duolingo does work but i recommend also searching up free resources of the language (ppl reccomend learning kanji first) and theres podcast on spotify called "Learn Japanese with Noriko" that well, can help u learn
also learning some basic sentences can help as well since it helped me with french

I do use Doulingo , I’m on day 45 right now but I still struggle to memorize most stuff
then watch yt tutos
there are lot of like yt tutos which are like 1 hours
which have gud explanations

@/Issy?#3716 I learned reading Japanese during quarantine by writing out the letters and studying combinations. I’m not sure what kind of learner you are (environmental, visual, etc)
it depends on how you approach it
For me I study basic hiragana and since I’m more environmental learner I sometimes try to watch anime with japanese subtitles
tutorials help as well :)
