My laptop suddenly blacked out and had few popping sounds, followed by a little smoke and even burning smell. This happened while playing a 15 year old game while on 100% charge.

However, I was able to still turn it on after a short while. A hardware scan does not yield any fault.

Should I still get it checked? And should I still be using it despite the incident?

Back up what you can on it, if you can pull the battery until it's looked at - if you can't pull the battery as it's one of the onboard ones consider putting it into a baking tray or something so if something does overheat and fail any possible fire is contained in a heat resistant container until you can smother it

Usually there's a hardware diagnostic you can do depending on the manufacturer, but it won't detect any fuses or such that might have popped, just if components themselves have failed.
I know it sounds a little overparanoid, but because I don't know what's caused the failure, and you've mentioned a burning smell I'd treat it as very suspect until checked over
