I don't know much about the guy above in the link. I can only go from the article in this discussion, so, what I have gathered: he doesn't care to play games, but he delayed the launch for the betterment of the game.

He seems to have an interest in the quality of the product. To me, that is a good CEO.

He is leaving the actual game work to those capable and having them do what they do best. He is doing what he does best and keeping the company afloat.

Now, if he said he does not like games or the industry, he would be a horrible hire for that position to me bc the game would be a number to him, he wouldn't understand the need to delay for the quality, just that money is being lost now and needs to be recooped now.

Sometimes I wish Nintendo was a normal company. Their games are nice, but it's kinda hard to get excited for the possibility of a new Smash Bros for the Switch 2 when everything's promising to be so expensive, and it's kinda hard to justify spending that much money on a company that actively shuts down their own online community.

You seem to misunderstand. The problem with fan games is that, while yes they are an effort of passion and a sign that a game is doing well, they are copyright infringement, which is problematic for the copyright holder in most circumstances, especially when that copyright holder is a very big name.

It is unfortunate, but it is the case. It's why inspired games like Freedom Planet are a better route for would-be creators.

It is unfortunate but understandable in the capitalist environment we inhabit that Sony would shut down Bloodborne fan games even though the IP is currently inactive. The same cannot be said for Nintendo shutting down community events and content creators. That's free advertising and PR.

I always find phrases like "capitalist environment" funny in discussions like this. I get the idea that is trying to be shared, but by all technicality it really isn't accurate. In a true capitalist environment, regulations such as copyrights and so on wouldn't even exist. Pure competition- survival of the fittest. No time caring about who has credit over what. If one person can do something "better" than the other, then they can use or exploit that as much as possible.

Pure economies basically don't exist. Just about every complex country has a mixed economy, albeit leaning towards some ideas more. Copyrights and patents are effectively government regulation with the "good intention" of protecting ideas from being stolen. Government regulation does not align with pure capitalism.

Not entirely true. Governments offer a level of stability and protection that can be preferrable to even large corperations. Copyright law is a fine example of that, the idea that ideas can be property is very useful when your goal is profit. Capitalism doesn't necessarily equate to libertarianism.

Regardless, the point stands that so long as copyright law exists, fan games are a problem for the IP holders for said games, as such it is completely understandable that they would be shut down. Understandable is not the same as good, it just means that there's a clear throughline.

I wouldn't really consider it a technicality. Capitalism doesn't necessarily have to be libertarian to be capitalism, libertarianism is not "more pure" than other forms of capitalism. Free markets are not inherently more capitalist than restricted markets.

Eh, a key aspect of genuine capitalism is that the market runs itself through supply and demand. Government involvement and restricted markets absolutely undermine that foundation.

Do many of our countries partake in capitalism to a large degree? Yes. Are they truly capitalist systems? Not really.
