Hyper over produces and can cause life threatening issues. I don't think they remove the thyroid, but weaken/inhibit it? Will need to ask someone more knowledgeable bc I could be completelywrong on that point. Once the surgery is done, the person will now suffer from hypo, where they severely under produce and need medicine to compensate. Hypo has many issues, but very few, if any, life threatening.

If the friend is female, they really need to get it checked regardless bc women are at a very high risk of either thyroid disorder and it affects women things. Had my sister checked the moment I learned every woman in the family had hypothyroidism. Luckily, sister had neither.

Men are less susceptible, but should still get checked if they have symtpoms. At the very least, it can help doctors figure out what the issue could be if it isn't a thyroid issue.

My brother broke up with the girl bc she was crazy. Any time anyone would message him, she went crazy claiming that he was seeing another girl. He broke up with her bc I had my sister text him asking when I needed to pick him up. The girl saw my sister had texted him and accused him of sleeping with our sister, she knew it was our sister. He told me the details of what happened. I had a phone call asking me to pick him up asap.
