it’s rly bad for the environment
plastic straws are already banned in some states I think
why plastics should be banned
A detrimental effect of plastic: Environmental degradation (already very broad by itself, with a lot of points to talk about)
- According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), about 380 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated annually, and only approximately 9% is recycled. The majority of the waste ends up in land fills, where under constant exposure to uv rays from the sun degrade and release toxic products that destroy the surrounding environment
- The remaining bulk of plastic waste is commonly found in water bodies, with about 50 trillion pieces of plastic found in oceans. These plastics disintegrate into smaller micro-plastic overtime, which ends up being eaten by aquatic animals, causing severe detrimental effects on them. Eventually, the micro-plastic is transferred up the food chain and might even affect humans.
Then why should we ban it in schools
- Banning plastic can be a measure to greatly reduce the usage of non-biodegradable plastic. Instead more environmentally friendly biodegradable materials can be used to substitute plastic, such as bamboo and paper.
Rebuttal?
- However a total ban on plastic is unlikely to be very effective as plastic is an essential material in the making of virtually everything, from tables, to spectacles, to bottles, etc.
- It would be unrealistic to ban plastic from all schools. A more effective approach would hence be to increase awareness and education about plastic and its detrimental effects. By implementing it in schools, the youths can pick up good habits from young, which they are likely to carry on in their lives
there're a lot of other aspects u can explore as to the negative impacts of using plastic but I js happened to rmb the ones I mentioned
