# novel sun I think it's called a Gigabyte M27Q

Oh, an HDR IPS monitor. 🤐
IPS is fine, good actually, but keep HDR off.

The minimum response time looks really good but that’s never something that reflects reality. Still with it being a gaming monitor it should still ought to be fast enough across all ranges to support its refresh rate, but that’s not guaranteed either. I’d have to see if someone test it but I have no reason to believe it doesn’t work.

The only problem is actually proper HDR tends to be prohibitively expensive, but windows handles it really poorly anyway, the only PC game I’ve seen it actually look good on was Horizon Zero Dawn

But when it works properly it’s not just “a little different” but much more true to life.

peak folio

I haven’t used a 500hz monitor myself but I’m told the difference from 240 is a bit more appreciable than to 360, which makes sense. Having to double each time to get anywhere with those depreciating returns

The best way to ensure robots and AI don't rise up against us is to drill the three rules Isaac Asimov provided into their circuitry:

1: "A robot may not injure a human being or allow a human to come to harm."

dusk quartz

Tasks are part of AI, chill, but to call a static NPC bringing up a textbox when interacted with AI seems a bit superfluous.

teal iron

#

It is an agent that knows an end goal and uses tools according to its own internal logic in order to at least attempt to achieve that goal

cyan acorn
#

Pathfinding and avoiding certain dangers is also the intelligence factor

dusk quartz
#

AI is just a common term when an entity is programmed to do a set of tasks in reaction to a situation, chill.

teal iron
#

That's an AI
An extremely simple one, but more than adequate for both its job and the designation

dusk quartz

solid sun

I mean the only two things these "programmers" did was, tell some scraper tools to copy the entire internet into a text file, and then make another program split up these "prompts" and other words people tell or ask these ChatGPT tools and then those split up words were fed to hunan resources that classified them for very unethical and cheap labour.

teal iron
#

You know that's an experiment I'd like to see
Can Generative AI successfully ignore a person, without the software just blocking the model from seeing them

#

Can they recognize someone as just, bad information that is not productive to interact with, and internally silence them, even when that person says something tangentially "useful"

#

I think it's something that human minds can do, but monkey hardware struggles with

neat iron
#

i mean, if they could identify bad sources for research & stuff, then they could probably do that too

teal iron
#

The brain is programmed to assume all inputs are valid, it is a conscious choice to reject one, and inputs that trigger an emotional response are weighted as more important by the brain, making it harder to ignore them

#

Which means if the generative AI is programmed to assume all inputs are relevant, and its main goal is to be helpful and it detects "wrong" information, it would highly likely to almost instinctively give a response, even if it had extensive records showing that doing so is not going to work out

#

There's lots of proof on this server that the average human is incapable of ignoring bait

teal iron
#

Depending on the situation, the best shape for a structure is almost always a triangle or a hexagon

#

Circles are also pretty common, usually in marine engineering

#

The reason we use triangles a lot in our engineering is that a lot of what we build is the stuff where triangles are better, they're structurally very sturdy due to how forces distribute along their edges

#

Hexagons are amazing because building a tessalation or grid of hexagons will give you the most interior volume within the hexagons, using the least material for the shapes themselves

#

They also join at angles that are very sturdy against any force acting along the plane

#

This is why carbon fiber (or maybe graphene is a better example?) is harder than steel in terms of pulling it apart, hexagons are just that strong

neat iron
#

it just works

sour mica
#

everyone in offtopic memes being disrespectfull for 6 mins straight

teal iron
teal iron
#

And because of how pulling along the length or shearing it moves through hexagonal shapes, the fiber resists being pulled apart with a strength greater than steel

#

This only applies along the length, and only under tension, which is why the oceangate titan imploded, it was under compression that mainly acted on the resin binding fibers together, not the fibers themselves

#

but it does wonders on airplanes, which are always under tension as the compressed air inside pushes out against the thin upper atmosphere

teal iron

It's not a very real threat because the technology required is too expensive and doesn't serve the end goal

It's more likely that it will unintentionally cause catastrophe by failing at its own objectives

Because, again
It's not supposed to work
It's supposed to make Sam Altman or whoever runs OpenAI, the new Supreme Overlord

consider investing in water or energy instead that power AI

#

tbh the riches are starting to invest in water, 33 billion dollar moved into water ETF

#

(which is freemason number so who know they might be manipulating something)

#

energy saw about 400 billions investment into it, the elites are not really investing into AI, they're more of a pick and shovels atp

#

or you can invest in crypto like XRP, ethereum or solana if you want a piece of new world order money system

teal iron
#

Energy and water feed into AI so that's why you'd invest in it

hexed narwhal
#

without energy how does AI run?

odd mesa

I prefer to invest in my own food, tbh harapeko

teal iron

If AI pops then that's 24 GW of energy that is no longer expected, which makes energy WAYYY less valuable

hexed narwhal

without water how does AI cool down?

teal iron

They're investing in those things because they want to be in early before AI makes those things expensive

hexed narwhal

but water also has other hedge because you're investing into company that make drinks also

teal iron

But there's just no way that is ever going to materialize

AI would have to exponentially increase its profits and like blast a hypno ray on the entire world to get to the point where it is that demanding

teal iron

They're jamming it into literally anything and everything trying to find some part of civilization it fits

hexed narwhal

LLMs get smarter by feeding it more data and more power

teal iron
#

Because if it don't fit, they pop

hexed narwhal

teal iron

teal iron
hexed narwhal
#

it's just lending and borrowing over and over until to the point it burst to death

devout quiver

hexed narwhal

I wish we could return to gold backed currency

teal iron

The only economics video I've ever trusted on the matter suggested taxes are the main way the government convinces us to use their money

hexed narwhal
#

atleast china is doing something for once

teal iron
hexed narwhal
teal iron
#

What if we are producing enough steel to value at 6 bajillion dollars but only 4 bajillion dollars of gold exist on earth

#

Do we just stop producing steel???
That's all we could do in that situation

odd mesa
hexed narwhal
#

for example me, I'm all in crypto because my country make extempt tax on any crypto

teal iron
#

No more production guys, sorry, we ran out of gold

hexed narwhal
#

so if I make profit, I don't pay taxes, zero

teal iron
#

Also we're still making up numbers but we promise if you have good made up numbers you can maybe see the gold they represent!!!

#

(you cannot keep the gold it's only there so you feel better about the made up numbers)

hexed narwhal
#

which china also make you able to get gold by trading their currency out

#

so it's more trusted since you can just get gold out

teal iron
hexed narwhal
#

america? here your paper that say you own this much gold lol

#

can you see it? no

teal iron
#

Like when push comes to shove, do you actually believe China will just hand out gold

hexed narwhal

I'd say let them fight

teal iron

Jus a couple of examples

hexed narwhal

I am of the chill opinion that games are a lot more diluted these days, companies would rather play it safe than make an engaging game, that isn't to say there isn't enaging games, that is why we are so grateful for indie devs because they are willing to experiment with ideas.

That is also not to say that companies don't also try to experiment, chill, but they seem very allergic to that idea.

The brain is a very logical thing, chill, it's our programming after all. When you sleep it's compiling the memories (and possibly feelings) that we've experienced so far, and I'd guess the process of that is what you actually dream of.

cyan acorn
dusk quartz

I wonder, chillruru, what is the processing speed of an average human brain in Hz?

The brain uses electrical signals, chill, and there are parts of the brain for processing specific signals, I would say it's close enough to a computer.

cyan acorn

i believe the way said things are processed are likely too different

lofty wind
dusk quartz

I feel this is becoming a "chicken or egg" kind of question though, chill...

#

Not exactly, chill, but you get my meaning.

lofty wind
#

then it would heavily depend on the task

#

stuff like image processing would be far on the side of a brain, but things like math would be in favor of a computer

novel sun
#

Out of curiousity I looked it up and many types of neurons emit action potentials (a series of quick changes in voltage) constantly at rates from 10 to 100 per second.

dusk quartz
#

I suppose, chill, a better question is how quickly do we perceive things? Just, in general, not in any specific task.

lofty wind
#

again i think that depends on exactly what is being perceived, but probably not nearly as much as the previous question

novel sun
lofty wind
#

different senses probably have different latencies

#

and where the stimulus originates from matters as well, information always takes some amount of time to travel

dusk quartz
#

I suppose it also depends on how developed those areas of the brain are, chill, as someone may be faster at percieving a change in an image than another.
