.
and i am pretty sure when i installed it the first time, i was not using --version 2
i came across v2 way later and never worked, now i know why
Salad is supposed to be able to update WSL and install(import) it’s distribution automatically itself… personally I haven’t had to install(import) it manually, though I usually have to update WSL manually then salad installs it’s distribution without any problems.
okay now it's getting ridicoulus, the c drive is in the clear but it wants me to set up the eviroment^^
oh okay i just left it be and it fixed itself
now i get this 2024-01-15 00:36:06.176 +01:00 [WRN] (C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --terminate salad-enterprise-linux) exited unexpectedly "There is no distribution with the supplied name.

2024-01-15 00:36:06.177 +01:00 [WRN] SaladProcess Windows-Subsystem für Linux exited unexpectedly with exit code -1 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --terminate salad-enterprise-linux)
2024-01-15 00:36:08.258 +01:00 [INF] SaladProcess Windows-Subsystem für Linux exited with exit code 0
Is this just in the beginning of the salad log file?
it'S in ther not in the beginning it started t-rex miner for a while, then i assume i got a container and it could not process it, since then choping stopped entirely
funnny C:\ProgramData\Salad\wsl data i s gone
it's getting better and better
I’m aware of a few things that may be worth trying… though it seems you know a few things about WSL.
just tell me what u think
Well, I think to give it all the chances to work… I’m thinking basically uninstall everything WSL related (including salad)…
You will likely need to restart to turn off WSL…
i try one reinstall wsl one last time the i goo full clean
Then run the DISM restore health command…
Then the sfc scannow… and see if either or both find errors (and hopefully fix them).
When I say uninstall WSL it includes the WSL update and anything WSL related in programs and features (or settings - apps)
we will see, i mean i was using 7 upgraded then upgraded to 10 then swaped hardwar but kept win 10 then upgraded to win 11
Oh…
maybe it'S time for a clean install
That should for sure do it… assuming clean install (no programs or settings) brought from your current windows installation during setup.
Yeah, that should do it.
