on a serious note though, shows like catch a predator actually had really bad success rates, and independant stings often have even worse results, again because proper procedure isnt followed.

it's too easy for them to just pull the "oh i thought they were roleplaying" defence which grants them a defence under lack of mens rea

its why on the show, a key part was to have an actual minor at the meetup; often when actually confronted with a minor face to face, many of them backed out on the spot citing "not realising they were actually" (usually a full clear) or chickening out when put on the spot (partial to full clear)

its why vigilantism is illegal; often for vigiliantes "im pretty sure they did it" is enough

I think a "Gaming Recession" is coming. Not a crash. You have to really understand what was going on with the 1983 crash. Video games were still very new, they had no stronghold in society whatsoever yet. The main reason of course for the crash, was because of tons of very-low quality games being released. But again, gaming wasn't even a true hobby at that point, that shit was merely a novelty. Nintendo came out with the NES, and most importantly their Seal of Quality, which gave their word that games licensed to be released on the NES would be of good quality. Which, that's just their word, they still had to deliver a track record, which they did by the end of the NES's lifespan.

Ran into a similar situation when I got my Dreamcast later. "Why do you need a memory card?"

N64 needed memory cards too which was odd for a cartridge based system.

The difference is that the VMU was expensive as hell.

Ofc playing Turok while swapping the rumble pack for the memory card and back every time you wanted to save was certainly an experience.

No, definitely not the first party one.

The Dreamcast solved this by having two slots in the controller.

The GameCube solved this by integrating rumble into the controller, and also having a good controller in general

Sadly it wasn't for a lot of flagship games. You needed some kind of memory card.
