I do have a guess, though. I'm guessing that there's a backside of a multiplayer server that they have (the 'backend' that Bucky mentioned) where they have people playing on and others trying to hack it and exploit the game to find weaknesses

Yeah, I can see that. At work there are plenty of computerized pieces of equipment, but all it does is get readings and open and close valves/turn on and off certain things as needed to balance levels and whatnot. Straight ladder logic that operates off of value changes

I like to play simulators. I have a racing wheel/shifter/etc. I wanted to figure out a way to incorporate it into the desk to make it easier to set up, so I'm more motivated to use it and play sims.
Most videos/things I've found have people lifting a flip up board which the wheel is mounted to. I can't really do that tho because of the support beam under the desk.

🤔 You might be able to do something similar if you have it in two separate pieces that operate on a two-way hinge, so it could swing out from underneath that support beam, and then back when you want to put it up. Then the issue would be keeping it in place when you're using it and not using it.
Have like one piece mounted to the back of the support beam, if possible, and the main piece attached to that, which can swing out from beneath. For storage, you could probably mount fold-down brackets that can keep it in place

You probably could honestly. I was gonna say that if you're gonna mount them to your desk, triangles would be your best friend. You can flatten those and they're sturdy without many drawbacks. It's pretty simple to have like a key bar or something to lock it in place for adjustment

Two pieces, with male and female ends respectively, held together with metal rod (I HATE dowel rods). They would fold up into a triangle and allow you to set your tablet up against it. The issue is locking it into place... which can be resolved if you have a set of "keys" that sit inside the mounting pieces, which you could wedge between the base and the edge of the cut-out
