My aunt needed more RAM in her laptop and handed the RAM and laptop to my granny and told her to install it(when my aunt needed something done, she would get my granny to do it bc my granny can do anything or would call me).
My granny found books, figured out how to take the laptop apart, and installed the ram. (Still shocked that laptop had the capability to add more).
Later, my granny wanted to learn to use a laptop so she could keep in touch with family. I spent 6 months trying to teach her how to plug the power chord in and press the on button.... She couldn't fathom it.
We got in so many arguments.

I've talked about this sometimes, I honestly think and wanna think that even tho generations after the 90s don't have the same capability in general to memorize and don't have so many things in their head as previous generations I think we've compensated that with superior problem solving skills
We don't know off the top how to do something so to say, but we know exactly which steps to follow to figure it out
People look at me weird sometimes when I bring that up when they complain about the youth nowadays
We're better problem solvers, just deal with it I guess, we're not portable computers that can do complex math off the top or recite poetry like it was tik tok lyrics

It just amazes me she can take it apart, figure out what needs to be done, even discuss the internals with me and put it back together as if it had never been opened. Yet, I could not get her to learn how to press the power button. She understood the qwerty keyboard bc she was a trained typist, but that power button eluded her and it was the same button as the tv remote.
