Someone surrendered a HUGE constrictor to a pet store I like to go to. Bc they didn't have an enclosure big enough for it, they would quarantine off an area of the store and take it out to let it move around every so many hours.
I loved making it in during that time. They would let you pet it and hold a portion of it. It took a couple guys to safely pick it up, so you couldn't really hold the whole snake.

If it hasn't already passed, there is a conservation type law that is in talks to limit what species of reptile or aqauatic creature you can have. It is to try and keep people from releasing invasive species.

The issue I personally have with the law is the people making it aren't thinking it through.
An example is they accidentally outlawed black and white clown fish in the earlier talks but orange ones were fine.

If you are referring to older/ancient gem cutting I believe they would have implemented techniques similar to how you break flint to start.

To do that, you wojld find impurities in the stone, apply heat, and strike it to break it. I would assume (this is going off of watching old documentaries for different stone things long ago) some initial shaping would have been done in this manner: extreme heat, precise strike.

As for polishing, that was probably done with A LOT of patience and a lot of people with various tools and grits. They probably had to use heat and stone grinding wheels(like they used for metal) to shape the stones to cause it to chip away before just going through motions of polishing steps that took a long time bc the material they were using wasn't correct to make the job easier.

I was trying to polish quartz on my grinding wheel. It works, but at the expense of my wheel bc whatever the wheel is, it is not harder than the quartz. So, even though I was seeing the quartz being polished, it was destroying my wheel.

I upgraded to diamon wheels (not bery good ones) and can now polish quartz without it eating the wheel.

Let me put it into perspective: I work at a lead acid battery recycling plant as a maintenance person. Technically speaking, 100% of the process is recycling of some kind. We recycle the lead and refine it into hogs, pigs, etc, to be resold to purchasers. We clean up the plastic and ship it out to be recycled. We recycle water and have processes to separate the acid and neutralize it. Even as far as the dust generated by this process, we have an entire system that manages the lead dust alone. We have an entire system that manages emissions to keep them as low as we can.

We have multiple millions of dollars of equipment in the plant and a lot of power going to it. I'm part of the crew that maintains all this and keeps it running.

... Lithium is different. It is also very volatile; we've had a lithium explosion destroy the battery conveyor chain rails and fuck up the hammermill pretty good. It hates water and it hates impacts.
