I’m currently a senior in high school and I was going to take AP calculus AB (I’m applying to colleges as either an environmental or bio engineer) but I dropped the class earlier so it’s not reported on my transcript. The calc teacher was terrible, he did not know how to teach and he allows students to take home exams??? All my friends tell me they aren’t rly learning anything and hes slow at teaching. Therefore I decided that I would take a dual enrollment class for calc, my only option was this night class, but the reviews on this professor are not the best. THERES NO REVIEWS FOR HIS CALC CLASS 😭the highest grade I’ve seen is a B+ for stats but his precalc classes pass with a C- I’m not the best at math but I manage to maintain all A’s and got an A for AP precalc. I’m scared that I’m going to pass his class with a C or not even pass ngl and I know these credits will be transferred to my college GPA. I do not want to start off college with a C or D ☠️

IM SO SCARED ITS GOING TO AFFECT MY ADMISSION, I rly want to go to a competitive UC 😢 The class hasn’t started and ik I should js try and see before the deadline approaches and I get a W (Feb 22nd) I’m taking AP computer science principles and it counts as a math credit so luckily I have my 4 years of math credit but it’s not rly considered a rigorous math credit so I’m rly scared. I also reported it on my uc application so if I do drop it im going to have to fix my application… The thing is even tho I dropped AP calc and might take this dual class I still plan on challenging the AP calc exam.

P.S I think this class has mandatory attendance? Or like if u don’t show up to his class ur COOKED but this class ends the same day of my hs graduation ☠️ which is also at night so im going to have to skip the class

Sorry for the blurb…but i rly need advice and my counselor is gone for most of the time 🤦‍♀️

I’m sorry that you are in a stressful situation! School and the future always gives me the worst anxiety, so I feel for you

I did 8 dual enrollment classes when I was in high school and a majority of my professors were bad a teaching or just made stuff sound way more complicated than it was. It would scare me but the I would do it for myself or find a different method and realize it was not that bad. In order to do well you have to basically teach yourself. That’s how I thankfully got a 4.0. If your campus has resources like a tutoring lab, that may be helpful if you need things to be taught to you in order to learn best. You can always look up videos of similar problems too if your textbook sucks. But everyone learns better in different ways.
It honestly was really stressful for me but it gave me a major head start. It was worth it. It’s also great experience for when you’re a full time college student.
I had a few classes with mandatory attendance too. Some classes I would listen and take notes, but others I would study or get work done while they were lecturing. Whatever works best for your brain. I think you definitely can do well if you can find learning methods that work for you and you don’t let the worry get to you. Take it day by day. And don’t overwork yourself. It’s super scary when the class starts but then you will fall into motion. I believe in you! And if you end up having to drop the class it’s not the end of the world. But I’m sure you will do great :))

(I’m not sure if this was helpful at all 😭 but if you have any specific questions or worries I can try to help)

THANKK U for the advice 😭 im js in the middle bc some of my friends said to try my best and some are saying to withdraw from the class before it shows on my record since i have 4 math credits (necessary to apply to a uc) but im js afraid that once i do leave the class and update my application, it might affect my decisions (coming out next month 😔) Also i paid for my exam for calc so I either pass the exam or take a dual class, hence my friends saying there’s no point in taking the class bc i can get college credit for calc exam

I tried to search up situation but went through a rabbit hole of doom posting, and considering that I’m apply as an engineer major, calc is a core class I must take…(and I’m extremely burnt out 💀 )

Yes! Do whatever you think is best. Big decisions like that are hard especially when you have people telling why one or the other is great or terrible. I’m sure you will do great either way!

ok that’s good!! reminder that we go to school to learn and purely learn, not get anxious over trying to follow standards someone else set out for you hearjj a grade on a paper is nothing, it’s how much you prepared for that paper and how you let it BENEFIT you rather than harm that matters oh
