The point of a reference is to understand why a thing looks the way it does so you can put your own unique spin on it, like Anor Londo from Dark Souls being based on a real cathedral. Since an AI doesn't deliver the same information as an original reference, the end product will come out diluted.

I think at this point, thinking a game-dev or software engineer or graphic design job is a safe career path is futile, have to accept that it's a highly volatile path that is more akin to contract work and not a dedicated position you're put into the company for.
I would assume the job contracts reflect that, but they are never shown as far as I know, we are just told it happened out of nowhere.

Which is why you gotta double check before doing it and use your own AI instead from those corporate, nothing wrong to go in "traditional" way without AI, is just its gonna be headache finding what code causing performance/glitch issue in first place, or taking very very long time for consumer to wait, each has its own bad thing, damn if you do, damn if you don't 🤷♂️

There are just tools that turn your code into more trimmed down versions still readable by the engine, that doesn't need AI since it's just a matter of converting more letters into less letters with the same meaning as what you wrote for code.
The main reason games are badly optimised is so called coding debt, devs creating small problems, that stack on top of each other creating jarry rigged systems with duct tape instead of just robust systems that work well together.
But that's just on the coding side, the main reason is mostly texture sizes, and not good LoD and just adding things to the game that hog resources without gaining actually anything.

I highly recommend. I've never been a fan of "cozy games" but this game's design is so good that I'm 90 hours in, have only been to 2 zones other than the starting area, and there's still so much to do. Also the Minecraft comparisons make a lot of sense, but it's even better because now you can build, for example, a fancy community pool to make the residents happy instead of having apathetic villagers

World is in my humble brag opinion, better than Wilds in terms of map design and feeling immersed in the 'world' you hunt in.
With Wilds the creator just went way too overboard trying to create an ecosystem simulator, but didn't at all make what you hunt feel special or grand.
World feels better in that regard.
That ecosystem in Wilds is also the main reason why the game's chugging on every system, because it has to constantly keep up with AI behavior of anything that moves basically, it's way too much for a game where 90% of the time you're just focused on hunting a monster, and where the monsters mostly move in predictable patterns anyways.
