#VIRTUALIZATION NOT ENABLING

Something I would check is to open command prompt (may need elevated permissions) and run: bcdedit
And look for the entry “hypervisor launch type” and see what it is set to (should be near the bottom of the list).
If it’s not already set to auto in a elevated command prompt you’ll need to run: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
I believe it is an integral part of Hyper-v (and actually may be hyper-v)… WSL uses Hyper-v as it’s virtual machine platform.
Now, I’m not saying that setting the hypervisor launch type to auto will fix your issue (though it might)… just with the issue presented it’s one of the first things I check (after making sure virtualization is turned on in the bios).
Also, unfortunately some programs (virtual machine software especially) and some games (mainly ones with anti-cheats) either mess with the virtualization settings in windows or they don’t work properly unless they are changed… which at the moment I can’t tell if that might be an issue here.
Yeah as you said my laptop suddenly died one day and i had to get it fixed and when it came back first it told me that TPM 2.0 was not even present on my device but before it was because i did have win11 and tpm 2.0 is required for that
Also when i tried to download valorant it said you can play and so much stuff and i had to downgrade to win 10 to plavy it and did some changes with virtualisation now i dont know if i enable this hypervisorlaunchtype will it mess up again?
try opening CMD (windows key, "CMD") in administrator and run this line of code;
wsl -l -v
then take a screenshot of the result and send it over ^^
salads WSL distro isn't installed, seems like thats the reason that prompt never goes away
ok so what to do
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsl.exe --import salad-enterprise-linux "C:\ProgramData\Salad\wsl" "C:\Program Files\Salad\wsl\salad-enterprise-linux.tar.gz" --version 2
run this command
okayy
this wont affect games with anti cheat right..
it shouldn't, no
i can play valorant just fine for example
wait
if its not
also run this command first after you make run it in administrator
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
done
try restarting your PC and running this again
then thats perfect ^^ salad should be working and you should be able to get past that virtualization prompt
YES
thank you!!!
ALSO @tiny tree one more thing, my salad showed "your system is degraded" should i ignore it?? also any tips you would give to boost my earnings (like process lasso or msi afterburner?)
always welcome ❤️
any specific message is it showing along with that?
i just hit retry but it took me to this "View Guide" thing
can you show me your performance tab?
ah, thats normal then
its showing that because of your integrated GPU, you can just ignore it
okay
i got the same problem help? 😄
sry, I'm German, but I did the same thing as my colleague, which you also wrote.
Make sure this is set… will need to restart to apply it.
@radiant bay
Also, make sure virtualization is enabled in the bios, task manager does show if it is in the performance tab - cpu.
WSL its enabled
Yes, WSL is but it requires virtualization to be enabled in the bios…
And hypervisor launch type to be set to Auto in windows… hypervisor launch type in bcdedit being a part of hyper-v which WSL 2 needs.
If those 2 are set correctly and it still has that problem… you’ll need to update WSL.
Check if task manager shows virtualization is enabled in its performance tab - cpu, it is circled in my screen shot.
Yes, that is good…. But there are other things as well (not in optional features) that need to be set correctly for WSL 2 to work.
hmm
"disabled"
Yeah, that is a problem.
and how do we fix it? 😄
You would have to go to your bios, and there should be a setting in it that is something along the lines of “AMD-v” and or “SVM”.
hm... I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong in the bios if I don't know exactly where it is...
This article may help.
https://support.salad.com/article/270-how-to-enable-virtualization-support-on-your-machine
To configure Container Environments on your PC and chop Salad’s highest paying workloads, you'll need to enable virtualization support in the BIOS of your CPU.
Part of the challenge is not all bioses are the same.
Now I may be able to guide you if you need, if I know what motherboard brand and model you have.
Yes, I saw the video too, but in the end I didn't understand it because it looks different in my bios
Look at the steps in that article…
tuf gaming x570-plus
Ok, let me look it up.
yes 😄
Ok, I’m assuming you know how to get into your bios.
Once in it you should be able to press f9 and just search for SVM and enable it (the option should be called “SVM mode” in your bios)…
.
If you want to find the feature without using search or if for some reason searching for it doesn’t work this should work:
Go to advanced mode (hit f7 if you aren’t already there) and then go to the advanced tab, then cpu configuration, and then enable SVM mode.
@radiant bay
okay i will do it but i think later
but im scared
really
I don't know anything about the bios
Ok, it’s not all that scary🤡 😉…
Again you should be able to just go to your bios settings and press f9 and search for SVM, SVM mode should be the only result and you just enable that… then save and exit (f10) and yes on the confirmation dialog that comes up.
This is the manual for your bios if you want to know more about its settings and features: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_X570-P/E15829_PRIME_PRO_TUF_GAMING_X570_Series_BIOS_EM_WEB.pdf?model=TUF GAMING X570-PLUS
Awesome…
can someone help me ?
