To be fair the larger the company the dumber the shit it does and the less it cares about the product it produces. Its the current fate of economics and problem with monopolies. Basically we are heading towards a singularity not only with technology but economically. The world is so interconnected that when one piece gets upset the whole house of cards starts to crumble as we are witnessing now.

Thus smaller companies or mid range companies tend to make the best products and offer comprehensive customer service that is often better than the big companies cause they cant afford to be bad at them.. Mega corps become to big to fail and have too much money behind them so they can afford to have a bad service and essentially scam end users. Take EA as a prime example they produce the same games and content over and over claiming its new and better when in reality its not and they just rehash the same formula over and over and sell it for top dollar.
Customer service with them is a joke and yet they keep going on and on without fail and people keep spending on their product. Yet they remain in business buying up more studios and decommissioning them to eliminate competition on product. Buy X studio to get title dismantle X studio reap profits and count studio X as a business loss and tax write off while transfering successful titles to other studios to mark a gain.

I think there is a disconnect between the realities of the business and player's expectations of it.

A lot of gamers throw insults at certain big companies and say they do "dumb shit" and yet profits only seem to go up and player numbers only seem to increase so...are they really doing something dumb?

I don't disagree that there is a lot of soulless development going on from some companies and things are being min-maxed to produce games that will sell as many copies as possible but I suppose if you are a company of 10,000 employees that is just the level you need to operate at to survive.

From I have heard from the YouTuber Logically Answered, when the founders of a company retire, that is when everything starts going south. They lose the original vision and replace it with just trying to survive. Big Tech seems to be having the worst of it, and I am sure the AAA gaming companies are affected by this to some degree, too.

This is what often causes a lot of friction between the vocal minority and game devs. You'll often see some people say "the devs don't listen to us", when the reality is all the data and sales show that 99% of their game's community is happy.

At the core of my beliefs is just the fact that I don't think I'll get more than just this life, and I ain't gonna waste it kowtowing to everyone else, I'm gonna do what I want unless it's actively hurting someone else, so I tend to just get what I want even if I'm "contributing to the shitification" or something haha, after all I'm just me, I'm probably not going to have any effect either way

AAA companies make a lot of nasty decisions on the surface, but obviously they don't want to be laying people off all the time. Their goal is obviously to grow as big as possible and make as much money as possible. It's just gotten much harder these days because making games is getting easier which is leading to a rise of indies that some traditional AAA struggle to compete with tbh.

Personally more people need to do the same to change the industry for the better. If more people boycott bad games and companies that push them out the better the games will get. As it stands many companies feel they can push out trash to turn a fast profit and dont care about their product.

Unrelated to PP, I don't really rmb all the details but there was a fan translation incident happened to a KR indie company before.
They thought those specific language fans translated the game properly to their language, so they added it to the game, even paid those fans.
But turned out it was machine translation after other fans pointed it out.
Fans bailed with the money and that KR company never get those money back.

Then add various language rules, writing rules, other rules, I wouldn't dream of attempting to translate something even if I spoke a second language xD
