I noticed when I made a character strictly by core book and rolls, I was extremely under powered compared to the other players that hopped around books and picked things for skills instead of building a character profile.

DM had to then balance creatures based on party and the creatures were either wiped out by one party member easily or we almost died bc they were too big for us.

5e is wonderful for my fantasy but there’s not a good rewards system. Cyberpunk Red means if I keep a journal (which I always do) and I really go above and beyond to make sure I do the roleplay I love etc then I get rewarded for that

Dungeons can give you rewards in loot, knowledge, experience, etc.
You can get rewards in my nps for quests, just helping, talking, buying, selling.
