a live service game is a game that is actively run and developed as the players play, usually with the goal being player retention to earn money through subscriptions or MTX.

palworld isnt even finished, and theyve already said their goal is the just finish the game, with no plans to go f2p/live service. they just want to finish their game and pakcage it as a complete product; the reason it released early and is being worked on while the public is playing it (EA) is likely due to the financial situation the company was in around the time of its initial development.

maybe well get a live service palworld sequel/spinoff down the line, but for now palworld is intended to be a complete package once finished (1.0), but given the games popularity i could see them maybe adding a little post launch content or moving to a spinoff/sequel.
