If you have a roof and walls on buildings they can get to, they could be getting stuck while you are away.

They may not be eating enough food, sometimes they will only eat until they hit a certain point then end up starving. Can try better food. I make the jam filled bun bc it is easy.

Make sure they are using the hot springs, sometimes, even when accessible, their pathing believes the hot spring is out of reach.

Download a dedicated server through steam which I think is 32 people.
Or buy a dedicated server through various server vendors that allow a different number of people.
