I mean, when you play HL1, you can hear the dialogue from the HECU, being completely unhinged sometimes. But then, you play as Shepard and hear the Black Ops dialogue and you realize the HECU are harmless.

They're literally psychopaths sent to do what they do best.

Lambda Complex was sealed before Freeman ever got there, and it got over-run by aliens who can just teleport inside.

And honestly, Shepard is the only smart one who uses vents. The rest of the HECU and NPCs don't.
