We’re opening the gates for our next Horizon Hunters Gathering Closed Playtest between May 22-25. Try newly added Hunters, beat Machine Incursion on Merciless difficulty, and help shape what comes next.

Still not sure why they’re using this license for it.
Unity has released a new AI tool called Unity AI to help game developers create games much faster.
︀︀
︀︀The tool works directly inside the Unity game engine as a smart assistant that understands your entire project and supports many parts of development.
︀︀
︀︀Developers can use it to generate game assets such as sprites, textures, animations, and sounds. It can also write code, fix errors, automate boring tasks, and turn simple ideas into playable game elements very quickly.
︀︀
︀︀Unity says this tool makes creating games easier and lowers the barrier for new developers while being especially useful for prototyping new ideas and speeding up production.
otherwise it would have no redeeming merits over Monster Hunter.
What game series is this?
The fucking metal animals open world game?
I half thought it was Meta Horizons for a moment
Horizon Zero Dawn IP, but instead of that protagonist they made fat in the 2nd game for some reason, you play as other fat people instead, at least from the promotion material I remember seeing.
"My entire unity game project was deleted by Unity AI, years of dev work lost."
Axe/staff thing that hits hard and summons turrets…. I want it. I need it
"We have no option but to cancel the game"
If I wanted to play a game where I hit giant monsters with an oversized sword I’d just play Monster Hunter
What a twist. If that’s how you felt about it, why ask about the game?
don't forget the Rival series, God Eater.
The genre hasn’t been explored all that much. Monster Hunter proper is very hard yo get into, yet the crowd wasn’t very nice to Dauntless…
or those Demon themed games, I always forget the name of, something with T, tokiden or something.
dauntless went into something, not monster hunter like.
It’s Horizon but it looks and appears to play completely differently.
it had major monetization things very early into the beta playtests already, which was just silly.
Hmm..
Zero Dawn or Dauntless?
dauntless
Was asking Catt
Dauntless
Gotcha
see, dauntless
Guess they didn’t pull it off

Wait, Code Vein and God Eater share a continuity?
then there's that other game, that literally copied one boss monster move from Monster Hunter World straight up, the one with the wood constructions and stuff, that had huge issues running smooth on launch.
I ignored it on steam so I can't really find it right now.
Steam Controller ran out faster than we anticipated, and we hate that not everyone who wanted one was able to get it. We’re working on getting more in stock and will have an update on expected timeline soon.
Learned a new trick to instantly spot an AI generated email: double hyphen. It's a programmer syntax thing. Not something a non-robot would type...

I got my warcraft 3 cd-case gonna try that forum method you once posted to install the game again.
Humans use those what
Thanks for letting me know who's the bots. 😉
You think the moon landing was fake so it makes sense you consistently underestimate human ingenuity
When controllers cost as much as a keyboard and mouse might as well buy a keyboard and mouse even for a console
Keyboard and mouse is objectively better for most games
I don’t get spending 90 potentially 100+ plus dollars on a controller
How about $250?

Do Palworld demo decks next.
sadly this is one of the few things that makes me wish for biometrics on electronics.
to stop the damn scalpers
what would biometrics do
lock it to a person
Make the product more expensive to manufacture??
This is the worst idea you could ever have
nah
im not in the whitehouse
Lol wut
How would locking the controller do anything but inconvenience people who don't live alone in a basement
Like scalpers could just ...not register the device before selling
well the other option would be to regulate
They aren't gonna use it anyway
That sounds like a better idea
Literally why do we have a government if not to regulate blatantly abusive behavior like scalping
to take credit for work they are not doing
Ok I asked in the actual intended purpose not the cynical nihilistic defeatist purpose
To be fair some countries have made scalping illegal
Where every bad thing is already done and cannot be fixed and everything is pointless and cruel
Demo decks are probably worth a fortune already.
Government is a formalization of the group social structure's impulse to punish and discourage behavior that actively harms the group
Therefore it is in the founding ideals of government to execute that impulse wherever such behavior may exist
You can’t make scalping illegal at least in America because scalping is just buying a bunch of something and selling it at a higher price point which is what a ton of stores here do
When such behavior is not discouraged sufficiently by social pressure, it is the responsibility of government to intervene
And any government that does not do so is essentially a failure
provided you have a company to do said trading through instead of private
Incidentally most modern governments are catastrophic failures
these companies are the ''middle hands'' which are just as obnoxious as middle managament XD
Not the governments job to intervene with scalping
it’s the job of the business selling whatever they are selling
recently here we passed a law to limit the layers of contracting in the construction industry.
they felt it was kinda needed when they discovered it was not uncommon that a job on a construction site could be contracted onwards through 56 companies before there actually was a worker on site to do the job
Thats bureaucracy
ergo the builder was paying for 55 pricehikes that they should not have had to pay for
and in the end the job was done by someone who was underpaid
each step a bit of money trickled into the hands of someone who does nothing
that’s how it is
Someone is alyways going to be making money off of your work without doing anything
And anyway that wasent scalping thats just corruption and companies making builders jump through hoops
now if you win the contract you can only subcontract it once in case you are unable to meet the demand due to unforeseen circumstances
well it trickles into scalping because for everyone who buys a thing to sell it before it reaches the end consumer
well
it is what i just described
That’s not scalping
that’s economics
Your country had bad economics
If I have something and sell it to you i made a profit
If you want to sell it to someone else you have to sell it for more then you bought it to make your money back and a profit
Always be hustlin
and that is the step that they aim to rip out
1 Week left before these are gone!

i will paint it Lime green and put pink polka dots on it

Obama will be like "Oh hell yeah dawg sign me back up"
As someone that has lived inside black walls, the heat is overwhelming
Yeah haha
My van is black & it gets really hot
And then these little red plant buds fall from the many trees in my yard & stick to the paint
did you paint the van with tar
If you don’t have a fresh coat of wax those will stick really bad.
Buddy!
They do!!!
They suck!!!
And they leave little colored spots
I hope this place floods
And explodes
That can only happen to places that exist.

Don’t pop tarts expire?
Consistent, readable text. I doubt it’s ai, but either way… that’s an alarming amount of pop tarts in one location
I’d hope so, but this one is really good. Hard to tell from my phone anyway.

There’s the thing next to the pillar out in the open in the background that kind of stops before the floor, but idk
to be fair poke scalpers make this believable even if its AI
considering they take cardboard display stands from stores
cute
Total Scalper Death
They straight up murdered a girl in Chile for her cards
-# ||Scalpers don’t buy & hold||
its most definitely AI. I work in a grocery store and let me tell you aligning products in a shelf to essentially create a perfectly flat wall, is VERY time consuming and tedious. nobody in their right mind would willingly go through so much effort, especially with shelves so tall, and when the space between product and upper shelf level is so tight you can barely squeeze your hand through to re-align things if you accidentally pushed it on the side or whatever. anyways point is this image is 100% ai
not to mention that the size of the packaging stretches and morphes from shelf ot shelf lol
One of the lights splits into two somehow
I tried looking at the text but I think they intentionally blurred it or really hammered the machine to produce legible text
4 additional gigawatthours of electricity, for the meme.
Speaking of electricity!!!
According to a report, clean energy growth accounted for over 100% of all global energy demand growth for 2025
So every new TWhr of energy consumed in 2025 was met by another TWhr of clean energy, and actually pushed fossil fuel energy into a negative/flat growth for 2025
increase in Solar and Wind alone accounted for 98% of increases in demand
I've never witnessed a 'red flag' about something pop-tart related that had nothing to do with consuming pop-tarts
until today
by 2040/2050, we will just have so much clean energy that we can really just let the techbros waste as much as they want on stupid AI images without any considerable environmental impact
First subscription fries, now no soda
I don't like that....
The people at the McDonald's near me don't know how to not fill a cup with ice....
Subscription fries is fake
Seriously, ask for a drink with no ice to be told, "I don't know how."
Yeah, they going to overfill it with ice, so you get 2 gulps of soda and a lot of ice to chew on I guess
The drink machine does it automatically. They put the drink on a holder and it rails over to the ice thing and fills with ice, then it rails to the drink dispenser and the employee has to press the button....
I don't understand what is hard about, "place cup under drink dispenser, press button."
Gonna blow folks minds when they find out that stores sell soda in bottles with no ice
At least keep the self serve machine available for ice and water… that probably won’t happen tho
Even the kiosks let you order with no ice 🗿
McDonald's is the only place I've ever had a manager called on me
Twice
Other things
Their soda conveyor can definitely do no ice
The ice they just apologize and stare at me blankly.
And drool, probably
They saw the one video of the guy filling a cup with every single beverage
That really doesn’t make a difference. The water costs more than the mix.
I was making a joke kyran
But people stealing with their own containers are a problem
Employees have called a manager on me for:
1- I said no mustard on my burger, they put mustard, employee called manager tk have them explain I could wipe it off. So, I told the manager I was allergic.
2- I asked for combo meals and employee ranf every item up separately, over charging me. I asked her to fix my ticket and she told me I was stupid, it adds up the same and got the manager on me. Manager stared at her terrified and asked, "please tell me you haven't been doing that for all 3 days you have been here...?"
smh
lmao
"please tell me you have not being doing that for all 3 days"
"I have done nothing but ring up combo items separately for 3 days"
"WHERE"
Fired, instantly. How someone could screw up that easily
That was what she said and she went to explain to him, the manager, it is the same price and I, customer, did not know what I was talking about.
Manager fixed it and she had a talking to.
That’s a big yikes
Never saw her again, but I don't go often
And this was an older woman, about 40s, not some kid in school.
Somebody that thick is definitely a liability.
Thick af boiii
This goes back to the "we need a better society" conversation
maybe if being alive wasn't so outrageously expensive that stealing soda from mcdonald's was a worthwhile use of time, people wouldn't do it
Rapidly transitioning to an ever increasingly low trust society is pretty alarming, yes.
Like toiletries behind glass
People don't accept their financial situation, they adapt
and they adapt by stealing because what else are they gonna do, conjure the soda with their mind
they certainly won't conjure their 2 gorillion dollar rent with their mind, so the options are pretty limited
Nobody needs soda
yeah but they want soda
soda is an anti need if anything
living only on your needs is a miserable existence that a fair number of people would quite rightfully prefer death
They need to be happy and soda makes them happy
The fact that the wealthy live without any consequences also erodes the underlying belief that consequences exist, thus making stealing literally seem like free stuff as opposed to an objectively terrible idea
and at a certain point society doesn't even recognize soda as worth protecting, but the business wants their bottom line so they adapt to the situation by removing access to soda

rich people adapting their financials to the tax-free countries.
First of all, with all the renovations currently happening with no resistance, unlikely
Second of all, we’ve already made it clear presidents are exempt from the law: even if it were illegal, who’s going to stop him? He’s the president
Omg me too
Many presidents have had renovations done on the white house.
I’m not sure about the paint, though.

Changing consumer habits.
Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers.
Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business back on track.
As part of this shift, you’ll see us begin to retire features that don’t align with where we’re headed. We will begin winding down Copilot on mobile and will stop development of Copilot on console.

I realized how spoiled kids are these days, when people online complained about the Switch 2 version of FF7 not having bread and tea on a table. Bruh... Game Boy Advance ports of games would be literal completely different games from the console versions of the same name. 😭
is this about Rebirth?
The ports or remasters are a different story, but yeah… some assets missing or not fully loading in the switch 2 version of those games isn’t that surprising
“But the switch 2 is supposed to be stronger than a PS5!”
Was that claim actually made?
Idk I thought I heard it being talked about by Nintendo fans before switch 2 released, no idea if it’s true or not, I don’t got one (and with the kidney I’d have to sell I don’t want one either)
The thing is, they were low poly even on PS5 to begin with. You can literally count the sides: ~20 sides on the bread plate, barely 10 sides on the Tea Saucer, instead of them being round.
I’m too familiar with Final Fantasy and low poly shenanigans, look no further than the whole grape thing that ultimately got replaced
but really tho. Who’s looking at grape vines or bread on a table when there’s other things to focus on
Exactly, why complain about something that people were only going to look at for 3 seconds?
they need to sell the expansion kit like for the n64 that adds more ram
So the game can show more on the table
people complaining about that is a little crazy, FF7 Rebirth performance on Switch 2 is pretty impressive considering that architecture is closer to a PS4-era machine
It’s no Steam Deck or any other Steam/mobile pc equivalent, but the Switch 2 got some oomph to it. But yeah, folks need to chillax on needing every little pixel to be graphically appealing
actually the Switch 2 in most aspects is a little more powerful than the Steam Deck overall
I could be wrong but I thought it actually ran Cyberpunk better than the Steam Deck
(Based on a video I saw, not personal experience)
thing with steam deck is that since it’s a PC, you have way more flexibility with how to run your game since you can adjust things like resolution, frame rate, visual effects, etc
so you very well could run something like cyberpunk better on a steam deck than a switch 2, but maybe at overall lower visual quality for a better framerate
To be honest, that speaks more on the work done to port it than on the console itself
Nintendo’s consistently been pretty behind in terms of hardware power since 2006
that’s what I’m sayin
at the least their consoles are still typically the cheapest in the market, even if the Switch 2 itself seems overly priced
Everyone raised prices after they did
It's almost like there was a common external trigger for that
well their games and accessories are another story
everyone tried to raise their prices, but it failed
AAA video games will cost $100 in 2028
And the market will completely crash...probably the year after
Because these dunderheads NEVER learn anything
Xbox tried to put Outer Worlds 2 at $80 and the audience said “pffff”, so they magically dropped it back down to $70
One single AAA video game will cost $100 in 2026
🤷
It's unfair to say that AAA games will cost $100 in 2026 because several AAAs have released in the $50-$70 range
back in the duh you could find entire GameCubes at rollback prices for less
Is it? If the price standard is set that year, wouldn't that make it?
Ehhhh
I mean there’s only one game that can get away with selling for $100
Yeah that won't stop people from trying
i mean tears of the kingdom was supposed to set the standard at $70 but like you still see a lot of AAA for less than that
No it won’t, but it’ll be interesting to see the flops come out
thing is $10-40 games are the new gold mine
anyway
they have to be good still, but those prices work for people
I'm gonna go before I say something actually stupid
alright, take it easy
Bye Prima
I mean games are not complete until about 5 years after "release".
Why buy it on release?
Most consumers just want their xbox to remain next or around their pc, not move faster.
The industry is scared to price games at 100 dollars companies want to triple aaa companies want nothing more than to charge more for their games but they don’t want to be the first to charge 100 dollars but once rockstar charges 100 dollars for gta 6 100 dollar triple aaa games are going to become a thing
The industry is waiting for someone to do it first like with 70 dollar games
That's absurd we have had games with hundreds of millions invested into them fail at 70 them charging 100 will lead to widespread collapse in the gaming market.
70 dollar games fail not because of the price tag but because they suck
if gta 6 is a solid game and costs 100 dollars people won’t mind paying it
Point is people are willing to pay more for a game if the game isint doo doo (I mean gamers spend 2 grand on pcs)
Most AAA games are slop very few AAA games that come out each year are good you are lucky if it's more than 5 games. Even then I hesitate to say that people would pay 100 for those games. So yea most games will fail worse than now since the expected revenue will go the second they start charging 100 for their games.
if the game is doo doo it will be a flop but if aaa companies can pump out games like gta 6 and read dead 2 level quality players will be willing to spend more
the game industry today is not the same as it was until the release of the ps3 and xbox, I feel with that console generation Corporate game dev took over, most everything was standardised, Unreal Engine became a main stay for many, Proprietary software was mandatory.
No longer did we get games that were basically hacked together, and pushed to the limits, it was played safe, or fixed with online day 1 patches because devs could cheap out and do that now.
Just popping in to say there isn't a fathomable world where I'd spend $100 on a game. That thing better clean my house and do my taxes if I'm spending that much on it.
I'm really hesitant on $30 and doubt even $50 could get me anymore.
Really concerned to see a genuine conversation about $100 games...
Is it just consoles? I've left behind consoles so maybe that's why this is new to me. Especially after TotK was $70 and, if I'm being honest, not as good as BotW.
(TotK just added complication to something that was vast, varied, and comprehensible. Building things is cool but not worth the loss of the versatile simplicity BotW has. Underground is the best addition.)
doesn't mean you need to post weird shit
most modern console I own is the Wii.
the other consoles just wanted you to go online for all features, and I just wanted to play games.
and kingdom hearts wasn't releasing on ps3, so there was no incentive to buy a new console for that series either.

Considering they were on death's door, they absolutely are
I have heard a few stories, like from my friend, who went to a hairstylist, and had a terrible experience, left a bad review on it afterwards and then got their account reported and now they can't post anymore.
it's a farce, system protects bad people who deliver bad work, and you can't even leave a review, because it's bad mouthing, what a joke.
They're going to colorize his body, it's what he wanted.

$900 for two pieces of colored cardboard
Remind me to stop by target on my way home...
I have a great idea to handle these scalpers, but Target will never do it
Do they really just pick up the displays and walk out carrying cardboard in front of everyone?
Who is going to stop me?
Clearly not self-respect
does it involve violence
Not necessarily, just more security and actual consequences if youre caught scalping
What if it is just target employees selling the extra cardboard that they didn't need?
skelpers ruin pokemon for everyone
But $900 is still $900
Wouldn’t it be nice to just be able to walk into a target and buy some crappy pop tarts with Pikachu printed on the box?
1st: lock all commonly scalped items behind plexiglass
2nd: Enforce strict buy limits on commonly scalped items
3rd: ID and permanently ban anyone caught scalping
4th: encourage employees to open carry because these freaks will do literally anything to milk profit out of people’s beloved hobbies
They’ll just scalp the plexiglass
5th: Regularly check underneath your vehicles for tracking devices
IT DOES INVOLVE VIOLENCE
6th: make a wall of shame for any scalpers you’ve caught and banned, per step 3
Also you do realize that from the store's perspective "Buying a bunch of cards because you like them" and "buying a bunch of cards to scalp" are the same exact thing
Now offering 5 square feet of plexiglass with a Pokeball sticker in the corner! $200, price is firm 😇
“I know what I’ve got”
Nobody wants to go to a store that tolerates scalpers
for someone who hates pokemon so much you sure care a lot of scalping of pokemon cards
Such props are endorsed, sometimes even given by the parent IP company, youd esentially just have to report this to nintendo or someone and they would get in trouble
The first storefront that stands up to scalpers publicly will see the biggest business boom yet
I don't think that's very true
They’ve scalped more than Pokemon
These scalpers just came for Steam controllers as well
It’s not uncommon for stores to take measures to discourage inventory from getting swept up like that.
They’d prefer if people who came to pick up the cards also be comfortable enough to shop around while they’re there.
The most I’ve seen them do is buy limits
Yeah, which definitely helps at least.
But still, when everything is gone instantly it devalues the promotion immeasurably
Assuming they can reliably enforce the rule against large violent mobs
That’s more than just a scalper situation
But yeah, the long and short of it is the stores don’t enjoy it either
But they’re not gonna spend a fortune on security for one thing
I wonder how long before they realize how profitable it would be to stand up and say no to scalpers in public
In the long term
Is it more profitable to have a few people buy your entire stock day 1 or across weeks
Standing on principles is always more respectable
The way I see it, they benefit from scalpers as much as the creator of what ever is being scalped
If they wanted to be respectable they would lower food prices down BugRatStare
Probably not very unless Nintendo substantially increases supply
If there’s “enough” of a product then the scalpers can’t make any money, but that’s not going to happen with a TCG
Oh, also step 7: call 911 for any large crowds outside your store before opening
Yes, that’s the horde
I'm not sure the police are allowed to do anything about that unless the crowd is getting violent
Usually there are police whenever stores have lines.
To make sure it doesn't become violent, I figure. Not to prevent scalping
They won’t arrest anybody without an incident ofc but they’ll generally be advised that there’s a gathering
Yeah
These scalpers DO get violent, a lot
Usually people are more worried about Black Friday
These situations warrant police in full riot gear
Just walk out with the cardboard like you own the place ez pz
Easy $900
Maybe they should dig up unexploded ordinance, and then you pay their wages in Pokemon cards
It's all about confidence
Or sometimes you just need a clipboard and a high vis vest... No one will even question what you are doing
You gotta make these scalpers afraid to even THINK of scalping ever again
Ah now we're using terror tactics
Sounds cruel and unusual
The escalation of violence from a man called "Protector" is rather rapid
He's over protecting though
I guess
Above and beyond
It is true
The road to hell is paved with good intentions
They’re never gonna stop scalping anything that can be scalped until you do something extreme to stop them
My mom's good intentions... Silly boomer
Would you jail a man for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family?!
Well scalpers rarely do it out of need
They're quite well off to afford to buy their stock
Do they EVER do it out of need?
Well I NEED $900 cuz it's $900
But would such extreme measures be able to differentiate?
FYI, $500 is the threshold between petty and grand theft in most states
But cardboard is worthless
I assure you those cutouts did not cost anybody $900
It's only worth $900 if I'm selling it
that's just the made-up number weirdos are selling it for
One of these scalpers did actually bring a gun to steal the Pokemon cards
I hope one day you see the irony and the flaw in your ideas here
They’re selling it for whatever people are willing to pay
Someone was asking for $2k but don’t know if that sold…
A very small % actually profits
A fool and his money...
Oh there’s plenty of profit
Such violence and extremity, for so little good...
Do you not see that you are no better?
you would terrorize and intimidate and employ harmful violence against a small minority in order to ensure your own ideological victory, simply to prove that you are right
Hell yeah brother! 'Murikah!
you say it's for a better world but does a better world really have so many human skulls, metaphorical or otherwise
It's just what humans do bro
Statements like that just further Prima's desire to turn all humans into bees
Prima wants to do what?
At some point you must realize that your ideals corrupt when enforced by power
To bee or not to bee
Would it be a moral good to turn humans into eusocial insects?
At some point people need to recognize that violence is not human nature, it's just man's idea of what life could be, if its only purpose was to destroy this poor world's surface
Would you consider selfishness human nature?
The gratification of "owning" the scalpers with your security and armed guards would be drowned in the blood spilled for such a pointless decapitation of the hydra of human greed and social corruption
Fratricide is only one generation younger than humanity itself
Human nature IS that vicious and depraved
No
We killin frat bros?
It is not
Yes
Im going to the store to buy myself food, while im in excess calories and could live well of body fat alone for a few weeks. And not someone else in need, yes id call us selfish by default
The world is a beautiful place, and the people on it, across all their cultures, are even more so
It is our nature to love, to share and to be kind, and to protect that which we hold dear
Oh boy
Greed, gluttony, and all of that are not natural behaviors
Going to China or the Middle East would quickly prove you wrong
keep your pineapple pizza culture away from me
They are corruptions of our better nature, normalized by the wicked to justify their own existence
people are complicated
Knowing her, she’d rather put honey on pizza
China has an incredibly rich culture, as does the middle east
Honey and flowering plants
Many of the wonders of the modern world were invented there, as much as Europe and the Americas
How to trigger #off-topic: Post Cardboard Charizard. ✍️
Or just wait a minute, it will happen naturally
Nah, there’s always a catalyst.
If you took a giant saw and cut europe, the middle east, and asia apart and used some kind of force field to keep them apart, they would ALL be much worse off for it
Europe would likely not have modern mathematics
-# Yeah I know you people probably hate math but deal with it
We cutting the middle east in half?
first thing in the morning
People are nice much, much, MUCH more often than they are mean
That's just a fact.
If it weren't, we would be extinct. Period.
Butterflies & rainbows
We are flawed, we get scared by things we do not understand, we develop irrational hatred of those things because we cannot comprehend them, often because we are so disconnected from them, but to say that humans are violent and selfish by default is just a lie
Instead of relying on the existing borders that no one is happy with, just put the force fields along arbitrary lines to separate the territories instead.
There are selfish people out there, and they would LOVE for us to just accept their cruelty as "human nature" and I am of the opinion that we should stop tolerating it
Firestorm Wall activated
Should mention that a lot of the most influential and powerful people in the world have a lot of impact on how we function as a society, and a lot of them aren’t the most altruistic out there
And it's normal to try to "fix" our fears by imposing power to make things work the way we like, the way we idealize
Like Overprotector's ideas for "fixing" scalping
honey, nut, pears on pizza is a thing tho, often paired with ham
But you must, for the sake of a better world, realize that this isn't the solution
Or at least, should be the LAST resort
People also spend more time around those they like, so yeah it makes sense why being nice is more common. The question is how people usually react to people or things that get in the way of one's desires or preferences
(Btw I'm not joining either side of the argument with this, just pointing out the correlation of time spent)
It's part of why I think the internet and social media is the greatest invention humanity has ever created
I mean aside from the fact that it's awesome I can just type "cat" and see pictures of cats
That's AWESOME and way better than sliced bread
Our fears, our prejudices, are based entirely on lack of understanding
Prima has over 133k posts in the server & more than half of them are paragraphs
This! This right here!
This proves Overprotector just hasn't really interacted with these places
Someone told him some nasty lies and he just believes them because they're on the opposite side of the planet and he has no way to verify it
Whats my count shell not including the "chat"
And in 1950 the only way to get around this would be to buy expensive airplane tickets and fly out to those places
125k
Damn, y'all never shut up hahaha
😎
Prima talks too much
I wasn't here a year and still over 100k
So bad people could just take any exagerration they want and run with it and everyone would just believe that yes this part of the world is a faceless mob that wants to eat kittens or something
But now, with the internet, I can just talk to people, anywhere on earth
Instantly. The illusion of division is shattered
im in danger if i comment on this
And because of that I see them as people, real actual people with real hopes and real dreams and not some faceless mob that thinks whatever the newsman tells me
Shell can I know my count
I've been here for twice as long & have less posts, and I feel like I never shut up haha
And through that understanding I can sympathize with them as people, I develop a genuine compassion and care about people I would've never known existed
Probably not close to as high but I'm still curious
Lol almost 2000
and i think that's the most beautiful thing in the world
You can just search a name in the search bar & find out
I tried that and it just told me 1,000+
I'm pretty sure everoyne is just ignoring me (again) but I genuinely believe what I said
Maybe that'll change by the thousands
With the internet, the difference between the nightmare of today and a brighter tomorrow is just people being willing to open up to the wonder of that brighter tomorrow
What is Prima even rambling about
Nothing anyone else cares about...
And with who
Hope, unity, belief in a better humanity
Hippies
Dw your hopemaxxing was noticed
She’s asserting that human nature is amazing
IT IS
Something she wouldn't if she experienced more than 1% Of the outside world
For real tho
We've just convinced ourselves it isn't
Granted, she was right that I haven’t traveled much
"Humans are greedy by default" is exactly why the greedy 1% get away with their sh-t
Because we internalize it was NORMAL to kick puppies and abuse children when it is expressly abnormal and bordering on INHUMAN
I’m kinda switching between two things atm here so it’s hard for me to talk
The furthest I traveled was to Washington state as a baby
I was in the army for 12 years, I know the world isn't all peaches.
It's good to have a healthy skepticism about people as a whole, and to not be so trusting right away, it might save you from finding yourself in a very bad situation
We appreciate your service
I'm not saying every human on earth is a saint or something
I'm not saying that everyone is just super nice by default all the time
but the world is a beautiful place, it just might take some dedication and patience to fully come to terms with that depending on how you were raised
Shell is maple flavored
The world is only beautiful if you get away from the urban hellhole
Hoorah
Radio Knight
I am saying that:
- People doing bad things is, mostly, the result of being forced or heavily pressured into doing so, or otherwise not knowing better
- If their situation or knowledge were better, they would act better
- The truly disgusting people in this world intentionally normalize that it is natural, and that improvement to the situation would yield no change, because
- If we recognized that people were good by default, then it would make those bad people outcasts, and strip them of the power to abuse they so desperately cling to
Shell walkie talkie Knight
that last one is important
Pretty much
I’ve been wanting more to get into traveling recently to see more parts of the world because there’s so much to see when life can be so short
John Richman is allowed to stomp on people with his rich boy boots because "greed is human nature" is ingrained into our thinking
I used to set up these 40 foot telescopic antennas in the field, they'd make you set one up by yourself & you had to do it in less than 15 mins
We would have no tolerance for him if we considered it expressly abnormal to stomp people for no reason other than because you can
So we need to go to the 1% houses and burn them down with the richers inside
Sometimes you had to set up a bunch, up to four
He would no longer be John Richman he would be John Stranded on An Island Forever
How did he get stranded
John Stranded is one hell of a cool name tho, dibbing that for my pirate
anyways I think that’s enough contributions from me
For every truly wicked person that has ever tried to seize the world by force, ten million good people were willing to put their lives on the line to stop them
rayquaza be like: “dear arceus, i quit. as for managing kyogre and groudon. i leave it up to you. i still dislike deoxys thought”

this episode is stupid
John Marooned is a more fitting pirate name
I never knew this was a thing.
Maybe I am wrong
but I sure don't see any of you coming up with a better reason the planet still has trees and puppies
And I sure don't hear a better solution to the world's problems
You're right, we need to eat the rich to make the world a better place
Our skulls aren't filled with bubblegum
the kid is initiated into the series claiming the first po*emon he wants to catch is mew
This goes back to the gratification discussion
UNFORTUNATELY
AS FUN AS IT WOULD BE
Eating the rich will not make the world a better place
then a shiney Rayquaza casually enters a ball
Didn't you just suggest stranding Richman on an island?
....I mean at the very least the horrible diseases that would break out around the world would be awful
It was a metaphor
Jesus do you have your whole days rants already typed out & you just copy/paste them?
That was fast
That genuinely terrible people would be outcast if humanity as a whole actually believed in its better nature
I did very good in a keyboarding class and I have ADHD
Me too!
The rate of thought->words on the screen is impressive
Except for the good in a class part
Honestly I feel like a lot of the ultra-rich that hurt others are already on metaphorical islands, but they don't have to care when they have a handful of people who "like" them (even if just for the money) and enough money to do whatever they want
So societal disapproval doesn't actually do much to stop bad actions
Outcast as in their money and power would be taken away
I mean there is no real legal obligation to put up with their crap, and so what if there is if the legal people ALSO don't want to put up with their crap
Rampant cannibalism would just further prove that human nature is inherently sinful and immoral
People just go along with it because they have resigned to the tyranny of the wicked
Because they think that there is no better nature in man to stop it
By who? I don't really trust my government of proven [I don't know if I can say that word in this server; files and an island, you know] to right the wrongs
Imagine eating another human because you covet his wealth, smh
We just accept that "well they're technically following the rules" (They aren't)
And if more people started believing in the better nature of man, then that acceptance would grind to a halt
You were suggesting scalpers be shot and pushed back by riot squads
The Yoshis Island Manifesto
just because they covet pokemon cards
Which is what my original point was
A solution based on some strong man imposing power by authority and force is no better than the problem
It is the very corruption of better natures I was ranting about
Can we at least give it a try though?
Scalpers are one of the problems that legitimately bedevil a free market. They create artificial scarcity to drive up the price to unnatural levels
Sounds like the NFT bros
Like I said
People are supposed to nice and loving but our desire to protect what is dear to us can easily be corrupted (intentionally or not) into harmful wickedness
It is what of the demons we must learn to tame, both as individuals and as a people
They continue to sabotage the market for personal profit, and have faced no serious consequences
See
You want to protect your ideals of capitalism, and are allowing that desire to be corrupted into causing harm for others, possibly people that do not deserve it
You are becoming blind to the consequences of your actions because you only want to see your ideals proven and protected
Which
not to say that there's some magical world where just believing in people's better nature will make scalpers just stop
At least some of them are "Just Like That" and need to be slapped, but what you're suggesting is like throwing a frag grenade to kill a fly
Yeah the fly sure won't survive but you also blew up your kitchen
People are evil by default though.
"1 blocked message"
Opens
"People are evil be default"
Ah, it all makes sense
And the insistence that people only do evil due to outside factors or pressures ignores that other people have differing praxeologies than you operate from.
It's a blank slate fallacy.
In my mind there are two possibilities
- People are good, and you just need to believe in them, and give them the chance and the encouragement to prove it (sometimes easier said than done)
- People are bad, and nothing will stop them from lying, cheating, and kicking others down on a global scale
Possibility 2 is, in my assessment, impossible because if that were true, Earth would be dead. We would've killed it in our unending malice and hatred. We would've killed every tree, every bird, every bug, every human, by deliberate malice
That we choose not to step on things that we can absolutely just step on without consequences, is highly telling
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
Yeah we are killing the earth, yeah we are killing the things on it
But it's by negligence
It's a non-issue in an actually capitalistic market, which we do not have, as the increase in a price within a region is technically a facet of freedom of speech, and communicates to others in the wider market that there is a greater demand than there is supply. This would be met with other suppliers bringing in product to meet that excess demand in allocation or to produce more. Rationing stifles this communication and prevents that allocation being made to meet that demand.
Mining corporations do not dump toxic waste because it's fun, they dump it because they are too stupid to know better, or because they are more worried about their bottom line and there's not enough encouragement to be better
MOst mines do not, in fact, dump toxic waste everywhere
"Humanity is evil" would require people to actively dump toxic waste for NO REASON, for NO GAIN, simply because they can
Another possibility is that people are inherently selfish at times, but they also have a "conscience" whether inherent, taught, or both that directs them away from easy selfishness and towards good
But we don't. It's extremely rare if it happens at all
Rarer than albino bigfoot
In fact, most people leave things alone when they absolutely have the power to harm those things, stand to gain at least a little something from harming them, and would face little repercussions for doing so
There is a spectrum to evil and only 1 good, just because someone doesn't display what you consider an extreme action doesn't mean that person is good either.
Or... alternatively... humans are too complex to summarize everyone in all of history as "good" or "bad"?
I posit that this selfishness is simply our core instincts to survive
Carby
I'm talking about whether people default to being evil, or default to being good, if presented with a scenario where both options are available with no particular consequences either way
Before we continue in a lengthy discussion on morality, can you confirm whether you have a naturalistic and materialistic worldview or if you have some degree of openness to metaphysics?
Most of the harm to this planet is simple negligence
We did not know better, and now it's too costly to undo it
Everyone has a mix in different amounts. Some people live off their temptations and whims, others have seen how it hurts others and choose to be better.
But yet...we are making an effort, an effort that is not truly necessary
I believe that our actions as a species indicate we are inclinded to be kind and compassionate by default
Still not possible to sort people by good, evil, bad, anything. Everyone is different
Brutal
And that our malice and hatred are flaws. Real and tangible ones, yes, but not what we exist to express
I don't disagree. Was listening to an audiobook that actually used the instinct to survive as an example for a very similar conversation. It proposed how if you saw someone in danger, such as drowning, part of you would instinctually want to avoid danger to protect your own life. But at the same time, just about everyone would also have an "instinct" to ignore selfishness and try to help the person in trouble
We are all different, but across the world we all value similar "good" ideals
i was gonna tag myself but i can't be bigfoot with 35% organic material on me left over
Different cultures have different inherent values too, what some find friendly offend others
And our actions show that these ideals are more "normal" than not
Sorry, I got kinda confused just now
That was a genuine question.
You do have ADHD that's for damn sure
The V sign is a hand gesture in which the index and middle fingers are raised and parted to make a V shape while the other fingers are clenched. It has various meanings, depending on the circumstances and how it is presented.
When displayed with the palm inward toward the signer, it can be an offensive gesture in some Commonwealth nations (simil...
I'm not trying to sort people, I'm arguing that humans are compassionate and caring towards other people and to some extent all "life", as their normal behavior
Some exceptions here and there, neurodivergence and all that we could talk about it all day
History and philosophy give us a track record that disagrees with this notion.
...Maybe I just don't live in an area that proves this well...
Adults have a lot of prejudices and biases and life experiences
So no one will just "love" everyone else
I mean like
Some pokemon fans would block me on sight for saying "Palworld's #1 fan" in my bio
It's always a funny one when the USA version of the peace sign is basically swearing at someone in the UK, I find it hilarious personally
I'm not saying that's not true or that that's unnatural, I'm saying that generally, we try to be nice to each other
That's from British archer times. If they captured pows they would cut their index and middle finger off so you couldn't shoot back at them. It's like a "look mf I still got mine" kind of f u
Often out of necessity, with strangers
but we are also programmed with a particular defensiveness that makes us wary and skeptical of people and especially things we don't know
Tails wth
You can't do that
This is where most "hatred" comes from
Basically that's my argument, really
A V for each tail
Peace was never an option
Wrong. Leave two toddlers together for an hour alone and one or both will be dead when you get back... Hence unprogrammed humans start off evil
Hatred comes from the fact we're hard wired for small groups and small communities, and the "other" of other tribes and groups competing for limited resources hasn't quite worked it's way out of our lizard brain
Other sources can't be pride or greed?
I don't really think "greed" is something built into human nature
...I'm going to bed now...
Pride, maybe?
As an offshoot of ego
I mean for starters
We invented money
That stuff does NOT exist in nature
Material wealth does not exist in nature
Marcellis Wallace said f pride
man someone in my region is collecting tv remotes
Tbf it made trade wayyy easier
Monkeys will trade food for sex
ive seen his listings, 7200 items, all tv remotes
I mean money isn't like inherently evil but we can't be programmed with an unreasonable desire to accumulate it because it doesn't exist naturally
Any human feelings towards money are basically unnatural by default
Resource scarcity is a fact of how a material universe works, what are you talking about?
The dude abides
bro has supreme control
Do you honestly believe that greed only existed after an invention to abstract wealth with a fungible, other, material?
Derivative of natural things, of course
But money is something fundamentally alien to human nature
That's why people get CRAZY when they have, see, or desire a lot of it!
Do you have a source for that?
This is all just some Prima alt-earth headcannon
Money is a stand-in for anything else a person could acquire, if it didn't exist, the greed for the raw goods themselves, what that money represented, would still exist.
We desire "material wealth" as an extension of "materials" as we need to survive
All money is, is an efficient way to trade 2 cows for 3 chickens and a bucket of toast, using tokens instead of carrying cows
It's an abnormal condition of society that money is literally required to be alive
The IRS like sents a hitman to hunt you down if you do not acquire and then hand over money
Currency has been around for a long time. People rely on it for survival to buy food and shelter, take care of their health, and also get things they're just interested in... we definitely have an inherent attachment to it. We're demanded to even if we don't like it...
And that, that totally f-cks with our psychology
Yes and No, it's abnormal in how we do it, but it's not abnormal to trade resources for effort
It's not just a medium of acquiring things, it's literally a lifeblood
Food is required to be alive, so is water, things being required to live is normal.
It makes us unreasonably defensive of it, want an unlimited supply of it because that means unlimited being alive
Ehhh it's only a lifeblood because it's a medium of acquisition
You can't be comfortable without a pretty significant amount of money
Again
The IRS.
Please, just read Hoppe.
They put you in prison and stuff if you do not produce the money
You are treated as having less value if you do not produce the money
We agree, the 3 letter agencies are a bad thing.
So... greed.
If humanity is inherently above this, why do large societies function off it?
They actually don't mess with you if you earn no money, so "The IRS like sents a hitman to hunt you down if you do not acquire and then hand over money" isn't really accurate
You maintain that humans are not naturally evil, but then you show disdain for one of the largest mafias in the world.
I did not say humanity is inherently above it.
But you need to earn money to survive because money gets you food, and when you earn that money, the government wants their cut
What makes us unreasonably defensive about it and other things is the internet
Before we had world news in our pocket, events in America, China, ect wouldn't be "known" and feel like they're happening right now in our face.
This messes with our hardwiring of looking for safety and security, and given marketing floods us with the "next new thing" and the endorphins of the new shiny, we've broken our baselines
I said humanity is not naturally greedy
Y'all talking in all paragraphs today... How am I supposed to keep up?
It's a massive warping and corruption of other, well-meaning parts of our nature
I disagree massively
Your worldview makes no internal sense. I'll take your silence on the issue to mean that you do maintain a naturalistic and materialistic worldview that excludes metaphysics, so your it follows your opinions on morality and ethics are worth nothing.
And of course this is all before we start talking about the fact that "leadership" generally has sociopaths in it
I would never have developed my hope and faith in humanity if I hadn't used the internet to see parts of the world I can never visit
Which screws with the morals being fed down
Humans definitely are... I wish I could agree... but I watched the news for a few days and couldn't lie to myself.
*Edit: we are not above greed
This is factually incorrect.
And in my experience there is far more good in this world than bad
My hope and faith in humanity is what I see around me, when I see people doing the good things, not someone the other side of the world doing the good thing
It's nice to see, don't get me wrong
But it's not actually impacting my "world"
I can only see the world through the screen, through the people I talk to on this app and others
The "world" around me is tiny, limited
I have no comprehension of other parts of the world, I do not know anything about them, I would struggle to even recognize them as human
But because I can talk to them, talk to people all over the world, my world is so much wider
It can't be that much wider if you are so quick to block and shut out others for stating ethics you don't like, that's how you get an echo chamber.
As I said, it's a demon we must tame, first as individuals and then as a society
Is that what it's called, an echo chamber? Thanks, didn't know it had a name
I suppose I'm not saying we don't have evil thoughts, or wicked motives
I'm saying that we CAN overcome, that they are NOT what we are
There's no shot society will ever tame it anymore
Well that's quitter talk
Echo chamber or bubble is the term commonly used for a small, self-repeating community discussion where affirmation is circular and external or conflicting views get hard yeeted
That's why we never tame it
Because we accept it as an immovable object
One cannot overcome sin nature without God, though I doubt you're going to accept that.
Lots of EMP's
How pathetic! The race that conquered the van allen belts and put a flag on the moon, that mastered electricity and sent probes far into the stars, cannot overcome petty greed!
Thousands, MILLIONS of people have already done it, and we owe the wonders of our modern lives to those people
The way society is built with AI art, anyone being able to lie through a screen, hide their real intentions, the motivation to gain influence, power, and money, the march for progress and knowledge while wanting pure convenience... most people will never let go of what they have now to improve.
Irony in that statement, all of that was done out of greed for space race
"Small" groups came together with these goals, but the Space Race was because USA and Russai hated each other
Lol
massively missing the point
Dropping a winning lottery ticket in anyone's hands is a good idea? Money and power change people.
Not saying everyone would do terrible things but who wouldn't get defensive instantly
Greed alone could've never gotten out of the atmosphere
I'm not. We as a species are capable of great good, but also great evils. And it's all down to how the tribes
Our sins were only ever dragging Apollo down
Greed killed multiple astronauts because they couldn't accept deadlines
And in spite of them, not because of them, we still did it
Prosthesis these days are incredible, but that came from trying to heal victims of the wars
And now we're doing it AGAIN, despite AGAIN the best efforts of our sins
Not all bad causes good, and not all good causes bad, but conflict is a core driver in progreaaion in our society
Would you call that evil?
The cause, yes. The effect, no
The cause is irrelevant
Without the cause, the effect wouldn't have been there?
What matters is people set out to help others, to fix what our mistakes made broken
People won't set out to help others without feeling the need to do so, without a cause or motivation
They had no requirement to do that
They could've said no and invested in profitable petrochemical industries instead
Cause matters more than effect, personally
Altruism does exist, there's infinite examples of it, hell, I'd be dead if it wasn't because one guy decided to make Insulin easily accesible, yet in the USA it's literally bankrupting people to stay alive
The Seat Belt
They didn't patent it because they wanted to save lives
"Altruism does exist, there's infinite examples of it" that's my point
There are double that number of examples of... we'll politely call it, anti-altruism
I would disagree
History has a lot of wars
Anti-altruism would be if there was expressly nothing to gain
But you are at the same time denying the fact that the people who were in the position to be altruistic, were only there due to the causes.
The people who were working on prosthesis were only able to and influenced to because people's lives were being shattered by war
???? no I'm not
Necessity is the mother of invention
You said the cause was irrelevent
People that do those terrible things did it for personal gain
But I'm saying that because people do things for altruistic purposes, that people ARE capable and generally inclined to act out of compassion
Or because it was Tuesday
A fair reminder wed have free electricity if Edison wasnt a lil bitch
I'm not saying everyone is a saint, or that nothing bad has ever been because of humanity
I'm saying that our evil can be overcome, at least on an individual level, and on a large scale
And if individuals can overcome it...then why not society as a whole?
Is that not a future worth believing in?
Is that not a world worth fighting for?
In short - some humans are inclined towards good, some are towards bad. Near everyone is a mix of the 2.
and wed also have free water if a certain someone didn't controll it
Poseidon
The "Liquidators" or "Human robots" of Chernobyl, who knew they were basically going to die to try and help contain the reaction damage. Their actions are selfless, and applaudable, but they're there because other people's ignorance, greed, arrogance all bled down to a disaster
What someone is inclined towards depends on who they are
That is beauty of our individuality
Prisoner's dilemma. Some people see they can gain more for themself, so, in a society where everyone is happy and friendly with your ideal view, it would be far too easy to gain more for themself. And because people are different, plenty would be more than willing to take advantage of that.
But I believe we are all capable of being better, that we are all capable of being good people and most of the time we do bad is because we feel it is either the right thing to do or because we do not have a choice
So if we're all individual... why are you so adamant that "everyone is good" ? That there's 0 room for there to be bad people minus "a few exceptions" ?
We are more good than bad
Capable and willing to be are 2 different things
...So, people aren't unique individuals or different from each other...
???
I'd say many could be capable, but are unfortunatly too reward and incentive driven to act in some cases, or too afraid because the system they are in will destroy them for being "good"
Our individuality bleeds into a collective morality and conscious when you zoom out past a certain point
Just as our individual primitive cells bleed into a conscious mind when you zoom out
I'm 110% lost now
And I think, and will die on this hill, that the collective conscious of humanity is more good than bad
You ignore Christian ethics and attribute the good that God has done to humanity, all while downplaying humanities moral evils by saying it has done more good than evil by its own virtue.
We do not give ourselves enough credit, and as a weird feedback loop that causes us to act so much worse than we are
If you want to keep believing this, do not turn on the news for a day
The news expressly benefits by telling me things that will anger and upset me
They do not provide an accurate image of the world
If people are inherently good then why would they want to do that?
They will ignore the good for the bad, because reporting on the bad makes them the money they so desire
So they're greedy?
Perhaps that is a flaw of our money-driven society
Perhaps they would still act that way if there was no bottom line to fuss about
Ignore things that show humanities evils a priori
humanity is good, greed is not natural
conclusions are refuted by all of human history
insist conclusions are accurate despite others saying the contrary with citations
How did society become money-driven if humanity is inherently good?
Drink it you son of a bitch, DRINK IT
If we're good then these things shouldn't have ever had the chance to happen at all
And there's the third perspective
I did not.
Say.
Humanity invariably picks the goodest and bestest options in every scenario
"In the war against dehydration, I AM THE SOLDIER"
Society takes a lot of people agreeing to go with it to maintain focus on money
Or whatever it focuses on
"If humanity good, why do bad thing" problem of evil, except there aren't philosophical answers to be found, unlike with the typical problem of evil discussions in religious circles.
And it took a lot of decisions to get to the point where the news could focus on only putting out news that opposes what you think
Lots of stuff had to go wrong before that
Let me clear.
I am saying that people would like to pick the nicer option if they had the choice
What exactly IS the nicer option varies a lot, and the "nicer" option may not actually be the option that does the most good, but people typically do what they think is right (obligations to life, contracts, and the like aside), and we all generally agree on what that means
The path to damnation is, after all, paved with good intentions.
What seems the best option is not always a good choice
And humanity is certainly not above making that mistake
Or greed or pride or laziness or convenience or-
In a purely naturalistic and materialistic universe, there are no such things as good and evil, only nature and it's might makes right lived experience. Stop taking philosophical concepts from Christianity and step down from discussions on morality, your worldview literally cannot provide a framework for it.
Ok there are a lot of roads to damnation but the one that is most traveled is the one paved with good intentions
or something like that
The road to hell is made from a fused black stone not found here on surface earth
"Something like that" ??
Adamant about "something like that" ?

I'm... tired.
I'm just gonna go...
I'm adamant that this world and the people are worth believing in
Anime moment
I'm adamant that "humanity is just greedy by default" is how the greedy people get away with their cruelty.
I'm adamant that the difference between today and a brighter future is people believing that we as a people are capable of delivering it
Against the evidence to the contrary, you choose evil over good.
I hold hope thst the species will on average choose the better path, but I don't bet my sanity on it
Because if those things are not true then there is no point to anything, because all our world will ever amount to is radioactive ash and broken promises
All I've been saying is, that's way too generalized of a statement for me to fathom the possibility of
People are individual, so some are inherently good, some aren't... categorizing into neat simple sentences can feel satisfying but wow is it a dangerous thing to do on such a broad scale
I'm taking my leave
Welcome to the logical end-point of a naturalistic and materialistic worldview, unavoidable nihilism, as nothing matters.
...are you saying some people aren't good? That they don't deserve the chance?
Stop trying to square a circle with a self-undermining framework.
If they aren't, I will
If things were only fair, and not loving, then everyone would be burning in hell.
There are people out there who are irredemable by society's standards, never mind on an individual basis
But less than 1% of the earth's surface is currently irradiated so as I see it there is still a chance
fairness alone doesn't make for a "good" outcome for people.
Whatever I say doesn't matter. I do think people deserve a chance.
In all honesty, I used to agree. I used to think everyone could be taught to make good choices.
But I started paying attention to my surroundings.
And I will believe in that chance until the unnatural sunrise of the nuclear armaggedon so ensured by the nihilistic logic of this age
It just isn't true
Until this planet dies, I will always be right
Some people really just don't care about others, and not a small amount
What about those who support AI data scraping, stealing artists' work? Those people are so insistent on following their vision of theft for profit that they'll shamelessly, publicly state that they're upset when websites take measures to protect themselves.
First off, it's not theft.
And that AI is for instant gratification
???
The technical definition is depriving you of property. By copying it you still have the original
I believe they deserve a chance to be better
Maybe they will
They probably won't
And they should be punished accordingly then
It's an argument used regarding piracy a lot
Maybe it won't happen
Change is slow
Theft pertains to when someone violates another's property rights to deprive the owner of that scarce good, ideas and publicly posted data are inherently non-scarce.
Whatever the technical definition is, the company is using someone else's work for profit without consent
The general pattern of AI scraping is despicable, and it should be stopped
legal and technical semantics notwithstanding
It's the most transformative use possible of an existing work, you'd have to do away with fair use in order to stop it, and subsequently, violate an inherent right in freedom of speech, which stems from First Principles.
They're getting chances. The backlash is the websites protecting themselves, and people criticizing it.
They're choosing not to look at what they're doing.
The consistent, principled position on it is that traning on publicly posted works is fine.
But we do not live in a better world yet
We live in a world run by the liars where such greed is tolerated and normalized
Fair use doesn't require permission.
So they will most likely get away with it
Despite your emotional appeal, there is nothing wrong with training off of publicly posted data or works in the market.
But how is the world in this state if humanity is so inclined towards good?
You do have to remember the greater pressures acting on them
The twisted effects of how they were raised and their money and blah blah blah
I have low confidence in people like that, but I do not think this should exclude them from society's best effort to make them change course
Still profiting off other people's works without consent...
Mistakes. Liars. 500+ years of not knowing any better and being afraid to try to change.
I'd disagree because of the fact that it diminishes the value of the data in many contexts, and also in a lot of other cases is just outright misinformation. There's active AI poisoning activities ongoing because of this for example
People don't live that long. For it to still be happening, at least a decent number of people would have to have inherent greed or pride driving their decisions
"not knowing any better"
No one has lived long enough to see the spiral for what it is
Not knowing better, so founded on something "not good"
"being afraid to try to change" see: this conversation, the reaction to "communism"
I have to put away groceries... I'm out
We are raised by a world that does not know anything different, only failed systems of the past
Third time you've said that
ANd we are perhaps so prideful that in hubris we believe this system is the ONE that won't fail
On my count anyways
So the notion of a reform or a new system is spat upon, booed off the stage, and voted out
Maybe they're out of stuff which is why they are getting the groceries in
Writing styles and art styles are not something people can own, the original works can't be reproduced naturally using the tools, as the models are dwarfed by the training data used to make them, so you can't argue the entire book is within the model either. It's fair use by definition.
If you need to buy something from a monopoly in order to begin making a critique, satire or parody of it and the monopoly seller refuses to sell it to you, then your freedom of speech is stifled. That's why fair use doesn't require permission, it's fair use, not fair acquisition.
damn scalpers really have no limit do they
How can someone not own an art style if that's how they paint, or writing style if that's how they write?
I'm not saying they have an exclusive right to be the only human to do it in their way, but at the same time that's a bit of a wild stretch for things
Fair use is just that, fair. It respects (or disrespects) the original work and creates soomething new. It doesn't outright rip off and show the original as their own because it was done using a different tool, different paintbrush, or an AI model
It's lamentable, but it doesn't make us bad people, nor does it make our forefathers bad people
By that logic's extreme a child failing to perform long division is an iredeemable failure
and proves said child is actually evil
which is just silly!
There's a difference between "drawing in studio ghibli style" and just photocopying the pictures
"Scalpers" aren't the problem, the Rationers are, artificially limiting supply with copyright and stiffling speech through price by preventing those pricing signals from happening in the first place. If other TCG companies were able to print off Pokemon cards and ship them out, there wouldn't be such a drought of them out there, for example.
We make mistakes! It's ok!
What's not ok is that we have thus far just watched in stupefied horror as our mistakes snowball into a world-ending catastrophe instead of critically evaluating how we can fix it
How would a boomer-shooter in the style of Picasso's paintings be a market replacement for his artwork? I just don't see anything ethically wrong with AI training on publicly posted works, you can own a physical painting as the paint on the canvas, the object, but you can't ethically claim to own the pattern it's arranged into.
That's a transformative use for a start
If the game was claiming to be a picasso original, or claim the artstyle was their own instead, which by your statements to my understanding you are, how is that proper?
Yeah this is the REAL reason I have that guy blocked, though the plastering of christianity on my words makes me want to double-block
The AI models are "learning" from the sources, sure, but when the model can basically write a book in the style of Frank Herbert, does this mean someone is entitled to take over and continue the Dune series?
Bro does not value art, it's not a commodity to him
Also does not understand how learning works
Or maybe chooses to ignore them to maintain their chosen fighter in the game of morality combat
The studio couldn't claim the work was a Picasso original, nor that the style was their own, they can claim it was based on his works.
Which isn't what you were saying before though?
If you own a statue, you can sell that statue, but if I take a picture of that statue, I own that print of a picture itself, not the pattern the statue is. If you or I post it online, the pattern is out there, a pattern neither of us owned in the first place.
