To a degree, sure, but if a company is sharded off into several different ones that doesn't always mean they are actually separate in their behaviors.
Also if a company wants to truly claim to be independent of the parent, then they should be separate, name and everything.

If someone calls a business "Barrys Bricks", and then a subsidary is spun off, "Barrys Flooring", when Barry's Bricks does something stupid, it's going to poison all associated brands

So I have little sympathy for Sony Music when they get lumped in with Sony Entertainment's stupid video game publishing decisions, along with Sony's hardware division taking a hit because the associated parent acted in bad faith, tarnishing the brand as a whole

#

I admit my view on these things is a little more .. simplistic than the real world can be, but it's not my job as a consumer to have to play the shell game of working out who is and isn't poison under a particular umbrella.

If you're seeing the useless news articles about a global "IT OUTAGE" with no other actually useful info, here's something actually actionable.

The issue has been caused by a security software update by a company called "CrowdStrike", which is leading to equipment having BSOD's and boot looping.

That's why the big names all at random like Microsoft, et al are affected, because they're using this tool / software.
It's not a global hack or anything daft.

Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment

Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory

Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.

Boot the host normally.

Does this mean they have to freaking boot into safe mode MANUALLY? If the company have like hundreds to thousands of computers affected by the bsod, they need to manually go to each computer and manually boot into safemode and delete that file and repeat it to every computer that the company have?

There might be some bare-metal servers that can get round it, but that's still going to require the fix to be deployed and babysat through

This is why stuff like viral outbreaks on companies take so long to resolve, because there's not a manual fix you can push out to all devices that'll guarantee resolution and de-infection, and unless you have a way to push out an OS image to each machine then each one's going to require manual intervention - then updating and so forth.

And that's assuming you can even trust the hardware isn't compromised by a bad BIOS / firmware payload persisting through wipes.

Updates like this from a "Trusted" provider hurt more as people gain confidence and eventually just go "Yeah roll it, it'll be fine OH GOD WHY IS EVERYTHING GOING OFFLINE"

Yep, a lot of the end user kit out there is just stock windows, and doesn't have any kind of pre-boot beyond the windows stock one, and the servers may have a pre-boot for the hosts they have, but if the pre-boot gets borked it's game over. 😄

I have restarted a world to try the new stuff. I raced my base to lvl 10, am catching everything I see jus tto get the base operational to a point, and plan to start up a base where needed. I'll then deconstruct the first base so I can build my actual base to really enjoy the new stuff.

The method is working pretty well for me so far. I am able to explore old things and new without feeling like I am stuck in a basic grind.

We went everywhere. Roof, attics, all the rooms. There are a few things to be repaired, but nothing major. Some rotting trim, some water lines near the water heater need to be directed away and secured. Pointy screws in the breaker box need removed. A few bad thermal seals, and the deck's edges sag and aren't very secure.

I definitely do not think it's going to appraise for as much as we're under contract for though. It'll likely be pretty well below because of the amount of updating that needs to happen. If these guys weren't under a contract where buying their next house is contingent on them selling this one, that could cause the deal to fall through. If this deal does fall through, then they're in a bad situation where they could lose both houses. But right now I have them by the nuts and either way I win. Either it appraises higher and I have instant equity in the place, or it appraises lower and I have a cheaper monthly payment 😂

Honestly it isn't the job of the inspector to point out safety issues either. Just major defects that could present problems for the house. It's why my family's house cleared inspection in spite of the electrical circuitry having a bunch of corners cut and whatnot.
