Burger Time is a very old game.
The buns are the "capture" material, you play as a chef. The ingredients for the burgers walk around trying to kill or eat you (can't remember if it said). You had to push the bun down the platforms capturing as many ingredients to create a complete burger xD.

I'm actually glad this got brought up here, so as a fellow game creator just like PocketPair I myself am making my own game that nobody has ever heard of or played before, it's not a game similar to Pokemon just like Palworld but what I'm working on is a Final Fantasy-like game where a medieval-like world is in grave peril of being destroyed (or conquered) by evil beings, and it is up to a group of warriors known as the Mystic Warriors to make sure that the world is saved from the forces of evil.

With today's technology you could probably devise a basic MMR have it be entirely skill based

Could further make it where 2man teams or more only que with 2man teams or more basically encouraging people to solo que or go all in with friends.

Meaning even on a loss a truly good player positive k/d good gold gain or whatever else across the board gets slowly pushed up and the bad players keep pushed down

Then just revise what means good and bad overtime as players adapt to the game and the skill curve changes

in my view, mmr should be based on your statistics, your performance, then you should be placed in a division and do a regular scoring league like in football

I understand there's better ways to make a league with people going up and down the league, but I know we don't need to complicate things

I prefer numbers over your classic diamond bronze etc... personally, rankings that class a group from my standpoint aren't great, but yea the system needs to count all the variables hell it could even show a comparison on why you didn't rank up or score many points

It's doable to an extent if everything is equalized, but youd have to adjust movement speed and damage after that if you have say melee vs ranged otherwise melee will just get kited and wrecked 99.99% of the time, there's ways to simplify it, a few games I've seen do equalization almost perfectly was a lot of fun, they even removed the level gap issue in arena mostly, like a level 35 could legitimately kill a level 60

Gear doesn't matter other things don't matter, if you're level 35 your health and defence gets boosted to the same stat as the level 60 for example, your damage also gets boosted to match it.

When I say equalized it means it's a literal even footing aside from access to certain skills

After that it's just tweaking class kits, if they all operate the same fundamentally with a few variations that still scream this class is unique

It doesn't get boring

More games are slowly adding it for arena and normal play there's two different calculations the game uses

But it's been floating around for over 10 years mostly on niche games

But take that balancing on an RTS if everything is fundamentally the same different factions may have different boosts, but if everything is equally as important a 5% boost to gold would still be similar to a 5% boost to platinum or you could forgo resource boosts and have it be training time or attack speed or movement, flying etc.. as long as the end result doesn't make an absolute clear meta of "hey this is broken" or "hey this beats the other 55% of the time"

Then I'd say it's good enough
