Fast mod o.o
What kind of spam link was that?
The current trend
Mr.beasts is a fraud. Don’t believe everything you see online
People thinking if they give their bank account number to a random website, thaf Mr. Beast will deposit money into it
he will
Based on the commercials that come up for his shows, I could see him seeing the scam trend and making a gameshow of it and "then" depositing money into select accounts based on criteria for the show.
If he actually puts any money
Iv heard a lot of people that won struggle to get money out
I’ve heard that bank flagged it as suspicious activity and will put your account on a hold and need multiple verification to get any money out.
I can believe it after seeing how the show looked to be set up.
That is definitely more than likely to happen
just like a real online casino
the voice actor for james from the pokemon anime died ;-;
He was a bunch of voices for it, yea
The women are part of a broader effort by Client Partners, a company founded in 2011 that focuses on providing “women-only handyman” services across Japan.
OK Obaachan’s site highlights an incredible variety of requests: penmanship for formal letters, dispute mediation, and simply having someone to talk to.
Am I crazy or is this actually kind of wholesome?
On one hand, I can see why you think that. Older women who might not be able to do other things can use their kindness to make others feel better.
On the other hand, it struck me as kind of sad because the fact that paid stuff like that is common now is a testament to how natural relationships, familial and otherwise, have either broken or don't even get to form
Right?
There a sort of instinctual initial reaction where I should believe there is something fundamentally wrong about the concept of a rent-a-granny, but… as a solution to some of the realities today where people need access to wisdom more than ever…. 🤔

What is the drama about
Morning
Ah man what a load of crap
Player protection

"Requiring games to run on private servers"
Bruh
People make server architecture to work with the game
They develop whole server setups and software
Emulating
So much corporate bs cope
I am unsure as to why youtube seems to be systematically removed here now
What
It's very ironic that the mega layoff companies cite job loss as an argument against their own regulation
Like yeah I bet you guys know a thing or two about firing people
Got a lot of experience in that department
The people sitting in offices that write these things do very little all day and weigh 400lb
Chain smoke large cigars
Yeah idk I posted a remix or two but they got removed. Not sure why either.
I've seen them, suits that are bursting at seams, smoking a cigar the width of a rolling pin, grumbling about having to pay anyone to work and hoping one day the Internet works entirely for them
I, too, enjoy envisioning people as "undesirable" stereotypes to justify hating them
Executives often fit the stereotypes
How many executives have you personally met
That entire article screams "out of touch"
Well that's because it was ai generated probably
No human touched it
Personally, none, the public figures that talk openly are roughly the same
So you have .... extremely shallow evidence to support your fantastical stereotypes of what an executive looks like
Dave Ramsey, Bobby Kotick, they are all collosal douches
If by shallow.evidence, you mean everything Activision has done in the last 30 years
I hate business executives as much as the next girl but I know bad stereotypes when I see em
All the studios eagames have brought and shut down
And this proves that they are overweight and smoke enormous cigars ....how?
Executives are very stereotypical, some of them in the public eye openly say what they are thinking
And they look exactly how you would imagine
It's weird to see people arguing with each other about how their enemies look like
"We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."
"I think we definitely have been able to instill the culture, the skepticism and pessimism and fear that you should have in an economy like we are in today. And so, while generally people talk about the recession, we are pretty good at keeping people focused on the deep depression
My apologies for the annoying part, didn't know websites can add their own bits to copy and paste
They are truly evil people
If they were posted in #videos-動画 or the like, I believe they have to be related to pocketpair games.
Remember kids, it's not doubling down if you're correct.
Unfortunately, you're not correct if it's doubling down
well fortunately, that is not my take on what doubling down means.
What's everyone's favorite nail polish colour?
I'm into darker tones, and everything purple/Lavender
I think your take on doubling down is terrible and so are you
i read this as "Lovander" color and I got confused for a moment, then again i interpreted that as the color that Lovander is, before actually reading it correctly
I mean you could just use the colour theme of Lovander as nail art.
ye, that's what i thought
It was in this chat. Ah well
or channel rather
Okay that’s odd.
There’s at least one mod that likes to delete random shit but I don’t think they were around lately
🐇
A while back I forwarded a palworld themed meme from the regular memes channel to the palworld specific memes channel and it got deleted.
That’s when it dawned on me that there was someone truly special in that roster.
oof
what
It was a remix I did of a trails game. Might try it again later
Maybe. It’s hard to know when obtuse things like that get removed with no explanation.
@shell fossil I checked and all the links you posted so far are just promoting your Youtube channel, please read rule #5 again

They told me to delete things randomly
Who is they?

I think it would sell for a high price. People love gimmick foods at festivals
Yesterday I got released from the hospital and youtube recommended this to me... And I thought I was gonna have a laugh... It instead ripped my heart out and rewired it entirely, made me cry, and made me vow to change my life all in one day:

@soft drum
That's just completly bullshit.
Pirate software doesn't support pay to win.
Nor can you group Microsoft and Playstation as against ea when their almost as bad.
Pirate software agrees with the dint kill games on priciple
What he doesnt agree with is how a bunch of these people dint understand how the game industry actually works and that they have no interest in hearing able some of the things they are asking for are impossible to implement.
Games like league or mmos cant simply be made to work offline
Sure you can easily make MOST games work
But a lot of the things in the don't kill games while awesome do not operate within the reality of how code works
And the ignoant masses don't like to hear something wont work because if some thing they have no understanding of
The "don't kill games" is not putting fowards actual ideas that work. Its just the sane as politicians saying " i can fix this" without knowing a damn thing about it.. yeah we ALL want it fixed. But putting a petion together with "solutions" that anyone with a basic knowledge of how the internet and code words can tell you are bullshit solves nothing hes not the enemy. Hes trying to make it so you don't all look like dumbasses and implement something that is remotely feasible.
It the "can we nuke the hurricane"
Or "what about injecting bleach"
now say that again AFTER reading what Stop Killing Games actually proposes and is about.
I know things have gotten overly dramatic over Thor in particular, but I wouldn’t get too excited over any one meme.
Lmao what happened to Thor?
or not, only trust the lobby and piratesoftware. did you know he worked at blizzard? and that he is a hacker?
jokes aside, if all one brings is hate and misrepresentation of SKG i loose respect.
People dismantle and dissect what he says with the reality of what he did/accomplish and can actually do.
Like his talk about how much experience in game dev and hacking he had, when his code is beginner level at best.
Oh, Thor is an actual guy? 😆
Jason something is his actual name
Should just stick to Jason
stick it to the man
I did listen to both sides. Stop killing games is an idea with no solution behind it. That's the problem.
no it is not
What is the premise?
The Initiative has a few bullet point concerns, that should be discussed BY the politicians of the EU, which will then put together people that argue for both sides, to come to a conclusion.
Saying "force developers to keep games running Indefinitely" doesnt work with all types of games
So online games?
Im Sorry it just doesnt
You know how you can download the dedicated server files for Palworld and just host your own server?
Same thing.
that's a point in the initiative that has been explained in the FAQ
I have heard grumblings that publishers have been trying to take down private servers for games they no longer maintain servers for
SwiftKitten you should really read what's in the Stop Killing Games website yourself instead of letting other people read it for you through an edited youtube video
also none of what is proposed is supposed to work retroactively
This one? Yeah it has no details on how anything works
https://www.stopkillinggames.com/
people have figured out that you can run a car just via an electric motor instead of one running of gasoline, this isn't rocket science this is just video game coding.
what do you see at the top there?
there's somewhat of an FAQ 25 questions long
4th FAQ pointer addresses this
Everyone is so confused
Everyone who assumes the SKG initative is not thought out probably didn't read the FAQ
A: An increasing number of videogames are designed to rely on a server the publisher controls in order for the game to function. This acts as a lifeline to the game. When the publisher decides to turn this off, it is essentially cutting off life support to the game, making it completely inoperable for all customers. Companies that do this often intentionally prevent people from 'repairing' the game also by withholding vital components. When this happens, the game is 'destroyed', because no one can ever operate it again.
Now servers cannot be maintained forever
However, communities tend to make their own servers, even crowdfunding, or keeping them as projects of passion for the game
If a company stopped that happening, then they are just being a phallus
If it's a single player game that needs a server to verify it before you can play, then that is just satanaic, and there have been a few
Yeah and i agree with all that
I don't know what can be done
Satanic like television
But the point is. You can't just ask a developer to just "give me the code for your server"
Games as a service is the reason for this
nobody is saying that, but there will have to be a new way to think to manage the so called 'sunsetting' of the online structure
worst case we go back to a peer-to-peer lobby host system where the person with the best ping hosts.
"Games as a service" can die in a fucking hole
Red alert 2 and yuri's revenge still have servers running, somewhere in russia
People should be able to host thrir own mmos and shit but all these stuff comes with dev tools used to try to stop dupers and hackers and bad actors. You cant just make that public
they managed to turn this gacha game into an offline single player experience.
This is one of the games used as a showcase that it can be done if you want to milk more out of something.

True, but this thing didn't get momentum from benevolence
I'm willing to wager some douchenozzle moves fueled it
I very much want to go back to the day where the only time my game goes pbline is when i press the "online" button
Can't even go toilet because the flush counter is uploaded to twitter
But i cant expect devs to give away the fucking code to catch hackers that they might use for their next game...
I've never seen hacking be a really big problem
I've seen it be complained about a lot but the worst hackers I ever ran into were a few cheat engine users in dark souls
I just laughed it off because I get instakilled
Oh you sweet summer child
also if you're concerned about hacking, back in the CoD4 days, with private servers, you knew the admins etc, people vote kicked, etc, everything was community driven, like it's basically how it works in TF2 right now.
it's not raelly a matter of how effective is the anti-cheat, it's a matter of how tight is the community
Community run servers that are dedicated kick people who hack
Doesn't anti cheat run on client, not on server
Both
Client based anti cheat is annoying
If you don't want me to cheat against other players online, well sure
I remember single player games came with cheat codes
I mean only losers have a need to cheat against other people online.
I cheated online in dark souls 3
if you enter Robin Hood or Rock On during your campaign play of Age of Empires 2, nobody really cares.

but it's different if you try to torpedo 2 someone during online play ranked.
I remember diablo 2 lod. I still play d2r
There are still bots, Hacks, sell sites
Basically all in Asia
But since the damn realms can trade its fucks us here too
cheats in diablo 2 are basically an accessibility issue.
If your item drops are too low, people will just cheat to save time to play other games.
I can see why modding item rates and dupe glitches are popular in palworld for that reason.
Especially when the grinding is real and you don't want to spend 2 hours getting enough materials for 50 high end balls
I still haven't bothered trying to get 30 civilisation cores for a better shield
Or going to those oil derricks
predator cores is what I find most annoying
Civilization cores are not even an issue.
They can be farmed passively through expeditions
Materials for high end spheres? We have all the mining sites in base for them now.
Not to mention you find them on the floor and in junk piles everywhere high lvl
You likely haven't played since release or bellanoir if those are "issues" for you still.
Nah I just used mods
I played legit up until the latest island and found crafting got tedious
I'll say it
The only reason I was cheating bosses to get ancient civ cores a couple minutes ago is because I'm on a world where we haven't really dug into the content that rewards them yet
I think I have like 23 lying around on my main save and that's just ones I pick up while goofing around
Crafting requirements creep can suck all the fun out
When it's less exploration and making things from the spoils and more a chore
Chromite has you go into dungeons, coralium has you salvaging on the sea
Coralum is...way too demanding
Salvaging is kinda fun but like chromite you get 150 or more from a single hit and the game doesn't ask THAT much, fishing will get you maybe 10 if you're lucky and then you need 10,000, for the most basic gun
no other resource in the game requires you to dedicate so much time to getting it
Jellroy moment
Just like Smokie with chromite
But slightly different since Jellroy stacks
Crazy how I never needed smokie to get a decent payout of chromite
Yes, they released their space DLC today
Just checked and a full stack of maxed out jelroy is giving a whopping 15 coralum
So I get 1/10th (less than that, closer to 1/20th) the material, and the amount needed for 1 ingot is about the same, and you need more coralum for coralum-tier equipment than you need hexolite for hexolite weapons
Hi
And that's because salvage is not affected by the gatherable items multiplier. It's closer to 1/10th.
Also, unlike Chromite, you can produce Coralum in your base.
WHY
Also, Coralium tier weapons need more Hexolite than the Hexolite tier weapons. Which follows the same patern as the previous tier, with Hexolite stuff require more Plasteel than the Plasteel tier.
Its just art
I'M NOT BEING WEIRD ABOUT IT
We don't do that in public

Lastly, there's no Coralum armor, but there is Hexolite armor.
So, no, the cost end up being less, even overtime.
you can get chromite from expeditions
Expeditions are 1/base. Assuming you can pay up the pal cost for running all simultaneously and have beaten the required boss. They also need constant player oversight (every 5 mins).
The large fishing pong only needs 1 pal and lvl 55
Kerfus
just wanted to mention that there is a passive income from the expeditions on chromite
Not really passive if the player has to get involved
i just found really cool Mega Lucario art but scared to share because of who the artist is
i hate that it looks so cool 😭
Kind of is, I only collect and restart expeditions every time I collect eggs (bout every hour, 1.5 pre-ToT) and I have like 7 stacks of chromite despite never touching smokie or the metal detector
No? Passive income means it works without any input from you.
Also, it gives a max of 50, if you pick it up every hour, it took you 1400 hours, even with 10 bases.... it's 140 hours
I so far have not crafted maximum of 5 exotic spheres, the rest came passively from expeditions and I'm up to 100+ now
Okay? I'm not even considering sphere production, it's more armor crafting and repair which Coralum doesn't have.
that was in context of passive income, not about resource consumption
Never felt spheres were an issue before or after expeditions were added
The most I used expeditions for was cave mushrooms, otherwise you would get like 5 per dungeon back then
Completing the medicine research was a pain
The expeditions have also been building up my 401K and Stock Options Portfolio with their passive income.

Boomer

@boreal crow Mankey and Primeape! 🐒
I like how the images go (1) furious, (2) wild, then (3) is just "friendly and has a nice haircut"
Do they? I've never had to oversee mine 🤔
Also somehow stumbled into off topic, I'm never in here and have it muted, how??
You have to launch the expedition manually every time
you got lost exploring this Discord 😭
Oh Yee but it's not every 5 mins xD
And collect the rewards manually
Oh was that exaggeration?
Well, there used to be some bad people here, not so much anymore
I'm guessing that's why it was muted
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I think it's a diffirent kind of meaning of passive
we just argue it's just something you set and forget, you argue it's still partially active.
Also, and a side note, the expedition screen is really slow...it takes a bit to load and auto select the pals, even if you don't have that many pals
Removing a specific pal from it takes a bit to register
it feels slower than other interfaces
I noticed that screen is a little chunky, but I generally don’t have to wait for it.
I had to take time to search through the list if I wanted a specific pal not on the expedition sure, but I don't really care if something 'loses time'
I play with vsync, maybe that's why I don't notice any of this
it’s not likely down to something like that.
That wouldn't have any effect on it
It's not a graphical issue, more like it tries to load a lot of data at once
could be CPU heavy
It happens quick, but with a slight noticeable delay
I don't have a cpu, so I don't have any issue with that. easy
It's not instant like in the crafting interface
Chu chunk
No I muted it xD I just dunno how I ended up in here cause I don't remember clicking it
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I assume I misclicked xD
So to better explain myself on that.. I was more confused than anything regarding that.. I'm not upset, it was just that what I saw was the off-topic "A channel to talk about anything you'd like.." (In the decriptive up above here.) And if my remix of a trails game is being considered self-promo, that is fair if that’s the rule and I have no arguements. But I’ve also seen quite a few posts of Pokémon fanart here too (from Twitter and elsewhere which are platforms that are definitely MORE 'social media' than YT), and since Palworld is currently under fire and being raked over the coals by Nintendo over the Pokémon similarities, it kinda made me wonder where the line is drawn at times. 😅 But again, no hard feelings, I just wasn’t sure what’s okay and what’s not and was genuinely lost on this! I fully support you guys too, just had no idea about it to be honest
Nah, not a copypasta.. just a sincere message. Sorry if the formatting wasn’t ideal.
I just stopwatched it, from open menu, to select expedition, auto select, start, close menu. At roughly 4 seconds (subtracted a second wasted for stopping the stop watch). I don't know how much faster you want.
Eh, I'll do a recording when the current expedition is over
It really is just a storage and CPU thing. Do you have a m.2 drive and a good CPU?
M2, yes
Processor is Ryzen 5 4600H
Hmm
I wonder if it's UE4SS or some other mod
I think people who are active in the community pertaining to pocketpair games seem to be able to post their own stuff as well. If they look at your chat history here and decided your primary reason for being on the server is to self promote, I bet that’ll do it.
Though it would be ideal to be notified that was why, straight away.
There, that slight delay when auto-selecting all.
Selecting or unselecting a specific pal also has that slight delay
Hard to tell when there’s no indication when the click actually happens but I know what you’re referring to
I clicked immediately
If on a server it’s probably looking for the response to flag the pals in question.
Not sure how secure they designed it, I haven’t really scrutinized it since I’ve been having PSU issues and tried not to linger whenever I hopped in.

Man... I know Patapon only because my friends used it to jailbreak their PSPs....
I have all 3 patapon games on my psp
🐀
😭 I would barely call that a delay, and would just say it is calculating.
You made it sound like it took 2 seconds or longer.
It gets worse the longer I play
Yeah, the game has a bit of a memory (RAM) management issue. I simply go back to the title screen at least every 2 Hours.
The problem with that is that if you're playing for 4+ Hours, the game crashes, and your save gets corrupted, you are screwed. I also go to the title screen once every 2 Hours, so that I know the save file is gonna be fine.
I don't crash so...I just keep playing
I get a crash about... I simply expect at least one every 30 hours played.
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1 helps a lot
Ah okay gotcha.. I kind of come and go in discord in general to be fair and probably should get more active haha
I guess the optics of it from another angle it did look like that now that I think about it
Yeah, after they pointed out rule 5 it makes more sense.
Yes
rules for thee but not for me
the fanart posts aren't promoting the person posting them, they're a person posting OTHER people's art
Yep, prima is right

This is incorrect, rule 5 is still applies as usual unless they specifically state it (like in #videos-動画 and #1382931147771875328 ). Please don’t assume that being active on the server long enough gives you permission to break the rules.
But there are exceptions like a person is asking for a video guide about something related to PP games and you made a video about it then it's fine to share.
"Self promotion" being the key part. Posting your own youtube videos is basically "personal gain".

You can release dedicated server software without needing to expose any code, alotta games do that already, like the one half of this server is about (Palworld)
But as others have said, I just like genuinely think you're misunderstanding they SKG movement. It's to stop anti-consumer practices that straight up strip a game outta your hands that you paid hard-earned money for
For no reason other than "stop questioning product, and get excited for next product"
Overwatch 1/2 situation
Where overwatch 1 was killed to force people to move to overwatch 2 or lose $40 or more
Like the movement isn't asking fuggin Blizzard to make WoW a totally offline single player experience, should they ever decide to sunset the game
Overwatch 2 being a worse game in all ways
Yeah exactly
I support anything that 1: lets me own my games, and 2, forces these corpos to actually put effort into gaming
Competition used to do that
Season 2 of Sono Bisque Doll is already amazing with it's first episode, they really went all out for the animations again, love it.
Unfortunately the culture in these big corporations is twisted, they see games as something to get money out of people rather than creating a product people want to buy
They don't try and compete, they act entitled and complain about competition
One solution is to only let gamers make games. Get the businessmen out
That's why indie gaming is taking off spending wise, more money spent on indie and passion projects
no i really dont.. i actully agree with the idea of the movement... which should be obvoius... im a gamer.
the fact is everyone is oversimplifying things. the same why the simplify
" just port the ps3 game to pc"
That's kinda difficult to do
I’m already a lifelong PC gamer, but I fear even that’s not enough with how these corpos operate
"I'm a gamer" well that explains a fucking lot I'm gonna level with ya, mate
i absolutely despise what gaming has become. im 36 i remebr when games wern't like this
i remeber starcraft having a demo which u could play onlkine pvp with
Remove corpos
No self respecting person calls themselves a "gamer" these days. Fucking term has so much bad juju it's nuts.
I am an enjoyed if video games
What bad juju
i remember all my ps2 games even ps3 with no subscription to play online
i dont even PLAY console online anymore becuase they are asing me to pay for it
i very fully want to support the "stop killing games movement" i think its a fantasic idea... but im not just going to IGNORE the other sides valid arguments
If “Gamer” is bad juju, how about “PC Master Race”
as a video game connoisseur you must know that.
honestly at this point.. pc kinda is... it didnt used to be back before everyt console tried to charge for online
i love my ps5 though the haptics are amaing
the other side has no valid arguments in stopping Signature collection.
you are not allowed to just stop people from collecting signatures.
i said thier valid arguments
Corpos have no valid arguments
not the comperate bullshit that CAN easily change
I'll admit it's alot to do with mAiNsTrEaM mEdIa articles that paint "gamers" as a crowd of anti-social hateful jerks that attack anything that they even remotely disagree with, but also just from my personal experience alotta people that proudly label themselves as "gamers" unironically have turned out to be anti-social hateful jerks that attack anything that they even remotely disagree with.
The word is just icky and while I fucking love video games and don't use that label. I'm just a dude who loves gaming, dats it
I have a solution for the whole debacle
tell us some valid arguments then.
anyways i gtg to the store
Make good games that people want to buy
Just do that
If people want to buy, they will
Yup
Feels like most digital media fails the simple framework of supply and demand, give good service, sell good stuff, money follows
The movie and music industry failed this, and big gaming companies are failing, they try to cheat their way around the effort=reward thing
And the #1 rule: Buying is owning
You can fail, and you can't prevent that, selling is a risk after all
it's not mainstream media when it's on some video game related 'news' site, everyone knows that there's nothing but slander every other week published there, it's not reputable and should just be ignored.
Also as with every word, it means different things to different people in different contexts.
But you have to have faith
And that's fair to listen to both sides, I can understand disagreeing with the movement but I got bad vibes from the defending of Pirate Software (who's a complete asshole for other reasons, mind you) and the similar rhetoric you were saying that initially crippled the movement. I'm just making sure no more misinformation gets spread around about SKG
Did you fully watch Ross's videos explaining it all?
Gabe newell understood it very well, things were bleak and he focused on giving people what they want, and now steam is huge
There was a time I had full faith in IP law and only saw pirates as criminals, Nintendo ruined THAT
what companies want you to think is, that buying a video game is the same as buying an entry ticket to a park, and once the 'park' closes that's it for that ticket you bought.
Valve in general is insane with not only how much money they rake, but how small thier team is
I dunno what drives a business to hate consumers
Anything anti-consumer is irrational
In 2021, valve made about $1.2 billion profit, not just gross income.
They're a company the size of about 300 people, so that would be $3 million per head
That's actually fucking nuts
Now, it's obviously not every employee making that much, different pay grades and all that, but it's nuts how profitable it is to be consumer friendly...
And honestly valve didn't even intend to be that friendly! Lmao. Alot of the stuff that steam has was put in place because of lawsuits and court cases, the main example being their refund policy
The most surprising part about this is that the legal system actually helped for once
hehe..
Lmao
is that proof that we're living in a simulation
because what is more likely, that we're living in a simulation or that we're trapped in some giant space void.
Well one seems to be actively supported by scientific research
Interesting but how does this void differ from regular space
Voids exist
It's all one big void
The other is a baseless theory people come up with in order to explain their lack of control
Voids are just unusually empty parts of space
But there's still stars & things in them
One big void normally filled with stars and galaxies
The void around the milky way, is, I guess, a truly or nearly truly empty space
Which makes them less interesting to me haha, cuz yeah all of space is like that, makes sense it would be spread around differently
Expecting an even gradient?
There's a theory tho that big alien civilizations are in those voids, harvesting energy from the stars, and they are hiding their presence using cloaking devices
Doubtful
Buuuuuut I think they're just unusually empty parts of space
I think there's nothing but us
People are gonna insert aliens into everything
I think there's aliens, but I also believe in most paranormal things haha
World is boring without them
It's not looking good though
Any alien species that existed for even a few thousand years longer than us should have spread out among the stars, at least if intelligent
Maybe they have, we wouldn't have any way of knowing unless they wanted us to know
Can't hide radiation
Well, according to my favorite author, the answer is both. Earth was a seed placed in a lonely section to reduce interference while the simulation runs.
You fail to grasp the magnitude of space
Their colonies would be visible, they should be here already tbh
We can't, also there's tons of radiation in space to help mask a presence haha
It's more of a question of where are they
You can't possibly understand the tech of an alien civ that can colonize other worlds
Unless they're literally starting in our local cluster in our local galaxy in our local supercluster, we may never ever see them
Either our intelligence type is unique
And 99.99999999999999% of the known universe is outside of that radius where we could see them
It's not like we have space-wide radar lmao
If our intelligence type isn't unique, there should be a few galaxy spanning civilisations given the age of the universe
Today, we’re announcing the seizure and dismantlement of several illicit video game marketplaces. From February to May of this year, there were approximately 3.2 million illicit downloads, and these downloads caused an estimated loss of $170 million: https://t.co/hrTmF0jIVU
The fact that the nearest star is a four year voyage going at the maximum possible speed should say it all
There's ways around that yet to be discovered
Exactly 😆
The hypothetical tech is mind boggling, and we cannot understand it
Like yeah we can vaguely see shapes of planets through telescopes, but (1) due to light speed, our "vision" becomes increasingly outdated with distance, and (2) we could not pick out anything smaller than, or anything on the surface of, those planets
But there's at least nobody in this spiral of the milky way, we have seen that much with spectroscopes, no errant radio or other emissions
We measure microscopic changes in light of a distant star to guesstimate how many celestial bodies are orbiting that star, we don't know shit about shit
The sky is eerily quiet, given how old the universe is, where's all the life that has developed spaceflight?, didn't take us long
We also don't have another green planet in the milkyway
And if we're only just now being able to look into the stars, why would anyone else be further than us
There's no concrete reason any planet would exist older enough than earth to have given rise to these fantastical galaxy wide empires
We do have Saturn tho with that gorgeous ring
Like we're not primitive because we're slow we're primitive because it took so long for the sun to form, for the planets to form, for the earth to cool, for life to form, and so on
Blink of an eye
Any other potential sapient race would also have to wait billions upon billions of years for this to happen
Not even close
Or none at all
Is this talking about emulation sites? "estimated loss of $170 million" is bullshit if they're talking about games that can't even be bought anymore
Earth has existed for 4.something billion years and for most of that existence it was utterly incapable of dreaming of supporting life
Number of emulated games downloadedxhow much that game would sell for
Executive math
Ah yes, fault me for playing Super Paper Mario when you're no longer offering Super Paper Mario
Yeah, you stole money from them that doesn't exist
But yeah there's really no reason to believe that any alien sapient race isn't also sitting alone on their own isolated ball of rock with no advanced technology beyond our own, behind some cluster of stars and nebulae our telescopes can't resolve through due to interference
Maybe they're looking at that same cluster from their side having this exact conversation
In a thousand years, if we don't kill ourselves off, we'll be out there
I think just assuming a similar level of technology is even feasible or that is happens often is not a really realistic approach
Should be some type 2 or 3's at least
Ants could circumnavigate the earth before we could get to the next closest star, I think
Yeah with rocket engines
Even if we had light speed transportation
Well, if the ants didn't have to contend with oceans and stuff
The real issue is the drake equation, which is pretty solid, given the number of habitable zone planets out there that we have identified, life should be common
Doesn't need to happen often
It seems to be at least, uncommon
If you shake down the statistics it comes out as very very possible but unlikely to be within a distance we can see it
Yeah
Statistics on what
Well, we've just about proven it isn't within a distance we can see it
You have to first beat the life roll
But the universe has been around a long time and life should be not only elsewhere, but have colonized large areas by now
It's irrational that we are the only ones
Not saying that
We are already reaching out
Even within the milky way there is surely someone else with a green or analogous to green planet
Millions
Hhh we're more listening
I know what you are referencing
I'm saying that the conditions on a planet to even allow technology to advance enough might not be as common as you think
Possibly
I'm aware the odds are astronomically low but the number of opportunities in even just our galaxy is astronomically high
I would expect most stuff on the periodic table to not be unique to earth
Oh nvm I was thinking about something else
I'm shocked we haven't had a visitor
And frankly the universe is less fun if you sit there with a depressing "it's too unlikely" attitude
And then you have to consider that not only is the tech a limiter, but society too
Let a girl dream
When we started setting off nukes this planet would have lit up like a supernovae from the emissions leaking out
Smh smh
?????
Taking the fermi paradox too seriosuly is not healthy tbf
Do you have.
Any idea. What a supernova is
Any species with a spectroscope would have seen earth and said "Wtf is happening there"
I exxagurated for dramatic effect
A supernova is literally where anything heavier than iron comes from
There is no uranium to build a nuke until there is a supernova
Earth was a beacon during nuke testing, the whole galaxy would have noticed
Nobody came
It wasn't?
Yes it was
The blast yield of nuclear weapons is very quantifiable and even the regular output of the sun blows it away like the nothing it is
You aim a spectroscope at earth when an atom bomb goes off
It'll light up, lots of diferent radiation
The nukes were not big enough for any signaling, much less a beacon, a volcano could erupt and be more noticeable
Have you aimed a spectroscope at earth when a nuclear bomb goes off
Our regular radio emissions are now in deep space
Yeah maybe on the moon, maybe on mars
Radiotelescopes see a lot
But go any further out and the inverse square law starts becoming a problem
Background noise moment
You haven't even left the solar system and you're already at a point where catching a single photon is a miracle
And then consider that an overwhelming majority of all radiation leaving the solar system is the sun
Our radiotelescopes have shown us objects billions of miles out, if a nuke went off in a planetary atmostphere it'll be noticed
To isolate a handful of stray photons of abnormal radiation and trace them back to a planet orbiting a main sequence star is just not possible with any known technology
We do it to spot planets a few billion light years away
g2a?
More advanced species than ours will notice a planet using nukes
We can detect the minor change in luminance from a planet traversing its star yes, because planets are huge
im sorry, 3.2m downloads is only 170m $?
cant be nintendo games then
We cannot isolate any radiation from those planets, however, because they're too far away and too buried in the star's radiation
And a whole ton of x-rays, gamma rays, thermal radiation, coming from an earthlike planet in a single event
Dead giveaway
Can you isolate a random ant's fart in a cow farm?
Except they're buried in the overwhelmingly more radiant star's output
btw a bit off-topic but do you prefer ribbon or prima as a name?
"Hey FBI, did you work on stopping the systematic capturing and selling of human beings for unspeakable things?"
"Nah, but we stopped people from emulating BotW!"
Whichever
Yeah and interstellar extinction is a thing
The sun emits tans dude, surfs up
Wavelengths are easy to distinguish
Your X-rays hit a nebula and their incredibly short wavelength causes them to disperse and cease to be
it's raining men
Crap, careful what you wish for I guess
You can put out all the thermal radiation you want, can screen that out
High intensity light doesn't travel so freely
Only radio and visible light, which the sun emits in spades
Irrelevant next to the single hottest class of object in the known universe
oh wow, it emits (sins/coss), I didn't know!
Identify the sparkler in the raging inferno by thermal emissions
I'ma tan yer hide if you don't knock off the math tomfoolery
Right now, aliens are probably watching mork and mindy
A nuclear detonation would actually mask the earth because it would reduce the change in the apparent output of Sol
Prima, let's assume we would settle any other planet in our system, let's say the moon just for the sake of it.
We would first have to somehow make an atmosphere somehow no?
Or like mars too, like we would have to plant plants and stuff and have them try to build an atmosphere or is that not how this works?
aliens don't come to us because they think we're cringe
We probably are collective cringe NGL
yes you all are.
Thus we would make it seem that either another, smaller planet was in the system, or it would just make it harder to detect the earth
They see us killing each other and nope out
question then is, are you a worker bee or a queen bee.
Maybe aliens come to earth in secret because we have the best drugs in all of the universe
I've seen a ufo
Because killing each other is a trait exclusive to humans, no other lifeform has ever done such a thing do not look at those articles about monkey wars
the best drug is love
A big one
Maybe the only thing rarer than intelligent life is a monster hit of LSD
Dolphins are definitely just friendly creatures and do nothing weird or strange within their own species
It's 100% just humans
Killing each other isn't just a trait, it's barbaric, I don't want to be associated with this species and I live here
💀
I sure as heck wouldn't visit and risk my neck here if I had interplanetary tech
I think even bees do it
If they decide they don't like the queen they like murder her and make a new one
What if they got ideas, what if they killed me to take it
Kirov reporting
I love how messed up dolphins are, they are just as bored as me.
We're being invaded?
there are many other species that also kill each other for competition (competing for food, mates, etc.)
🪦
GIFs that Az & I can likely hear
Yup
That game is just too cool, even all these years later
I'll share the secrets of space flight
EA can't take it from me :)
Specifically 2, I liked 1 but I liked 2 soooo much better
They might have killed Westwood
They might have killed Command and Conquer
But I still have Red Alert 2
They most certainly did this hahaha, ffs
THose idiots
Space expands in all directions at once, and can contract, if you figure out how strange things happen

Kane lives
(I think the actor is still alive actually)
Yup
Jurassic Park is turning more and more into Dino Crisis 3 just without going to space. Yet.
Peace through power
Kane gives!

YEEEEEE IT'S HIGH NOON SOMEWHERE, PILGRIM
Hey you, have a great weekend.
Also might not be off topic but posting here: wasn’t krafton working with pocketpair on some kind of mobile palworld or something? I had heard a lot of krafton hate because of a subnautica 2 deal or something, and was wondering if this would affect their partnership with pocketpair in any way
It's already too late to change
So… that means what exactly?
Krafton’s statement said the fired the heads at Unknown Worlds with the allegations that they weren’t dedicated enough to the project and their supposed absence of leadership caused delays.
That’s not something that can happen with Palworld because Pocketpair is not under Krafton’s umbrella. If I understand correctly, Krafton is using their own resources to do mobile Palworld.
Well you can understand my concerns that the big company that had one job with subnautica 2 is inventing new, terrible jobs while failing the one job, might screw up a Palworld mobile port where they have many jobs and less public exposure
It doesn't affect me either way because I don't play games on my phone but i generally prefer good things happen to the Palworld IP than bad things
Really piling up the hypotheticals, there.
unfortunately theres not enough public evidence to really know whos in the right
Eh?
I'm just connecting the dots I have
Unless they are using Unknown Worlds to make Palworld, none of those dots connect.
????
Krafton is messing up subnautica 2 by overly interfering with the devs
Krafton is solely working on the Palworld mobile port, meaning they have even more responsibility they can fumble through bad executive decisions
Just saiyan
The first is an assumption as we don’t even know if they’re the ones to blame.
If the court sides with the ex ceos they yes we can say that.
But publishers will get ornery blowing a bunch of recourses on a way overbudget project if the people who are supposed to be there keeping everyone straight aren’t even putting in their time commitment.
But the thing is we just don’t know.
If Krafton’s expectation was to have everyone there for every waking hour then that’s obviously a problem.
That’s the allegation.
Think it's true?
Right now it’s he-said she-said
Seems like a weird, desperate "Gotcha" thing
The corporation is almost always in the wrong
Krafton has a bunch of games and some that do really well
That’s naive at best.
I want to believe that
It's a weird state for the games industry
They either do normal things to make money
All i know is that Subnautica 2 is missing its lead developers, is now delayed like 2 years???? and all that leads to krafton, not anyone at unknown worlds
Or they pull some heinously shady stuff
With all the heinously shady stuff I have seen over the years I have trouble doubting
There’s crooks at all tiers in the industry
That was ridiculous haha, out of touch devs are funny
Mustache twirling hitler lookalike is their spirit animal
Krafton is based in Seoul
Omg haha I'm genuinly surprised the auto-mod didn't flip out just now
Cancel silent hills and make a pachinko machine
Wipe hideo kojima's name from all credits
Most of this awful game industry stuff you’ve been seeing revolves around the west and western culture itself.
Say you run your company on fear and pessimism
Yeah we suck
Say a game that sells 1.3 million copies is afailure, needs to sell more
That entirely depends on how much was put in to make it.
It can do
I'm not going to be so discriminatory as to assume someone is innocent just because they're "not western"
Budgets are out of control for the most part
You apparently missed the point.
All corporations, in all countries, are equally capable of malice in my eyes
I know it when I see it
And there may as well be flashing signs here
They run companies with silly numbers of people on the payroll and spend ridiculous amounts on development
Big bright signs like "WE ARE EVIL"
And advertising
"WE WANT MONEY AND DON'T WANT TO SHARE IT"
Like nintendo suing pocketpair
That’s categorically out of malice
Indie dev comes along, is a two person team, creates hollow knight, both become millionaires, retire
(Where is silksong you mfers?)
It’s 100% malice.
I've seen nintendo pull similar stuff and it reeks of really ignorant nonsense
That ain’t about defending IP
I remember when they went after youtube accounts for let's plays
Things that categoricallly boost sales, massively
They go after everybody they plain don’t like.
Free advertising with millions of views
Nintendo never embraced the internet
They routinely attacked fanmade games too
Nintendon't caare about the little guys
It's going after your own fanbase that's the weirdest thing
Around the turn of the century they went after a load of pokemon fan sites.
Right?
Nintendo needs to get twerked
They need a new perspective, fresh blood
They need to get laid, that's all this boils down to

It's been 30 years & we're all feeling it
That's never solved anything
They seemed relatively less horrible about it during Iwata’s tenure, but we’re kinda back. 😅
Shigeru miyamoto wouldn't recognise nintendo today
I thought he retired
Yesn’t
So you're saying they should monetize fan work instead?
That's the modern perspective, I think
Lizard people
so anyway that's why when I hear "big company removes small company lead devs" I naturally assume that big company is just engaging in corporatism
and corporatism messes up everything it touches, from a consumer perspective, 9 times out of 10
They can't grasp natura states of things
Not an unreasonable take.
Trying to force profit has opposite effects
But it’s happening with a company that doesn’t have a bunch of these stories.
I'm not saying palworld mobile is doomed and we should all start running now
Or, heavens no, not that this is going to affect us as pc/console players
But the vibes are no longer "we are so back" and more "it could be over"
I am not gonna get palworld on my phone
notably, they are not "it IS so over"
I really wouldn’t worry about it.
my phone isn't for gaming.
I mean kyran you gotta think of the cascading consequences
if palworld mobile port sucks mega toilet water, a bunch of people are gonna come in HERE and cry about it
my phone is for being forgotten
Me neither haha
Not the worst thing I’ve seen happen by any stretch of the imagination.
My phone is for Instagram & paying bills
That doesn't make it a good thing!
I’m honestly more worried about this community being unapologetically hostile to mobile players.
For a moment I thought you meant that the game flopping would be good according to bucky
and I was like
A hostile discord against palworld mobile players would be more damaging to the brand than a bad mobile port, says I.
Hey man I'm just gonna prance around with my 35 mods they can't mod because I can't be bothered to port them
Maybe it's the New Coke tactic, unleash a shit product & then give the people exactly what they want afterwards
That’s fine.
get some pokemon mods for extra sting
Coke as in Coca Cola right?
Yeeeeeee
I'll take whatever is in stock tho
There was a pokemon mod when Palworld came out and Nintnedo C&D’d them the next day.
And nexus sh-ts their pants at the idea of a pokemon mod because they think nintendo will like murder them into the ground if one exists
YET
IN DEFIANCE OF THEIR LOGIC
The lucaario over anubis mod is still available on curseforge
It probably doesn't even work anymore, but it is still publicly available, Nintendo has done nothing about it
Pansies
Yes, I am bitter that I can't upload the popjoy font mod, how could you tell
They’ll go after whoever they feel is worth the print out.
Nexus likely got hit before so they’ll be more proactive.
Nintendo burned US tax dollars getting the FBI to take down romsites, when they definitely have better things to be spending their time on.
It's still being made, releasing sometime later this year actually.
Hollow Knight also took a long time to make, which makes sense given the incredibly small dev team.
that's where elmo gets his high pitch voice
There is no client list in Ba Sing Se
Oh man hahaha I forgot about that meme
I loved that meme
Every politician and world leader is on the list until proven otherwise with its reveal.
Yeah that's nuts
Don't you hate copyright/IP/patent laws? We wouldn't need Stop Killing Games to regain customer commerce rights if the framework that enabled the artificial killing of games weren't there to begin with.
Rom dumps of snes games?, autistic executive screeching
Those laws are to stop people promoting off of other people's work
To be sllightly fair to Nintendo, it was a site for Switch roms, but they still make the fallacy that every pirated copy is a lost sale, when it's already been proven that pirates are more likely to spend on average. Also, not every pirate would have purchased a copy anyways if the ripped ROM wasn't an option, like someone who didn't have a console and wasn't about to shell out the money for one.
Unfortunately they are used for other stuff
I remember when zelda breath of the wild got an almost immediate romdump
People were saying it would destroy sales
I tried it on the only working emulator, it was a buggy, broken, extremely low fps hell
No way would anyone have had a good experience playing it at 3fps and clipping textures
elmo be in his own world with that nose candu
Before they got struck down, I remember hearing about how they were decent emulators. Whoever greenlit the original article for that one newsite basically praising day 1 emulation for Metroid Dread and pirates probably got fired.
I'd take that with a pinch of salt
Game might run, but not very clean or fast
Functions
Yeah, and those emulator devs making build specific patches for their emulators to run the new Zelda game before it's street date and putting it behind a patreon paywall was a terrible move, since it gave Nintendo room to argue that in order to develop that build, they had access to the pirated rom.
Yeah but it ran horribly
The article went over how on day 1, Metroid Dread could be run at 4k at 60 fps, definitely news worthy for a gaming news site, but it had to be revised for a reason.
You couldn't play it, everything lagged
It's not a good look when "thank God for pirates" was in the initial article.
You just die in fights and fail jumps because it was janky
No way a day 1 emulation ran at 60fps
That makes me laugh
How much did the PC managing that cost
No twerking pls.
Yes ma'am

NVIDIA Smooth Motion finally for RTX 40 series NVIDIA has released the first driver from its new 590 branch. This is a preview driver, not intended for general users, and is primarily aimed at developers or those interested in testing the new Shader Model 6.9. So, what does Shader Model 6.9 bring? It introduces support […]
I hope this news going around about the Switch 2 now bricking if you play used games is fake. That would be way too far. What is the point of backwards compatibility then?
Like all the stories the headlines are leaving out particularly important details.
When they say “used games” they really meant “bootlegs”
Other people's games they are using thus they got bricked
Using the mig switch and reselling I mean
To dumb the game and then resell it
Nintendo has always offered to replace bootlegs with a real copy of the game if you rat out where you bought the counterfeit cartridge from.
But until now they wouldn’t know unless the cart was presented to customer service or something
It's becoming more common tho
Been seeing them doing this and them getting banned and have to call Nintendo to get them unbanned
Just provide that you own the copy with a high resolution picture and then wait
Yeah.
The story this round is stemming from was a fellow got banned after buying some “used” games off of Facebook marketplace and putting them into their system to download the updates.
Then they woke up with a banned console and had to call Nintendo to get unbanned.
Nope, but if the carts were genuine I severely doubt that would happen.
Given where they bought them from it is highly likely at least one was a counterfeit.
Aren't the bricked consoles also selling as 2nd hand
Which coincidentally also plays into their hate for 2nd hand market
I’ve encountered counterfeit GBA games like this when I was younger.
By making the 2nd hand market more scary and risky
That literally happens with all consoles.
Gamestop for example checks for this with any system they accept as a trade-in.
I've heard the opposite for gamestop
I’ve traded in systems before, they always connect it while I’m there to see if it’s banned, lol
I've long since stopped reading articles on gaming sites because of the clear bias. Instead try to find those who do videos and add citations in the description, which aren't many... I figured it was due to bootlegs but it seems this isn't the case or the Big N's scorch earth tactic to the second-hand market.
The amount of grifting that goes on is pretty severe, yeah. It’s why I always question headlines.
But yeah if you bought used cartridges in the past there’s a non-trivial chance you have counterfeits. I’ve even met people who put those up.
It's weird, I never saw any here.
I thought game bootlegs died out in the early 2000s. Guess not.
I'm guessing there's no point in selling fakes when they can sell the flashcard or whatever it was called
I think I have one of those lmao
it's a GBA cartridge labelled 173 games in one
And you'll never believe what's on it
I had games I “thought” were legit, particularly GBA, but might have a problem saving or eventually starting.
160 some games, if you remove the duplicates
Send them to Nintendo to fix it and they’ll like “where did you get this?”
most are like basic arcade games running on an emulator of some kind
Saving receipts was a good practice, lmao
Yeah, there's no "send to nintendo" here
but they did have the mario advance and a bunch of other actual GBA games on them
none of those could save, and mario kart super circuit ran horribly
Yeah, in that case you’d never know unless you took apart yourself and happened to know what the proper versions looked like.
There was also a "Pokemon Silver" and "Pokemon Gold" that I don't remember too clearly but they contained like 0 pokemon, 0 silver, and were both action platforming games
If the game works and is what's on the label, I don't think anyone cares
There really isn't a game collector market here
For the most part most are none the wiser.
We always got US imports here
So I’m not surprised the Switch 2 is able to perform some kind of check (however long that’ll actually work)
For everything
In all honesty I’m kind of surprised they didn’t do that sooner.
Meh, PS2s could check if the CD you put in was the game or not
That doesn’t mean anything
I remember the epic whining when dvd encryption was broken
Goobchip was the GC one
The could tell there’s a game, not necessarily if it was legit (if it ran)
Anybody seen Quinn?
Bro was being hammered in general the other day so wondered if he is ok or not
They made them difficult to copy, but that was always a thing.
Region locks are another story, ofc
Either way, checking if what you put in genuine is not ground breaking tech
Oh wait nvm
Wasn’t he around like this morning?
I just got on like an hour ago so
Never said it was, just saying it’s surprising Nintendo didn’t do it until now.
They have been doing it for decades
What are you talking about
What to do for what
Does this pertain to any particular game?
Pretty sure Gamecube didn’t ban people.
Gamecube needed a whole big piece of hardware to even connect to the internet
