This statement on the OFFICIAL SONY WEBSITE was changed incognito with no announcement or warning. This is because SONY KNOWS that they misled people and changed the words after the fact in the hope that no one noticed. We did.

-arrowhead didnt make them mandatory, which led to people getting the game despite not being eligible for psn.
-psn enforced the original agreement because in their eyes, arrowhead broke contract
-unfortunately, by this point, it had been too long and caused a lot of consumer problems
-it was much easier to just ignore the original contract and honour the sales

"real problem" for most people, it was just the PSN account linking that was the issue, none of this "big picture" stuff. So I disagree, I don't think it was a bandaid fix, it was a full on reversal.
