#creepers trample crops instead of exploding

if creepers were proposed today, they would not be added to the game. they are too punishing and too unpredictable, like a wither who can spawn naturally or a phantom who doesn't burn up in daylight, they just don't fit the strength-weakness curve of other mobs. but you can't just delete them, their design is iconic, literally the face of the game.

solution? repurpose them. instead of blowing you up, creepers should seek out partially-grown crops and try to jump on them. look at it, it's a weed with feet! of course it would infest your garden!

note that it only attacks partially grown crops, this means its still possible to use wheat fields for aesthetics.

this probably wouldnt be too hard if you could somehow copy the ravengers ai. (ravangers try to destroy villagers crops during raids)

personally though, i get the argument for not adding the creeper, buts it much to iconic. when you think of minecraft, you think of creepers.

that's my point @sturdy moss , I think it's too iconic to remove but it should really do something more fun. currently it's even less fun to fight creepers than it is to fight phantoms, and phantoms are so disliked that they got their own gamerule.

it's fairly common to fix this with mods that disable creeper explosions, but I think it would be neat to give them something else instead

what I usually do is fill in most of the hole with cobble and then only do the top layer properly

I remember on one of my worlds there was this giant area that had a one block thick surface and like a 3 block open area underneath from all the explosions
