Part of me feels like the "Exit" to the game for the players is dying.

And the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. If crazy mita understands that a player dying sends them out of the world, then she would try to make death seem scary to the player.

There's not a lot to support it besides the ending where she says "I'm done with you" and then you see the player in the real world? Heavy emphasis on the real world part though, because the theory greatly hinges on you actually needing to have made it back to the real world at the end

And yes, there are times when you get a bad end and she "Kills" the player, but we don't actually know that she killed them. Given it's a game she'd have full range over the parameters for how to go about keeping the plater from a true death in game

Yeah I think that crazy mita has the capacity to lock the player out of dying from her "attacks", like she sends them back to checkpoints that are placed around the game. But we've never actually seen a player die in the game, not like a true death, when the player died to crazy mita they were brought back

And yet the ONE time you die to yourself by pulling out the cartridge? You get a game over. No check points. No more game. It's over.

I think the reasoning for that is that when you "Killed" yourself by yanking out your cartridge, you killed you corrupted yourself in the game, forcing you back to the real world

So at the point where you pull the cartridge out, I think your conscience is being routed through the cartridge into the digital body you have (this is part of the entire bringing you I to the world / teleportation thing) and by pulling it out you've severed that connection effectively killing yourself
