pokemon switch titles have a chance for a shiny to display the square animation. it's based of shiny value (sv) that goes back to gen 3. if it's a 0, it'll be a square shiny. if it's the other values, it will be a regular shiny.

ruby/sapphire: started few years ago doing sr's on and off when i felt like it. i have gotten shinies on them before, but checking their data, they just werent a square so i kept going. the square on ruby was my 20th shiny torchic.
