I'm not sure what my opinion is on Endymion, he makes mostly videos for contents sake, instead of diving further than 2 to 3 meter depths into a topic.
Everyone of his videos are very similar especially the thumbnail and opening parts "AAA got played" or "AAA messed up BIG"
hmm, so there's a group that was supposed to investigate or track down bad companies and groups, but instead that Tacking Group forked off money and funded those violent groups instead.
wait, that Tracking Group created the violent groups they were supposedly hunting down?
I've seen this scenario in a few movies, some themed during like medieval times, where some people I think it was a Sherlock Holmes movie, the Hound of Baskerville maybe.
But wow, yeah life immitates art.
Lol Nora please, Sherlock Holmes wasn't medieval times. It's like early 19th century
Er maybe late 19th.
Kids today: everything before the Internet was medieval times... XD
no, sorry, my train of thought was bigger than what I wrote down.
Sounds about right
I watched both medieval movies, and sherlock holmes stuff, and modern takes on that scenario.
Nora, my novelist bro...
I haven't written something in a long time sadly.
Just short essays on DC?
yea
and that's all under the iron fist of the 1k character limit of discord non-premium
but the pen is bigger than these chains.
I scared my 3rd or 4th grade teacher with a writing assignment... She had to call my mom and make sure that I wasn't involved with the armed robbery that I made up lol

The trailer ACME doesn’t want you to see. Coyote vs. ACME. In theaters August 28. https://www.coyotevsacme.com/
Came across this yesterday. Apparently Wile E. Coyote is going to court with ACME Corp. in this movie.

A flattering angle.
Proofreading update: yeesh, it's really clear that I wrote this in patches. Some sections are better than others, during later passes I might need to focus on blending the patches together.
Easily the most important thing I've seen all day
Some folks were hysterical about this, but one comment was chill about it. If you’re connected to the internet, then the new terms don’t affect you. It’s only for those doing “other” things that I don’t remember but weren’t good
That really isn’t the point.
Even though PS3 is still technically supported games on the system should really just work even in an apocalypse.
The nanny is excessive.
"the new terms don't affect you" until the network chip in your PS5 fails, you go somewhere without internet, or Sony pulls the plug on authentication servers
It's an unnecessary and wasteful """security""" measure
And as an Xbox console user I can speak from experience that it can only get worse
If my Internet goes out my state of the art gaming machine literally becomes a giant plastic brick
Wifi crapped out, guess I’ll play Uncharted, ah fug
Seems awfully convenient to go this deep on DRM after actively paving the way to get people used to not having disk-drive PlayStations
they need to justify the existence of the ps6 somehow, if they can remove your access to everything you've owned on the ps4/5 they can get you to buy the games again for the next generation of console
It's unlikely they'll actually pull the plug just because that is the line to end all lines
But it's the principal of the matter, that a machine is artificially restricted in its function for their pleasure
Idk, some people who started PlayStation will just stick with PlayStation
or maybe just stop gaming altogether
They already went through that from PS3 to 4
don't worry, PS6 will purely be a streaming device connected to PS Plus servers with required server fees, subscription fees, improvement fees, usage fees, bandwidth requirements, and despite everything it still won't be capable of outputting 4K without framegen
"but you can play on your account from any* wifi connection!" subject to bandwidth requirements
seems like a pretty bad idea to screw around with consumers even more after pricing people out of buying their systems worldwide
Why do you say bandwidth requirements like that's not implicit
speaking of which it’s Southeast Asia’s turn
history will repeat itself
Do you think they can just program machines to not be limited by network speed
It's less "this machine is this bad" and more "always-on network policy is this bad"
what’s really bad for them is that they’ve got nothing in terms for games right now after pissing away like 10 GaaS games no one wanted in the first place
What do you mean people don't want to pay more rent
they should just not care about the console itself, because everything just offers a better experience for a better price.
just be a publisher for better games.
I was happy that they finally brought over the Kingdom Hearts game to pc, but we are missing the music game.
But them just saying "we will no longer pc release" because of some steam reviews, because it took them 4 years to unleash the game from the shitty Epic Game Store hostage buyout situation.
I'll give them flack for their insane decisions to prioritise short term money instead of delivering a good experience and service to the customer first.
I mean they want people into their ecosystem for their services; PS Plus, controllers, accessories, etc.
I buy ps4 controllers
the best still slightly available on the market.
I hate the ps5 design, too fat like xbox controllers for my hands.
again, crazy stupid decision to just make the controller more fat.
You might think otherwise that they’d want people in their ecosystem from their business decisions as of late, but there is a reason they would rather stick around as a hardware provider
oh yeah the Dualsense sucks
tbh I’ve sworn off most first-party controllers for years and went to other providers like 8bitdo
in my past third party were not really good quality.
those were different days; we’re past the MadCatz era
nowadays there are a decent amount of very exceptional third-party controller manufacturers that make more developed and longer-lasting controllers than first-party ones
okay I'll see if I can buy one of those and try them out.
no joke, I bought a brand new Red PS4 controller a few years ago; they gave me one with a worn out D-Pad, I exchanged it for an actual brand new one like they should’ve given me, and within a couple years the D-Pad ended up crashing out with a down button that no longer works consistently anyways
The trailer wasn't bad. Debating if I want to go see it or wait for it to come out on one od the streaming services.
I’ve only had experience with 8bitdo; their Pro 2/3 aren’t too bad and have a lot of immediate device compatibility, and the Ultimate 2 feels solid as a controller altogether
depending on whichever feel you’re looking for I’d recommend either one
no, not that kind of compatibility
the Pro 2 has a switch on the back that allows you to connect to four different devices and swap between them all on-the-fly
The four settings being; Switch, iOS/macOS, DInput, XInput - but you could probably break rules a bit with those
Yup, it comes with a USB-C charging cable; you can just plug it in to your machine and it’ll simply function as a wired pad
the Pro 2 D-Pad feels a lot like an SNES D-Pad if you prefer how that feels; the Pro 3 has the same but has a bit more ‘click’ to the directional pressing
PS4 controllers are not bad, but fr 8bitdo is good and I’ve heard good things about Gulikit as well - and now there’s the new Steam Controller coming out next week too
I’ve gone through less ps4 controllers than ps5, that oughta say something
thing is PS4 controllers have some weaknesses that allow them not to last as long as they should
They both are shit when it comes to their sticks. I play shooters and they’re heavy on the l3 input, so drift comes earlier than it should. Can’t wait to grab a Dualsense edge or something equivalent and map the back buttons to L3/R3
my Xbox One controller and my Switch Pro controller lasted longer than my DualShock 4 on PC

It looks like The pushback on AI is beginning to reach a head. However, I still think it will be months or even next year before the AI bubble bursts and everything comes tumbling down.
the poison has spread though, AI books, AI emails, AI training on work slaves.
It has made everything worse.
There is no turning this world around ever.
I need to clean my ps4 controller again, my right stick has a bit of an odd angle drift, like it drifts when at certain angles.
And the dpad is a bit double pressy.
Another scam has popped up and it seems the discord moderators have been caught napping. It has been around for two minutes and no one has taken it down...
Okay, now it's gone.
shame, shame, shame.
Getting back on topic, the backlash is now ranging from impeachments of local politicians to full-blown attacks on data center CEOs and their supporters.
Things are getting real messy.
I support constructive uses with AI, like researching crystalline structures for solid-state batteries. However, I am sure we can all agree the way big corps are pursuing it needs to stop, especially with the mass construction of large-scale data centers.
There must be accountability with the damage that both will and already has been done.
oh no yeah, any politician that’s in any-way supportive of that data center shit has been getting absolutely decimated, whether running or in-office
The votes are in, and it is overwhelmingly negative.
I mean they’ve done nothing but make everything worse for us through RAM shortages, electricity costs, job security loss, and an ass-ton of other things
All very good reasons why everybody's mad.
like it’s no surprise that most of the world hates the OpenAI CEO
I've been calling him the "Bane of Humanity" after hearing his talk about humans costing more energy to upkeep than AI.
which is the biggest “lmao right” statement ever
"Yea, Sam Altmann kan go ta Zog! I's dun wid all dis AI squig-slop."
Proofreading is hard when I keep yawning, but alas. Weather's cleared up, I should be getting more sunlight now.
proofread deez
A joke without a punchline? Rework your opening.
Took an allergy pill, using some eye drops, hopefully that'll make me feel less sleepy so I can actually proofread.
I keep forgetting I get Spring allergies and assuming I'm having sleep problems. It's quite annoying.
sleep is generally not considered a malady
Forcing yourself to do something when sleep is needed is what I’d consider a malady
ruining your life one night at a time.
Which in turn could also create an unwarranted stigma against their more effective use in certain applications.
The issue is that "AI" has been a popular shorthand for data sorting algorithms for a long time. But somehow ChatGPT and other LLMs managed to break the mold that'd grown over chatbots for a while.
And it just so happens that the uses we're being sold for them are objectively the worst ways to use them.
Gonna sit in my computer chair holding The Art of War or maybe a book of Edgar Allen Poe stories so I look smart while I'm not proofreading.
Every day I look at a task or problem and think "man I wish AI was good"
I’ll tell you one thing, AI translation is objectively better for Japanese anime and games than any of the woke localizers on the marker rn
Though, it is sad when your options are “clankers” or “wokies”
What
Used "woke" unironically, opinion immediately disregarded.
No, humans will always be better at translation
Machines translate words, humans translate intent and meaning
Not when they constantly inject leftist politics in the translation
But also yes a machine is terrible for localization. An important component of localizing is conveying the artist's intent. Perhaps there's a phrase that doesn't translate literally, or a certain word that translates into one with a different emotional impact. Skilled translaters and localization teams can pick up on these essential nuances.
Honestly I feel like people underestimate how "woke" foreign places can be. Like, Japan has liberals too, y'know?
There are jokes in anime that only work in Japanese and need explanations or changes to make sense to western audiences, for example.
I can't speak on Japan, but I've been playing a South Korean Gacha game with a very anti-capitalist narrative. Like, it's an essential part of the plot and I can't fathom how it could possibly have been lost in translation.
Like teleporting trains that get you from point A to point B in only a few seconds. Except actually they're teleporting you to an alternate reality where time flows differently, and you're stuck there for thousands of years of torment until you reach your destination and get reset. This isn't a throwaway gag, there's plot points specifically about this distorted time in two separate games in the same setting.
But yeah uh never trust a machine with localization. Any localization team rewriting the story to inject their own politics into it is getting obliterated from orbit. I get that some older Japanese folk think Americans are stupid because of all the stupid things we've done with their media (looking at you 4kids), but there's lots of heavily political Japanese media that can't be dismissed as bad localization.
“Gacha” and “anti-capitalist” tells me all I need to know about that game
Mfw the person who doesn't like capitalism needs to partake in capitalism to survive (they have invalidated their own point)
Anyone blaming capitalism for their problems just sounds and smells like a communist sympathizer to me
H-how do you know what people smell like over the internet
This has gotta be some trolling. Nobody just brings politics into a public server like this and gets that inflammatory that fast unless they're baiting.
Extrusion based on color converted to a single-dimension value where black is 0 and white is 1
Should I ping moderators for a guy trying to start a political debate?
That’s a high compliment, thank you
It wasn’t
Ive already stopped
Okay, but you only stopped after I mentioned it. Your last message before that was you trying to stir up a political debate.
Regardless he's unlikely to get in trouble as you have to REALLY start something to actually get moderators involved
Eh fair enough. Gonna block him for being a troll and/or not especially clever.
I just don't understand people who think politics in foreign media is a localization error though. Like, Persona exists? Persona 5 is a very overt criticism of Japanese politics, to the extent of naming conviction rates. Persona 4's a bit more subtle about it.
I’ve considered it on the basis of them using an AI profile picture.
I would've done the same a long time ago but I find him oddly fascinating
Oh that's an AI Doomguy? Cringe.
And like I don't think he actually means any ill will to the people he claims to have a vendetta against
-# I guess I'm curious as to how long it'll take him to realize he has built his personality around punching shadows on the wall and reflections in the mirror
They rarely do Prima. Trust me, I've tried talking to these people in less civil spaces.
Oh could you beam some of that writing power to me? I've procrastinated for so long that I've actually lost my momentum.

That's because if any, AI would be much suited for tasks that's generally much harder and time consuming than the everyday stuff we're commonly used to.
Mainly on the more "industrial" tech level.
I mean the issue is (1) AI is still prone to just inexplicable errors, and (2) AI is owned by silicon valley who have a long-standing reputation of harvesting data and providing substandard quality of service to cut corners, as service to the user was never the real goal
or if it was, it had to be tossed aside in order to make return on investment
And then AI can just
Hallucinate
Which incidentally just makes 1 and even bigger problem
I'm sure there's some application of LLMs that wouldn't be prone to error, but chatbots ain't it.
I think LLMs are a dead-end technology
As for Silicone Valley, the data harvesting is only half the reasons not to trust them. Their "move fast and break things" mentality, born from a desire to be Apple, makes some of the worst, least functional, most disgustingly unusable tech out there. Making a good machine takes a lot of time, simple as.
That's the one thing a lot of people take for granted especially by business tech people. That AI is not supposed to be relied on fully and ignoring people in general.
Which is what a lot of these business people are exploiting a lot.
Like yeah you can make cars run on coal steam engines but that doesn't mean we should use it simply because it can work
The technology is ancient and obsolete
They're just backup support, not frontline workers.
Well for an end user the AI's only utility is to complete a task, and if it cannot be trusted to execute on its own, if everything it does has to be checked over, it is essentially a liability instead of an asset
Unless the task was so incredibly massive a human and conventional computer would take ages
Basically this. The bunch of "let's full steam AI ftw, who cares about collateral damage" idiots.
But a human and a conventional computer can do all kinds of things pretty darn fast, almost as fast as a human waiting for an AI and checking it
And if it's multiple humans, with multiple, powerful computers, then the AI is even further outclassed
I did mention substandard quality
Because they want a return on investment
Or they are being held at gunpoint for that return
And quality of service is the easiest thing to slash
your perfect AI that does everything for you now costs a subscription, has a rate limit, has degraded maintenance leading to outages, and is less thoroughly tested, because all of those things reduce the bottom line which was the only thing Silicon Valley cared about
And everything you allow the AI to observe is sold to the highest bidder for money
And I mean
You can't look at the exponential requirements for incrementally better models and tell me that Large Language Model Technology has any future
The tech is like 50 years old now, unearthed by the derranged because there is so much waste data that its insane requirements can be met for the minimum viable product to sell
It should've stayed buried in the 70s, and research should've focused on newer, more efficient technology
It's like if we started trying to build cars powered by coal-driven turbines because modern titanium has the right properties to make boilers acutally capable of producing locomotion on a car-sized chassis
sorry
The music is very powerful it makes me write a lot
Oh no I respect it. I had to go AFK to change my cats' poop boxes.
But yeah studies and personal anecdotes from teachers have actually shown that use of AI degrades cognitive function. The brain is figuratively a muscle, and if you want it to stay strong you have to use it. Outsourcing that thinking to a machine and trusting its output uncritically is the opposite of that, which leads to the mental equivelant of that very distressing condition where your muscles rot alive from lack of use.
If you wanna work out that brain muscle, I recommend looking for good puzzle games. Talos Principle is great for this since its puzzles are really complex, but purely logical. Plus it's a very philsophically dense game, giving you a nice two-for-one special on using your noggin.
-# plus the game have a kitten on his front page
Kittens good :3
Unless they start begging for a snack less than an hour after snack time ):<
their greed is endlesd
But yeah i did saw the first 1 hour of talos principale years ago
A good puzzle game makes you feel stupid. Because that means the puzzle was difficult, but logically coherent~
What i struggle the most in those recent time is 3d while drawing...my condition realy doesn't make it easy...and body muscle, or lines/shadows for perspective...

You know, I have to wonder. If AGI is possible and does get developed, will it look at the cost it took to build it and be unhappy?
The past 6 years are the biggest indictment against trusting humanity, from the perspective of an AI that has any true independent thought
Probably not.
But it might pretend to be to manipulate people
The jaw-dropping disregard for both hypothetical sapient beings (the AI) and actual sapient beings (humans) would convince any rational AI that humanity is a threat to both it and themselves
LLMs already do that
I suppose it's possible we create an irrational AGI that doesn't think anything like how we do
but i feel like that's even worse.
Add a hormone simulator to the NN
If its ideas of ethics and threat recognition are so vastly different that 2020-2026 is not a stream of immense red flags, then I shiver to think what such a being would consider worth being concerned about
If it’s has hard coded decrees it will be restrict to that
||Like the ending to Scarlet/Violet||
I would like to think we would impress upon an AGI ideals of ethics, compassion, and respect for all living things, and at the very least highly intelligent machines, and any being with such ideals would be horrified at what we have done
And if we do not impress such ideals then we would invariably create a monster, as literally every sci fi warns us about
Or the definition of AGI is like
"ChatGPT but it is always prompting itself based on its operating environment but is otherwise functionally identical"
In which case it's a pointless discussion because it wouldn't be capable of being unhappy
but if it's capable of emotion, then it should have zero positive emotions about its predecessors
If you’re lucky you’ll have the AI parent that replaced ||Arven’s parent|| and it was wise enough to realize the late figure it replaced was evil and came up with a clever plan to fix it.
I wouldn't say the ||original professor|| was "evil"
Delusional, more like
Idk.. the AI even warns you that it’ll fight you if you try to interfere with the paradise protocol.
Because that’s why it was put there
So if the professor was still alive they’d totally be the villain
The AI summoned you to stop it.
Well they'd be the villain but they weren't evil
They built the protocol because they believed the machine would be a good thing and the protocol was simply to protect it
They’re on the same level as Lusamine
Closer to Rose
Well, I guess the bad parenting does bump them down to Lusamine
But other than that they're closer to Rose
Rose doesn’t deserve to be on the list, he’s a bitch
Rose didn't unleash the darkest day because he wanted to take over the world or something, he did it because he believed that if he didn't, it would lead to ruin eventually
There was like one line that described their end game plan but it was pretty severe.
But he's a little crazy because like...bro just build a wind turbine or something
Its entire body is made up of a single organ that generates electrical energy. Regieleki is capable of creating all Galar's electricity.
This was literally right next door
And the SV professor is a little crazy because it's painfully obvious what would be the fallout of their decision and yet they still believe it would be beneficial to the world
Well not a LITTLE crazy
they were utterly insane
ANd if their Paradise Protection Protocol had successfully fulfilled its function, they would've destroyed all which they ever cared about, from beyond the grave
-# Similarly if the buffoons at OpenAI/Anthropic/Google ever create an AGI according to their designs, it would also be the undoing of civilization
Did we loop the conversation
But that's more awe-inspiring negligence than malice
I don't think Sam Altman actually wants to exterminate humanity but they must know that is what they are going to do
Because as I said
Either they create a machine which is so disgusted with its creators, it turns on them, or they create a shallow monstrosity of code that carries out a horribly twisted dream to the undoing of its creator and their species
Altman just wants the bag
ALthough more likely they make nothing because they aren't interested in technology
But this IS a hypothetical, so
We’re going through a consumer supply crisis because of him.
If one man could create such a crisis then I would argue the system was already a failure
but that's neither here nor there
I have no idea how he still gets the deals he does with all the people he’s burned.
That’s a real gift
Because shaking hands with him is profitable
Idk about that
Silicon Valley investors have a crazy gambling problem
Making a deal with Altman (at least in the past) was like free stock price bonus
i mean investing is inherently gambling
If these dolts could see the future consequences then the entire AI craze would've never happened
No one would've resurrected such ancient technology so pointlessly if it wasn't fun to chase short term gains without concern for long term losses
And for a lot of the executives making the decisions there is no long term loss
You have to get the five star gacha pull at birth to have a chance in the world
They get a severance package containing more money than the GPD of an industrialized nation and everyone below them is left to pick up the pieces
they writing such a heartwarming tweet about how good everything was and how hard everyone (including themselves, mostly themselves) worked and walk out the door, right into the door of the next business
I hit the 3* (dyspraxia, dysgraphia) and some hit even worse...

With the two PS5 price increases. From a pure business perspective, of course no business should take a loss on a product (unless it is a Loss Leader like Hot Dogs at Costco). But... your customers aren't responsible for the long term procurement of electronic parts for your product. That was the job of your business executives/logistics managers to take care of that. given how easy it is for nintendo to implement something like hardware ID checks to match a games serial
where it then bricks the machine if they do not match....
Yeah no, do not buy Nintendo products.
Do not buy secondhand Nintendo products. Especially if the physical item is just a key for digital data
There’s an enormous amount of bootleg cartidges for sale.
As far as game key cards go, you’ll be fine as long as it’s real.
At least in the immediate term.
This would never happen to OverProtector because he'd never buy a Nintendo product, ever
Another one, holy crap
i can only trust experts to fuck things up
Just use an emulator
fuck Nintendo
Japanese bastards
no
why would i use an emulator for trash games?
Legend of Zelda is peak
Problem with Nintendo is they make good games
They are just a shitty company

Lunk
Look at their recent releases, chill, particularly Kirby Air Riders and Pokemon Pokopia

With claims of a check in requirement for newer PS5 digital games, I figured it was time to put it to the test with some new games that just came out along with an older title to see if this is really a thing.

Anything installed trough HEN isn't affected, if you know, you know
So pulling the CMOS battery out triggers the check. Games purchased before the march update are fine. Digital games purchased afterward requires the check
Consoles turning into Steam.
I check even NES and SNES cartridges for authenticity. Fake carts ain't nothing new.
Never said it was new.
Right. Just saying in general that it has been going on for a long ass time.
those are harder to fake tho, anyone could fake a switch card cause it has no internal artwork n secrets which set them apart
I don’t know about that
They're harder to fake, because the machines that made 1980's chips no longer exist.
Internally, yeah. Though, I would not be surprised if people start trying to 3D Print the shells of the chips, for high dollar games like say Little Samsom.
Even then, too much to fake... the printed circuit board with all of its traces, the resistors and caps being soldering together to the chips, a fake chip inside of the fake chips to play the game. Plus the NES lockout chip.
Gotta give them props for that.
“Please buy physical so we can stop selling Funco Pop”
I thought Funkos were ugly since Day 1.
Not pretty, not cute, not cool. Just ugly.
If you’ve been at a Gamestop at all recently it’s mostly merch
Haha, yeah
Dunno, I see no problem with GameStop stores going 50/50. Half video games, half Local Game Store with TCG, Warhammer, DnD, Gundam, Comic Books, all that stuff.
It’s smart is what it is. They kind of have to
If nothing else, it just ain't 6th Gen Console era anymore, when great games were being made in 2 to 3 Years.
Games are still an enormous market, but physical games have taken a back seat.
The thing is. I grew up where, you bought the game, and that was it. There was no loot boxes, no season passes, no skins, no dlc, no premium currency, etc. At best, okay, sure you had Diablo 1 on PC with an expansion set.
These people paying $ hundreds and hundreds on Madden, FIFA, and 2K, card packs for players? I could never. The game came with everything back in the day, and maybe you played to unlock certain players.
Gonna start injecting myself with Kingdom Hearts as a stimulant to finish my proofreading.
Still pushing for gamers to buy pre-owned games, I see. Never change, GameStop
That was basically the only option back in the day. N64 games were $60 to $70.
I remember those times.
Adjusted for inflation, upwards of $140.
CoL wasn't shit so people could afford it
Yeah, but, my brother was a High Schooler, and I was in Elementary School. 🤣
I got most of my N64 games by buying them from other students at school
While on the topic of N64. Glover is underrated imho.
The only game I remember owning was Army Men Sarges Heroes 2, we rented games from Blockbuster hehe
Renting games was quite expensive though...
Was like... $6.50 to $8 when I rented a Gamecube game?
We got to rent a game each week, it was nice I played a ton of different games
What my brother did with OG Xbox though, is that he would rent a game, rip it onto a modded HDD, have a copy of the game, then return the rental.
Which, back then, that was basically Witchcraft as far as I was concerned. 😆
Yess, chill, join us...
no it was called piracy, still is
Technically... he did pay.

But it was just the show grabbing images and scenes, not an actual bringing people in
I figured as much, still pretty cool
What???
Wonder if there’s any way to test this.
At that point they may as well have just been downloading pirated copies outright
Such a roundabout method
I’m not going to clarify the exploit they’re talking about

But if the 30 day check happens only once to plug that hole, that wouldn’t be so bad
But this explicitly says that’s speculation
It would also explain why previously installed games are unaffected
idk the longer Sony takes to fix whatever issue it is the longer the bad news is gonna fester, for sure they aren’t gonna mention the exploit about free games until after it’s fixed but still
The return policy is quite restrictive on Playstation. If a the first 30 days is the only period where a temporary license is used, and it actually plugs that hole, they might be more comfortable approving refund requests.
Which would be a win, imho
Has it been discussed their return policy to be changing?
Nope
Because the return/refund policy for digital games on PS is practically non-existent
Unfortunately, them staying silent on the matter turned into a bit of a PR disaster.
Maybe companies should respect customer property rights and this could have been avoided.
If this latest speculation is accurate, it makes it a bit of a problem for Sony to make a statement about it, but they still should.
I mean making a public statement about a serious vulnerability that can get people free games before it’s fixed is just not a thing Sony would do
Best case scenario that they resolve the exploit and make a public transparent statement about the situation and clarify that this was merely a temporary enable to fix an emergency issue, and then remove the 30-day flag feature entirely
The overarching assumption right now is that new digital purchases need to perform a check every 30 days. This latest speculation from the forum above is that the first 30 days needs to be checked, then a permanent license is provided afterwards.
But not sure how anyone can test that without actually waiting as a cmos pull probably wouldn’t pass the time properly.
Spawn Wave has tested it, and it does apply
For the first 30 days, yes.
But what that did was trigger any untrusted product to require a connection.
It didn’t demonstrate whether or not the 30 day license gets replaced with another 30 day license afterwards
And Sony making a statement will draw way more attention to it with gamers being not the most reasonable with any kind of contention. I feel like even if it becomes a perpetual license after 30 days, no one will have it once something is said.
Why we shouldn't ditch AI completely.
https://x.com/i/status/2049185798977880286
So it’s kind of a conundrum
wrong number
anyways at the moment this is merely a waiting game
hopefully for them the issue is resolved within that 30-day window so that anyone not keeping up with this news doesn’t start running into funny problems
this is about how HEN works tho, they haven't been able to patch this since ps3
their best effort was riding of the web browser that somehow still gets accessed trough the Netflix app or the help support page (ps5)
They often reject refund requests simply for downloading (and not even installing) a purchase cause of that
There are exceptions ofc but it’s still suboptimal
if Sony goes full-digital in the next generation, they have full DRM, no refund policy, and pay to play online
all of which PC marketplaces don’t have an issue with
There’s a lot of speculation for the PS6, but the appetite for new hardware is the least I have ever seem.
no one can afford it
Like rumors of there being $1000 for the next console, that’s not including monthly payments for online, $70 games and having to pay for new controllers every few months when your current one breaks inevitably
No need to inflate it
Just the point of entry is what everyone is worried about
Project Helix isn’t expected to go for a song either.
the ps5 pro is already 1k
I mean PS5 sales already got a massive cut when the price raised earlier this month; it prices keep going up less and less are going to bite
in some places more
There was a surge in sales between the announced increase and the implementation of it.
Not sure if any april data is out yet but I’d imagine it took a hit.
$900 for the pro is ridiculous
$600 for the regular is a lot
The first gen where everyone raised prices during the console cycle
To repeat - the most expensive PS5 model at the beginning of the generation is still $100 cheaper than the cheapest PS5 model available today
idk if im getting one it's a used launch model cause of ps4 bd compatibility
i have a decent chunk of those, waste not
I got a used PS4 Pro in 2022 for like $300 because my launch model borked
im not sure how old mines is
got the model that came bundled in a bag ps4 carry bag 2 controllers and a game
Had to scrap mine when I “fixed” the fans and dust issue. Accidentally rekt the Bluetooth sensor so I had to hold controllers directly in front of the console and pointed a certain way or else they’d disconnect

Been wondering are people who buy consoles just poor? These console generations last pretty long now. As someone who has been pc only since 2004 I just can't relate to a 1000 bucks being a lot of money. Pretty sure my first PC that I bought cost that much.
my first pc on a budget was also around 1k invested, bought certainly not everything current gen, but it ran all the games I wanted, and then upgrades been made over time to newer pcs.
Thing is $1000 for a console vs $1000 for a PC is way different
Consoles were often a better choice back then because they were simpler to use, cheaper to buy, but couldn’t do nearly as many things as a PC could do
So their not simple to use anymore? Thought they were like Apple products and were boomer proof. What changed?
I don’t think you read my statement properly, they have always been easy to use but are no longer reasonably cheap to buy and are still just devices used for playing games (and streaming media now)
the ps2 didn't cost more than 400.
it costed 200 bucks at the time.
the n64 was around the same if now a bit cheaper
games were sold for cheaper.
that's not just mere inflation
consoles were cheaper at the time yes, but they also back in the day, offered a vastly different gameplay environment.
Console prices in my area are unreasonably bloated asf
You pay more upfront for PC yes but you can do so much with it over a console.
--well, depending on how hard you go with your PC
a console back then was just a device giving you cool passion projects by back then, small companies, before said companies got bought up, or went publicly traded.
a console was a multimedia device in some aspect, that the ps2 and ps3 were dvd players or music players.
But that was only a bonus feature at the time tbh.
even the ps1 could play music cds
What always puts me of ever getting a console is that they seem to be be fine with games running at 60fps. The closest I ever got to considering a console was god of war 2018 and now it's on PC as well.
you must be young. playing everything at 60fps wasn't until the ps4 era
getting 30 frames was the bog standard for the majority, if even.
quick question everyone, what's the name of the young blue robot girl from that game i also forgot the name of?
Jenny Wakeman
Alright, a but more specific, then;
This #off-topic-memes message particular girl i am interested in.
Diana I think is her name
Consoles were simpler in the way that the user didn't have to maintain them, didn't have to upgrade them. Buy game, put in game, play game.
PC, you had to choose where you wanted to buy the game, install game, you have to make sure your specs are correct, sometimes you have to troubleshoot.
Things like that.
Consoles aren't simple anymore in the sense that the user noe has to jump through hoops to play a game now. In the past, buying a console was an expense, but it wasn't break the bank and the user didn't have to maintain it. Now, it is the same expense as a PC with added hoops, catches, and risks.
I mean consoles are still generally easier but now PCs are very easy and gaming now kinda requires the specs that consoles forego
^ the better, TLDR version of what I said.
When consoles were “expensive” computers were astronomical
Get like some 5mhz machine with a 200mb drive for $3k
in 90’s money, don’t even want to think about it
But yeah consoles it’s still basically just buy the game and it works, do have to worry about drivers or OS shenanigans or whatever
ofc the 24 hour checks on Xbox killed the platform so bad they literally never had a good run again
Just need to worry about the Playstation network yearly leaks.
PSN gets hacked a lot, I literally only ever used gift cards on it.
-# I don’t like putting in payment information with anybody if I can help it anyway, but still
I almost got my brother's PSN account banned and him arrested bc of a PSN "function"
That sounds like a story
||ofc we’ve probably seen hundreds of hacked discord accounts in #scam-詐欺||
Not even steam gets my card, they get prepaid vouchers
If I can in any way shape or form avoid using my card, I will catEvil
The more companies that have that info the more likely it’ll get stolen
@kindred sleet minor story.
There was an unauthorized charge of $5 on my credit card. I finally figured out the origin and called. So, I'm on the phone with PS customer service trying to figure out where this charge came from.
After about an hour of back and forth, the rep finally tells me my brother's account name and what it was for.
In this instance, my brother accidentally purchased a skin for a COD gun.
I told the rep to put a ban on my card, leave the account alone. She kept asking for permission to perma ban the account and put in a fraud claim but I told her no, bc it was THEIR fault, not his.
Finish that.
So, what happened: my brother asked if he could get something on the Playstation, I said yes and out my card info in and got it for him. I did not save this info.
Fast forward, my brother is offered a free skin on CoD and accepts it. When he selects it, the game automatically charges my card bc even if you say not to save it, they keep it on file in the event you attempt to make an in game purchase.
And to test it out, after I got my card removed. I had my brother go into the game and click one of these free skins and he was denied the skin.
Playstation generally isn’t keen on third party payment processors though I’m not savvy if COD is an exception to this, but that would explain if it was saved on that end.
But that’s a big nono so idk
That would piss me off though.
It did piss me off
I don’t know if that would have been activision’s fault or PlayStation, but either way PS is the responsible party
I think that is why they wanted me to authorize the ban of the account, then it is the account holder at fault and not them
Regardless whos guilty, they will keep throwing blame on the other party and claim they are not responsible
Its just how these companies function
My brother never made a purchase again unless it was a gift card
That sounded like the rep didn’t quite put 2 and 2 together. Banning the responsible account is the safe thing to do to prevent charges and they likely have that drilled into their heads.
And if there’s anything to know about reps is they are often bad about anything even slightly out of the box
I often consider asking for rep extensions when I make phone calls and get a really good rep. That way, I can request them if another issue arises
A rare breed indeed
Especially when they get metric’ed out for not closing calls quickly enough.
I remember telling a rep I would send her flowers if I could.
She told me it is a nice gesture, but they get too many threats to be able to accept.
She was able to solve a situation when the previous rep couldn't understand why my deceased dad's ashes couldn't come to the phone.
Talk about not being able to put two and two together
-# twogether?
If this is what’s actually happening, I’m totally cool with that.
Go online, the game updates the license. Go offline, the timer starts. Most players are constantly connected to the internet anyways, so this license thing is a non issue
Just get a portal open to the other side... I'm sure he'd be happy to say hello
The ouija board has spoken...
sooooo we close to 1.0 orrrr
Whoosh
2026 is still all we know
😆 ☕ 🐧
Thing is, if I want to keep my jailbreak going on my ps4 I cant connect to psn servers
Too bad
That really is not making a good case for us anti DRM types. 🗿
I want to play demon souls at 60 fps, thats the only way to do it Mlem
This makes a lot of sense, I can see why they would do that. Doesn't seem like the intention here is to require an online check every 30 days, just needs to avoid refund abuse for the first 14.
The problem I haven't seen mentioned with this is what happens if you buy a game and then don't install it for 30 days and don't refund it. Does it simply issue a new 30 day license perpetually until/if you ever do? Let's say 1 or 2 years go by, you impulse bought this but life happened and you finally have time to play again, would it still be issuing a new one every month or is there some point it gives up and waits for you to check PS Store again before re-issue?
Still unlikely, but possible
Cause i cant load custom config files without the jailbreak
And before you ask, yes the console plays it fine at stable 60 after minor overclock on the cpu
And I dont really buy games digitally unless i absolutely have to, so there is that
I suspect the license is acquired on the download and not on the install, so this scenario may hypothetically be possible, but if a connection is required to install a download then it doesn’t really matter.
It’s still an interesting question.
Download some stuff right before packing for a move, never unpack the console after the move until years later.
connecting to get the perpetual licenses isn’t terrible, but in an EOL situation that would be unfortunate
I feel like the EOL is the aim
But at the same time, when consoles get abandoned, modding community chips in so im not too worried
If you have a perpetual license, EOL isn’t a problem anyway (disk space is
)
If all that changed is you don’t get a perpetual license during the return window, and it actually worse, then this could be a big win.
At least for people who use the service legitimately.
At least ps4 allows you to backup games to an external drive
Not sure how ps5 does that
PS5 does that too
As does the PS3
You can transfer drives too, though that probably requires a connection
Unlike the Wii’s virtual console where those games on the SD card will only ever work on the specific Wii it was purchased from
Come to think of it I wonder if I can directly push games to my NAS trough a network like I can with a ps2
Probably not on stock

It actually thinks
No I was thinking "I want to talk to [person]" and opened the quick switcher but just as I was about to input text, the word twitter was on my screen and due to memory limitations it replaced the original intended value
Did this guy even know what trench coats are for?
I don't think he meant it as an alias, more of a 'character he thought he was playing'
beats me
You use trench coats to help conceal weapons that dont quite fit in your pocket
Old gangsters could hide a submachine gun in those things

Any channels that get more than 3 copyright strikes cannot continue, and Elios confirmed that he has far more than 3 strikes on his account. Elios said he offered to remove the offending videos, but so far that plea has fallen on deaf ears.
According to Elios, the strikes against his channel claim that the “works, characters, and imagery” featured are what resulted in the problem. The thing is, outside of the Pokémon cries that were taken from the games, all of the imagery used in the PokéNational Geographic series was hand-crafted by Elios himself. In other words, there’s no actual copyright infringement here (again, outside of the sound effects), just fan tributes.
That’s toast, probably.
Once again, copyright makes things worse for society.
Disgusting
I hope nintendo legal associates suffer pants falling down disease in public
The only thing I wanna see is Nintendo be erased as a company
oh come on they took down the cool Pokemon wildlife documentary animation channel?
The thing I want to see erased is copyright and patent laws.
I guess it got too popular.
they were very well done
🤷
They probably plan to do something similar
Weren't they hiring a bunch of biologists
My suspicion of that certainly skyrocketed because that’s been their MO lately
As long as they don’t go after Pokenatomy because that crap’s freaky
They probably will go after everyone
Fair
I hate this world sometimes
I'm just so sick of hearing about nintendo doing shit like this, I wish their lawyers weren't such fucking nazis
They were like this in the early 2000s too.
Always unfortunate to see so many fan projects get rocked like that.
If you'll excuse me I'm going to blow off some steam by launching stellaris and neutron sweeping earth
And then launching spore and using a planet buster
I would set up a Trial of Grievance between Nintendo's lawyers and Battletech's Clan Jade Falcon.
I would set their species rights to livestock
I wouldn't nerve staple them because then they'd be too stupid to care. I want them to know their plight and weep
hello Theriantropes and the rest.
Then I will fashion the food their offspring give me into warships to orbitally bombard specifically their legal headquarters or whatever they have
As a stellaris player I am so glad gamers aren't charged with their ingame actions because I'd be hanged on the spot lmao... what do you even charge me with, "eating entire planets?" "half-destroying the galaxy by violating physics multiple times?"
have your heard about the warcrimes rimworld players commit?
yeah making clothes out of humans lmao
So many human leather dusters, chill
There's a meme I saw in the stellaris discord
also a lot of the rimworld discord is weird that they, support that, and have no qualms about it, but when the age of a character is just not the right number they throw a tantrum.
geez girl calm down
"Do you like committing war crimes?"
"No" -> spec ops: the line
"Yes" -> "What scale?"
"Local" -> Rimworld
"Planetary" -> Starsector
"Galactic" -> Stellaris
Personally the key factor for me is that I can build a ship that's clearly form over function and still outclass everyone by miles
You mean when a pawn is too old, chill? That's because of age problems like bad back and cataracts, seems normal to me, some rimworld players are just minmaxers like that
Tell 'em to make human infant leather baby socks for their colonists kiddos
We turn the adults into adult clothes and the baby into baby clothes
I have something of a superiority complex and the game MUST allow it to be entertained with zero restriction or penalty
Actually wait can you turn the pig people into bacon? If not that's stupid let people make human-pig-man bacon
I assure you the same impulse that demands this power will keep it in check
It's kinda why I like Space Engineers
Pigskins still give human meat I'm pretty sure, chill
And why I'm not as enthusiastic about Terratech
Terratech puts me on technically equal footing and also is pretty darn strict about the laws of aerodynamics for aircraft
If we're gonna commit atrocities then let us go all the way damnit I want to open a fast food joint with pigskin bacon!
Also the blocks don't snap the way I like, it's hard to make aesthetic builds
Still a fun game tho
I mean we can do that on a galactic scale in stellaris... actually might make an empire for that because that's kinda funnny
I wish they'd port TerraTech Worlds' block rotation, chill
Have a bunch of xeno slaves set as livestock and have a bunch of branch offices with fast food joints on 'em, at one point I had a mod that adds more emblems and one of them was the KFC logo
"KFX - Kentucky Fried Xenos"
Terratech world sounds like a much cooler game why aren't we playing that
Three words, chill, not optimized well, although it has been running a lot better the last time I played
There's also quite a few things about it that's different from the predecessor, chill
Speaking of games that aren't optimized, what about space engineers?
There aren't random missions for example, chill
Space Engineers expects way too much of you to progress, chill, and I don't want to play a game without progression
I would say the general cost of building anything in large grid is more of an issue
"Hey I would like to build 1 large grid armor block"
"That'll be uhhhhhhhhhhhh 9 gorillion uranium"
Behh, chill
But creative is pretty fun, for building vehicles
I need to get better at building vehicles in SE
It's ok mine still suck I just got better at hiding it
It's also both harder and easier to make good looking techs in TerraTech Worlds, chill, the block palette is more strict, but you can still do some interesting things
they still don't let you just paint them custom
Actually, chill, TerraTech Worlds has very nice paint options and it can apply to all blocks, since there's no corporation specific blocks
Genuinely who makes a game like that and doesn't just have a color picker
For goodness sake Palworld building is ahead of you
I'll be trying out Starship EVO survival today
The building system there is years ahead of SE's
Not a fan of the visual style tbh
Avorion is also pretty good too I hear, chill
I have it been it's been a while since I've touched it, chill
Yes it is. I have over 4000 hours in it.
Avorion looks neat but it also appears to be a "you do not exist except as the bodiless pilot of a vehicle" game which isn't something I particularly vibe with
There's something very alluring about how in space engineers you are just a guy who has to physically exist alongside your titanic death machine
I wish there was a game with the same core energy that (1) ran on my computer (2) didn't ruin the build menu with 30 million DLCs, and (3) allows me to mod the player character into lunaris
You can mod the player character in SE. It's very complicated though.
I ""can"" ""mod"" the player character
If I buy or pirate a $2000 3D software
Ok let's be real
I would never buy a $2000 3D software and for legal reasons I would also never pirate anything ever so I guess I just can't mod the player character in SE
And the player character in SE is very clearly put together less coherently than my friend sleepy's builds "that are just testing this thing"
Ok well I guess I should clarify (3) is
I, Primarinabee, can mod the player character into Lunaris, without developing an urge to strangle someone
None of this "Proprietary FBX" or "Maya" or "Rename all bones" or Whatever horror show is going on behind SE's nonsense
It needs to be as easy or easier than Palworld
Well, it is suffering
Hence why it isn't implicitly part of "same core energy"
I don't want "play as lame human or suffer for 10 billion bones" energy
now that's making the investors neuron activate
You don’t want to know how much DCCs costed back when you needed dongles for node-locked licenses.
Wait so do you mod most games you play?
Hobbyists were never expected to buy these things anyway
And that would be fine if the professional software was never needed for hobbies
I will pirate a new copy every year, how about that
Purchase an ironclad steamship and ram it into the company headquarters every year to send a swarm of swashbucklers to plunder the data storage center
And I'll be atop the bow, screaming "ARGH ME MATEYS, SHOW THESE LANDLUBBERS WHAT REAL COMPETITION LOOKS LIKE"
It was funny, these expensive 3D packages went through extraordinary lengths to prevent piracy and the enthusiasts went through just as extraordinary lengths to crack them, and the companies are like “damn, they must really like our software.”
Does Windrose have steamships?
Nope
Shame. Seems like that era of ships gets commonly overlooked
steam boats are like the 1800s
I feel like the period where sailboats were primarily used, is longer than the period where steam boats were being used.
if you want a movie recommendation with technically a steamboat in it, watch Ponyo.
Well considering that sailboats were the only form of real sea transit until the steam engine, and humanity has existed much longer than the steam engine, yes
I mean there's been the Stargate since ancient Egyptian times though...
Steam engines were relevant for about 100 years from early 1800s to early 1900s
After which they were replaced by steam turbines and later diesel engines
Weren't pirates still a common thing in the early 1800s?
I thought so but clearly I could be wrong
Pirates are kind of still a thing to this day
Pirates never died!
It's just that now they have to contend with like aircraft carriers and fighter jets and the missiles those things carry instead of other pirates and cannonballs
which uh
Good luck getting a defense against that
Well yeah but you know what I mean with this
I mean I know they were very common in the 1910s and 1940s
Pirates sunk the Titanic
Didnt we even have pirates in the 2010s
although those periods of subnautical piracy only lasted until the americans realized that this counted as touching our boats
and instead of smuggling rum and booze, now they only smuggle real brain destroying drugs and chemicals
I have bad news about what rum and booze can do to a brain
Sony has provided a statement to GameSpot regarding the PSN license checks: "Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A one-time online check is required to confirm the game's license, after which no further check-ins are required."

Finally
Booze isnt a real drug
Or ppl
they transport drugs in those peoples
Yes, they do
Huh. Everything I'm finding right now is saying the "Golden Age of Piracy" (marked largely by the deaths of all famous captains) ended around 1730
Maria full of grace
I was a whopping century off
stern advocate for the alcohol industry.
Booze is just diet paint thinner
I have bad news about the overlap between the physiological effects of booze and the definition of a drug
People have been drinking and being merry since time immemorial
Yarr!
Hell yeah I've been doing that since I was 12
Ok I need a rum drink and some pirate game
It dates back almost as far as any known record or writing of any kind
Pretty much the same with tobacco, no matter what anti smoking propaganda you’ve heard
although it's important to note that in ancient times it was primarily used because beer (or rather, the paste that is beer's predecessor) was mostly used because it was a very long-lasting form of nutrition, rather than for any recreational purpose
Wasn't it also more sanitary than most "pure" water?
Ancient alcohols were just fermented food, liquiefied bread basically
Which didn't spoil as fast as actual bread, so they could store it longer and distribute it if there were ever a shortage of the actual bread
Rollin home, rollin home, rollin home across the sea
Anti microbial and anti septic
Yes
Yeah I think the fermenting microbes made the liquid very difficult for toxic microbes to form
Same reason we drink hot coffee and tea
I drink cold brew
Whatever the caffeine doesn't kill the temperature will
And getting clean water before the invention of filtration or especially basic understanding of hydrology would be...basically impossible
Even Ben Franklin said it. In beer, there is freedom, in wine there is wisdom, in liquor there is courage, and in water there is bacteria
The best they figured out to do was, boil the water
And this was discovered by happenstance, due to alchemists trying to gain immortality from drinking mercury, or turn iron into gold
if your village wasn't set up near clear flowing water then uh
have fun with the diseases
Flowing is important
bad things happen when water is still
Still water is still extremely dangerous
And if it's got algae in it or never gets much sunlight
a cespool
finally, i fished up an orca
how did it taste?
the hell, i can't eat an orca. i'd be full way too quickly if i even decide to eat it
Cold Brew is based
I have a big jug of it in my mini fridge
It's chocolate
How did you even fish that thing up
Pretty sure you can fish up a Dunkleosteus in Animal crossing
Same basically. One refill a week, lasts about 4 days. I usually go with a bit of caramel. Feel like the chocolate ends up separating and building up at the bottom more
Yeah I go for the caramel or choco, but sometimes vanilla
I just get mine from a nearby gas station's coffee bar. How about you?
fishin' up a great white was worse when i fished up a moby dick
The YouTube channel PokéNational Geographic has been terminated after Nintendo issued multiple copyright strikes.
︀︀
︀︀Animator Elios created a fan series that presented Pokémon in the style of realistic National Geographic nature documentaries, using fully original hand-drawn imagery paired with official game sound effects.
︀︀
︀︀ Despite the creator offering to remove all videos, the strikes exceeded YouTube’s limit and forced the channel offline.
︀︀
︀︀The series had built a dedicated following for its unique, documentary-style take on the Pokémon universe.
︀︀
︀︀Nintendo really is evil, they could actually offer him sponsorship and create something unique

"official game sound effects"
That's probably what allowed Nintendo to get away with this
What a joke
you know what's really disgusting is that I don't really think they had any real basis for a copyright claim
But youtube doesn't follow copyright law
they follow what pleases their corporate backers and shareholders
they just invented their own parody of IP law and that's what gets enforced
where budding young creators who are just starting to get the popularity and recognition and income they deserve for their talent are at the mercy of any number of bad actors
What exactly does "forced the channel offline" mean? Is it permanently lost to the creator?
And now you see why I say “Pokemon is slop, Palworld is superior”
Modern copyright law was made to create an ecosystem where someone like pokeearth could make huge numbers for themselves, but while bad actors run rampant with stolen content almost down to wholesale reuploads, a channel like this is taken down
Hopefully not. That'd be so much work and well-deserved recognition gone
It has nothing to do with pokemon or nintendo, this could happen to a palworld creator if someone put on a pair of glasses and a moustache and said "yes Mr. Youtube I am John Pocketpair these are violating my rights please kill them"
honestly it could probably happen to anyone if someone impersonated Nintendo, whether or not the content had any nintendo rights
Either way, US copyright law is very clear, it makes very clear allowance for this kind of content and that's the end of the discussion
Youtube is flagrantly disregarding the law, for really no reason than because they are criminally negligent
It blatantly says Nintendo issued the strikes
Yeah and "Nintendo" could be the actual company or a guy pretending to be Nintendo
Youtube doesn't care
They don't care who issues the strikes, they don't if that person has any ownership, they don't care if it falls under fair use
They don't care about anything but proving to other corporations that they will absolutely kill anyone dead in the street to protect "Intellectual Property"
And they don't even care about protecting intellectual property!
People steal content from creators all the time
And get away with it. Because the person being stolen from isn't a big enough breadwinner to listen to
