Education Update

Basically make a mod that port some interesting features from Education Edition (fine-tuned to meet the Java purposes) into Java;

• Agents: see #1097440033457315910;
• Chemistry stuff;
• Allow Book & Quills to export its text to .pdfs (feature from Back to School Update);
• Technical blocks like Border/Allow/Deny blocks;
• Heat blocks (see above);
• Underwater TNT (see above);

A little bit useless, but maybe introduce a sighly different camera+portfolio mechanic to make alternativee screenshots (like with different zoom, and even panoramas)

The chalkboard feature mentioned in OP, seems to be a great addition to "mad scientist"-theme maps

The Border blocks mentioned in OP

These allow and deny technical blocks. I imagined them having a way (maybe BE if not much slow) to track an "onwer" player to allow only him to interact on the areas, maybe working like those area claim plugins for bukkit

This gamerule, but read OPs/Cheat-enabled players in place of "teachers"

This. If chemistry stuff wasnt desirable to be implemented, make those craft with regular dyes
