The way I translate "feeling wanted" is the human desire for companionship. Every person wants it, so yes, it is "selfish," but not selfish in a bad way. What would make it selfish in a bad way is finding someone with their group, butting in, and pushing everyone else away so you have this individual to yourself and sap up all their time. But obviously don't start manipulating and dragging people away from their lives and other friends for your own sake either, that's when it becomes selfish.
