Hey I was wondering how to actually add effects to things on Adobe After Effects, I have to have a storyboard edited for my Storyboarding class TT

this really depends on what effects you’re opting for

but if you're looking on how to add effects to things on adobe, here's how

  1. import + setup
open after effects → make a new composition (composition > new composition).
drag in your footage, image, or text into the timeline.

  2. go to the effects & presets panel (right side of the screen).
if you don’t see it: window > effects & presets.
this is basically your library. you can scroll or just type something in the search bar (like “glow,” “blur,” “color correction”).

  3. drag the effect from the panel onto your layer in the timeline or straight onto the preview window.
boom, effect applied. you’ll see its settings pop up in the effect controls panel (usually top-left).

  4. in the effect controls panel, you can mess with sliders, numbers, or colors.
every little thing here is keyframe-able (the stopwatch icon). if you want it to animate over time, click that stopwatch, move the timeline cursor, change the setting, and after effects will auto-animate it between points.

  5. you can add multiple effects to the same layer. the order matters, the one on top in the effect controls applies first.
example: blur first → glow after = different look than glow first → blur after.
