Boxer revolution in short: After the Spanish American war, the US gained control of the Philippines which opened up trading in china. Other countries wanted a foothold in china as well for trade reasons leading to slight colonization. There were Chinses citizens that did not like the foreigners on their soil and sue uprising rebellions occurred, one of which was the Boxers (they were largely made up of martial artist hence the names). They led an attack on the European establishments and killed the foreigners as well as any Chinses who had converted to Christianity. America, who also had a foothold there then took action and retaliated how they normaly do by killing the rebellion. (there is also some things about Open door trading regulations.)
Sepoy Rebellion in short: So England during that time had control over a good majority of India. As such their army consisted of many Hindus and Muslims, this caused a problem when the new cartages for the ammunition was coated in Pig and Cow fat. To open the cartages the solders would have to bite the fat which meant they were going against their religious beliefs. Because of this, some solders refused to do drills and open the cartages. This angered the British officers. Eventually a solider shot at his superior and killed him. This man was killed but it caused an uprising and eventually most of the army was rebelling. There were some fights and some city captures as well as mutiny kings. The British did end the mutiny and slaughtered the rest of the rebellion. This is actually where a lot of the middle class comes from in India. The cities that were taken in rebellion and then ransacked as well as the onslaught eventually trickled down creating a large middle class current day.
