I am all for uses with AI that benefit society as a whole. Google created an AI a while back to research the best crystalline structures for uses in solid state batteries. After a few days, it whittled down the combinations until it was left with 5 promising candidates. This is the kind of AI usage I will get behind all the way.

What I will not get behind is the usage of AI to dumb down people (ChatGPT), replace human workers for inferior quality (Duolingo and so may more), making a mockery out of artistic style (Nvidia DLSS5), Spying and profiling people (which a lot of governments are doing), and having the ability to make the jobs of bad actors easier (too many examples to count). Let's not forget it has a very high error rate, and when it goes wrong, it fails spectacularly.

AI is an impressive technology, but it is implemented in far too many ways that detracts from society even down to the individual level, taking their critical thinking and throwing it out the window. To this, I say "I would like to keep using my brain, thank you very much."

Like those crime statistics are the result of a subconscious bias in police that led to disproportionate recognition of activity in one area, and when it gets flattened into summarized statsitics, the gap in monitoring becomes an anomalous sinkhole in data which requires a very keen eye to spot as what it is
